Is it right?

The only problem I have is when you say that you "don't like Final Fantasy" because of that one issue. Not only is it an incredibly small and pretty meaningless issue...but it's only one tiny little part of the game. If you're playing games to hear someone sing in Japanese, then you might be playing games for the wrong reasons. ~_^ In all seriousness though, I do believe that Square-Enix could easily have included a Japanese language option. It would not have been hard. It's a shame that they didn't...but, such is life. It doesn't make the game itself any worse as a result.
2.
Originally posted by Kyo no Ryu Actually I named it Hel on purpose because they spell it like that in the manga Ragnarok. I never gave it a rating, I just noted the increadible violence.
Regardless, you still spelt "religion" and "incredible" incorrectly. I point these things out because if you want to make an adult RPG, it will be held to adult standards -- it needs to have a truly mature story and truly "adult" post quality. If it fails to meet that standard, it'll be closed.
3. Just a note: If you cannot spell "hell" or "serial", then it may not be appropriate for you to make an adult RPG. I hope that the Moderators and Category Moderator here will watch this RPG very closely. If the quality does not rise significantly, it should be closed.
4. Semjaza makes an important point. Let's stick to the subject. I'm not interested to hear why homosexuality is right or wrong -- and I'm particularly not inclined to listen to someone say that people are spending an eternity in hell. I find that offensive myself. And I find it arrogant to the extreme. None of us have the right to make such sweeping statements about a group of human beings -- regardless of whether we see them as "disgusting" or not. It's a very outmoded point of view, just as racism has become outmoded. Things are moving in the right direction, but it's a shame that such biggotry still exists. This thread has gone on so long that I don't really want to put my two cents in on the legal issue. I've spoken about it at length before...and I've explained why it's not at all a religious issue. Religion doesn't factor into the equation at all; it's a question of civil rights. As I've said, one's personal view should not be a basis for the denial of rights to others. In any case, I expect everyone to keep to the topic. If I see another objectionable post, I'll close the thread without hesitation.
5. Welcome to the boards, FennirIrvine. I strongly urge you to read our site's rules, which you'll find in the OtakuBoards Information Center. The rules basically explain the kind of post quality we expect at the site. In this case...your post doesn't contain enough detail. Tell us why you like anime -- what's so good about it? Explain your idea. Also, your thread is in the incorrect forum. Please be aware that all anime threads that don't relate to a forum that we currently have, must go to Anime Lounge.

7.
Originally posted by Boba Fett However, many argue that the death sentence is immoral. They say that if United States citizens aren?t allowed to commit murder, why should the government be allowed to? Why should the rest of society ?stoop to their level?? I find this argument disgusting
You find it "disgusting" that people would object to state-sanctioned murder? Okay. I say "murder" because murder is a pre-meditated killing, which capital punishment obviously is. It's a killing based on a decision by a court -- a group of jurors. Having said that, I'm not against the death penalty for moral reasons. I'm against the death penalty because, in mosts cases, it's simply not harsh enough. Let's take Timothy McVeigh, a man who killed many people in the Oklahoma City bombing. He died painlessly; he even apparently smirked at one of the victim's relatives as he died. Frankly, I'd rather that these criminals be put in solitary confinement for the rest of their life -- solitary confinement with the most basic living conditions. Of course, I'd probably be labeled as cruel for wanting that. But, I'd only subject the very worst criminals to such lifelong treatment. I believe that the very worst violent criminals should be treated in this way...despite the cost. It's a fate "worse than death". Death isn't the ultimate price. Not by a long shot. So that's my view. My other objection simply relates to the utter hypocracy of capital punishment. The state has laws about murder, yet a court is allowed to sanction that very act? It makes no logical sense. I don't care whether you object morally or for any other reason -- but generally speaking, the state shouldn't be doing things that it legislates against. It would be like punishing a criminal by sanctioning a public rape of them or something. It's stupid and utterly pointless...and hypocritical to a laughable degree. So I guess those are my two objections. The first one is my main one...while the second is more a basic practical observation. Australia (like most modern democracies) did away with capital punishment decades ago. However, I don't think that we are harsh enough with our most violent criminals. A mass-murderer shouldn't be able to use the Internet or watch TV...they should be in solitary confinement, with minimal excercise and minimal dietary requirements. And that's it, for the rest of their life. I'd certainly want that punishment for people like Osama bin Laden or Saddam Hussein. Death is too easy...and too painless for such people. It's almost the desirable way out, when compared to other possible consequences.
8. I've never had any major cooking mishaps myself...I've always been pretty good at cooking, though I've never actually learned how to cook a huge variety of foods. I can get by, I guess. In any case...the microwave practically exploded in the kitchen at my school a couple of months ago. Someone had left something in there for way too long and the entire thing was emitting clouds of black smoke from its rear. So it got very nasty. The fire brigade was called, but luckily there wasn't too much damage (other than on the microwave itself). Of course, the entire kitchen smelt of burnt rubber for about two weeks afterwards. It wasn't fun.
9. Well...I like Rage Against the Machine, at least in terms of their sound. I've liked them for a while, though I've never been a huge fan in particular. I completely disagree with their political lyrics...like most celebrities, their opinions don't hold a huge amount of factual weight. So I put them in the same basket as any other Hollywood actor who might try to tell me about world affairs. But, I don't really care about that. When I listen to their music, I really don't care about the political message. If the music sounds good and if I enjoy it...fine. *shrug* I wouldn't be a very well informed human being if I relied on them for my political messages anyway.
10.
Originally posted by Dan L Firstly, I don't see how living longer makes you the source of humanity... ??.. or maybe that was a seperate point altogether.. it was just kind of said in the same block :p Secondly, it's kind of a chicken-egg question: Which came first, the woman who gave birth or the man who gave her the baby? :p
What I meant is that, biologically, men are made from women. All human beings begin as females. A fetus requires the implantation of the Y chromosome at a certain developmental stage to make it a male. So a male is technically a "biproduct" of a female. That's what I meant. The idea of Adam & Eve is very quaint, to put it mildly. I would sit here and run through the millions of reasons why even the most basic scientific fact contradicts that tale...but I won't. Not only because this isn't specifically a religious discussion, but also because we're talking about whether man and woman are equal...or, which is "better" and what their traits are. So, let's keep it to that. I'll extend that basic courtesy to everyone else if it is afforded to me.
11. Hm...I'll have a try. I gather that there's a slightly lighthearted feel to this story, considering the place/character names and stuff. I'll give it a shot. ^_^ Name: Keizo Zuka Age: 13 Class: Hero Description: Biography: Small boys are always getting into trouble. And as far as small boys go, Keizo Zuka is certainly quite experienced with mischief. Keizo's parents discovered his natural inclination toward trouble making when he was at the tender age of five. At this age, he attended a small kindergarten on the outskirts of Grillin Village. Within five days of his attendance, a swift, sharp knocking could be heard from the front door of his home. His mother opened the door, only to find a frazzled-looking kindergarten supervisor, holding an energetic (and completely oblivious) little Keizo by his collar. As the supervisor spoke in a heated tone and with wild arm movements, little Keizo occupied himself by fighting with a nearby blueberry bush. The blueberry bush won. Most parents would be horrified and disturbed at such aggressive behavior. But not Mr. and Mrs. Zuka. Rather than scold little Keizo, both parents decided to enrol him in a nearby Ninjitsu school. They hoped that such an activity would allow him to better focus his aggressive tendencies. As Keizo grew older, he gained control over his somewhat unpredictable behavior. But he also desired to move further afield; to explore and to challenge himself in new ways. As a result, little Keizo would sometimes sneak out of the village at night, toward the forest, where he'd practice his skills against various monsters (who had become increasingly prevalent in the forest during Keizo's childhood). When Keizo began to learn more about the history of his little town (particularly the invasion by the Thirstquencher Army), he became even more determined to develop and focus his skills and Bincholon-based abilities. He wanted to do something to free his town and country. Of course, little boys are not able to undertake such monumental tasks on their own. Starting Point: Grillin Village Primary Spell/Weapon: Ninja Sword Secondary Weapon/Item: Smoke Bomb. Items: I haven't decided about this. I may have to edit. 12. Chapter 3: Porn Superstar Summary: In this chapter, Arianna Love's previous career is revealed in greater detail. We find out about her "life of porn" and how she escaped the clutches of a jealous and violent boyfriend. We also learn about her first trip to Japan. Characters: Arianna Love Setting: California --> Japan This chapter pretty much deals exclusively with Arianna. Tori, all you really need to do is look at your sign up sheet and then create a specific short story, which goes into more depth on this critical part of Arianna's history. I anticipate that this entire chapter will only require one post, however, the length and breadth of that post is entirely up to you; you can decide how to shape things and you can go into any level of depth that you like. ^_^ Oh and, HC and sweetreyes...don't worry. You guys haven't had much of a shot yet, but your characters are coming up soon. In particular, I'm eager to introduce Jeanette, as she's such a nasty Angel. ~_^ EDIT: Oh and Josh...you were actually worried about your post? Bah. It was fantastic, as I expected. Same goes to Tony and Shinmaru. Fantastic job, guys.
13. The idea that Eve came from Adam is a bit silly though, considering that (biologically speaking), men come from women. The female gender is actually the absolute source of human life. Women even have longer life expectancy and so on. So...women are much more the source of humanity than men. In any case, we live in a modern society. Although men and women do have certain in-built biological traits that seperate them, we live in an age where men and women are expected to have similar responsibilities in life. Of course, there will always be differences. The very fact that men and women are biologically different will always play a role, regardless of the law and regardless of the perception of men and women. Still, I don't think any of that matters. I don't treat someone differently because they're male or female...my treatment of them is based on the way they treat me. In the same way, if you look at the boards here...quite often, there are cases where you don't know whether someone is male or female. So really, you have no choice but to base your opinion of them on their post quality. In some ways I think that makes a community like this even less likely to rush to judgement, because you can't physically see the person who is posting. So you can only base your view on what that person says in their posts. And in my experience, no one gender is worse than the other when it comes to spamming. Both men and women can be equally guilty of l33t and other ignorant Internet practices. ~_^
14. Okay, thanks guys. This is what I was looking for. It's nothing big or official, just a little sample of opinion. Great stuff. ^_^
15. Some of you will have seen similar threads before and others won't have. This thread is basically a small survey, designed to gain a little general feedback from the community. We never perform very extensive research when it comes to feedback, simply because we are satisfied with the level of response that we see in the Suggestions & Feedback forum. However, sometimes there are some specific questions that I'd like to ask, with new versions and updates in mind. Bear in mind that this isn't some big official survey. But, basically, I post threads like this every few months, just to see where things are at in general. Of course, I ask anyone who responds to be honest with their responses and to think carefully about the questions asked. Anyone may respond; both members and existing staff. Of course, I hope that most members will respond, whether you're new here or whether you've been here since the beginning. Thanks for taking a few minutes to respond. ^_^
SECTION A In the following section, please answer each statement with one of five answers: A) Strongly Agree B) Agree C) Somewhat Agree D) Disagree E) Strongly Disagree 1) I find OtakuBoards rules easy to understand and follow. 2) I feel that the staff at OtakuBoards understand their job and are capable of performing it appropriately. 3) OtakuBoards is easy to navigate. 4) OtakuBoards has a friendly atmosphere. 16. It's a nice image, except for the fact that the changes between frames are a little jarring. But that wouldn't be hard to fix. You could probably develop a version of it that would fit within our size restrictions, too. Good job.
17. Proteus and Iota watched as Massacre charged at Warlock fiercly. Warlock was now standing in front of the garage door, which featured a hole in its center, with the metallic edges peeled inward as a result. Warlock stood there, gripping his blades tightly, waiting for his enemy. Massacre, for his part, was visibly damaged. His shoulder was crackling with short bursts of electricity, as several thick cords had been reptured and were sparking upon impact with the water. Despite the fact that coolant fluid was splashing across his feet as he walked, he did not seem to notice. Steam continued to rise from the exhaust vents on his back and his eyes were as cold as ever. Suddenly, Massacre jumped. Despite his obvious size and weight, he moved with remarkable fluidity. He swiped at Warlock with one thick arm. Warlock leapt sideways and avoided contact, but Massacre's other arm then lashed out violenty from the other side, hitting Warlock in the back as he jumped. A blade dropped from Warlock's hand as he was thrown into a cluster of garbage cans near the sidewalk. Massacre reared up, preparing to dive at Warlock again. But just as Warlock began to climb out of the garbage, Iota and Proteus were already perched upon Massacre's heavy shoulders. They'd jumped from the roof, in a last-ditch effort to stop the monstrosity. "Arggh!" roared Massacre, as he clumsily through his large hands around his head, attempting to knock the two reploids off. The sound of heavy thunder and rain nearly drowned out Proteus' voice, but Iota and Warlock could still hear his words; "Stop him now!" The three reploids knew that they'd have to work together to bring Massacre down. It was that, or be killed one by one. Even the two newer model reploids couldn't stand up to Massacre; the risk of Warlock being severely injured or killed was only heightened by this fact. But these reploids were not foolish. Massacre's weakness was both in his clumsiness as well as his foolishness. He was a machine that had been designed for power and power alone, while Proteus, Iota and Warlock were intelligent units, capable of working in a team. Proteus formed his adaptive buster into a long, sharp instrument. As he did this, Iota clamped her feet tightly to Massacre's shoulders and began firing her buster at his head; the barrel was only a couple of dozen centimetres away at the very most. This ensured that Massacre focused most of his energy on Iota -- the frequent blasts of plasma were so close and forceful that they were beginning to sear through the sides of his face, not to mention the fact that he couldn't physically see, as a result of the blinding light. Proteus took the opportunity to slide down Massacre's back, closer to his energy deck. The energy deck was kept cool by liquid coolant and Proteus could see exactly where the coolant chamber lay; he used his iris scanners to see just under the surface of Massacre's hastily-built steel skin. Within seconds, Proteus' enormous blade had been driven deep into Massacre's back. It had been driven deep enough to pierce through the side of the coolant tank. Massacre roared again and turned so that his back faced the garage door. He hastily pushed his back up against it, in an attempt to crush Proteus. Proteus could hear the metal door grinding against his own titanium skin, emitting a loud and high-pitched screech. But he held his blade there. He was right in doing so, too. Proteus only had to wait seconds before Warlock retrieved his lost blade and immediately pushed both deep into Massacre's chest. Massacre now swung wildly at Warlock, apparently forgetting Proteus and Iota. He still couldn't see, though; he was blinded, he was leaking coolant fluid and his internal generator was heating to dangerous levels, as a result. But Massacre didn't care. He had become overwhelmed and desperate. As he swung at Warlock again, Warlock effortlessly drove his blades right through Massacre's left wrist. Massacre's left hand (and several components from his arm) were torn away and a singed, metallic stump remained. Proteus peered into his HUD, which lay itself over his open eyes. While his blade was still planted deeply inside Massacre's coolant tank, Proteus diverted 25% of his internal power directly to his limb. A sudden burst of electricity ignited the leftover coolant inside the tank, causing a small-but-forceful explosion on his back. Both Proteus and Iota were thrown forward, knocking over Warlock on their way. The three reploids tumbled backwards into the side of a parked car on the opposite side of the street, heavily denting its doors and smashing its windows in the process. They looked up at Massacre, who was now stumbling aimlessly forward, clutching his face with his only hand, as flames ran up across his back and shoulders. "Get under the car!" yelled Warlock. Without question, the other two reploids obeyed. The trio crawled under the car, making sure to move as far away from Massacre as possible. Had they waited any longer, the ear-splitting explosion would have severely damaged them -- if they'd been lucky. Massacre's generator had exploded. The heat, combined with the fire in the coolant tank had been too much. It had overwhelemed and consumed him. Proteus, Iota and Warlocked crawled out from under what was now little more than rubble. They looked over the remains of the battle. Several windows had been shattered, two cars were completely burnt out, the door to Warlock's garage -- despite being made of heavy steel -- was peeled open like the skin of an orange and there, in the center of the street, lay Massacre. And ugly site, to be sure, Massacre was laying face-down in a pool of water. His back had been split apart down the center and most of his internal skeletal structure had burst outward, through his skin. Pieces of metal ribcage reached out into the air, like some kind of giant claw. Broken gears, sheets of charred metal and other debris were strewn about the street nearby. Massacre was dead. The three reploids looked at one another. The battle with Massacre had been a sobering experience. Here they were, standing on the street, in the middle of a thunderstorm. Iota's face was no longer pretty and innocent and porcelain doll-like. Her expression was hardened. Her chin had been charred by extreme heat and strips of thin titanium wafer had been torn away from her neck. She was gripping her weapon so tight that it had literally cracked under the pressure. Proteus also looked different. Large, deep streaks were present all across his shoulder blades and lower back. His skin had literally been burnt and torn in places. The electronic pulses of blue that typically ran through his hair were no longer present; his hair sat there, completely black and lifeless, framing his serious expression. And then there was Warlock. His visor was cracked, his trenchcoat torn. His right leg had also been damaged in the battle and the joint on his right knee had been pushed completely out of place. Several wires hung lifelessly from it. Warlock carefully removed his visor and looked at the others. He managed a soft smile. "Want to come inside?" he asked, gesturing toward the broken garage door. Proteus returned the smile. "Yes, thank you. We have a lot of things to discuss..." "...and a lot of plans to prepare," said Iota, as she finished his sentence for him. She didn't smile. She simply began walking toward the garage, making sure to kick Massacre's lifeless body as she passed it.
18. Interesting news here. Source: http://cube.ign.com/articles/442/442633p1.html
Occupying third place in console sales, Nintendo's September 25 price cut to $99 seemed like an act of desperation. Even though GameCubes were flying off shelves in record numbers during the first week of the price drop, many speculated that this was simply a quick surge in reaction to the price drop and sales would soon return to normal numbers. However, Nintendo has surprised many with its steady GameCube sales that have shown no signs of tapering off -- even after two months.

Today, Nintendo announced that its console had surpassed the sales of the Playstation 2, which makes the GameCube the top selling console for Thanksgiving week. According to internal sales data (not NPD), Nintendo's console sold more than half a million units during the week of November 24 (which is almost as much as its Game Boy Advance that tallied 600,000 units over the same time period).
Very interesting stuff. I think people underestimate Nintendo sometimes. Most people in the Nintendo-centric gaming media (at least, well-informed people) were leaning toward the idea that GameCube would be at its most competitive in the fourth quarter of this year, and throughout 2004. We are also now starting to see the results of Satoru Iwata's plans for GameCube, at least as far as third party exclusive support goes. I think 2004 will be a big year for GameCube. I also think that GameCube's success in the latter half of its life will put Nintendo in a strong position to bolt out of the gates for the next generation -- with both strong hardware and software support. My feeling is that in the next generation -- provided GameCube hits the target -- Nintendo will be in a position to leapfrog PS3 to the number one position, in terms of market share. It wouldn't surprise me.
19.
Originally posted by Baron Samedi I was referring to emotional maturity levels there James. Sex is primitive, you don't need to be emotionally competent to have it. Thats what I was talking about there. Heh.
I know what you're talking about. I'm just asking you what that has to do with the topic. lol
20.
Originally posted by Epid3mic I assumed anyone who was truly in love, would get married and/or make sure they were capable of raising a child before the sexual act.
But again, this assumes that sex is only used for conception. And that isn't the case, as you know. So it's an invalid point, in my view. As for sex being primitive or not...of course the fundamental biological drive of sex is "primitive". So? I don't know what that has to do with abortion.
Originally posted by Kent: First off, I really hate avoiding the true subject at hand by calling this a choice and not a specific action. (which is killing an embryo)
I know what you're saying, but I think that's a low-blow. And it's emotive. By that standard, I should go around saying that anti-abortionists are also anti-choice. And obviously, that's not true. They're not against choice in general; only when it comes to this issue. In the same way, pro-choice people aren't "anti-life" in general. So yeah. It's important to be careful about the terms that are thrown around, I think.
21. James

Is it right?

It depends. I don't know if Yuna's lip-synching has been changed for her English lyrics or not, for example. If they have changed it, then no...there is no chance that they'll change it for various other languages. It's also unlikely that they'll dub in other languages; they will most likely just provide subtitles in languages other than English. But I honestly don't know. Different developers go to different lengths when it comes to things like that.
22. Yeah...I think the point is still appropriate, in the sense that sex without responsibility and maturity can lead to things like unwanted pregnancy. But people who are having protected sex and who are mature obviously shouldn't be told not to have sex, on the chance that pregnancy might occur. Again, it comes down to the individual's point of view. That's why I feel that Epid3mic's comments are very narrow and black and white. Sex isn't just about pregnancy, and that's the whole point.
23. I don't understand what you're saying about sex, Baron. It looks like you're saying that sex isn't "emotionally mature", or that it doesn't have to be...but you seem to be putting sex and pregnancy hand-in-hand. And pregnancy is obviously something that requires maturity, at least as far as caring for a baby appropriately. So, sex doesn't require maturity...but being mature will hopefully ensure that pregnancy doesn't occur. Sex is definitely more than pregnancy and instinct.
24. I think that there is a difference between a fetus and a two year old. A fetus is literally a "growth" in the mother's body. I don't know when a fetus develops consciousness/self-awareness, but I'd say that an actual fetus doesn't develop that. In any case, my opinion on abortion is mixed. On the one hand, I do not personally believe that abortion should be a solution when someone just makes a mistake (ie: lack of birth control). In cases where the fetus might become severely injured as a result of pregnancy (or if the fetus has a particular disease -- something that would cause it to either die as a child, or to live a life of suffering), then yes, I can see why abortion would be an option there. However...and I think I've said this before...my personal feelings on abortion are just that. They're my own feelings. I'm not a woman. And I don't have the right to tell a woman what to do with her body. If she chooses to have an abortion, because of her own circumstances, that's her choice. And it should be her choice, too. If she chooses not to, that's fine also. Again, it's her body. It's her choice. If I had something growing inside me -- whether it's a "potential human" or something else, I don't want someone coming up to me and telling me that I can't do anything about it. That just seems wrong to me. I say the same thing about the issue of gay marriage as well. That is...if it doesn't personally affect you, you can have your opinion, but you don't have the right to impede the rights of others. We don't all agree with abortion. And those who do agree with it aren't just "agreeing" with the whole concept necessarily -- there are many shades of grey and "what if" scenarios there. I think that Tony put it best. For me at least, it's not even so much a question of whether it's right or wrong -- every individual will decide that for themselves. The big problem I have is either pro or anti abortionists getting out there and trying to tell everyone else what to do. I don't like it with religion or civil rights issues and I don't like it with this type of thing either, regardless of where you stand on the issue.
