Writing Warning! This thread contains unmarked spoilers!: Harry Potter, Book 6.
Mitch replied to Sandy's topic in Creative Works
Alex, to be honest, you sound like a pompous jackass by what you've said in this thread. I'm not going to sit here and refute anything you've said, nor should anyone else. You've never read the books so you shouldn't be saying anything at all. You don't understand what's good about them. More or less, you sound like you're purposely saying all this just to turn some people's gears and get them mad, which is all in typical PT fashion. Well, you can think whatever you want, my friend, but a lot of people are going to disagree with you. -
Go watch Minority Report instead. It kicks this movie's *** and is also a sci-fi movie. Funnily enough, Cruise and Spielburg did Minority Report together too. The result is a lot better than this annoyingly average movie. It had its high points but was disappointing.

Yeah, so some jackasses on Livejournal are absolutely ruining this book for a lot of people. Some people applaud it. I really don't. Someone had a certain name that gave away a lot of what happens in this book. . .as well as someone made a post about this. I clicked a link to this post and now the book's ruined in some ways for me. Idiots. -
Um , In Finland this game is forbidden from under 18 years old, but still there are hordes of kids even under 10 years playing it. It's simply because some parents buy it for their kid, probably thinking that it's only a stupid videogame, and then all the kids from the neighborhood suddenly pour over to play this magnificent masterpiece of everything immoral. I find this very concerning, because a) I've played GTA 1, 2 and 3, and seen Vice City and San Adreas being played, so I know what kind of game we're talking about, and b) I've worked with 8-year old kids who have played the game or seen it being played, and I've witnessed what it does to them. I think you teenagers shouldn't pass this issue with a diminishing sniff or snicker. Even though you have no responsibilities over your minors, you should have at least some sense of what exposing to extreme violence and criminality does to their minds. I totally agree that there are worse things than GTA-games that young kids can see and experience, but these games are still no innocent toys for kids to play with! The only way to prevent these games from getting into the hands of preteens and younger is to make them Adults Only. Maybe then the parents would realize that not all games are mere toys...
Well, I completely disagree with you. I'm not going to argue. You know where I stand, and you know where you stand. If we're going to make this game AO, we might as well censor the hell out of everything else out there. And you know, it's not my fault parents buy their kids this game. That has nothing to do with it. Kids see violence all the time on TV, it's not as if this is any worse, really. Just because you see it doesn't mean you'll do it. Sure, younger kids are more meldable, but they shouldn't play this game in the first place. It's rated M for a reason. It's not my fault some parents buy it for their kid. That's not an issue, I think, and isn't a valid reason for it to be changed.
Its not the companies to blame, its the parents who let their kids get their hands on the game.
Exactly my point. The parents are to blame. It isn't the fault of the game companies or anyone else. Perhaps the media should just get it heard out there about the games their kids are playing? Or perhaps the parents should actually look into what they're buying their kids before they get it? Other than that, an AO rating is ridiculous. An M rating already only allows someone 17+ to get the game. By the age of 17+, someone has enough sense to know what's real and what's not.

That's just our over-sensitive media and parents talking there. Welcome to America. Instead of focusing on things that are more important, let's pick on the little wimps out there. The little things so small they really don't matter. Next they'll want our lunch money. I really tire of stuff like this, you know. But oh well. Not much I can do.

Yeah, I love Dessy too. He's uber-obsessed with the game and always on. We've had many a good time. Tony's char is the same classes mine is, that's interesting. And sorry Tony, but you sound like an elitist bastard by saying how crappy our textures look. Sorry I don't have it up to your specifications. It costs money for stuff like that, you know. Money I and many others don't have. Here's a pic of my new character. She's a Me/ E. I haven't even read Order of the Phoenix yet. I plan on getting it and reading it, sometime. I mean you can get the book in softcover for 5 bucks now, so that shouldn't be a problem. I still enjoy the Harry Potter books, although not as much as when I read the first three of them. Every book kind of feels like more of the same to me anyway, but even that's good enough for me I guess. My interest has waned overall though. I used to really love these books, now I just like them. -
I've got a Primary Mesmer as well now, as some know. She's only level 3 thus far, but I'm getting there. I plan to be a Me/ E. Perhaps I'll post some pics up later, those are always fun.

To be honest, this is a rather dull thread. Just posting a list is boring. In my moderator-esque lamentations, I'd say everyone should at least explain a few CDs they've got in their CD cases - just give an anecdote about it, some little story; or, just say what's great about the CD that makes it worth being in your CD case. The Police - Every Breath You Take the Classics John Lennon - Lennon Legend AFI - Sing the Sorrow Mastodon - Leviathan Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica Wilco - A Ghost Is Born Metallica - St. Anger Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of the Silent Earth Radiohead - Kid A Chrono Trigger - Chrono Trigger Soundtrack Say Anything - . . .Is a Real Boy Deftones - Deftones Bright Eyes - Digital Ash in a Digital Urn The Dresden Dolls - The Dresden Dolls Led Zeppelin - Latter Days Led Zeppelin - Early Days Led Zeppelin - How the West Was Won (CD 1) Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral Bad Religion - The Empire Strikes First Parasite Eve - Parasite Eve OST A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon Coldplay - X&Y Coldplay - Parachutes Muse - Absolution Radiohead - Hail to the Thief Radiohead - Amnesiac Radiohead - Com Lag Radiohead - Pablo Honey The White Stripes - Elephant Damien Rice - O System of a Down - Toxicity Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks Beck - Guero Radiohead - The Bends Tool - Aenema Metallica - Master of Puppets Korn - Untouchables Butthole Surfers - Electriclarryland Pink Floyd - A Momentary Lapse of Reason Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights Marilyn Manson - Antichrist Superstar AFI - The Art of Drowning tweaker - 2 a.m. wake-up call Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot System of a Down - Mesmerize Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head Pink Floyd - The Wall R.E.M - Out of Time Thursday - War All the Time Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals Rush - 2112 Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth Pixies- Bossanova Pixies - Doolittle The Doors - The Doors Legacy For those who wonder, this isn't even all the music CDs I own. There's still more, but it's just not in a CD case. Anyway, you'll notice I've got a lot of Radiohead. Radiohead's an excellent band, and for those who've not heard them, you really need to check them out. Also, Turn on the Bright Lights by Interpol is an excellent album too, and so are so many other albums I've got here. AFI's Sing the Sorrow was good, but I enjoy The Art of Drowning a lot more. A lot of people don't seem to have heard their older stuff, so if you want to listen to some of their older stuff, go for The Art of Drowning. Also, Wilco is an excellent band if you've not heard of them. I'd say you should get A Ghost Is Born if you want to get into them. Pixies, too, are wonderful - an '80's band that's recently rebanded together. They're excellent. If you want me to give you my opinion of any CD I've got here, just ask. I'll talk about any.

Well, I've bought some metal pads now. They haven't arrived yet. The last two days, I've played DDR till I burn 1,000 calories. Been playing DDR Max. Playing a lot of "Healing Vision (Angelic Mix)." God is that song ever crazy. It's getting easier, though. DDR is always getting easier; I'm always feeling better at it. I've actually passed "Healing Vision (Angelic Mix)," but only with a D. And just barely. Anyone heard that this fall DDR Extreme 2 comes out? Man am I ever excited. Also, has anyone checked out In The Groove for the PS2? I don't know. I might buy it but I really don't want to. I'm turned off by it. I like DDR and all the other rip-offs of it just aren't as good to me. I've now gotten an "A" on Drop Out Heavy, which I'm proud of. Still no chance in hell of me passing "The Legend of Max" on Heavy. That's one thing that I hate about Extreme - in the training mode, you can't slow down a song's speed like you can in Max and Max 2. Thus, I can't learn the steps of "The Legend of Max" so I can do it easier normally. I've gotten an A on "The Legend of Max" on Standard, however. Same with "MaxX Unlimited" too. I'm getting good. Still have forever to go. I've now started playing doubles a bit too. It's not too hard, just need to sharpen the skills at it.

Mr. Webb, your short story has some terrible qualities to it. Mainly grammatical. Shall I point them out? I shall - -
I might just go read the second volume tomorrw afterschool.
"Tomorrow" is spelled "T-o-m-o-r-r-o-w," and "afterschool" should be separated: "after school." In all cases and senses, you suck, Mr. Webb, and should never grace this forum again with your dastardly writing skills. That was hilarious, Sara. :p I wish we had a Borders, but we don't. :( We've got good ole Barnes and Noble, though, of course.

The convoluted line breaks serve to give this poem a feeling of sputtering, grasping, strangling, holding on. Then at the end, the final breath is left out in the final stanza on the final line. I enjoyed its rawness and would personally not edit it (I really only sharpen some things I write if they aren't sharp enough, otherwise I leave them raw). Nicely done.

I like how you used a voice that's unlike your own personal writing voice - a voice of an old lady. You did pull it off, too, pretty well. I can't really relate to this story, and the old woman sounds altogether selfish and paranoid, which I disliked about her character. What was nice was how you linked the end with the beginning (the whole "I will wait for you. . .if it takes forever),, showing how this woman does this every day with pretty much the same result. . .showing how she can keep hope, a fruitless hope, but a hope nonetheless.
-
I really don't have much to say about the poem, I guess many people don't. Its meaning is clear; and I like the repetitive, almost song-like quality of it, and the rhyming is well-executed as well. I didn't find this poem to be particularily amazing or anything, but that's obviously not its purpose. It wasn't mindblowing but it was good.

I've never really given the more realistic types of games too much of a chance, but I've got an itch to finally truly play Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec since we own it. I'd say I definitely prefer the wackier racing games. Games like Need for Speed or Mario Kart or Midnight Club - and lately, Burnout 3 (which is an excellent game, I might add). I guess I just figure games aren't meant to be realistic, and they're meant to be fun. And that's what I like about the crazier games, they're just plain fun.

I think the next character I make will be a Mesmer, yes indeed; we need a pirmary Mesmer, badly, it seems. Anyway, last night was fun. Did a quest with both Desko and Alex, and this was my first time meeting up with Alex. All-in-all, twas fun. This is a pic before we left. Desko's character, Amelia, is on the left, Alex's Ms. Ashland is standing, and the one on the right is Mortus Rigor, my character. Snazzy capes, eh?

Just wanted to let everyone know I chose my secondary profession, as well as I'm in Searing now for anyone who wants to venture with me. I'm a Necromancer/ Monk now, since James said we needed more Monks, so that is what I chose.
-
I'd nab that Necro Rune from you, Warlock. Once I catch you I'll have to get it from you. I take it you're post-searing though, so it'll be a while till I get to searing yet (I'm taking my time). Can you put it on layaway for me? Anyway, I just got done playing for a few more hours. . .did some quests, etc. I'm now level 7. Woo. Anyway, I found this really amusing: There was this guild sitting at the fort dancing, in sync, and it was hilarious. It's too bad this simple screenshot doesn't do the hilarity of it justice. It was great, though. Alex, I was wondering how you got rid of everything on the screen so it was clean and didn't have the map or anything at all, other than just the screenshot? Anyway, I've really enjoyed this game thus far. I've never been too into online RPGs, but this game is really opening my horizons. It's great. Dessy and I did a few quests together today. It was my first time actually having another player along with me, and it was fun. Anyway, I've got this really nice pic of my character. Alex wanted me to post up a screenshot of him, so here you go (looks pretty damn nice on my Radeon 7200, I must say :P):

I got it today, and my name's Mortus Rigor, so send me up an invite. Well anyway, I've got to go. Work, and such.
-
I was really considering buying this game a few days ago, but didn't. I think I might end up buying it soon enough - I've got money. Looks like fun. And it looks like my Radeon 7200 could handle the game, too. I'm going to be getting a new video card sometime soon too so then I can max out the settings, bahaha.

Tony sent over their album a while ago. . .I really loved what I had the chance to listen to. It was on my iPod which I've since lost again and thus I haven't got the album any longer. It was for sale at Target once but I didn't nab it then and last time I checked they didn't have it, so I have yet to actually own the album.
