1. You can find members' ages by checking out their profile pages. Therefore, we hardly need a topic where everyone restates their ages. Otherwise, this topic is pointless. Queen Asuka is right. You're not going to find senior citizens here and I'm thoroughly disturbed that you're trying to. What purpose does it serve other than satisfying a bizarre curiosity? Let's try to keep stalking of the elderly to a minimum on OtakuBoards, people (and by minimum I mean "not at all"). Thank you. Sheesh, the things I'm forced to say when closing threads.
  2. All right, I've activated your other account. Private message me when you're logged in and I'll delete this one. ^_^
  3. Ah, amazing use of the color blue. First, visit the OtakuBoards Information Center. Next, never make a thread like this again. Instead, direct [more specific] questions towards a staff member via private message. Vague inquiries such as this hardly serve a purpose. ^^
  4. Lax European bathing habits generate an odor so pungent, it even takes a toll on one of their own. Perhaps President Bush could have avoided this Iraq nonsense by checking underneath Tony Blair's arms for a real weapon of mass destruction.
  5. I'm glad that Scooter Girl was eliminated; I hated her thoroughly. Her voice was good, but her flimsy personality annoyed me. Obviously, it was apparent there were problems when she needed a gimmick to veil her boring Surge induced act. What made it worse was that she chose a scooter of all things for that purpose. So, yes, although Scooter Girl was interesting at first, her charm wore thin fairly quickly. You can only watch a girl act like a fool and run around in tiresome. She seemed pretty fake too; she wasn't as wholesome as she let on. I didn't like how she isolated one of her teammates as the "weak link." The judges saw through her pretty well, I'd say. If she was to advance to the finals, I'd probably get a dull headache every time I watch the show.

    Hi!

My gosh, I don't want to scare you or sound needlessly mean, but please read the rules. If you don't do the reading, you will die (figuratively speaking). I can't be any more blunt than that.
  7.
Originally posted by James Imagine that someone starts a debate thread and it grows to a very large size; people put their time and effort into responding and discussing issues. And then the thread creator comes along and deletes it, because they aren't getting their point across successfully. That's a pretty unfair thing. It would certainly be annoying for those who participated in the thread. Deletion of threads and closure of threads is something that should be at Moderator discretion only.
And that's exactly what prompted me to disable that ability (other than the fact that I figured it wasn't supposed to be available to everyone begin with). It was very frustrating to see a lengthy discussion suddenly disappear. What a vapid waste of time and effort that was for everyone involved. A frustrating experience to say the least. Upon considering that, I'm sure you can see why members shouldn't have that capability, Squall. ^^ Just consider the words of a famous Greek philosopher who once said "If the discussion at hand isn't something the creator wants to support, perhaps it isn't a thread they should have created in the first place." Either that, or you know, they can just concede and change their minds within the thread itself. There's nothing wrong with admitting the opposition was right or simply made a better case.
  8. Because this discussion, thus far, is mostly relative to the video game series, I'm going to move this to the Sony forum. If you want to talk about the books, you may create a seperate thread for that purpose in the Literature forum. That distinction will help things to move along more smoothly. If no one is interested in the books, we'll essentially end up with a video game discussion in Otaku Lounge. On the other hand, if people are more interested in the books, we'll have a literature discussion in Otaku Lounge. What message should you take with you from my ramblings? Neither discussion is appropriate for Otaku Lounge. It's why we have the other forums to begin with. ^_^

This belongs in Adventure Arena, Motfati. Although this ongoing story isn't bound by many of the conventional rules that apply to that forum, it essentially remains a role-playing game. We've had other stories like this do well there, so I'll be glad to move it for you. ^_^ Perhaps the placement of this thread is the determining factor in why it hasn't performed very well. Hopefully you'll get more of a reaction in the proper forum. If not, at least we tried. :) If you take notice to this, you may want to private message me with a suggestion for a better title too. I'll be glad to change it for you.
  10.
Originally posted by Outlaw And Angle needs a serious push. He is the best thing Smackdown has going for it right now, and by making him a heel and giving him the title, they can set up some great feuds between him and Eddie, Edge, and Cena. They need to run now before Angle is forced to retire with his bad health. He seems to be having some serious injury problems recently and might not last much longer.

You're in for a treat. Most of this will happen. Angle is indeed slated for a heel turn and he will work a match with Eddie at Wrestlemania. The initial stages of this program have already begun with the "mystery attack" on this week's SmackDown. At No Way Out, it will be revealed that Angle was the one who ambushed Eddie after he interferes in his match with Lesnar. And--Angle isn't being neglected right now. He's being eased back into the thick of things because of his recent neck surgery. He's the top worker of the SmackDown brand, so I wouldn't worry about how his character is handled too much. ^_^
11. I really liked Butterfly Effect. Most people seem to dismiss this movie's positive attributes because of their silly preconceptions surrounding Kutcher. wouldn't say that Kutcher was laughable in the part. His performance wasn't Oscar worthy, but at the same time it didn't completely ruin the film either, as others would suggest. I can't speak for anyone else, but I walked out of the theater satisfied. This film isn't on the same psychological level as, say, Donnie Darko (which it tries to imitate to an extent). Regardless, the script is utterly fantastic. The idea behind it isn't exactly original or delivered clearly, but I loved the characters. The cause and effect relationship applied them was interesting to say the least. This won't be the best film you see in 2004. It may not even be close. At the same time, it won't be on the other end of the spectrum either.
  12.
Originally posted by anime_guy One question, what's your rank? I'm Lt. Commander ^__^ so, unless you have your wings, I'm better, lol. Oh, and my clan, is pretty big, I'd say more than 30 members, in the second faction, the first one was full ^_^ in the second one, two members have their wings, and it's mostly Lt. COmmanders, except for a few Lt.s and a "butterstick" Sorry if it sounds like I'm bragging about my clan, because I'm not...
I'm the mighty Ensign. I hide in the depths of mediocrity, only to lure in my victims and surprise them with my exceptional skill. Yes. That definitely sounds better than saying "I suck." ^^;;
  13. After thinking it over, I've decided that Otaku Lounge should be for conversation. You know, sharing perspectives--enlightening one another with the unique ideas we each bring to the table. This survey is anything but. It was fun at first--but it's like candy. It's perfectly fine in moderation. If you eat too much of it, however, you're bound to get sick. What we have here, are people rather pointlessly listing interests that we could easily perceive from their posts or by talking with them. As for the less tangible categories--I just doubt anyone cares much at this point. Honestly, no one is collecting the information from this survey. I highly doubt that many people are reading through it. Those drawbacks alone defeat the purpose of it. I think I'm going to close this thread now. You know, just for fun.
  14. There's an overabundance of WWE threads floating around at the moment. I'm sure the women's division could be discussed at length in one of them. So, let's try to keep this topic concise instead of saturating the forum with a bevy of like-minded threads. Also, I really don't like how you offer favorite threads. You yourself don't initiate any discussion. Look at this. You don't give us your in-depth opinions. Why do you like those divas? Is it because Trish has matured from a model (and a valet) into a benefited brilliant women's wrestler. Do you admire her solid in-ring skills and willingness to take rough bumps? Her creative input concerning her angle with Jericho? Perhaps you just like to admire her large chest. Again, you don't elaborate. You basically leave it to those who respond to carry the thread for you. That doesn't sit well with me. Offer up some more effort next time, please. For now, I'm going to give this thread the three count.
  15. My tag is God North. I've only created my first clan today. It's handle is both intimidating and dignified. So, the prospect of it all is rife with possibilities I'd say. Especially considering the cool options at your disposal when dealing with clans. Anyway, my clan is named Ben Frankclan. Isn't that just so cool? I can't believe it wasn't taken. ^_^ I agree with you, anime_guy. Socom II is absolutely a superior product--as it relates to online gaming anyway. I've barely touched the single player campaign at all. I've heard it's quite good, but I'm not much of a military strategist, so I feel a tad overwhelmed by the complex team system. Rainbow Six 3 was much easier to pick up and play in that regard. Not necessarily better per se, just more simplified. The two aspects that impressed me most in the first level was the enemy artificial intelligence and the ability to hide in foilage. Again, my experience was brief, so I'm not sure if the AI really deserves to be commended or not, but it showed promise in my brief observations. The online component is very addictive. Sometimes it can be frustrating (like when you get lousy partners that kill you or opponents that camp in your respawn point) but the interface has legs and it's no trouble at all finding players in your skill range. I like how it's broadband only too. I've rarely encountered any lag (but it is still there on occasion). Most of the time I play Suppression. My tastes lean towards the ranked games. The respawn games are fun for twitch fun, but it's a bit mindless. There's no strategy; people just run around blindly shooting. I like the idea of playing cautiously and working with your teammates to stay alive. Because, let's face it, no one wants to die early and wait until the end of a round to jump back in. I can't wait until the hard drive launches. Screw Final Fantasy XI. I'll buy it for the opportunity to download new content for Socom II alone. But yeah, I'll add you to my buddy list, anime_guy. That way I can hunt you down and destroy you online. XD
  16.
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel I really hope this thread doesn't decend into that "hidden messages in Disney films" crap. We already had a thread on it where the majority of people showed they don't know what they're talking about. In Aladdin, combined with the rumor and the fact that people try and hear that line, they're simply going to think it's there even if its not. It's a proven idea in other similar situations too. There's excuses for the Lion King thing (whether or not anyone believes them, I don't know) and the Little Mermaid priest thing is totally ridiculous if you bother to watch the scene and see that it is his knee. It's not there. Please, let's keep off this subject lol.
I'm a fan of the Disney films prior to and during my childhood. I've already added The Lion King to my collection and I'm going to buy Beauty and the Beast when the opportunity presents itself. I just appreciate the older movies so much more than what's on the market today--and for good reason. It's not just a matter of substance or the mediocrity of the material itself (although the messages in present Disney flicks are so knarley it's not even funny). The characters of yesteryear were just so much more appealing. That's a definite measuring stick in terms of quality--memorable characters. What's out there now lacks the complexity and appeal that made many of my favorite character so special. And that flaw substantially hurts the stuff saturating today's market.
  17. Nothing about me is organized. My personal belongings? DVDs? Books? The rare CD? I know they're here somewhere. School materials? I have a general idea where they're at. Which, incidentally leaves me scrambling frantically just minutes before I have to leave (heh). It's not odd, on occasion, for a flurry of notebook pages to cascade about the floor while I filter out my notes in search of an assignment sheet or something. Hey, it happens. I always find what I'm looking for, at least. My clothes are probably the most organized. Not that they're ordered or layered in any specific manner. I just know they're hiding in one closet or another. So, it doesn't take an inordinately long stretch of time to search those suckers out. Score one for me, I guess. I'm just not into setting time aside to order my belongings. I'm sure it'd be in vain if I even bothered because it's doubtful I'd actually put the stuff back in its "designated" spot. Ah well, hate me organization fiends! I am your enemy. :drapes arm over brow in dramatic way:
  18.
Originally posted by Boba Fett This I don?t. First of all, 30% is far too low a number. The real statistic, as of the last election, is 57.62%. Not only the wealthy vote Charles. That?s a completely incorrect statement.

Your link isn't relevant to local elections. I'm speaking in broad terms. Elections don't begin and end with the Presidential elections. I'd say you're being a tad optimistic if you honestly believe such an inflated number of people participate in selecting their local, less publicized representatives.
57.62% ain't impressing me much even if I do throw you that bone. You're still talking about a large chunk of the population neglecting their responsibilities as citizens. So, what's that figure supposed to do for me? It doesn't paint a serious attitude towards voting from where I stand. It's still just a drop in the bucket. In foreign lands, such as Australia, they actually cancel your driver's license if you don't vote. Now, that's serious encouragement.
I never insisted that only wealthy people vote. I said they're a more likely demographic to vote. I didn't express that sentiment just for the heck of it, so allow me to explain. Lower class individuals either have a tendency to be nihilistic (they don't believe things are changing regardless of their votes) or they're just too damn busy working to support their families to be interested in politics. Either way, people with more resources readily available to them are typically going to be the ones to participate. Especially considering their greater experience operting within the system itself. 19.
Originally posted by Radaghast For the most part I believe that all tattoos are defilements of the skin. They are usually gotten when younger people make hasty decisions and don't think how they'll dislike their tattoos later in their life. I believe it is a very hard process to get them removed, too.
What's that oft-used Internet expression eloquent enough to have been coined by an especially unmotivated twelve year old? Oh yes, I believe it's "Meh." Yeah, that?s the one that annoys the hell out of me. Regardless, if nowhere else, it's appropriate here. Rock on. Although this is just your opinion, and I respect it enough not to blatantly dismiss it as a wrong viewpoint, your blurb is heading my post in bold for a reason. I think it's a really stunted perspective. I'm sure there are foolish goobers out there who mutilate their bodies in a drunken stupor only to suffer the consequences down the line, but from my experiences alone, I can say that many of the young adults I know are very thoughtful in their decisions to get tattoos. Based on that, I?d say it's very possible for someone to get a meaningful tattoo that's forever representative of their individuality. Tattoos can be artistic, classy (yes classy) and beautiful. Of course, they can be abused--just like most other forms of expression. That careless behavior doesn't detract from their appeal from where I stand. Again, that's just my own opinion. I'm on the opposite side of the coin here, I suppose. If I ever do get a tattoo, it'll probably be similar to the attached image.
  20.
Originally posted by White Mage Is it because you cant get an real life relationship? Just wondering why people think its cool.
Let's not get nasty. If we're going to muse over this subject, we don't need anything resembling personal attacks. Otherwise, the thread will degenerate and I'll be forced to go crazy. Anyway, I'm have a very cynical outlook concerning online relationships. Especially so-called romantic ones. It's one thing to utilize a matchmaking service where reasonably located adults compare shared interests and there's an immediate (and realistic) intention to meet. Even my opinion on this method isn't favorable, but I'm inclined to look at it in a more positive light than say, talking with someone via AIM and coming to the false conclusion that a lasting relationship with said individual is plausible. A real relationship should be founded on honesty and intimacy. Those things aren't wholly available online because of the anonymity and distance attached to the Internet. It's both natural and common for people to contrive mental images and ideals of "what" and "who" someone should be to fit their own interests. Which, of course, leaves a lot of room for disappointment when they discover they're attracted to that perception instead of a real person. I wonder if that made sense. O_o;; There are just so many complications in addition to that, it's not even funny. Otherwise, I see most people online as text. I consider some friends and value that friendship, but it's difficult to categorize them with people I interact with in my everyday life because once again, the personal contact just isn't there. Especially since I try especially hard to detach my real life from that of my Internet ventures. I rarely delve into personal discussions or share my private life and whatever problems I face with anyone online. I just see this as a place to escape all that. And really, I'm not actively searching for companionship online. I just want to have fun. I guess that's my motivation for not investing into these things so much like others do.
  21. Everyone who is able to should vote. If it's not an immediate priority, it should be later. Failure to accept that responsibility is a slap in the face to those who sacrificed their lives to secure that right. If you look at who votes, it's probably about thirty percent of the eligible population. And, that piece of the pie is likely occupied by wealthy individuals who are wealthy because they know how the system works. They vote so that they can preserve it. If a different demographic doesn't vote, then of course there's little hope to change anything and what you have left certainly isn't a democracy...

  23.
Originally posted by WW2 But there is gonna be a drawback now that they've won. I just know the local radio stations are gonna start playing that stupid Carolina Panther rap constantly.:(
Oh my. I thought the Philadelphia Eagles were the only team with their won rap song. I didn't even imagine other fans were rabid enough to invest themselves in that sort of hoopla. Although I'm not a diehard Eagles fan, I'll admit it's a shame they lost. This is their third straight loss in the championship game. I can't even fathom how disappointed the fans must be at this point. When you take into consideration how much the team overcame this season to reach this level, one can only conclude they'll be devastated. Anyone who knows anything about football knows that Philadelphia fans take their football very seriously. Ah well. So it's the Panthers who will go on to be defeated by New England. lol
  24. It's well documented in various OtakuBoards chats that I play Madden 2004 online--well documented in the sense that Shinmaru tends to make fun of my horrible lack of skills. >_
  25. A while back, I decided that this would no longer be a sticky post--and for one reason or another my decision was ignored. Nevertheless, I decided to allow this to remain and not press the issue. But, at this point I've decided that this thread serves no official purpose to the site as a sticky thread--so I'm going to un-sticky it--permanently. Honestly, we're too free with sticky threads at this point and I feel that they detract from the overall importance of worthwhile reminders. So, people can do one of two things: continue posting in here, thus keeping this archive of poems active on the front page. Or, they can create their own poetry threads. ^^;;
