1.
Cripes. Think I was called elite dbz or something equally ridiculous way back in the days before the board got haxored or whatever it was, but red since then. Pretty amazing to see so many old faces posting in 'ere, wouldn't know where to start when it comes to trying to say hello again and whatnot! Any chance anyone knows what Deus and Sephiroth are up to these days? Either I'm a blithering idiot (fairly likely to be honest) or I didn't spot them while nostalgia tripping through the thread.
Oh my guffaw! You're still alive, ol' chap. You should send me a message on AIM sometime. ;) Seph has been hovering around in recent months - I'm sure I saw a post of his not long ago. I don't know exactly what he's doing, but I know he's still obsessed with Tekken. Haha. I'm very keen to know how is family is going.
  2.
[kuja]say hello to Hirsi Ali LOL :D[/kuja]
It would be my pleasure, kuji. ^_^
  3. Do you think it matters if we just go ahead and allow double-posting now? I don't think it matters much anymore. And I doubt many people would abuse it.

If kuja doesn't like it, that means we HAVE to do it.

    3. Gavin

      Gavin

      I agree with Shin.

Sure! It may also help keep some threads going!

  4. I managed to squeeze in the (exorbitantly expensive) tickets to go to the Global Atheist Convention next year. It kind of sucks that we have to buy the tickets so early. Several of my favourite writers will be at the event, so I'm hoping to get a book (or two) signed. The big problem with paying for it now is that I'm also (trying) to save up for a brief visit to Hong Kong in October. Hopefully I don't end up needing to beg on the street to pay for my food once I'm there.

    RPG Idea
I'm still totally playing with ideas... I came up with a sorta Silent Hill thing. After the recent riots here, I thought having the world slightly normal in the day and then CRAZY MUTANT DESTRUCTION AND EVIL at night would be cool. But I just don't know yet. I'm a bit weary about throwing us into a totally whacked world... I might just do a "I Am Legend" thing and have it quite normal in the day but decidedly evil and twisted at night time when the nasties come out to play.
I've been playing Left 4 Dead recently and it occurred to me that I've never really given a zombie apocalypse-style RPG a go. I like the idea, but I don't know how much I'd enjoy writing as "myself".
  6.
It's okay, I'd make a terrible moderator anyway. That's like an anarchist campaigning to be chief of police.
Are you kidding? I only hire anarchists. I'd mention kuja to you, but you may not remember who he was.
  7. I thought your view might turn around a bit, partly because I have heard similar critiques from friends who have seen the movie. I am not at all a Planet of the Apes fan, but I'm actually quite keen to see this movie.
  8.
And James never made me a mod after all the work I did there! Pffffffffffffffffffffffft. :(
Well, we can always change that. This would be the only problem:
Anyways, ciao for like another five months or somethin'. There be Tekillya in the corner.
9. Okay guys, thanks again for your entries. I've gone through all of the entries and chosen a winner - Elle Jay! She sent us her entry as a recording, which we will play during the next episode of the OB Podcast. Well done, Elle Jay. And thank you to everybody for entering.
  10. Wow, that's a beautiful post, Juu. :) You seem so grown-up now! It makes me feel old, haha.
  11. I might be going to Hong Kong in October! Fingers crossed. ^_^

  12.
Well, most forums don't like thread necromancy as a general rule. I forget exactly what the rule is here now, but you can revive some if you want, but if it's really old enough, you can go ahead and just make a new thread? James can confirm or shoot that down. :Va
Bingo. We have no specific rule about thread necromancy here, but my general advice would be that if the most recent topic on a given subject is really old (like, months or years old) then it's probably a good idea to make a new one. I just expect most people to practice common sense on that. If there's a specific question, I think the relevant moderator should always make the call. :)
  13. I had a go at The Stanley Parable yesterday, which is a Half-Life 2 mod. Has anyone else tried this? It's pretty interesting/weird. I'm curious to know what different paths people took.
  14. Just a reminder that the Thinking With Potals Competition still has a few more days to go. You're still welcome to submit entries if you haven't already!

  15. James

    Please don't scare me with Man-Faye. :-(

  16.
If Futer wins this competition, do I get the game?
If Futer wins, I think we'll be in big trouble.
  17. Hm, nobody seems to be "thinking with portals". Maybe we need to change the competition end date? Or maybe I overestimated the popularity of Portal 2?

I figured as much, yeah. But you can join anyway just for fun. :^D You can always gift it to someone who didn't win but joined anyway 8D

    3. James

      James

You're right, Sangome. That's a very good point. I had sort of hoped that this competition may attract people who haven't been able to buy the game yet, or who are perhaps a little new to the whole phenomenon. Perhaps next time we will change the game. :-)

Being the poor gentleman that I am.. I either "wait for it to be free" or "wait for nice friend to get it for me" so.. it's a wonderful contest to me. :D

  18.
So. With the international court of justice in The Hague being sweeped away after the second Impact, where is the new one? :V (New Hague?) The Alps? Switzerland? Strasbourg, France? Mecca, Saudi Arabia? Antartica? Greenland? THE MOON? Just wondrin'. Also, what has happened with the EU? Is Europe now a kind of United States of Europe or still the same as it used to be? Does the EU have more than just mainly economical and social value now? Stuff like that :V And NATO! :^D Seeing as WWIII whiped out quite a lot was NATO forced to dissolve or are they only more solid than ever? So many questions, such a little netbook keyboard to type them on!
Regarding The Hague, I think that's an entirely open question at this point. Remember that Second Impact took place in Antarctica. It therefore stands to reason that when the tsunami was created, it would have primarily affected the Southern Hemisphere (so most of Australia would be gone, as would much of Southeast Asia). It is very likely that coastal cities around the world would be affected, but they were likely more affected by the general problem of rising ocean levels due to the ice cap melting. So to answer your question more specifically - I don't know. That could be a question that someone else writes about. You could even create a whole scenario around it. I'm open to absolutely anything - including The Hague being completely underwater, or being partially destroyed, or whatever else. :) In terms of the ICJ...again, same thing. I would tend to suggest that the ICJ - whatever it is - would have a somewhat limited role in a future where survival became the top priority for the developed world. Also the shift in power to the eastern hemisphere, combined with the substantial power of NERV, would no doubt alter the global balance of power. Same situation goes for the EU and NATO. I can imagine the EU becoming like a "United States of Europe" - bear in mind that World War III has already passed and that war occurred due to the urgency of post-Second Impact survival. So it's totally feasible that the EU would form into a single nation state in order to fight a war. On all of those unanswered questions, I'm really happy for you (or anyone) to actually clarify them in your own way however you see fit. :) Edit: Just a quick update, guys. Obviously this RPG hasn't launched yet - for now, I want to put this on hold. You guys have already done a lot of great work on this idea, and so I want to avoid launching this in a half-hearted way where I don't have the ability to run it properly for you. I still intend to start this RPG at some stage, but not just yet. I want to make sure that when I do start it, I can give it my full attention. I'd rather do that, than start it prematurely and have it die quickly. I'm sorry about that - you guys have really put some great work in here and I'm very thankful for that. :)
  19. Created a dedicated Portal 2 competition topic. A few people want to enter, but don't want to record their voice. Now you can just enter via an OB post in the competition topic. :-)

I hope this helps - we don't want to penalise the people who are uncomfy making a recording!

  20. Fellow Otakuites, you've no doubt seen the sheer bombardment of advertising for this competition both here and at theOtaku.com over recent days. We originally required competition entrants to record a short audio clip of themselves answering this question: "What would you do with a Portal Gun?" After getting feedback from members, however, we've decided to open up the competition to text responses here on OtakuBoards as well. There seem to be people who would like to enter this competition, but who do not want to record their voice - I totally understand this, because I cringe whenever I hear my voice being played back to me! So, with that said, you can now enter the competition right here in this topic. The rules are essentially the same, but I will post them again for everyone's benefit:

To enter, just answer this one simple question: What would you do with a Portal Gun?
Your answer can be in the form of an audio recording of no more than 60 seconds in length. You can also post your answer here in this topic.
If you want to record your answer as audio, send it here: [email protected]. The winning recording will be played on the next episode of the OB Podcast!
Entries close on Tuesday, 9th of August 2011.
The winner will be announced when the next podcast airs - stay tuned for the announcement.
The prize is a copy of Portal 2 for your platform of choice (PS3, Xbox 360 & Steam).
Please feel free to post your responses here if you prefer. You can ask questions about the competition here, or in the OB Podcast topic.
  21. I've just updated the competition announcement, guys. Figured it was best to lay out all the details in one spot (especially if you don't listen to the podcast).

  22.
I'm never drinking coffee again.
Never? But coffee is so good! I'm with you though - I can't drink much coffee. I don't think I could really ever drink more than one cup each day, at most. I don't understand how people can drink several cups per day. o_O
  23. At first I didn't recognise you, until I saw your AIM name on here. It's good to see that you're still around. :P

  24.
Just got Bastion from XBLA. So far, loving almost everything about it. The art direction is unique and very vibrant, but it's a pretty formidable action RPG. I have to work on my blocking and dodging game because I barely survived after some long boss fights. The grizzly-voiced narrator adds a nice touch because he comments on everything The Kid does. You might think it gets annoying, but it helps out w/ my immersion into the game. I'd rather have someone narrating the story instead of me reading boxes upon boxes of text. I like to read, but I'm horrible at staying awake. Also, having to freely switch between two upgrades in the armory is sick. So far after 5+ levels, it's a game that everyone should try.
Sounds good. I read a review of this on Joystiq just recently, but it was a little bit nebulous - at the end of it I was a little unsure about whether or not to go ahead with the purchase. I haven't bought anything on XBLA for quite a while, so this one might be worth picking up.
  25. Hey Asher, welcome to OB. I've been enjoying your posts so far - hope you're having fun!
