I'm under the impression that people see the Xbox as a chunky system that's only good for displaying insanely detailed graphics. A lot of the new RPGs here have potential and seeing that graphics is a segment that a few of them lack makes me kind of glad, really; it gives me hope that it's not living up to people's intuitions. How do you guys feel about them?
Well, I don't know that the Xbox is seen in such a way currently. This year, more so than any other year, has been a good year for the system. Up to this point in 2004, it's arguably seen the most quality software come to market. When it comes to RPGs, I'm looking forward to Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords and Jade Empire above all else. KOTOR II appears to be little more than an expansion pack. Obsidian Entertainment seems content in retaining the same overall look and feel of the original while offering standard tweaks in the engine and new force powers. But, I don't mind the fact, as long as the story and characters are as strong as those found in the original. Jade Empire will be mind-blowing; I have no doubt about it. This is the next logical step in the evolution of the engine they created with KOTOR. Only now, they're not restricted by the boundaries of an already existing license. Everything from the combat to the art style is intriguing. It's a bit odd that Jade Empire and KOTOR II will both release so close to one another next year, but I won't mind picking them up if I have the cash. Those two games, along with Fable (which should be amazing in its own right if things have come together properly) demonstrate just how far western RPGs have come. Japanese RPGs, for the most part, seem to have fallen into sort of a rut. I'm definitely staying away from Sudeki, however. The strange meshing of western and eastern art styles looks hideous and from what I've seen of the game itself, screams generic. It's gone gold, so we'll find out soon enough.
I'm new here, so i'm trying to find some friends. ?.? Anyone out there friendly?
Hey there. Welcome to OtakuBoards. We don't allow introduction threads, so feel free to jump right in and start posting. Just be sure you read our rules and FAQ pages; they're very helpful. :)
-
I was wondering if there could be a forum for debates, or for discussing political issues.
These topics are perfectly acceptable in Otaku Lounge. :) As OtakuBoards has progressed through various versions, a constant effort has been made to keep the forums as streamlined as possible as opposed to spreading ourselves out too much. Keeping a perfect balance between the subjects you've mentioned here and light-hearted discussion in one singular forum, has never really been an issue.

Right now, I'd love to write out a thoughtful post instructing you to read our rules and encourage better posting quality. But, you've not given me much of an indication that you'll provide that effort. My patience would be wasted. Anyone creating discussions such as these, and posting in this manner, obviously hasn't taken the time to look at the locked topics, or to look at our rules. So, what's the point? This place just isn't for you, I'm afraid.
-
Please use the private message function for discussions like these. Also, remember not to double post and to read our rules regarding post quality. Lastly, our FAQ should help you learn the ropes in terms of making use of OtakuBoards' various functions. Be sure to read up. Thank you. :)

Typically, I would delete something like this--but it's the second of its kind I've seen in the past two days. So, I'd like to remind people that they should only be creating topics if they're intended to encourage discussion-related issues. Something like this should always be limited to yoru signature. And, as wrist cutter kindly pointed out, it's not too difficult to search on your own using search engines. Think of it as a fun adventure! Wow!
join this site (link removed)
Advertising is against the rules. So is having multiple images in your signature. Because you blatantly ignored our guidelines and seemingly only registered just to promote this site, I see no reason to be lenient. Sorry Charlie.
There wa also some other guy I cannot remember his name. Spikey, or something. t is a little more recent. Mostly I do not think he did anything publicly, but went behind the scenes with blatant threats and such to take down OB or something.
I don't think it was Spikey. He was only nine or ten years old--and he always came across to me as a good, well-meaning kid. Then again, that threat is so generic and overused, we could probably paste at least fifty names in there. :D
But what I really want to know, is if the controls have been tightened up...if they've reworked the aiming/movement system and if they've refined drive-by shootings and stuff. I think that stuff would be more welcome for me personally, because I'd rather see the core elements tightened up and improved (although the increased size of the maps and so on is also a great addition -- it's one thing that makes GTA feel like a "virtual sandbox").
Supposedly, the aiming/shooting system has been reworked to operate a lot like the one found in Manhunt. I've not played Manhunt enough to acquire a firearm, so whether this adjustment is good or bad, I have no idea. Edit: Eurogamer recenty conducted an interview with Dan Houser that I think proves helpful in describing the various improvements. On swimming: ?Swimming we never had before. We just got pissed off with people saying, ?We can?t do swimming.? It works well in the game. So if you drive off a bridge you?re not going to drown. But that said, it?s not a swimming game.? On getting out of cars in water: ?If you don?t choose to exit the car, you will sink with the car, then you?ll have a certain amount of stamina under water which you can build up. There?ll be a few missions that will have swimming in them, but it?s not going to be like a PSone-era action adventure game where everyone was obsessed with swimming periodically. Definitely not. It just gives it playability.? On stupid hair: ?If you?ve got a stupid haircut, people will say, ?You look stupid?.? On territories: ?You can now recruit a gang and take over territories with them, and then lose territories if you don?t look after them. So you?ve got the idea that bits of the map become personalised to you as much as your own character becomes personalised to you.? On story and mission structure: ?Yeah, you can make money out of them if you look after them. There are bits in the game that are more gang focussed and bits where you?re more of a lone operative. We?ve got this challenge in the game where we want to keep it open and we want to put a good story in ? the stories are really good for dragging you through everything.? On game personalisation and more on mission structure: ?If we?d both been playing for a while, your game would begin to feel very different from my game. We might be at the same point in the mission structure, but your character might look great, you know, have all these great attributes, have a lot of money coming in, but if I?m just focussed on the missions I might look like a piece of ****. It?s about giving people that freedom of choice. It?s still very much an action game, but there?s a whole world out there to explore if you want to. At points in the GTA existence we?ve gone very, very non-linear, like GTA2 was very, very non-linear. And we?ve tried to get the best of that (in GTA:SA) which comes down to giving people the freedom of choice at any moment. You also get the advantage of a story which relies on emotion and characters. So the story opens up, it feels very non-linear, then it closes for a bit, then it opens up again: it works quite well, I think.? On the open countryside: ?We love, from a technical point of view, the driving in the open spaces on Smuggler?s Run. It?s awesome. Now you?ll be able to do that in GTA, with all of the GTA gameplay. We?ve now got a sick number of vehicles, and some that you can?t really put in the town but you can put in the countryside, like a quad bike. You can really race across this countryside ? it feels really quick out there. We?ve done a lot of work on the driving physics. It?s still very much a chasing game, not a car racing game, but once you get into the countryside it feels super-quick now. It?s also put through the Grand Theft Auto filter, so it?s not the friendliest environment. Like when towny goes to the country, it?s scary and full of inbreds and what-not. Your missions reflect it ? you?re meeting degenerates and going off to do local bank heists. It works really well from a story perspective. We?ve gone to a lot of trouble to make sure the more outlandish missions still make sense within the world and where you are in the story. The countryside is chunks and chunks and chunks and there are bits to do everywhere. The map looks super-organic, so it looks real. We?ve done a lot of work so it doesn?t look toy-towny; a lot of work rounding up corners so it doesn?t look square. Also, whichever way you want to cross it ? be it on a car or a bike or be it on foot shooting ? there?s really good gameplay built naturally into the environment. We?ve thought about the world from lots of different perspectives to make sure the missions show off all the best assets of the map.? On NPCs and bringing cities to life: ?We?re really trying to give the cities more life. Every pedestrian now has a brain. They?ve got much more refined AI. They?ve got a lot more unique animations depending on what the pedestrian type is and what activities they do. So not only will you see a lot more pedestrians, but they?ll do a lot more ****. So the guys you see in the ghetto and the guys you see in the countryside are going to both act and look different. It gives it more life than it ever used to have. We?ve done much more research on the characters, like we now go and do fashion shoots to make sure all the period costumes are right. The characters now have more bones, so we get proper facial animations and stuff.? On graphics, time-of-day action and shadowing: ?We?ve done a lot of work on the graphics from a technical standpoint. We?ve completely rewritten the render pipeline. The detail and the scope you now see, we couldn?t get before. Like, in the desert, there?s tumble weeds and so forth, really organic stuff. There are tons of unique interiors, a much more densely populated map. There were bits in the Vice City map that we felt were a little under populated. And even in the countryside, it feels like there?s more possibility for action. We?ve got real-time reflections in mirrors, we?ve done a huge amount of work on the lighting system. We were pioneers in the day-to-night clock system. But now it?s a lot better. There?s a totally separate model for anything in the day-time and anything in the night-time. So you get a much better feeling of night and day, a much better contrast. There are shadows, which give us a gameplay thing we never had previously, because you can hide in them. Now you can sneak in a GTA game for the first time. You can have a mission where you can play it balls out with a machine gun, running and trying to blast everyone, or you could sneak around and pick them off one by one. It gives a lot of choice.? On nicking bits from other games: ?Well, it?s just kind of picking out the good elements from everywhere. There is a certain magpie element on everything. Just trying to hone this enormous beast. We?ve honed the physics on both the player and the vehicle driving, so again it feels a lot more like an action movie. We?ve done a lot of work with the cars and the camera so it feels a lot more action oriented, while still giving you good control.? On fighting upgrades: ?There are tons more animations, so you?ve got a variety of fighting stances and a variety of attacks. You can now target while you?re fist-fighting, as well as while you?re gun fighting. We?ve totally overhauled the gun-fighting targeting system. Targeting is always a challenge in any third-person game, even in a built-from-the-ground-up third-person shooter, because you?re looking at this guy and he?s got to look over there ? the physics of it make it difficult. But I think now we?ve got a really elegant solution that gives you a lot of control.? On targeting: ?If you?re in a situation where there are innocent people and enemies, it will naturally focus on the enemies. You will have more control this time, but it will also do a very good auto-target. You can still flick around through targets, but it?ll make much better first choices than it has ever done in the past. It?s something that?s currently being refined.? On characters and satire: ?We?ve developed our characters a bit more and to that extent it?s more serious. But it?s still very much trying to be funny at all points. The satire? I suppose it?s levelled at the broader weirdness of America and American consumerism and American action movies as well.? On humour: ?Well, it?s because we?ve got six people working on it. Me and another friend of mine do a lot of the radio stuff and we have to compete with the stuff the other guys are doing on the signage (shop logos, company names). They?re coming out with all these ridiculous sick jokes all the time ? it?s about having funny guys with a very dry British sense of humour working on stuff and the fact that everyone wants to push stuff. So that?s just completely grown organically. It was even there in GTA1 to some extent, that stuff. Some of the pager messages. GTA2 didn?t have it so much ? we were trying to do that slightly futuristic thing. And then, from GTA3 onwards it really managed to come alive.? More on humour: ?The guys that do the signage can push it really far. They love the scatological stuff, but they?re always so on the money. The puns they come up with are so awesome. It?s like, ?Ow, it?s a bit much, but it?s really funny,? so they slip it in there. And a lot of the stuff people don?t even notice. Some people might not even like the GTA humour at all, but it becomes an action game at that point.? On ?getting the feel right?: ?We are very conscious of that being the potential problem. And so, styling-wise, everything has to feel as though it matches perfectly. The controls have to feel like they?re from the same game, the animations have to feel like they?re from the same game, the art direction has to feel like it?s from the same game. Even the story ? which might be outlandish, even though you thought you were in a game about being in a gang running drugs or whatever ? needs to make sense at that point. We do want to stretch stuff, because we do want to give people a broad experience. Here it always feels like you?re in the same game. Now I?m having my hair cut, now I?m running around in a car? It all feels like the same world. Plus, of course, you have the freedom to do it or not to do it. We do some sections where you go first-person, but they make sense as well of where you are in a mission. It?s the third part of a loosely bound trilogy, the first of which was set in 2001, the second in mid-80s and this was in the early 90s. And there are some loose connections in there for the hardcore fan. We felt that the east coast was a good starting point, Miami in the 80s was great, LA was the coolest part of the world at that time. We?ve done a huge amount of research on the voices, making sure they sound like LA, not New York. It needs to feel Californian, but still presented in that GTA way.? On filling up DVDs: ?One area that I?m really involved in is creating the audio assets ? I think we?ll have well over 400 speaking parts, which is insanity. The amount of studio time we?re having to get through and the amount of writing that?s involved, we?re more worried about getting it on the disc. That?s our initial challenge. We?re having to go to dual layer DVD because we?ve already filled up a full DVD. On unbridled ambition: ?This is the thing about having a very ambitious team. Everyone, every section pushes every other section, nobody wants to be the guy that isn?t pushing as hard as possible. Everyone wants there bit to be the bit that people remember from the game. There?s a lot of internal competition and pressure to do the best that they can do. You know, ?How can we tie that in together?? And suddenly you?re like, ?Oh ****, it needs another 10,000 extra audio samples or another 50 pedestrian models. Oh well, it?s worth it; don?t let the side down?? There?s a really good energy like that. The danger is currently the storage medium (DVD), and one we thing we?re all praying for in the next round of hardware is that they don?t just go, ?It?s DVD again?. We?ve done some clever stuff with compressing it, but we were virtually full on the disc with Vice City ? this time we?re overfilling the disc to the max.? On California radio: ?California has got the best radio of anywhere in America. There?s going to be a big, big range of music in this one.? On voice acting: ?From a production point of view we?re doing all the stuff now, so it?s not all put to bed. And we probably won?t even mention it until after the game comes out. But time spent in a voice booth doesn?t help with the quality of interaction. We use voices because they?ve got a strong voice for a cut-scene, no other reason. We like top do it because it adds to the experience, but we?d hate to think people buy the game because so-and-so is voicing it.?

Wait for me! I intended to get this up during the weekend but a personal situation arose so I was unable. Even if I don't make it because of my seeming lack of initiative, at least I came through with putting it up. heh Name: Caine Age: 9 Gender: Male Apperance: His hair is raven black, with rough curls grown long enough to touch the base of his neck, and to hang just above his eyes. Cain?es face is thin and triangular in shape, with a button nose and large gray eyes under his prominent brow that dominate his expressions. His frame is narrow, he has a slender, rakish figure. His legs are long, but far from able, as they're encased in polio braces. Typically, he uses crutches for support because he tires easily but he's able to walk without them--albeit slowly and noisily. He wears a rigid-looking black school uniform that seems to clash with his boyish features. Of particular note, are the long red stripes apparent on his arms--seemingly trails of punishment. Background: The boy is shy, as most children would be in this situation, so he doesn?t speak much to the others. Thus, his biography isn?t the most distinct amongst the house guests. What?s obviously discernable is that he?s of European descent, apparent by the soft accent that colors his vowels when he does occasionally speak. When he does reveal information, it?s often in paradox. For example, he?s imparted to them a cryptic, incomplete name, that may or may not be just a childish pseudonym. Whether he has a family or hails from an orphanage is unknown.--he?s spoken of no one. His only confidant appears to be his imaginary friend, Mildred, whom he mutters to solemnly when he believes no one is paying attention. It seems to give him respite from the company of the strangers, to explore this new fantastical world with his imagination. It?s supposed immediately that Caine will be a hindrance to the others, which is partly true. Because of the polio disease that has crippled his limbs, and the absence of his crutches, he?s been forced into a state of dependency. Yet, at the same time, he?s adopted well to the art of hiding, as if it?s something that?s always been required of him. Often times, his disappearances are unusually fast and subtle for an individual of his stature. Equipment: He can't be burdened with much in any situation so it's natural that his load be light here. Other than his braces, he only carries a small suitcase that he guards fiercely. It's assumed it contains his school belongings but it's unknown how he was able to retain it. Perhaps his affection for it is so strong, that even the arms of the unknown are unable to pry it away from him. Miscellaneous: He seems fascinated by Reverand Jonny Brown and Katrina glares at Darcy, as if her addictions are an attached stigma that cannot go unpunished.
Yes we should all start thinking with our clitorises. That way we'll be guaranteed to get off. I can't really think of what else to add to this right now.
 It is a respectable point, despite its flawed execution within the post. The real issue here isn't how women approach sexual relationships differently than men--because presently, I could argue that people of both genders probably desire pretty much the same things. Apparent throughout this thread, is the portrait of the infantilized male, being guided by his dick, and little else. Forget the fact that the amount of housework and childcare that men tackle has doubled in the last twenty-five years. They're not interested in sex because they want to share the benefits of an intimate relationship with someone they're committed to, right? I know, they just want to hit it and run! Wrong-o. The only harmful difference between sexual motives between men and women is psychologically implanted by society. That is, society views women who embrace sex as openly as men in a negative light. Look at all the derogatory terms floating around for promiscuous women compared to males. Men aren't treated nearly as badly for having many partners. I think that's the only difference, as it stands. And that's the thing that needs to change. I know some kind of alarm bell that tells you to ignore our posts goes off in your heads when a male comes in here and paints a portrait of the true reality of the situation. But please, let's be realistic here. I think it's just as damaging for some of you to automatically stereotype men, as it would be for me to suggest that females should be strictly homemakers. Neither train of thought is valid. Only when people understand such a basic fact, could they then begin to understand why people have sex outside of their reproductive instincts. So the real point should be this: "Society should treat both men and women equally when it comes to the volume of their sexual activity." Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go sleep with a variety of women for no good reason.
-
People have sex simply for the pleasure. When someone is "horny" they don't think much. men are simple minded. that is the best information you will ever get
I have to agree with Heaven's Cloud. It's a common stereotype to assume that men are mindless sexual beasts, but I can assure you that idea is false--generated by the same societal misconceptions that would have you believe that women should be homemakers while men should waste away in front of the television watching sports. The differences between genders, when it comes to their roles in society, is probably more blurred than it's been in quite a while. Anyway, sex is a big deal because our society is centered around it. Teens feel pressured to have sex because the media places a huge emphasis on sex. Typically, sexual activity is equated with success i.e. if you're not having sex, you're not successful. Look at the performers teens watch: singers, actors, athletes--the one common denominator between all of them is that their sex lives are heavily exploited. Most films and sitcoms prominently feature sex, as do television commercials. Even the most mundane things, like shampoo commercials, are near pornographic in nature. When sex is the only thing being rammed down young people's throats (no pun intended), of course there's going to be a certain degree of pressure surrounding it. Also, you have to remember that many unfortunate children, living in the ghetto, have nothing else to do. So they have sex. There's no one there for them to teach them about safe sex, so they don't use protection. It's that simple. Otherwise, the most obvious reason is that sex is an inherent instinct. People are compelled to reproduce so that they can spread their genes to future generations. The fact that it's enjoyable is the icing on the cake.

A good portion of this problem is your own fault. I don't think you have a right to be angry with this person. I'm a little surprised so many people are rallying behind you here, ready to practically lynch this guy. This is a boy who doesn't have many friends, meets someone, and develops a crush on them. I don't follow you--how is that creepy? You were never direct with him to begin with. Saying "no," in your language doesn't mean he's going to understand. Especially when "no" in your language is "Maybe next time" or blatantly lying. If you had been honest with him from the start, this problem wouldn't have manifested itself such as it has. In fact, being up-front at the dance would have been more courteous than allowing him to follow you around, watching you dance with other guys. He was latching on to you, most likely, because he's infatuated that a female has actually taken an interest in him and he can't see a truth that would be so apparent to anyone under normal circumstances. I suggest you break it to him easily. Be clear and firm, but don't be rude. After all, you created this by acting strangely yourself. Ah well, that's my take on it anyway.
-
I also loved the movie. For whatever reason, I had never gotten around to seeing it in theaters despite my interest in it. So, I immediately picked up the DVD when it came out. It almost felt literary in a sense, simply because the film took the time to establish and develop most of the characters properly. It didn't rush along. While this resulted in a movie that felt long--it didn't feel, to me, as if it was dragging. The underlying pain of tragedy presented in each character was presented extremely well too. Most of the acting efforts were extremely solid. With a lesser cast, I think the movie could have come off feeling a bit generic, but they brought it up to another level. I suppose my only complaint is that the voices on the DVD seemed low for whatever reason.
Oh my god, i totally have a crush on Charles too. Tell him he's so dreamy and I would love to get into his.... control panel....
Don't worry, I'm sure he'll activate your account any day. :flasher:

I have a crush on Charles; he's the only man I've ever had these kind of feelings for. He's a kaleidoscope of wisdom. That is, he's able to partake in a variety of subjects in an intelligent manner, proving that he's a well-rounded individual. And modest to boot. You just can't beat that--it's primo. I'll tell you, that Charles always manages to cheer me up when I'm down. Whether he's posting strange images or stirring up mischief, he remains such an integral part of my life. Our relationship extends far beyond the Internet, actually. It's deep. I've known him for years--even before he ruled OtakuBoards with an iron fist. He's predictable in the sense that I can always seem to tell what's on his mind, but at the same time, understanding those complexities can prove rather challenging. I used to write letters declaring my undying affection for him, but couldn't seem to muster up enough courage to present them to him. I'm sure that if we ever took our relationship to a sexual level, it would get rather disturbing--but we can work around that problem. After all, working things out together is healthy for building a strong relationship. I am the blanket, and he's the brush-fire--I'll smother him in love! I'm certain he'll read this. The truth will be out. I will be timid, no more. In fact, I think I'll trudge up the dying (thank Jebus) OtakuBoards marriage trend and declare our online wedlock, official! Perhaps that will serve as inspiration to some of you. Just one more reason to love Charles.
Well personaly i hate the ps2 and hope it burns in hell. i mean seriously the gta series could have so much better graphics and resolution and everything if it were on the xbox or even the gamecube! Was that black guy on the second pick really the main character?! what about good old tommy vercetti? And bicycles? what the hell am i supposed to do with that? deliver the paper? i'm not getting away from the cops or any rivaling gangs on that thing. All i can say is rockstar better make up something new and kickass, otherwise i won't even care to pick up this new title, i wanna be a pimp.....oh well.
The Playstation 2 is the logical choice from an economical standpoint. I'm extremely doubtful that the other consoles could produce a significantly better experience bearing in mind the goal of the developers. Visuals have never been a focal point in the Grand Theft Auto series. I reference the first two as my primary examples. Even the three dimensional iterations feature crude polygonal figures and simple texture mapping. The primary focus in this franchise, I think, is providing an expansive, open-ended gameplay experience. Bearing that in mind, I think the games look pretty good for what they are. If you want better resolution, buy the PC version or cross your fingers and hope for an Xbox port. A GameCube version would present its own set of problems from a technical point of view based on the limited amount of disc space it provides. The robust soundtrack and gigantic streaming environments would result in a multi-disc game. I don't know why anyone would want to trouble themselves with that if they didn't have to. As for your complaint about the main character--please tell me you're not one of those guys who's bothered by the fact that the main character is black. I still can't believe that so many morons put up such a fuss over the skin color of a video game character. It makes me wonder what year we're living in when it comes to that. Tch.

It's obvious to me that this thread isn't designed to generate a discussion. Despite being unfamiliar with anime, I also feel it's very vague. But, perhaps someone can answer your questions. So, I'll close this thread and direct it towards Anime Lounge; we'll see if someone there can private message you with what you're looking for. :)
What a little brat. I bet you're just a lonely little person living their dream online by talking trash. Ya know what? If you and your little group of followers/social regime went to my school, me and the rest of the punks would whip your sorry little *** until you piss blood for a month. That's right, can you say KIDNEY SHOT?!!![/SIZE']
Right. You've got to be kidding me. The volatile response simple sarcasm gets within some of these threads never ceases to amaze me. Yes, I'm sure lava lamp physically whips his friends. Even his first post had an obviously humorous intent. To a certain degree, I know that these sort of replies are going to attract some negative attention. But, before people go off the deep end, they should apply some simple logic to the situation. To a larger extent, my problem with some of these replies is that they would be unacceptable even if someone did enter the discussion with a legitimately bad attitude. Here's the law: I'm laying it down; this outright flaming of members has got to stop. If you feel that someone is behaving inappropriately, you should report the posts in question to a moderator. Don't take the situation into your own hands and create a larger problem by contributing to, what you perceive to be a disruption, with a bad attitude of your own. Now, generally speaking, if I see any more flaming, I'm going to take immediate action against those doing it.
wether we believe JuliasPeach or not, everyone is entitled to their own opinions on the matter. Have any of you thought that she might have already gone tot he police about this problem already. She might just want some online friends or random peolpe helping her out with a major problem she had that day (or today). I would say I have to beleive JuliasPeach on her story. Poeple are easily fooled by other poeple's actions, or at least thats what I thing. ~Laters
Perhaps if you had actually read through the thread carefully before lecturing people, you would already know that JuliasPeach is a male who has not taken the problem to the police. These facts were revealed very early on in the discussion. I now demote you to Mage14.
