1. I'm sorry, Tony...I didn't even think to use spoiler tags for that. Nintendo released screenshots that had Toad in them, so I assumed that everybody who followed the game was well aware of it.
  2. Apparently Toad is a secret character. One of our European Correspondents (at N-Sider) recently played Mario Kart for five hours at NoE's headquarters. He's going to write up impressions, but he sent us an email about it. And, like EGM...he really loved it. Apparently the game is a lot better than the N64 version (thankfully), with tighter controls, well-balanced items and amazing tracks. I'm really looking forward to it. It looks like Mario Kart will be one of the biggest GameCube titles yet.

n-Space is really going to be an interesting developer to watch. The stuff they've done before -- as Tony pointed out -- was primarily a case of "doing the work you can get to put food on the table". In reality, Geist is n-Space's own idea that they have wanted to develop for a while. Nintendo saw the idea and liked it, and now Nintendo in Japan is working with n-Space to develop the game. I didn't play the game myself, but colleagues of mine who played at E3 had a tendency to say that Geist was one of the most underrated games at the show. It's quite an impressive little game, at least in its current stages. I look forward to seeing more on this title, particularly a more refined playable version.

  5. Why on earth does this thread need to deviate from its original course? I believe that Dan had a specific subject that he wanted to discuss; he didn't want discussions of whether or not Christianity is right or wrong. In this case, my feelings absolutely fall on Dan's side. If I see any further off topic posts, I will delete them. But I will not close the thread. Let's keep to Dan's original topic, please.
  6.
Originally posted by Dagger IX1 Acting as though same-sex pairings are pornographic by their very nature will only reinforce the negative stereotypes that surround them, even as society continues to grow more open and tolerant.
I just thought that this was an extremely important point. It's why I get annoyed when people on myOtaku say "put up a warning if you're going to show guys kissing" or some such thing. How ridiculous. There's no difference between a guy kissing a girl, to a guy kissing another guy. How is it any more pornographic? It's not. If you're disgusted by it, that's not my problem (the same as it's not my problem if you're disgusted by other races or nationalities). Honestly, I think this is a very important point that people often miss. It is also a reason why Adam and I made a firm decision about yaoi-esque materials on OtakuBoards and myOtaku.com.
  7. Real Name: Jamie Kidd Callsign: Desert Taipan Age: 30 Gender: Male Alliance: Leader of the Southern Vipers Biography: Born on a Gippsland farm, Jamie learned the meaning of hard work at a very young age. Being an only child has its advantages for some; not for Jamie. He was not permitted to go to school and his parents (particularly his father) worked him very hard. Both parents were highly religious and often applied a heavy leather strap to Jamie when they felt that he hadn't earned his day's keep. Even the most faithful can also be the most dangerous, as Jamie discovered during his early teens. His uncle and aunt used to visit from northern Queensland each summer. Unfortunately, Jamie's uncle took quite an interest in him and during many quiet summer afternoons, Jamie was forced to watch the barn floor as his uncle enjoyed his company. As you might expect (and as his uncle evidently didn't), the carefully coordinated violations ended abruptly when Jamie turned 15. He ended his uncle's perversion permanently, with a well-timed strike from a corroded rake. It was at this point that Jamie decided to leave home for greener pastures, so to speak. He managed to escape his parents' clutches and move further north; to New South Wales. Jamie took up residence at a town in the south, where he earned money working at a local bar. It was dirty work, but far easier than the work he'd done at his parents' farm -- and more profitable, too. Through his work at the bar, Jamie became involved with a local biker gan*. ** **** ***** ** ***** * *****. *** ****** * ******* ****** ***** ******, ****. **, **** ** ****** ****** *****. **** **** ******* ****** ** * ***** *** **'s *****. *****, "****** ****!!" .... *****, ****. ** ***** ******** *** **. **** ****** ***, *****, *****, ****, ******. **** *** ** * ******* **** ***** **** *** ***? ****** *** ***** **** **** **** *****. ***** **** ****, *****. Having been involved with the Yakuza for more than a year, Jamie had seemingly lost nearly all emotion. He was a cold blooded killer, who had seen the hard life and who never let anyone take advantage of him. But it was a small boy -- a male prostitute in Osaka -- who reminded Jamie of his turbulent childhood. He masqueraded as an interested client, when actually, he was simply attempting to find out who the boy's pimp was. Upon doing so, he violently murdered the man -- a surprisingly mature, snowy-headed old man -- and as a result, was arrested by Osaka police. Jamie spent the next few years in prison, where he came across Joshua -- his cellmate. Originally, he had become so bored and was so angry at the way he had been taken advatange of, that he intended to rape Joshua. However, this was not to be. Joshua was stronger than he first appeared and the two somehow managed to share many similar traits in their lives. And so, for the first time ever, Jamie fell in love. This also caused him to be fiercly defensive of Joshua -- to the point of breaking the arms of anyone who dared approach Joshua with any intentions of a sexual nature. As a result of his, his sentence was extended for a further two years. Joshua's sentence finished two years sooner than Jamie's. He got out and made a life for himself (as one of Adam's hired hitsquad). When Jamie was finally released, Joshua (and a new career) was waiting for him. Joshua had found the little boy that Jamie had once tried to protect. He had done so both as an act of pity on the boy, and as an act of love for Jamie. The pair adopted the boy as their own and taught him skills that he could use, so that he would never be at the mercy of a pedophile again. Even my profile isn't really bizarre enough...and if you haven't seen Kill Bill, go see it! I can't stress this enough. If you don't see it, you just won't understand what we're doing here (and you have much less chance of getting in).
  8. I don't know why marriage should even be a defining or deciding factor. To me, it seems like something very arbitrary. I mean, you could marry once and then marry twice more...and thus be having sex with more than one person in your life. I don't think the argument should be about sex before or after marriage; it should be about careless sex. I'm not married, yet I'm sexually active with my partner -- the same partner that I've had for four years now. So I'm not promiscuous...and I'm very aware and up-to-date on medical issues. So, obviously, I'm very careful as well. But I'm in a monogamous relationship. So, I'm aware of what's involved. But again...I guess that for me, the same message is always clear. What I choose to do in my own sex life is nobody else's business -- if somebody else wants to either wait for marriage or avoid sex altogether, that's completely fine by me. It's their choice. In the same way, I'm not going to attack people who are sexually promiscuous. What right do I have to determine how they should live their life? People should be aware of the risks. I don't need to lecture them on that kind of thing. People are going to make mistakes regardless of my input.

We know from our own experience that if we create rules and tell people not to violate them -- most will try not to. Why make the problem worse? You aren't the one hosting OtakuBoards on your server, so I guess it doesn't matter whether you encourage people to upload erroneous stuff or not. This is really disappointing. I'm going to have to have a serious think about this.
  10. Of course movie hopping is wrong. It's the act of consuming something that you haven't paid for. You can try to justify it by talking about how much popcorn costs or something else...but at the end of the day, you're stealing. And stealing is wrong. There's your answer.
  11. I forget the exact numbers, but from what I remember, it was less than 2,000 civilians who died during Gulf War II. It sounds like a lot, but it's a pretty small number in the context of war. I say this because Amnesty International estimates that upwards of 30,000 Iraqi citizens were arrested or killed by Saddam's regime each year. Out of those who were imprisoned, a large percentage were later killed. Less suffering before the war? I don't think so.
  12. Try changing the image format (from JPG to GIF and vice versa). If this does not work, try changing the file name (and the corresponding link to it). That should fix your problem, as I had the same issues with my banner once...and I just changed the file name and it showed up.
  13. I really hope that things improve soon. I sympathize with you guys...especially considering the record-breaking fires that we had in Sydney and Canberra last year. Very dangerous and very scary. I hope that both of you stay safe (and I hope that everyone in the affected areas is able to reach safety).
  14.
Originally posted by Queen Asuka So you're saying it's okay, as long as you get what you want? That's almost like saying "Well, me buying these drugs is making someone rich, and I'm getting what I want, so it should be okay." That is the most selfish thing I have ever heard. And I think that getting a sex change is very selfish. Okay, so I'm sure that someone will throttle me for this opinion, but really, if you weren't so focused on yourself all the time, maybe you wouldn't have the problem of feeling traumatized because supposedly you are "trapped" in the wrong gender's body.
I think that your first point is not really valid here, Tori. You can't compare drugs to sex changes in any way, shape or form. If you buy drugs, you are not only hurting yourself, but you're keeping the drug supplier in business. There are so many other aspects involved with that. A sex change is likely something that won't actually kill you or proliferate some kind of suffering to others. I see sex changes as a personal decision -- no different to plastic surgery. You might even say that a sex change is simply a very complex plastic surgery. If I'm going to attack people for changing their gender, I'm also going to have to start attacking people for getting facelifts or liposuction. I mean, what someone else does to their body doesn't affect me...if they feel more comfortable as the opposite gender, so be it. It's selfish of me to want everyone to do what I feel comfortable with. A sex change might be selfish...but again, it's easy to say these things when you're not faced with a difficult psychological issue -- one that can't be solved or treated. This is already established. For some people, sex changes seem to work (as far as solving their identity issues) and for others, they don't. Either way, it's none of my business...it's really nobody's business but the person involved.
  15.
Originally posted by wrist cutter And so a sex change is the answer?
Did I say that a sex change is the answer?
I honestly think these people should try to get some kind of mental therapy as opposed to just changing their sex.
That's fine...and that's your opinion. I don't have an opinion, really, because I am not in that position. I don't know how traumatic it is to "feel" like a woman but have a man's body. I can only imagine that it must feel awful. I'm not using that statement to say that anything is right or wrong...because I am not in that situation and I don't know enough about it. However, I'm not going to tell a transgendered person that they're wrong or whatever -- it's their choice. I don't have any right to interfere with that.
After all, what differentiates the genders? At the most basic level, just our reproductive organs. But other than that, scientific research has shown that men and women think differently (surprise surprise) when it comes to many things. We just watched a video on this in psychology.
Of course. You have in a sense answered your own question. The idea is that someone has a "woman's brain" (or personality or whatever...even though I know that everyone has an individual personality). So, yes. Sexuality does come down to more than your body -- a lot more. But I guess if you feel that your body is wrong...or you are unhappy with it...it's your choice whether you change it or not.
And yet while watching it, I noticed there were some areas that I think I fall more into the "female" side... does that mean I was born into the wrong body? Of course not. There's no "100% female" or "100% male" out there. It's not like men and women have preset minds. I was born male, that's clearly how God/nature (whichever you prefer) intended it.
Exactly. You were born a male. But again...I don't see the point of all this. My answer is simply "so what?" This doesn't mean that transgendered people don't have legitimate concerns and shouldn't necessarily change their sex. It's up to them.
If someone truly believes they were born in the "wrong" body, then I think there's psychological issues here. Changing your genitalia doesn't change who you are. Rather than getting some operation, they should find out why they've been led to believe they have the wrong body in the first place. And I bet, upon really figuring things out, they will realize what's going on with them.
Again, that's your opinion. I'm not saying that you are wrong. Obviously, if someone feels very strongly that their gender is wrong, there is something deeper going on there. But at the moment, and as far as I know, there isn't a particular way to define this problem. What I mean is...there is no way to actually solve the psychological issues surrounding this. I'm sure that if there were, transgendered people would jump at the chance. Afterall, you must feel damn uncomfortable to want to actually change your gender. Think of how strong those feelings must actually be. As I said, I'm not advocating anything. I'm only saying that, as with many things, I don't have the right to tell someone that what they're doing to their own body is wrong or right. It's up to them and as long as it doesn't harm anyone else, I don't feel that it's my place to interrupt them or degrade them.
  16.
Originally posted by AutoKill Males are thee aggressors in sexual encounters although. So i guess there is at some level to witch homosexual males may be more of the predators then heterosexual females. I do understand that in all actuality to label a group of people as something different is silly. But if it helps comfort people with homosexuality then I find it welcoming. I would hope to see less prejudice about these types of things.
I don't agree with your first point in relation to this issue though. When a straight guy thinks that any gay guy he meets is going to flirt with him or something, he's making two assumptions: 1) That he is somehow incredibly attractive and/or; 2) That gay men flirt and are more sexually driven than straight men. The only point I'm making is that sexual predators and homosexuals are not one in the same. So, I'm just defending a principle with that. I think Mitch's last post really hit the nail on the head -- and it's why this Metrosexuality thing is really inane and trivial.
  17.
Originally posted by Chaos It's only the North American server of AOL that has this problem, it seems. The only conclusion I can come to is that a partial IP was banned to keep someone on dial-up from coming back and it matches halfway to some AOL people. Mine included.
I'm certain this isn't the case for two reasons. 1) If your partial IP had been banned, you wouldn't be here to post that message. 2) People who have had this "banned message" have given me their IPs so that I can cross check them with our IP ban list. And none of them match -- even partially listed IPs do not match any of those given to me by people who are having this problem. So, from that I can only conclude that it's not a question of us actually banning anyone's IP, even non-directly. It's something else.
  18. I think it would be incredibly horrible and scary to "have the mind of a woman" inside a man's body. So for people who do feel that way...I can only say that I can't imagine how uncomfortable and traumatic it must be. While I personally couldn't understand how it feels, I can probably imagine how terrible I'd feel if things were like that for me. So, yeah...this is why I think transgendered people probably have it tougher than anyone else in society. Anyway, more to the point...I've never felt negative about being male. I love being male. I love everything about it, in terms of what it means to my life. I don't know what else I can say about that really...but...I have never felt any passing desire to be a woman or to experience things as a woman. *shrug* But that's just me.
  19.
Originally posted by Mitch James, I see you accidently must have deleted my older post and edited it and added what is in your textual color lol. Ah well. We seem to see mostly eye-to-eye in my case. Yes, most , and I, would feel strange around someone whom is gay. I would think, "Is he checking me out?" and other such thoughts. But I would not be disgusted, and I would not think any less of them. It's only following one's nature. That is what sexuality is in its most viceral form. And I do not see anything wrong with that, whether one be homosexual or heterosexual.
Yep, sorry about that. I edited it again just as you wrote this. lol Anyway, yeah...we basically agree. As far as your thoughts...well, when you are around women do you always think "Is she checking me out?" There is this feeling that gay men are sexual predators or are always interested in sex. *shrug* It's just another false stereotype.
  20.
I also don't think it's right, Josh, for you to just state that all heterosexuals misunderstand homosexuals. Of course not. I suppose you meant some, but you didn't add any buffering word in between that statement, so it's taken as such.
I took the statement mostly as a generalization. I think it's an accurate one; most heterosexual men do fear and misunderstand gays, at least on a very basic level. Even many men who say "Yeah I'm comfortable with homosexuals" will feel queasy or weird when he's around one. And that is still, fundamentally, the result of an in-built prejudice that needs to be overcome. In any case...I don't even see how this "Metrosexual" thing has any real meaning whatsoever. In my opinion, it's an insult to homosexual people. It assumes that all gay people act feminine, when the vast majority don't. The truth is that you probably come across dozens and dozens of gay people in your life and never know it simply because they don't tell you. That's just how it is. This Metrosexual terms is only another stereotype. It stereotypes homosexuals and it also stereotypes heterosexuals, by assuming that all straight men are butch, uncaring, single-minded morons. There are plenty of straight men who care about their appreance and are sensitive, as much or moreso than most gay men. lol The whole thing is utterly stupid.
  21. Favourite scents? Hm...I don't really have any favourites in particular. Some perfumes and aftershaves are really nice though; except when people apply them so strongly that they nearly choke everybody. lol I wear cologne and deoderant called "Joop!" They come in dark purple/red bottles. It's a really nice scent...probably the favourite of all the ones I've ever had. I also have a bodywash of the same scent. But I guess there are lots of scents I like, whether it's the smell of freshly baked bread, or crisp/fresh air that you often get at the beach, or the smell of melted chocolate. It's all good. ~_^
  22. To be more accurate, theOtaku.com (our parent site) had a chatroom for a long time. Several years, in fact. But we ultimately decided to close it down because it was too difficult to moderate and it was being abused. We decided to keep all discussion on OtakuBoards, for various reasons. The main one is so that we can moderate discussion...but also because OtakuBoards is the hub for so many things in our community -- whether it is a special event, or an RPG, or non-anime discussions. And now with myOtaku as a further extension of that, we really feel comfortable with what we have. But I appreciate your suggestion.
  23. My biggest problem is the inaccuracy with a lot of this. A lot of people are saying "Oh they're only there for oil". That annoys me because it's blatantly false. If you actually look at what's going on in Iraq now, you can see that. More importantly, the US wouldn't have needed to invade Iraq if they "only wanted oil". There were much easier and more painless ways of getting it out of Iraq. lol In any case...I'm just getting tired of the whole thing. A lot of people are complaining and making it a political thing. Who cares? If you're that concerned, go and send an aid package to some Iraqi children or something. Do something constructive with your time.

There's a big difference between an adult man and a small boy, isn't there?" "Guess so..." "Yeah, you guess. Idiot." "Okay, so tell me then...what happened? How did this all start? You worked so hard to keep that boy safe and then he went and disappeared on you or something? We worked for him a while back, you see. We were pretty popular too; the flavor of the month I guess you could say. He wanted to cut us out of the action back there though." "I guess you didn't take that too well, by the sound of it..." |Laughter| "Hah, fuck no. Of course not. We weren't going to be cut out of anything. We'd worked hard to reach that level...we weren't going to somehow give that up. Not for anyone. So, we made a choice--" "What choice?" "Will you let me fucking finish? Jesus." "Sorry." "Okay, so anyway...we refused to give. We flat-out told the son of a bitch that we weren't giving in. So you know what he did? He took the kid right from under our noses." "Asshole." "Yeah, you reckon? So he took the kid and we did what we could, but that really wasn't going to change anything. The kid tried to defend himself -- you know how it goes. But it was just a slaughter. He had no chance. Adam took care of him." |Clock chiming| "More than even? Adam's Angels...?" "Yeah, them too. Wasn't easy though. Didn't quite finish the job..." "Oh?" "Yeah. Not quite." Kill Adam takes place in the near future. It deals with the story of two lovers who worked for a man named Adam. Exactly what their jobs entailed is not to be revealed at this stage. Adam tried to diminish the pair's influence on the business and as a result, they refused to budge -- neither man wanted to compromise his position or influence. Adam, being the man that he is, decided to kidnap their adopted son. Their son, despite being trained to skilfully use a Katana, didn't manage to survive in the face of Adam's fury. Their son murdered, their careers in tatters, the two lovers decided to encact revenge on Adam. The idea was to not only kill Adam himself, but also the secretive and feared Adam's Angels. The Adam's Angels are a tight-knit group of female assassins who protect Adam wherever he goes. Adam, who lives in Osaka, Japan, runs an ostensibly reputable toy company. His company, however, has a seedy underbelly. The toys that the company produces are often filled with cocaine or some other such illicit substance. This is how he manages to keep himself afloat as a "gaijin". This is also how he keeps his posse well fed, well sexed and "always happy". This story contains two groups -- The Southern Vipers and Adam's Angels. The Southern Vipers was formed in an attempt to destroy Adam's Angels, in what promises to be a battle to end all battles. Note: The idea is to create sign-ups that are very "Kill Bill" inspired. So, I want to see outlandish names/callsigns and very thought-out biographies. Feel free to use great liberty when it comes to how your character looks and what weapon they use. Obviously, you want to remain in context...so no "giant laz0r cannonz" and make sure that your character is human. I strongly recommend that you watch Kill Bill before signing up at all. Myself and Shy will be collaborating on this story. So, we will be very strict in determining who gets in and who doesn't. If you get in, your character will be added to the super cool Cast List above. You can even use a picture of yourself. If you do, I will edit your photograph for the Cast List (you'll see how this works when I do it). I recommend face shots rather than whole body shots (as this makes editing easier for me), if you choose to use your own photo. You can use an entirely fake picture through (drawn or whatever). Doesn't really matter. Manga and anime style is probably better than other styles, due to the type of RPG this is. Make sure also to remember that this RPG takes place in Japan primarily. You do not have to be Japanese though -- it's often better to either just be your own "race" (as Shy and I are doing) or something else entirely. In Kill Bill, it's really only the "henchmen" who are Japanese. ~_^ Real Name: You can bleep this out if you don't want us to know right away. Or you can use a funny nickname. Callsign: Self explanatory. Age: Gender: You can even be a hermaphrodite or transgendered! Wow! Alliance: Southern Vipers, Adam's Angels or Neutral. Biography: Fill us in on your character's history. Personality: Self explanatory. Weapon: Only one weapon please. And no, you can't have a FA-18 jet as your weapon. But anything from a mace to a sharp dildo would be acceptable. Be creative but not so silly that your weapon bears no relationship to your character or to the story/history of that character. Picture: A photo, drawing, etc... As a final word, I'd like to make a couple of comments. Firstly, this will be my final RPG for quite some time. These things die out far too quickly...and I don't know how long this one will last. But I want to try it. Shy gave me the idea and I thank him for that; hopefully we can have a lot of fun here. I am soon going to be able to disable the censor in Otaku Arena as well. Strict new rules will accompany this (RPGs that include any coarse language will need warnings posted in them, for example). This is not done to simply allow massive amounts of swearing for no reason -- it is done to ensure that "mature" RPGs can be given space for flexibility. Some characters are simply going to use various types of coarse language to get their point across. And it seems that creative writers have been calling for me to lift the censor for a long time anyway. I warn you again that this RPG will be extremely violent -- maybe even graphically violent. It will also have significant sexual content and high levels of offensive language. Every thread related to this RPG will carry a stern warning about this, however. I encourage Tori, Jenna and Deborah to sign up as funky alter-egos of themselves, too. You know, "nasty" Adam's Angels. Shy and I imagined Tori being an assassin wearing a pink ballgown, for example. ~_^ Have fun!
  25. Thanks for the compliments, Kitty. This is a "banner" for an upcoming Shy/James RPG collaboration. Adam will even have some important cameo appearances in it...it will be an RPG revolution, I assure you.
