Well, I always watch A Christmas Story every December at least once, usually more, though. I also saw Mixed Nuts for the first time last year, and I think that it might be adopted into the tradition, as well. Oh, and Christmas Vacation is a must.

When Vicky mentioned sci-fi posters, I naturally thought of the 50's. So if you could somehow pull off a 1984 poster in this style: click 1 click 2 that would be awesome.
I also listened to what you linked to, Mr Maul. I'm not really that keen on the first part, though it catches my attention a lot more as it moves along. It's quite interesting really, I might look into some more. And as for Amadeus, I like the movie to... except... it was a bit 'dodgy' on the basis of historical truths, so I hear.
Yeah... I find that introduction to be a tad too erratic as well, although one of the album's themes is dark, despairing chaos, so I guess it works. Most of the songs on that album have rather long intros, but this one is by far the best: Hajnal In that song, he "samples excerpts from the second of Stravinsky's 3 Pieces for Clarinet" (Wikipedia), reworks elements from the Red Violin soundtrack (my own knowledge), and also Paganini's 24 Caprices (again, me). What you said about Amadeus: Aren't all historical movies a bit dodgy? And to Jake: Definitely Vivaldi (sorry, Vicky).

The score for A Clockwork Orange consisted of classical works performed by Wendy Carlos on synthesizers. She was also involved with the Tron soundtrack. My absolute favorite piece if classical music is the Cello Suite 1 in G Prelude (as performed by Yo-Yo Ma on the Master and Commander soundtrack) by J. S. Bach. It is a heavenly and truly beautiful song that I can just listen to over and over again without growing tired. Mozart is also a favorite of mine (I love the movie Amadeus), as I find his works to be creative and sometimes fun, yet also quite dark at times. Back to electronic classical music: I must once again plug the album Rossz Csillag Alatt Született by Venetian Snares. It is, in my opinion, the greatest re-working of classical music ever. It is hard to describe in words just how massively epic this album is. Here is a link to one song off of the album: Szamár Madár It is definitely not one to skip over, especially if you love classical music.
Anyway, Crusaders of the Card Table sounds absolutely dreamy. I was a huge DnD nerd in high school, so this is right up my alley. I have some concerns about the 'Five Minutes to a Post' rule, but it may actually benefit the players since they are kind of forced focus on dialogue as opposed to action. This gives you, the Game Master, a lot of room to control the story since there is only so much damage your players could do in five minutes, so to speak. I have a lot of relatively small questions about the gane, but it's definitely something I'd be interested in doing. -Shy
I was actually hoping that you, specifically, would be interested in it. You have a habit of having successful RPGs. As for the time constraints on the posts, it wouldn't necessarily have to be five minutes. I was just using that as an example. However, I think there should be a limit on the length of "game time" within posts (at least in the Real World thread - time flows differently inside a game than it does outside of it). Like you said, it would force the players to write more focused posts. I'll come up with a round's worth of example posts, seeing as how even I get confused when I read over my explanation of how posting will work. I'd also love to hear (read) your questions, Shy, no matter how trivial. I know you're busy with other projects, but I'd thoroughly enjoy undertaking this RPG with you in the future. This is an idea I've had for quite a while, but I've never gotten around to putting it into practice. A lot of the following description comes straight from a pm I sent Sandy a long time ago, however I've added to it considerably for this post. Please excuse the fact that these thoughts and ideas are extremely jumbled. They are still just chunks of raw creativity that I have yet to refine, so bear with me and do your best to follow along. The idea of COTCT is that the participants play as people playing a DnD-esque RPG called "Fantasy Land." Their character's just a person sitting in a basement/kitchen/what/ever playing Fantasy Land with the rest of the characters. Of course, it is a tad bit more "deeper" than that. For example, one side story that could be told is that one of the Role Players (in the RPG, not on OtakuBoards) could be asked if he/she remembered to buy snacks for their game session. The RP'er would say no, thus having to go to the store and buy some, however, the store that he/she visits gets robbed while they are there, and the robbers hold the whole store hostage when the police arrive. Meanwhile, back at the house, the RP'ers start the game without the person being held hostage, completely unaware of what is going on at the store. It is not until one of the RP'ers turns on the TV and sees their fellow Role Player being held hostage on the News that they realize what's going on. Then there could be a situation where a few of the RP'ers decide to try and rescue their friend. The possibilities are endless. That is only one half of the game. COTCT is divided into two parts: "The Real World," which is the world inhabited by the roleplayers, and the other half, "Fantasy Land," which takes place within the game that the RP'ers are playing. Essentially, everyone that signs up for this RPG will be playing as two separate characters: The roleplayers in The Real World, and their roleplaying characters in Fantasy Land. This is the tricky bit. For each turn that a participant takes, they will be writing two individual posts for two separate threads. A diagram: The posts in the Real World thread will represent increments of five minutes (unless otherwise noted) in time, whereas posts in the Fantasy Land thread will have their time dictated by the GM (again, unless otherwise noted). In order to prevent confusion, everyone should put the time in the subject of each of their posts (in both threads). Once one complete cycle of posts has been completed, it begins again, with the GM giving the progress/story/turn narration/summary/description at the beginning of each cycle. An RPG like this would require lots of preperation time, and a considerable amount of planning on not only the Organizer's part, but also the participants'. I'd like to keep the participant list relatively small, say 5-7 people. I have always been a fan of "Controlled Freedom," in games and collaborative story telling. There is a strict outline of events that will inevitably happen during the RPG, however, these events are kept secret from the participants until they actually occur within the game. Now, the participants are given an insane amount of freedom to explore and be creative in the game, but once they start to cross over the line and push the "boundaries," the game will start to push back. The amount of "pushing" the players do will directly affect the amount of pushing they will receive. Again, another diagram: As you can see, sometimes the players stray too far from the story of the game, and at times even go the wrong direction (figuratively speaking). It is through "divine" intervention that the story gets back on track and remains on course. I know this has been done before using chapters and scenes and whatnot in other RPGs on here, but I would like to use it in a "Game Master" manner. When the characters in the game are role playing, their own character's actions in Fantasy Land will be limited and directed by the GM in The Real World. There will be a continuously updated signup thread throughout the entirety of the game. Not everyone can be main characters, though "special guests" will always be needed. Whenever an additional character is needed in the game, it will be listed in the signup thread. Members can then apply for the role just as they would for a regular RPG signup. There are plenty more ideas for this rolling around in my head, but sleep is calling me. I would greatly appreciate any and all comments, questions, feedback, concerns, or what have you, because I honestly don't know how an RPG like this would be received on the boards. EDIT: Once again, I see that someone has beaten me to the punch...
We're using something called The Landmark System, which is a variation of something used in Hybrid Vigor (among other places.) The idea is that the story will be going on regardless of your player's actions, and that certain events, objects and discoveries will push the story forward with or without your involvement.
That is exactly what I was attempting to describe when I was talking about "Divine Intervention," and the game pushing back. I really need to work on my thought-writing coordination.
Anyone else on these boards know what i'm talking about?[/COLOR']
What a laughable question. Of course, I know what you're talking about. I listen to all forms of dance music, including gabber. I prefer hardstyle to gabber, though the two are very similar. Ravenstorture, have you per chance heard the song "On The Floor" by DJ Caffeine? It's not necessarily gabber or hardstyle, but it's a great song, nonetheless. Unfortunately, you just uploaded the Windows Movie Maker project file, which does not include the audio files in it. What you need to do is just upload the audio file you recorded and forget about saving it as a movie maker file. I can line up everything for everyone, so you people don't have to worry about being exact when you record. And no, I was not in The Postal Service. Edit: And for the love of poop, people... If you're going to save your files as an MP3, make sure the bitrate is AT LEAST 192kbps. Thank you.
Was it just the harsh vocals at the beginning that you didn't, or all the harsh vocals in general? I know they're kind of low in the mix during that first section of riffs before the acoustic/piano interlude, and the recording quality on them actually isn't as high as the rest of the harshes (I recorded them on different days in different environments), so I'm wondering if you picked up on that or if harsh vocals just aren't your cup of tea.
I don't mind some harsh vocals, it's just that your particular brand of harsh vocals don't appeal to me (no offense). It was just too deep and rumbly and monotone (again, no offense - I liked the rest of the vocals in the song) for my liking. Other than that, it was a great song. Epic... that's the adjective.

The Extreme/Heavy Music That Isn't Metal Thread!
Mr. Maul replied to Jakehammaren's topic in Noosphere
Some people seem to be forgetting that rock bands aren't the only artists who make extreme/heavy music. The Prodigy have been around for almost twenty years now, and with each new album, their sound just gets heavier and more intense. To quote Liam Howlett, it's simply, "bass, beats, and bullocks." Badass, as well. Also, Venetian Snares has been pushing the envelope when it comes to abrasively extreme electronic music for quite some time now.
