1.
I eat cottage cheese every day up at school. It's one of those things on the salad bar that are just good[/i'], and you can eat it with nearly anything. On sandwiches, with cereal, with canned fruit, with fresh fruit, on pizza, with potato chips, with spaghetti, with veggies, on baked potatos, on toast, in soup, with jello, on salad...
I am a food/drink concoction fiend. And on the topic of salad bars, that is where I am a cottage cheese artist. The best way to eat cottage cheese is to add bacon bits, dill relish, shredded cheddar cheese (mmm... eating cheese with cheese) and a little bit of sunflower seeds. Then you grab a couple dozen packs of crackers and scoop up this wonderful cottage cheese creation one cracker-full at a time. Also, mixing cottage cheese with salsa is amazing. For all those out there who don't eat cottage cheese because it's a "spoiled" food, I have a question for you. Do you drink alcohol? And isn't all cheese "spoiled" to some degree?

  5. It seems as if everyone here has failed to realize that Emo is just the overall title of the fashion/culture, and there are many sub-cultures underneath the umbrella of this title. Similar to how the word Rock encompasses many musical genres. It also seems as if most of you skipped straight to the last page to post your response without ever stopping to read anything in between.
Fasteriskhead][/size']Might I ask the community to make a good faith effort at skimming the rest of the thread before adding anything themselves?
First off, I am going to be refering to Emo and all its sub-categories strictly in the fashion since of the words. Now I will be quoting various sources describing the fashions, but I am also going to provide pictures, seeing as how most of the people who respond to this thread don't read what has been said. For the most part, what people have been identifying as emo is actually known as Scene, or Hardcore. Now, I find that it's very difficult to put into words a description of what Scene Kids look like, or "what they are," but apparently these people have no problems doing so:
- Girl pants. TIGHT girl pants (**shudder**) - [strike]Black[/strike] make-up - [strike]"No one understands me"[/strike] - Hair in face, covering one eye - [strike]obsessed with taking pictures of themselves[/strike] - [strike]the color BLACK.[/strike]

I duno abput the black, that isn't all that emo. They usually wear blue jeans with white belts. Jackets often as well with either really short or tucked-in shirts. Most emo kids aren't as emotional as the music[/color'].
One thing they forgot to mention would be piercings, including, but not limited to lip, eyebrow, and labret piercings, and also various types of earrings, most notably gauges, or flesh tunnels, although I have seen hip piercings. Tattoos, bandanas, and fingerless gloves are also very popular. The reason I said that I have a hard time putting to words "what exactly scene is" is because there is no exact deffinition of it. The style(s) vary from person to person, region to region. You either know it when you see it, or you don't. I'm just trying to help those who don't by giving them a very general description.
Commonly seen styles include dark colored hair, dyed either black, red, multi-colored (brown and black, red and purple, etc.), or an unnatural dark hue, males wearing pants tailored for females... and dark make-up on males and females (most notably black eyeliner, although red eyeshadow is becoming increasingly popular). A common accessory for both males and females is glasses with a dark coloured (usually black), thick rim, a style sometimes even worn by persons who do not require corrective eye-wear.
Scene is the most recognized form of emo out there, but there is another form which most people do not realize. This second incarnation of emo has been around long before scene came to the, well, scene. This second style has more of an indie rock look about it, rather than the "punkish" look of scene, but it still emo, all the same. I'm not going to spend the time describing this look, but rather provide a link to a decent source. http://www.aldroid.com/emo/# They provide numerous examples of this fashion.
Um can you answer my stupid questions? -Do you use painkillers when you cut yourselves? -Isn't it hot when you wear all black in the summer? -I thought emo people wanted to liek not conform to the system is that true? -Why are your emotions so extreme? -Uhh since all people have strong emotions at soem tiem does that make everyone at some point? -What do you call emo people who only wear emo clothes as a fashion statement? -Do emo people really listen to that yelling stuff? -Oh and how do you goth chicks look so hot(not temperature wise)?
1. Click Here 2. No. 3. Click Here (Read the second deffinition) 4. Seeing as how this one is unintelligible, I'm just going to move on to the next. 5. Not all of them are "poseurs," due to the fact that "emo" can be defined as either a type of fashion or a musical genre, so if you listen to "emo" music but don't wear "emo" clothes, or vice versa, this does not make you a poseur. 6. It all depends on personal preference. Just as there are numerous emo cultures, there are also numerous genres of emo music, such as emo, screamo, hardcore, post-hardcore, and then onto the more indie emo bands such as Dashboard Confessional and The Postal Service, and also "Pop Emo" bands like Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance. 7. They don't.
personality has nothing to do with emo kids. Its 100% fashion trend[/b']. Anyone could be emo, they just wanna be in that croud >_>
For the most part, this is true, although it all started out as a musical movement, but then it sort of branched into the two.
In general, the people who identify with emo fashion and music are middle-class high schoolers experiencing love and heartbreak for the first time. Are they "veyr suicidal"? I doubt it. Everyone goes through rough times, everyone had moments when they feel left out, and everyone wants to belong to something. They identify with the music, they like the clothes--they aren't all about to kill themselves, any more than the goths of yesteryear were exclusively devil-worshipping psychopaths.
Finally! Someone who understands that there is an actual difference between Emo and Goth. Bravo!
I guess my point is this: Depression is real, and it affects a lot of high schoolers. Suicide is also real and, sadly, also[/i'] affects a lot of high schoolers. I think that kids who feel they belong to something--even an angst-ridden music and fashion trend--are less likely to actually pull the trigger, take the pills, or drive off the road.
Living in the Midwest, I know PLENTY of "emo" kids, but I have never met a single one that was depressed/suicidal in any way. "Emo" kids are some of the most up-beat and out-going people out there. Just because someone is "emo," doesn't automaticaly mean they are suicidal. That's just stereotyping. Of course, this whole post(thread) could be considered stereotyping. Anyway, I think I've made a big enough point here. Case closed.

    Characters

It all depends on the story. If it's a RP based on a piece of literature, movie, anime, etc, then sure, it's fine by me if my character is pre-written. However, if I am allowed to create a character for that RP, then I'd probably do so, because then I have more control. Of course, if the story is completely original, then it's a whole new ballgame. For most original RP's, I like to build my own character from scratch, but I'll often base it off of various aspects from various sources. Again, more control over the character's personality, traits, what have you. But, if it's a really great story, and I have to use an OP-created character in order to play, then by George, I'm going to use it. I've got a new RP in the early developing stages, and I am deciding whether or not to try out a new idea with it. There would be a few characters that the RP'ers can create all by themselves, and of course there would be the OP-created characters, but also there will be characters where I tell you their personality, traits, stats, etc, at the start of the RPG. The RP'ers job will be to write the background of that character, telling why he/she is the way they are now, and then as they play, they can cause their character to evolve out of their personality, or stay the same if they so choose. Kinda confusing, I know, but does anyone else think that this could be another possibility, besides the ones stated by Sara?
  8. Most of these were done back in the day when the only image editing software I had was MS Paint. Truly old skool... 10. Who would I like to meet from OB? In the flesh? Why, that's an easy one! Every single new member. Why? So I could line them all up and smack them one at a time with an official MLA handbook. Maybe I'd make a second trip down the line with a dictionary. If I had the energy, that is. Also, I'd like to meet anyone who has ever been so kind as to talk to me on the boards (in an insulting manner or not) because, you know, I'm a loser on here and nobody ever talks to me.
  11. Wait... I thought we were going for the most icons. When did this become golf?
  12. Bah! It was so obvious (assuming you are correct, Boba Fett)! Why didn't I see it!? Maybe I could edit my answer... (Just kidding. Please don't kill me, mods!)
  13. DeadSeraphim, everyone else may be noticing your "Porn" folder, but I, on the other hand, noticed your "/B/ Images" folder. Good call. This first one is what my desktop usually looks like... But, I decided I should clean it up since I had guests visiting... And for goodness' sake! Use a coaster!
  14. I like where this is going, and yet at the same time I'm not exactly sure where this is going. What is this going to be? Just a place where newer, less-experienced members drop off their posts to be proofread for mistakes, and then have them handed back? Or will it be a place where guidelines and faqs are posted, illustrating proper grammar usage, such as the difference between your and you're, or its and it's? Or could it be a place where older, more experienced RP'ers can offer advice and give pointers on how others can make their RPG's better and more compelling? Why not all of these ideas at once? They all have merit and potential (mainly because I suggested them), but I agree with Random on the fact that there would have to be a Sub-Forum created solely for this purpose, although I thought that was what the Arena Underground was for. A place where people go to get the lumps messaged out of their RPG's. Anyway, I have no idea where I'm going with this except that I'm for the idea once all the details get worked out. I may not participate in RPG's very often (or ever), but I am a writer and I have three years of Advanced Placement English experience under my belt, so I'd be up for some good ol' fashioned grammificationizing, if needed.
  15. My current favorite band? The Prodigy. No doubt about it. They've been my favorite group for the past two years, and I don't see that changing any time soon. They are just too unbelievably talented (and when I say "they," I'm mainly refering to Liam Howlett, since he is the lead man and pretty much does everything, although I do give much props to Flint and Maxim). Every album they put out sounds completely different from the last, and yet it still has that distinct Prodigy sound. I have no idea how Howlett manages to pull it off. Coming in a close second is Mindless Self Indulgence. I mean, come on! It's MSI! Amazing! That's all I can say.
  16. Hmm... Interesting. About Me (Pretty much just copied off of my MySpace and FaceBook) Name: James Age: 17 Location: P-Town, IN Interests: Film, art, literature, music (listening to/making of), technology, graffiti, gaming, various underground subcultures. Hobbies: Photography, graphic design, music production (I produce/perform under the stage name "Jimmy Speed"), web design, misc. artistic endeavors. Music: Alright, seeing as how there are too many bands/artists to name, I'll just list some genres: Jungle/DnB, Trip Hop, Funk, Breakbeat, Old Skool Hip Hop, Reggae, Punk, Electropunk, "Industrial Jungle
*****
Punk," 70's Rock. (If you do want to know bands, just PM me. I just might tell you) Movies: Reservoir Dogs, Fight Club, Three Days of the Condor, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Hackers, Dark Star, Ferris Bueler's Day Off, Dr. Strangelove, O Brother Where Art Thou?, The Breakfast Club, Dogma, The Matrix (the first one), A Clockwork Orange... TV: Arrested Development, Scrubs, The Office (both versions), LOST, ATHF, & Family Guy. Heist was on the list, but they cancelled it... Books: Fight Club, A Clockwork Orange, The Fugitive Game, The Art of Deception, anything by Eoin Colfer, Hitchhiker's Guide series, MegaTokyo, PLA or just about any H/P/A zine/texts, etc... Misc: Umm, I'm in an experimental electronic rock band known as The Vermicious Knids. Our first show was last Friday. I can't wait to get out of this smelly little town. As my title states, I've been a member on the boards for over four years now (I'm like a geezer or something). I can't roll my "R's." I try to be a genuinely nice guy, but sometimes... That was fun. We should do this again sometime!
  17. Hmm... Is #2 The Legionnaires? Perhaps?
  18. My, my, my... so many books, and yet so little time... Let me help you "skinny" down the list: Books To Read 1. The Artemis Fowl Quadrilogy by Eoin Colfer - You don't have to read all four books, just the first (Artemis Fowl) and the third (The Eternity Code). I got the first book when it came out about five years ago, and I've read it every year since. These books are a great read and Harry Potter's got nothing on them. 2. The Hitchhicker's Guide Quadrilogy by Douglas Adams - With these, however, you do have to read all four books. They are amazing. Even if you're not a sci-fi fan, you'll still love them. 3. Any Book by Chuck Palahniuk is pretty much a safe bet (that is if you're not easily offended by explicit sexual dialogue, graphic violence, and vulgar language). As stated, Fight Club and Choke are probably his most popular works. 4. A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess - Simply fantastic. Once you get past the "language barrier," it becomes a real page-turner. A word of advice on this one - it helps if you just read through the book instead of constantly turning to the glossary in the back of the book (if your book has a glossary). The words make a whole lot more since if you just read them in context. 5. A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley - Much better than Orwell's 1984, in my opinion, though slightly different subject matter. If you're going to read one of the two, I deffinitely recommend read ABNW. 6. Pretty Much Any Book by John Steinbeck, with Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men being my favorites. Read OMAM first, because it's shorter and it will give you a better feel of Steinbeck's style, that way you'll know whether or not you want to tackle a giant like GOW. 7. To Kill A Mocking Bird by Harper Lee - Yet another classic that's actually good. And like Athena said:
At first, it's really slow; but it sucks you in.
8. House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski - Although I've only read the first five chapters of it, it's a pretty good book (from what I can tell). Different, but good. A couple friends of mine have read the whole thing (one of which acts as if it's his Bible) and they love it. So if you're up to it, you can try to read this monstrosity. 9. And finally, The Fugitive Game by Jonathan Littman and Catch Me If You Can by Frank Abagnale - Two great non-fiction works about lives of crime. Deffinitely check these out. Books Not To Read (The reason being for all of these is that, for a lack of a better word, they suck) 1. The Crucible by Arthur Miller - Horrible. So is Death of a Salesman. As a matter of fact, don't read anything by Arthur Miller. Ever. 2. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne - Yawn 3. Sister Carrie by Theodore Drieser - Rips out hair, then pulls gun on self 4. Anything by Charles Dickens - Stabs person sitting next me in the jaw 5. Anything by William Shakespeare - Okay, maybe just Romeo and Juliet. And As You Like It. And Julius Caesar. Nevermind, just scratch that. Never read anything by ol' Bill. 6. The Odyssey and The Iliad by Homer - Just rent Clash of the Titans (or was that Remember the Titans?). They're based on the same thing (insert sarcasm here). 7. 1984 by George Orwell - You could either A: Read the first five chapters and then the last three, or B: Just Read Huxley's A Brave New World because it's better. Your choice. 8. The Jungle by Who Cares - Stabs a pig in the jaw Well, there's my two cents on reading. Hope somebody actually bothers to read this. You migh learn something. Nah... I doubt it.
  19. It seems as if the main reason everyone likes Firefox is because of its tabbing feature. That's pretty much why I like it. Also, back when I still had dialup, Firefox would load pages much faster than IE (it still does). The only problem I have with it is the complex nature of its temporary internet files. With IE, all you had to do was click on a few options and boom! you were right there, viewing all your files. But with FF, it's different. It's not as accessible. Oh, and for those of you who use IE but still have FF (White), if you open up FF and click on Help and then For Internet Explorer Users, it should give you some helpful starters for transitioning. link
  20. Male chauvinism really pisses me off. It's not necessarily how they're raised (although that does play a large role), but how society says they should be. Some have mentioned how music could be a factor in all of this, and it is (see rap music), but I believe that television plays a larger role in the entire scheme of things. Look at the shows on tv these days. How many of them involve these "macho" guys treating their girl like some sort of posession? A lot, that's how many. And sports? Don't get me started on sports... But then again, my blaming tv on the world's problems could just be my way of finding a scapegoat. Sometimes people are just stupid and there's nothing you can do about it.
