1. Well, I'll give you my honest opinion. I notice newbies. When I see "newbie" as your title, I notice you. And, newbies make me excited. Why? Because they are new to the OB experience. ~_^ Newbies bring so much to this site. They bring wonderful discussion to OL, all sorts of unique art to our design forums, and some really inventive and interesting ideas to our Adventure Arena. In short, newbies are what makes OB go round. We were all newbies at one stage or another and we all brought something positive to this place. I also like newbies because I don't yet know them. I want to hear what they have to say. I want to know their ideas about how to improve this place. And I want to see what kind of interesting things they can do (whether it's discussion/art/poetry/fiction/RPG/etc). So, you're hearing this from an "oldie". I like newbies. I find that I generally notice newbies in a positive, rather than a negative way. I'm not cynical about them at all; I see them as fresh and interesting. And I know that they can always bring something great to the community. Of course, you do get spamming newbies and whatnot. But often, newbies just need a bit of time to adjust to the way things work here. When given the chance, many will blossom into really amazing members with high quality posts. Those who leave or are banned were probably not worthwhile anyway -- and they shouldn't cast doubt on newbies generally. So there, that's my piece. ^_^;
 2.
Originally posted by Solo Tremaine There's a fantastic euphoria when you break out of being a Newbie. I'd be tempted to do it again just for that :p
Yeah, you have a sense of satisfaction when you move beyond that title, huh? That's kinda why I like it. It's like you've passed your initiation and been welcomed into the community. ~_^ It's like learning a new language or something. o_O;
 3. I'm looking at several ideas for v7, relating to titles. I've been thinking of totally revamping our user titles and changing them completely (perhaps adding more titles with smaller intervals between them). However, it might be confusing for people with higher post counts. That is, we're not all starting at zero once again. Still, we'll see how it goes. I always thought that Newbie was a cool title, because everyone starts there and eventually grows out of it. ~_^
 4. Funny thing is, we know little to nothing about the gameplay mechanics of this game so far. Capcom has been more interested in emphasizing the story elements for the media, rather than focusing on how the game plays. Hopefully, we'll see a fully playable version at Tokyo Game Show in October. I'm sure that everyone is very eager to look at this game in more detail, particularly when you consider that some highly talented individuals are working on the title.
 5. Those of you who follow the gaming news sites won't see much new information here, but for the rest of you, I thought it'd be worthwhile to share some new information about Killer 7 with you.
IGNcube: Capcom reiterated that Killer 7 is a game about the struggles between two men whose paths develop into a tale of "fate, revenge, and altering personas." Players assume control of Harman Smith, an assassin who has seven different personalities. Smith has noticed that violence is on the rise. He discovers that anyone with a "heaven's smile," or a crazed and distorted grin on their otherwise blank face, will soon become extremely violent and attack anyone in their immediate touch, but only after a group of these crazed soldiers murders his beloved girlfriend, Suzy. The character switches between his multiple personalities and uses each one's unique strengths and abilities to wage a war against local terrorist figures he considers "deserving to die."
This quote relates to newer information. However, if you want a full and complete summary of everything we know about the game so far, you can visit N-Sider's Killer 7 Preview". And now, here are some shots:
 6. That second claim is very interesting; we just reported on that at N-Sider recently, as several Japanese websites are talking about this apparent development. It makes me wonder how far people will go to get GCN online. I remember that people used to attempt all sorts of weird things with Dreamcast (even though it was actually an online-capable console in and of itself).
 7. Hawke3000...this thread really borders on being inappropriate. Asking people if they're from Newfoundland doesn't really equate to a discussion -- at least, not in the same vein as other discussions in this forum. I urge you to read our rules thoroughly, to as to ensure that you have a solid grasp of how our site operates. Once you get the hang of things, I'm sure you'll have fun. ^_^ And Krillen...please. While playing mod isn't against the rules (it's merely annoying), posting comments like yours in a spammy thread only further contribute to that spam. When someone posts a problematic thread and ten people post "This doesn't belong here", they're just as guilty of spamming as the thread creator. So, please bear that in mind for the future.
 8. Regarding the actual original thread, I guess I can only say that the situation is a shame. Change, this has very little to do with religion. It's merely a question of somebody lying to you. Perhaps she noted herself as being "Christian-lite" to make herself more palatable -- maybe she says that to everybody, who knows. Either way, she lied. She lied about herself, and in the process, made herself out to be something that she isn't. The same rules apply to everyone here, I think. If you're going to lie about yourself to make yourself more appealing to someone, then you know that your relationship is really based on that lie. Or at least, that lie is what keeps the relationship going in some sense. And that is obviously wrong. In terms of the rest of this thread...I don't want to get into it, because so much of it actually ignores what the original thread title was about. But, I did want to point one thing out: Re-li-gion n 1a) Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe. 2a) A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship. 2) The life or condition of a person in a religious order. 3)A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader. 4)A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion. Christianity is indeed a religion. People might have different interpretations on the word "religion", or they might see different connotations to that word. But, some of you are describing religion as a way of life and saying that this doesn't fall under religion. It does. It's a way of life, a philosophy, a belief system. Just wanted to clarify that.
 9. I agree with you there. Some people are misjudging the difficulty when it comes to implementation of a track editor. But having said that, games like TimeSplitters 2 have had extensive level editors...so, it certainly can be done. However, a track editor for F-Zero GX may require a much larger storage capacity. This is why I wish that Nintendo had released the SD Card Adapter from the very beginning. If Nintendo embraces the SD Card, more developers are going to be willing to use it. As for LAN play...I definitely agree with you there. LAN play is such a big addition to a game like this, as with something like Mario Kart.
 10. Well, time to bump this thread up again. I've been meaning to post about F-Zero GX lately, but I haven't really had time. I thought I'd share some more screens with you guys, though these are not particularly new. Still, they're non-watermarked and higher quality than you might see elsewhere. I also thought I'd share some new information about the game -- information that is making me increasingly excited about this title. In particular, there's one thing to note about this game (in relation to F-Zero X). F-Zero X was a game with stripped-down visuals, which facilitated the framerate smoothness and extreme speeds. F-Zero GX actually goes in the opposite direction; loading the visuals with great detail and variety, whilst still producing a silky smoothe framerate.
IGNcube: F-Zero GX does not suffer the same fate. And that is definitely the understatement of the day. Actually, developer Amusement Vision's take on the franchise is an intense, absolutely gorgeous journey into the F-Zero universe. F-Zero GX runs so fast at an uninterrupted 60 frames per second that you'll be taken back by the sensation of pure speed and motion. Right from the start, it moves quicker than the later vehicles in Wipeout and XG3. An interesting point, too: in my play time today, I never exceeded 1500 kilometers per hour in the game, but Nintendo's F-Zero GX master Chris Campbell claims (he's been known to lie, that dirty dog) to have reached speeds of 2400 KPH. I can't even imagine how quickly the tracks and environments must blur by at that mach speed. But even with 30 cars on-screen, no sacrifices have been made to the visual presentation. Quite the contrary, the race worlds in the game are more detailed and stylized than just about anything else available. GX is a software showpiece - the kind of game that's destined to be pulled off the shelf by GameCube owners looking to impress their unsuspecting friends.
I'm impressed with the way that the visuals have actually improved over time. When you look at the newer videos of the game, it's hard not to be blown away. Visuals even seem to have improved since the E3 demonstration, which is saying a lot.
IGNcube: At E3 2003, I knew I liked F-Zero GX. Now, I know that it's my favorite F-Zero game, no contest, and without a doubt.
This comment in particular underscores that the E3 demo wasn't as "full" as the newest media-only demonstration.
IGNcube: The real meat and potatoes of the game, though, is its new story offering, which plainly breathes new life into the franchise as far as I'm concerned. Here, you pick a pilot (there are more than 30 characters to choose from) and play him or her through 10 chapters of varying races highlighted by spectacular plot-driven full-motion video sequences and challenges. You'll earn tickets after completing each chapter and these can be used to buy access to the others. Amusement Vision has also formed a clever bond between the story and grand prix modes in that you'll occasionally fall short of tickets needed in story mode and need to earn them in grand prix. It's very well done. True, 10 chapters may not sound like much, but they're stretched over multiple courses. Perhaps the bigger consideration, though, is difficulty. This isn't Wario World, folks. You're going to have to work very, very hard for each race you win. I kid you not. After completing the first level, three of us then spent the next hour trying to make it through the second challenge. The object: to beat Goroh the Vengeful Samurai in a race through a desert track. The catch: the course is littered with boulders that tumble down from a close-by mountain. It literally took some of us 20 to 30 tries to beat it. Some never could. The same can be said of some of the middle-range and beyond grand prix levels. Mess up a single time in some of these and you won't be able to place. Take a turn too loosely and it's all over. The courses can be that unforgiving.
I'm glad that the difficulty element remains (and appears to have increased, if anything). F-Zero X had some pretty nasty courses and GX seems to continue that trend, and further expand on it.
IGNcube: The story mode is enhanced more thanks to a stunning presentation. Nintendo fans have too-long been gypped out of compelling FMV sequences (see: Super Mario Sunshine), but that's not the case here, and boy, what a difference. In the past, we've barely known Captain Falcon. He was just static selectable pilot. Now, you can watch the character come to life during in-story scenes. Hardcore Nintendo fans will appreciate the care that went into the crisp, clean, stylized sequences. Falcon walks through dirty bars, littered futuristic city streets, and seems to fear nothing as he encounters thug-aliens and monstrous enemy racers. He has his own theme music - all of the characters do (and you can listen to the thumping tunes any time from their pilot profile menu, which also details racer backgrounds and attributes).
Of course, graphics and game modes are one part of the equation. But with a game like this, controls are probably the most important element. If the controls don't feel comfortable, the game simply won't be any fun to play. Thankfully, F-Zero GX seems to do a fantastic job in this department.
IGNcube: But how does the game itself play? Tight, fast, and intuitive. Controlling the craft over the unpredictable tracks becomes something of an art form. The analog stick manipulates the vehicles, while the A button accelerates. Meanwhile, R and L can and must be used to trigger the air brakes for sharp turns, and pressing both buttons together dishes out a drift. (I've noticed that cars don't slide out of control nearly as easily as they did in F-Zero 64, which is a big improvement.) Still, these methods alone may not always work. Some streets bank so swiftly that you'll actually need to use the Z button to executed a 360-degree spin to successfully navigate them without losing speed or crashing into a wall. It's a bit tricky, but once you get the hang of it the move will make all the difference in your performance. When you're cocky enough, you can also use the Z-button to 360-spin enemies off of the tracks. It's all about timing. Finally, the Y button serves up the classic F-Zero boost, which momentarily kicks your craft into high-speed. The more you boost, the less shielding you'll have, so naturally you'll want to consider where the regeneration pads are in each course and decide when to go nitro-crazy based on that. It becomes part of the strategy, which is great. On top of everything else, the D-Pad switches camera angles (two third-person views and one first-person). The configuration is simplistic and arcade-ready while the execution is spot on.

IGNcube: From a technical standpoint, F-Zero GX is a GameCube standout. Not only does the racer run at a blazing 60 frames at all times, even throughout the multiplayer mode, but it also shines in progressive scan, too. And guess what? GX also displays in 16x9 widescreen mode. Calling all high-end television owners: you're going to be in a state of ecstasy when you see all of this in motion. And those of you with respectable stereo systems will likewise enjoy the crisp, clean Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound in place, too. The various courses impress on multiple levels. First, the artistic sense. Amusement Vision has created some breathtaking locales that both retain the character of the F-Zero universe and also update it so that it's all much hipper, much grittier and much cooler. There are tracks with rain and lightning flashes in the background, neon lights and signage, which seem inspired more by Wipeout than F-Zero, and there are also tunneled courses spilled with hazards, obstacles and high-flying jumps. The developer has, much more than Nintendo, used the GameCube to deliver some clean textures. There are instances even when some of the ground tiles look almost bump-mapped, though they are not. Unfortunately, there is no track editor or creator in the game - the biggest disappoint, in my opinion, especially since F-Zero X gave the feature to us and the SD Digicard adapter is available already in Japan. On the other hand, though, a customize mode does at least enable you to fully build a tricked-out ship complete with your own unique decals, which you can draw yourself or choose from a list. Nintendo showed off such decals as Super Monkey Ball faces, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario and Fox McCloud, though it did not confirm whether or not these would be available in the final game.
It's a big shame that no track editor exists, even on a second disc. A track editor would really make this a must-own game for everybody. But, I already consider it a must-own title for anyone even remotely interested in the F-Zero series (or racing in general, for that matter). In any case, I'm really looking forward to this game. Multiplayer looks like it'll be a blast, and the sheer difficulty and challenge is a great reason for me to own the title, considering that I've been playing a lot of relatively easy GCN games lately. I mean, I'm tempted to buy Wario World, but it seems to be another Luigi's Mansion -- short but sweet. While I enjoyed Luigi's Mansion a great deal, I'm not so sure that I want to pay full price for another game of such short length. F-Zero GX should be one game that'll keep players going for a while. And, as mentioned above, it's a real technical showpiece for GameCube as well.
 11.
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel Looks get you in, personality makes you stay. That's the basics of it, although I'd have to say there are far more factors around that that affect all of it.
I agree. Looks are obviously the first thing you notice, no question. You're not going to know someone's personality until you spend time with them. Hopefully, you'll meet someone who is physically attractive, but who also has a strong personality to keep your interest for a long period. If you manage to find someone like that, you're pretty lucky. ^_^
 12. I just thought I'd add...Australia's market is about comparable to the UK (despite the difference in population). And, it's actually incorrect to state that all the stores are no longer selling GameCubes. I know quite a few Kmart stores that still sell 'cubes. BigW...I wouldn't even worry about that. It's not a major video game supplier anyway -- at least, not like Toys 'R' Us and whatnot. GCN isn't doing well here, but GBA is. GBA is Nintendo Australia's lifeblood at the moment. So yeah, I just thought I'd throw that in. Marketing and pricing play a huge role here, as Tony correctly pointed out.
 13. Semjaza's right. If you see someone with more than one banner, obviously a Moderator hasn't noticed it. I haven't noticed anyone with multiple banners either, in recent times. Though I've certainly edited a couple of rule-breaking signatures in recent weeks (which had multiple banners). But lately I've seen nothing. Hopefully we'll eventually have software that deals with it automatically.
 14. Well, you can choose to never automatically subscribe to threads by adjusting that setting in your Profile. That way, you can use either reply type and you'll never be subscribed.
 15. The quick reply box has been there all along... o_O; Thread subscription services have also been in place ever since the very beginning; both UBB and vB have that service. Most forum software has that as a default service, I would say.
 16. I agree with you, Dan. And that's basically what I'm also saying. The point is, the United States, United Kingdom and Australia (the countries most relevant to members here) are not theocracies. They are pluralist, secular democracies. My fundamental point is that gay marriage doesn't impede the rights of anyone -- religious or otherwise -- and it doesn't prevent them from disagreeing or from rejecting homosexuality. If gay marriage saught to change the actual belief system of the church, that obviously wouldn't be right; just as the church's disapproval of homosexuality shouldn't be enshrined in the constitution as a law. The key issue is to ensure that all parties have appropriate freedoms under the law, where either party's practices do not impede the rights of the other. So yeah, I think most of us are agreeing with that sentiment -- Dan, I appreciate your willingness to look at my side of the issue and to understand the secular/state-related aspects. Far too many people look at this as a purely religious issue, where it's obviously much broader.
 17. Well, what about churches that accept gay people? They do exist. The church as a whole (and the "national heirarchy" or whatever it's called) doesn't have to support it, for sure. But some churchs who currently support homosexuality may also choose to support homosexual marriage under their designated religion. I think it's arrogant to tell other people that they can't have a religious marriage ceremony if it doesn't necessarily force the entire church to follow a line of thought...and if it doesn't intrude on your personal beliefs. As I was saying earlier, it's not something that impedes your right to practice your faith. It doesn't change your beliefs, or force you to change them. Just as you have the right to have one religious observance, others have the right to their own religious observance (their interpretations of the same religion, or of other religions). So, once again, it's a freedom of religion thing in this case. The church at large doesn't support homosexuality, but some small churches do. From a purely religious standpoint, I don't see an issue with those specific churches marrying couples. You might not agree, and that's okay -- it's your right. It's also your right to practice religion differently to that specific church. EDIT: It might be worth reading the last few pages of the thread, Dan. Some good points were brought up...and it'd be a shame to see some good discussion repeated again. I know you're connection's slow, but the last page or so is worth viewing for the debate to go forward, I think.
 18.
Originally posted by Taylor Hewitt No I was saying that's what some people type like when they don't correct it. And like I said I don't really care because I make high quality posts.
Well, you obviously haven't read the rules. You had two banners in your sig; I deleted one. We only allow one image per signature.
 19. And on that note, it's time to close this baby. I think four pages isn't too bad for a debate such as this. We seem to have similar threads popping up every few seconds around here. o_O Hopefully the threads we've got in existence contain a wealth of information on the subject, which people can refer to if they're curious. Also, these threads are difficult because they don't come down to a debate as such. They usually come down to people's basic opinion of a certain group of human beings...and such opinions (whether biggoted or not), aren't going to change within a thread on a forum.
 20.
Originally posted by Queen Asuka Alot of people seem to not care for Matriculated that much. I think it was neat.
Yes! Matriculated was probably the most "deep" of the shorts. I'm surprised that so few people can appreciate its beauty. It was really fascinating. The ending was so bittersweet...it was kind of tragic.
 21. I think your post was pretty reasonable. You weren't as harsh as I was. lol But what can I say? Sometimes it's important to debunk people like Fiasco in the strongest possible terms. It's that display of ignorance, repeated throughout society, which hurts any kind of civil rights movement.
 22. I'm not being mean; I'm being truthful. And this guy isn't a newbie; he's been on OtakuBoards for years under other names. My feeling is that if you're going to have such hateful, ignorant, shallow views of others...you are best to keep them to yourself, as opposed to spreading your venom in a serious and legitimate discussion.
 23.
Originally posted by Fiasco But I don't like gay people, infact, at times I hate them. Why do they have to be so different?
Aww. Why do they have to be so different? I've never heard a more silly question. They were born different. It's like saying "I hate people with downsyndrome! Why do they have to be so different?!?!"
Make their voices sound messed up? Wear some weird clothing lines, and wear them differently then you should wear them? Have to be like a girl, meaning more in-touch with their feminine side.
How stupid could these reasons possibly get? Their voices sound messed up? Geeze. So every time you hear a person with a voice you don't like, you immediately hate them? As for clothes...who said that ALL gay people weird "weird" clothes? God. I've never seen such a generalized, ignorant statement. And who said that all gay people are "feminine"? That's another generalization, which proves that you know little to nothing about gay people. I think you'll find that most gay people aren't feminine and that most are hard to recognize (simply because they aren't feminine -- they're the same as you...shock, horror!)
Were they like that when they were kids? No, I seriously DOUBT it.
Oh geeze. Yet another silly comment. Of course they were like that when they were kids. Ugh. Sure, they may not have dressed in the same way. But you're talking about the small percentage of gay people who actually do dress unconventionally. So what? Are you going to start hating people who dress differently to yourself? Are you going to hate arabs because of their headdresses? Are you going to hate Indians due to Turbans? No. Don't be so utterly foolish.
One day, they decided they were going to be gay because they couldn't get anyone of the same sex. Most of the gay people out there aren't REALLY gay. They aren't naturally gay, they choose to be gay.
Oh yeah, that's logical. Please...someone hold me back. Now I'm trying not to flame. That is the most stupid comment I have heard in my entire life. I can't even begin to tell you what's wrong with it. lol Don't you ever hear of situations where women fall for gay men? And why would anyone choose to be gay? That's just ridiculous. I don't even know how to respond to this...I'm too angry. Maybe somebody else can.
And to say your gay and your a Christian. Oh my word, that pisses me off to the ends of the Earth, it's AGAINST the bible to be homosexual or take parts in any homosexuality.
Once again, this just smacks of idiocy. Not only are you making vastly incorrect assumptions about gay people, but you're also telling people what religion than can or can't be.
And the reason why I don't like two guys kissing is cause I'm not gay...Plus the 2 girls can normally kiss better and make it look NIIICE...Hehe.
Oh, but...gay guys aren't really gay, they just CHOOSE to be gay because they can't get chickz?!?!?!! Please, someone help me here. lol It doesn't surprise me that you would be okay with lesbians kissing and not guys. Don't you see how utterly hypocritical and sexist that is? Ugh. You, my friend, are a small-minded, immature, ignorant biggot. If I banned people purely for being ignorant, biggoted maniacs, you'd be the first on my list. Sorry, but your post is just totally unacceptable -- even people who disagree with homosexuality would never be arrogant or stupid enough to make some of the outlandish claims you've made here. *sighs* I think I need to get my blood pressure checked. :flaming: :flaming:
 24. I'll eventually buy the SP, mainly because I want more GBAs (for multiplayer GBA/GCN link games). Plus, I'd probably buy one anyway if I had the money to spend on it -- the extra features are worthwhile to me. Of course, at the moment I'm spending most of my money on school. Visual Design is very expensive, thanks to the tools you have to buy frequently. o_O But yeah, it's worthwhile. Hopefully I can pick up an SP before long.
 25. AzureWolf, you really deserved both of those posts. Comparing homosexuality with incest immediately disqualifies you from having any kind of "educated" opinion. You know, there are people who compare interracial marriages with incest, in the same way that you've compared homosexual relationships with incest. You might say that interracial marriage is "out-of-the-ordinary" or whatever, but obviously, just because it's in the minority doesn't mean that you or anyone else has the right to declare that it's wrong. I just can't understand the gall of a person who wants to stand in front of someone else and declare their entire relationship wrong. It's the height of arrogance, ignorance and stupidity. I shouldn't even dignify AzureWolf further by going into it. There are some people who will simply never understand the concept of human equality.
