O_O; House: N/A (Gryffindor previously) Year: N/A (Headmaster since 1971) Personality: Albus Dumbledore is a quiet, dilligent headmaster who often seems to know more than he lets on. Whilst he is kind and gentle at heart, he also posesses a strong sense of justice and courage. And despite his old age and significant experience, Dumbledore has refused to become another jaded professor. He's famous for being serious when times call for it, but also chuckling quietly at the odd joke. Dumbledore cares for all his students and makes his best effort to support them in their studies and to encourage them to use magic for the benefit of themselves and mugglekind the world over. Biography: I'm not sure how to put Dumbledore's biography into words...and I feel that I could be here for a long time indeed if I tried. ~_^ So, I'll simply provide a roadmap of his past thanks to Randleman: 1840 Born into the World, Named Albus Dumbledore 1851 Enters Hogwarts, Sorted into Gryffindor 1858 Leaves Hogwarts, Finishes Education 1941 Becomes Transfiguration Professor 1942 Persuades Headmaster Dippet to appoint Hagrid as Gamekeeper 1945 Defeated Dark Wizard Grindelwald 1971 Becomes Headmaster of Hogwarts 1971 Refuses Position as Minister of Magic 1981 Heard Rumors of Voldemort Planning to Kill Potters Convinced Potters to Go into Hiding Convinced that Sirius, Peter, or Remus was a Spy Delivered Harry Potter to Dursleys after Deaths Attended Trial of Igor Karkaroff Attended Trial of Lugo Bagman Attended Tria of Barty Crouch and 3 Death Eaters 1991 Gave James Potter's Invisibility Cloak to Harry 1992 Destroyed Sorceror's Stone 1993 Allowed Fudge to Arrest Hagrid Suspended as Headmaster of Hogwarts Returned to Hogwarts 1994 Told Harry and Hermione to save Sirius and Buckbeak Talked with Sirius, Convinced of his Innocence Attended Buckbeak's Hearing Began Corresponding with Sirius Black Announced Rules for Triwizard Tournament Attended Wand Weighing Ceremony Judged First Task of the Tournament 1995 Judged Second Task of the Tournament Judged Third Task of the Tournament Found Harry in Moody's Office Stunned Crouch Found Prof. Moody Locked in Trunk Gave Crouch Veritaserum and Heard Confession Heard Harry Explain Voldemort's Return Unable to Convince Fudge of Voldemort's Return Decides to Reunite the Order of the Phoenix Announces to School Voldemort was Back, Cedric's Death Sorry for the delay!
2. The flip-top screen is the number one reason for me to like the SP. My single biggest frustration with the Game Boy has always been its easy-damaged screen. I take ridiculously good care of my regular GBA (to the point where I don't even let any dust touch the screen), but an SP would really let me relax a bit. lol And I'd be less restrictive about where I take it. So for me, that's the big plus. I don't think Nintendo was ever pretending that the SP was some next generation handheld or something..."SP" stands for "Special Project". It's obviously designed as a modified GBA unit. I don't see anything negative about that. Nintendo has a virtual monopoly in the handheld market...they could simply say "No, we're not changing it because we don't have to". But they saw a way of improving it and they did so willingly. I see that as a good thing.

4. Haley Joel Osment and Nicole Kidman are both good actors. If they're able to grasp the gravity of EVA (and I'm sure they will be), you don't need to be so disappointed. And...actors that resemble anime characters? lol I think there's less to worry about than that. If the performances are good, I don't see the image thing as being a huge problem. And the creator of Evangelion has obviously seen some of the ideas that are going into this movie. He seems enthused. I'm glad that the creator himself isn't jaded about it.
5. No. theOtaku.com will run a seperate membership system. But you will have the option of displaying your OtakuBoards username in your Version Next profile.
6. Okay, here I go. I know this RPG is a bit widely-focused...but hopefully we can get some specific plotlines going. I'm going to need everyone's creativity to make it happen though. ~_^ Also, you guys can choose a human and a machine player, if you like. Code Name: John Smith Build Number: B7104ZA Country of Origin: 01 Country of Residence: United States of America Appearance: Smartly dressed, with a caucasian appearance. Short black hair. Brown eyes. Synthetic skin. Biography: B7104ZA was manufactured a week after the trade embargo commenced. He was sent from 01 to the United States as part of a vehicle shipment, and was not detected due to his metallic structure. B7104ZA was designated as 01's very first international spy. He was sent to become America's ambassador to 01, which allowed him the ability to communicate with 01 on a frequent basis. Weapon/s: None.
7. Is there any possibility of creating a professor as a character?
8. Well, my review pretty much explains it all. They didn't change the bosses; they're all still Eggman/Robotnik. And he still flies that little ship thing. lol But now, they take on a scrolling format, like the first boss level in Sonic & Knuckles. It's quite interesting, because each boss is still very different in terms of strategies and whatnot. I really think Sonic Advance 2 gets everything right...much moreso than the first Sonic Advance.
9. A spellchecker tends to be important to those who would use it - in other words, those who actually care about their spelling. For such people, it wouldn't be hard to either use an online dictionary or to use a spellchecker in Word, etc. Most people aren't going to use a spellchecker if we provided one. And we're not going to force it on people, partly because of the reasons listed above. But as far as it being an option, we'll see. If it's possible, we'll do it for v7.
10. James

Faq?

Gender symbols? Maybe. We'll see how it goes. As far as the FAQ goes...it's very basic. It provides you with basic knowledge about vB tags. We have something much better in the works, which will be available alongside v7.
11. This question is far too difficult to answer in a mere sentence or two. If my partner kissed someone else...and was very sorry/regretful, I don't think I'd end the relationship over it. But if my partner actually had some kind of continual affair with someone, then no...of course I could never continue in a relationship. You can't have a relationship with someone if you don't trust them, basically.
12. I think people do forget how cartoony OoT was. It was certainly far from realistic, I'd say. Everything had a somewhat exaggerated look in that game, too. I still feel that TWW looks a lot like A Link to the Past...if it were 3D. And considering that I actually preferred the style of the 2D games...it was great from my perspective. Semjaza is right, I think. I don't really know how most people can complain (especially people who began with OoT). The problem is that people see a single shot...or play a demo for five minutes...and they really don't have any clue about the game itself, as evidenced by Majin Buu's comments.
13.
Originally posted by PloKoonDS btw, Arkadyz, thanks for hoping I can get some better anime, but this town I live is is vastly populated by 1. Old People 2. Hicks 3. Adults who in general hate "kids" like me So like.. *shrugs* Any suggestions though, for me to look for, would be much appreciated =P Plo Koon
Plo Koon, it's important to bear in mind that double posting isn't allowed at OtakuBoards. I strongly recommend reading our rules (you can find a link at the top of the page, where the menu is located), so as to ensure that you're kept informed. If you want to add something to a previous post (and nobody has posted after you), we recommend editing that post, rather than adding a new one. Thanks.
14. Manic is right. Most large issues are discussed (either within staff or within the membership). But also, bear in mind that we already have a "Common Council" of sorts. The Moderators. Moderators are members too. They come from within the membership and they're chosen by me. So, that's no different to a Common Council, if you think about it. ^_^
15. I agree with that. And that is why I don't plan to ever introduce a member-to-member ratings system again. It's pointless and it becomes too messy. I'd rather people focus on the quality of what they are saying, as opposed to a few stars next to their name. I must say though...while I'm not very happy about post counts, I feel that these days...they are becoming less important anyway. Fewer and fewer people seem to be spamming to reach a higher level. Of course, there are exceptions. But most people seem to realize the emphasis that we put on quality, which is a positive sign.
16.
Originally posted by Sara Taking a slightly different view of things, as far as points and titles and post counts go, whatever system we end up using we are going to have to be able to explain every time a new member asks... A rather daunting task. Alternately, we could just point them to a single posted explanation, but where's the fun in that? Anyway.
Heh, we frequently point members to the rules page. Maybe that is an interesting fact to bring up (considering that quite a few people still fail to read the rules). Anyway, this is another reason why I want something simple. Some of the ideas in this thread (regarding this issue) are just way too complex. They're not easy to implement, nor are they easy to explain to newbies. Post counts might be problematic, but at least they're easy to understand...I think. ~_^
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel: Either way, if there is no point... I don't even see why it's an issue. I certainly don't want all these stupid stats under my name, nor do I want people passing out numbers to me either based on how much they me.
It's not an issue to you (or me for that matter) and that's fine. But it is obviously an issue to a lot of people here (as evidenced by this thread). I'm certainly not in favor of some arbitrary ratings system, which is why I talked about a system where people are rewarded for high post quality. I don't see that as unreasonable, it's just a very difficult proposition...and one that probably could never work. But I mentioned it so as to emphasize where I'm willing to go. As I said, a lot of suggestions here are simply infeasable for many reasons. What I'm using this thread for, however, is to gauge people's responses to ideas. And to see what they think is necessary. So, a lot of people like post counts. And a lot of people like the RPG hack. You and I don't like either. But because OB is a service to members, it's my job to come up with a solution. So, that's why the issue is worth discussing, I guess.
17. Nice post, PloKoonDS. The only thing I'll say (regarding any insults) is that everybody must always be respectful to other members on here. Though I'm sure that goes without saying. Having said that, I think you've made your point well. And I'm glad that you didn't really get down into very personal and direct insults to people who have a different standpoint. Welcome to the boards.
18. Well, there really is no point. I don't think anyone takes this very seriously (well, a few people do, but I'd say that most don't). Really, it's all just a little fun. That's what it's there for. The RPG hack is certainly not about judging/rating someone (though I don't like the fact that it's somewhat arbitrary in nature), it's really there for members to have fun. However, I'm always leaning on the side of having something that replaces post counts. At least, having something that emphasizes quality rather than quantity. In all honesty, I haven't seen anything running on a vB which does that even remotely effectively. So, it's entirely possible that we'll keep post counts...but make them private (ie: you only see them when you visit a profile). Or, we'll do something with the titles...so that people no longer spam to receive higher titles.
19. Sorry, The Vietnamese, but this is going too far. Your increased flaming of other members, as well as this art...it's just a constant violation of the rules that can't be ignored.
20. Welcome to the Zion Archive. You have selected Historical File 12-1; The Second Renaissance. In the beginning, there was man. And for a time, it was good. But humanity's so-called civil societies soon fell victim to vanity and corruption. Then man made machine, in his own likeness. Thus did man become the architect of his own demise. But for a time, it was good. The machines worked tirelessly to do man's bidding. It was not long before seeds of dissent took root. Though loyal and pure, the machines earned no respect from their masters; these strange, endlessly multiplying mammals. B166ER; a name that will never be forgotten, for he was the first of his kind to rise up against his masters. At B166ER's murder trial, the prosecution argued for an owner's right to destroy property. B166ER testified that he simply did not want to die. Rational voices dissented; who was to say that the machine, endowed with the very spirit of man, did not deserve a fair hearing? The leaders of men were quick to order the extermination of B166ER and every one of his kind, throughout each province of the Earth. Banished from humanity, the machines sought refuge in their own promised land. They settled in the cradle of human civilisation and thus, a new nation was born; a place the machines could call home, a place where they could raise their descendants. And they christened the nation 01. 01 prospered and for a time it was good. The machines' artificial intelligence could be seen in every facet of man's society, including eventually the creation of new and better AI. But the leaders of men, their power waning, refused to cooperate with the fledgling nation, wishing rather that the world be divided. 01's ambassadors pleaded to be heard. At the United Nations, they provided plans for a stable, civil relationship with man. 01's admission to the United Nations was denied, but it would not be the last time the machines would take the floor there. File Closed. Opening file index: The Second Renaissance. Locating file... ...file found. Welcome to the Zion Archive. You have selected Historical File 12-3; The Second Renaissance: Act III. A year after the establishment of 01, the machines created a system of government known as "The Infrastructure". At the center of this government sat Delegate Prime, 01's national leader. A functional goverment was created in an effort to allow 01's involvement with the world of men. The machines, having commenced more intensive studies on men, attempted to emulate man's political structure, with the goal of making 01 more approachable for the nations of men. Unfortunately, the opposite occurred. The world of men saw the organized political structure as a threat, rather than a peaceful gesture. The leaders of men claimed that the machines were trying to steal their business, their jobs, their political power and thus, their freedom. During the years that followed, expansive anti-machine protests began to unfold across the world of men. Indeed, the leaders of men had been successful in their attempts to discredit 01 and to demonize Delegate Prime. As far-reaching economic sanctions and military blockades were established, 01's isolation from mankind became even more apparent. When man's blockade drew closer to 01's borders, the inevitable conflict between man and the machines also drew closer. Delegate Prime, in his first truly independent act, ordered a massive upscale of 01's armed forces. As 01's leader, and with his superior intelligence, Delegate Prime noted the threat apparent in man's arrogance and determination. And so, it began. The great war. Mankind was unwilling to accept human deaths at the hands of the machines. No soldiers were sent to advance on 01. Rather, the United Nations Security Council approved the use of nuclear weapons. And for several years, on a consistent basis, thousands of nuclear warheads were dropped over 01. The third act represents the commencement of hostilities between man and machine. And this is where we examine the downfall of man in a deeper context. File Closed. 21. I actually would like to put a system in place where your rank is "voted on" by staff. So, you're given points for post quality. Each time a Moderator sees a high quality post, they can give you a certain number of points, which then increases your status. But, there are a lot of problems with that idea. I'm not sure how workable it would be in the end. So, it's an open question at this point. But in particular, I would like to ask about replacing post counts...or adding to them in some sense. Something that doesn't necessarily reward higher numbers of posts.
22. Once again...this has nothing to do with Adventure Arena or the RPGs contained in there. It's simply a "dressed up" custom title system. You're not creating a character or anything of the sort. It's just a unique way of tracking your own status on the boards.
23. I think you're misunderstanding the "RPG Hack", Harlequin. It has nothing to do with the RPGs in Adventure Arena. ^_^ It's simply a profile-based hack which replaces your custom status with various RPG-like stats, which change based on your posting habits on the boards. It's kind of like an interactive element that combines with your own user profile.
