1. So long as they're reasonable within the setting and don't sidetrack the story too much. Â Anyway, I'll start the thread sometime this afternoon. The title will be: MMD Episode 1 - Night of the Living Emos.
2. I'm the sort of person who, when I find a video I like, I'll watch it over and over and over again. Â I've seen the Haruhi version of the Lucky Star opening and that cosplay chick dancing the Caramelldansen a dozen times each. Â But the only real-life person I've watched on Youtube is a friend of mine who has appeared on the Savage Bandito show twice. Â
3. Oh, no rush or anything. Â It doesn't have to be a museum-quality work of art either. Â Just take your time and have fun with the design. Â
4. How about a picture of my character Bear in chibi form chasing a Chao (those little blue things from the Sonic series) with an axe? Â There's a description of him in this thread in my second post. Â I would be eternally indebted to you if you would do this. Â
5. He'll fit right in with the MMD environment.   I guess I'll go ahead and lay out the rules since there are only a few: 1.  Don't Blow Up The Thread - If there's action going down don't just pop up and drop a Spirit Bomb or fly down in Gurren Lagann to annhilate the entire opposition in one stroke.  It not only derails the entire thread but also makes you look like a total jackass. 2.  Don't Hijack The Story - Due to the random nature of the MMD a lot of off-the-wall stuff can happen at any given time.  But as the thread leader I'm (hopefully) going somewhere coherent with all of it.  Feel free to add your own details but don't lead everyone off in a totally different direction.  3.  Don't Pick Fights - This is more of a pet peeve than an actual rule.  Please don't show up and attack the group for no apparent reason (unless it's been planned beforehand).  It will also derail the thread plus it's just plain rude. That's about it. Â
6. No real signup form necessary. Â Just include whatever character information you want to share with the rest of us. Â How they look and act would be helpful along with whatever gear they're carrying and powers they have (if any). Â For example, here's my character. Â Basically he's my MSN chatroom alterego: Name: Bear the Viking Description: Bear is a burly, bad-tempered Viking whose job is pillaging and plundering every village he comes across and then burning them to the ground. He has all the wit and charm of a caveman and usually resorts to violence to solve all of his problems. Bearâ??s voice is like a loud roar and he has a belly laugh that can curl your hair. In his spare time he enjoys drinking mead, chasing wenches and tavern brawling. Appearance: Bear is a hulking brute with a muscular build and many battle-scars. He has shaggy brown hair and a curly beard. Bear clothes himself in a tunic and breeches woven from sturdy brown cloth. Heâ??s also wearing leather wristbands with a matching belt and boots trimmed with fur. His cloak was cut from the pelt of a large, brown bear. There is an iron helm set with ivory horns upon Bearâ??s head and a chain of silver disks around his neck. Equipment: Bear is armed with a battle-axe as well as a war-hammer. The axe has a wooden shaft with a single-edged blade forged from sturdy iron and honed to razor sharpness. The hammer has a hardwood handle banded with iron and topped with a heavy head capable of crushing an enemyâ??s skull. He prefers the axe whenever heâ??s in the mood to hack something up and swaps it out with the hammer when he feels the need to smash things.
7. You guys probably aren't ready for this.... Back when my now-deceased Pirates vs. Ninjas RP was still active I was also running a sub-rp called the Magical Mystery Dungeon.  It was a lot of fun so I wanted to see if there was a market for this style of roleplay on this board. The premise behind the MMD is simple: it's a spam RP that is all about slapstick comedy and having fun.  You can use any existing character from any anime/movie/book/etc, your own original characters from any other RP or you can just be yourself if you want.  The setting is totally random and the story can take place literally anywhere and in any time period. Storylines start with only a vague concept and then fly by the seat of their pants. Rules are almost non-existant but there's usually a lot of crude humor, sexual innuendo and possibly some stuff that might offend a few people.  If you're the touchy sort this probably isn't for you. ~ At the moment I've got a (sort of) survival horror comedy plot left over from the old site.  If I can find two or three people who want to give this a try I'll post the particulars and we'll move on from there.
8. What really gets my goat is the whole "Only in selected theatres" BS that gets pulled all too often. Â Like how last week I went to see that Scott Pilgrim movie only to find out that it's not being shown in this area. Â And it's all because I live out in the sticks. Â Rednecks watch movies too hot dammit!
9. This looks absolutely badass. Â Definitely looking forward to seeing it.
10. Round 2 matchups incoming: Asuka Langley Soryu vs. Rin Tosaka - Straight-up catfight to see who is the bigger *****.  No giant robots or Servants allowed. Naruto vs. Black Star - Two ninjas-in-training duke it out to determine who is the greatest.  (Hint: It's not Naruto) Naruto vs. The Principality of Zeon - Yes, the entire Principality. Gurren Lagann vs. The Angels - Because Shinji fails and Neon Genesis Evangelion really did need a happier ending. Revy vs. Jo - Lagoon Company and the Burst Angels send their best tattooed gunslingers against one another.  Who will be the last badass babe standing?  Expect serious collateral damage. Lelouche vs. Relena Peacecraft - The ultimate strategist decides to invade the Sanc Kingdom and topple the world's greatest pacifist from her throne.  Nightmares vs. Gundams in the greatest military melodrama since Gundam Wing. Sashi vs. Haruhi - The S.O.S Brigade visits the Magical Shopping Arcade and Sashi schools Haruhi on how to really muck up the space/time continuum.
11. My first manga was Dirty Pair: A Plague Of Angels by Adam Warren. Â DP was the first series I really got into. Â It was followed closely by Battle Angel Alita by Yukito Kishiro and No Need For Tenchi by Hitoshi Okudo.
12. Some characters just seem as if they were created to go head-to-head with one another despite being in different series.  If you could pit two of them against one another who would they be? Here are my match-ups: Spike Spiegel vs. Vash the Stampede - Spike comes to collect the sixty billion double dollar bounty on Vash's head and comedy ensues.  This one is a no-brainer. Rei Ayanami vs. Yuki Nagato - A tense showdown to see which one of these shy ladies will break the silence and speak first.  Secondary contest will be held to determine which is cuter.  Deedlit vs. Those Who Hunt Elves - Junpei, Ritsuko and Airi are now trapped on Lodoss Island after Celcia screwed up the teleportation spell yet again.  Have they finally met their match or will Deedlit be disrobed? Alucard vs. Vampire Hunter D vs. Abel Nightroad - The original vampire pitted against not only his own halfbreed son but also a Crusnik, the natural predator of vampires in a triple threat deathmatch of epic proportions.
13. While I do like the animated Batman series better than any other incarnation of the Dark Knight I'm going to go with Jack Nicholson on this one. Â I'm voting for him simply because I recall how absolutely HUGE the Batman movie was back in 1989. I was still in school at the time but I clearly remember the lines of people waiting to get in to see that movie stretching all the way around the theatre to the back where all the employees were trying to have their smoke breaks. Â Well they would have been if it hadn't been RAINING that day. Â Yeah, you had to really want to see Michael Keaton, Kim Basinger and Jack Nicholson on the big screen pretty bad to wait in line for two or three hours in the rain. Also, Prince was was still Prince (and not the Artist Formerly Known As Prince) at the time and he received a huge surge in popularity due to his contributions to the film's soundtrack. Â Everyone else was cashing in on it too. Â The Batman movie from the 70's was being aired on all the movie stations toy stores were shilling out old Batman toys and stickers, logos, coffee mugs, etc were everywhere. Â So yeah. Â Nicholson if only because his portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime gave everyone more bat for their buck.
14. I have mixed feelings on this issue. Â I've always prided myself on being a good consumer and purchasing officially licensed anime and manga to support the industry. Â The only fansubs I've ever partaken of were the ones that were never released here in the US. Â News that OneManga is being shut down doesn't surprise nor truly affect me. Recently though I've realized that while I support the industry the industry has been either unwilling or unable to support me in return. Â Several of my favorite series, be they anime or manga, have been shelved for horrifically long stretches of time or are getting axed altogether. Â Hellsing Ultimate (anime), Elemental Gelade and Air Gear (manga), Shakugan No Shana (anime) are a few examples. Â I'm perfectly willing and able to purchase all of these and yet they're not available for me to purchase. Â So what choice do I as an anime/manga fan have but to turn to scanzines and fansubs? Â If and when I am forced to finally give in and go that route I'd really like to find said route still available.Â
15. My worst anime vote goes to Naruto. Now, as to why, I'll tell you.  It's because it's being over-hyped and is adored by all the children who drag their parents into every Books-A-Million and Best Buy.  So naturally Books-A-Million and Best Buy overstock their shelves with Naruto mags and disks.  Want to find a copy of Princess Resurrection or Dorothy of Oz?  You might be lucky to find an issue that came out five or six months ago.  But oh yeah, there's an entire SHELF devoted to Naruto and the OVER NINE THOUSAND disks/mags that are being churned out like crap from an elephant's anus. I hate Naruto.  Believe it.
16. G Gundam is just one of those quirky titles that you either love or hate depending on how you look at it. Â If you're a serious Gundam fan and try to compare it to any other series it's always going to come off looking like a ridiculous series intended for little kids. Â But if you're like me and just take it at face value for what it is you'll wind up really enjoying it. Whether you like it or think it's lame you can't deny the mark G Gundam has left on the franchise. Â As newer series come out you may forget about the Victory Gundam or lose interest in Gundam Deathscythe but you will NEVER be able to forget about the Nether G (even if you want to). On a side note, if you're interested in G Gundam I highly recommend tracking down the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing pocket manga that were released by Tokyopop a few years back. Â It's not the best adaptation of the series but the comics entitled "Go For It Domon W!" in the back of each volume alone are worth the money.
17. Most underrated anime? Â Well maybe this one isn't so much underrated as it is disliked; Samurai Gun. Personally I love Samurai Gun no matter what anyone says. Â The whole premise of a feudal era setting with modern day weapons is just too awesome. Â Sure it's got a lot of violence and sexuality. Â So what? Â That's sorta the whole frickin' POINT of the show. Â Â
18. Ever come across an anime/manga that was so far away from your usual sphere of interests that you wound up enjoying anyway? Â I've come across a few of these in my time. Â Here's a short list: Spice & Wolf - Not much going on in this series in the way of the knock-down, drag-out action sequences that usually get my blood pumping. Â The fact that the male lead is a merchant instead of a warrior is a refreshing change of pace but his journey into the corrupt underbelly of Old World business practices goes totally against my grain. Â Yet for some reason I really enjoy this series. Â I think it's due mostly in part to the lovely leading lady that puts the Wolf in Spice & Wolf. Â Following Holo on her journey across the country with Lawrence has become an unexpected guilty pleasure of mine. Kino's Journey - Gulliver's Travels Meets Anime. Â That's the only way I can describe this series. Â What I can't describe is why I have come to adore it so much. Â There's just something about the series' introspective look into some of mankind's quirks that just appeals to me. Â Kino herself is so likable as a character as well. Â I truly envy her freedom sometimes and wish I could just up and leave my mundane life behind and travel the world like she does. Â On the other hand...... Mushishi - ......I probably wouldn't want to travel the world where Ginko plies his trade. Â Those Mushi are just plain creepy. Â But watching this series from the safety of my home is a relaxing experience. Â Mushishi is, to put it simply, a beautiful series. Â The art and music are outstanding and the individual storylines are like a peaceful island in a sea of catgirls, giant robots and badass samurai. Â Watching Mushishi is a good way to unwind when I need a change of pace. Shoulder-A-Coffin Kuro - It's sad but must of you have probably never even heard of this manga. Â I'd explain to you what it's about but that's a little hard to do. Â There's something about a girl named Kuro trying to track down a witch before the curse that said witch placed upon her ends her life but, for the most part, the series just follows Kuro and her companions around from one town to the next. Â It's a slice-of-life sort of series. Â Each chapter stands alone and might consist of nothing more than Kuro sharing a cup of tea with a new friend. Â It's a whimsical series that, for some reason, I can't put down.
19. The following quotes are all based on their official English translations as licensed by their respective studios. "I want my NOOKIE!" Â ~ Mugen from Samurai Champloo "Yo yo yo. Â Best give me yo ho." ~ Fatty Buccha from Air Gear "What are you, stupid?" Â ~ Asuka from Evangelion "Idiot." Â ~ Ruri from Martian Successor Nadesico "I....am Samurai Gun." ~ Ichimatsu from Samurai Gun
20. Probably the two biggest series I'm into right now are Soul Eater and Gintama. Â I'm about to wrap up Soul Eater this week but Gintama is going to be a long-lasting pleasure at just over 200 episodes. Â I'm also expecting the second volumes of Kurokami and Queen's Blade next weekend. Â As for manga I'm currently reading Dance In the Vampire Bund (don't judge me man), Fairy Tail and a bunch of other titles that trickle in every few months. Â Air Gear and Elemental Gelade are being updated sporadically but I refuse to give up on either of them. Â
21. I'm casting my vote for Papillion from Buso Renkin. Â He turned out to be more of an anti-hero than an actual villain but no matter which side he was on I just felt like cheering him on because of his stubborn refusal to give up on either himself or Kazuki. Â No matter how bad their situations were or what kind of odds he was up again Papillion always rose to the occasion and came up with a brilliant plan to turn things around. Not only that but the dude had style. Â His choice in clothing was questionable at best but Pappy totally pulled it off. Â He was so charismatic and upbeat you couldn't help but like the guy.Â
22. The first thought that ran through my mind when I read the title of this thread was "Yeah, time to hate on Allen from Escaflowne." but that was covered in the first reply so I'm going to go with my number two choice: That being this assclown right here: For the record let me state that I am not, nor have I ever, been a fan of Inuyasha. Â My ex-girlfriend at the time, however, was a HUGE fan of that series and of Fluffy there in particular. Â Being in competition with a girly-looking emo/demon bishounen for my true love's affection did tend to leave me with a lasting hatred for his sissy-looking ass. Oh, and speaking of sissy..... I once posted on a friend's Inuyasha fansite that Sesshomaru was a cross-dresser because he wears makeup and furs and then repeatedly referred to him as "Sissyshomaru" for a while. Â Man, I got so much hate mail (and a couple of death threats) from underage Fluffy fangirls that my hatred for the guy reached a whole new level of intensity. And this being the #2 object of my hate you can only imagine how much I detest Allen Schezar.
23. If I had to list one of the most underrated animes of all time I'd have to say Birdy the Mighty.  Sure we got the OVAs over here but that was back in the dark ages of VHS.  They re-released them in DVD format but they're difficult to find and pretty pricy these days.  The series was popular enough to garner a TV series in Japan but it hasn't been released here in American yet.  More recent titles that I feel are underrated are Elemental Gelade, Air Gear, Utawarerumono and Scrapped Princess.  All are excellent series' that pass below the radar all too often. Â
24. Hey,  I just joined the forum but I've been into anime for around twenty years now.  I collect anime/manga and I've got a huge library but for some reason I've never been a member of a  community like this before.  Plenty of gaming sites but never one devoted to anime.  Weird huh? Anyway I'll catch you kids on the flip-flop. Â
