1. I'm sorry, but posts like this are not allowed at OtakuBoards. I recommend that you read our rules before you continue posting. ^_^
2. I think this really does come down to personal preference. I like both. I'm very used to watching subbed movies, because I watch a lot of live-action subbed movies. So, I'm used to reading text and watching the action. It depends on the anime, for me. Some animes get the voices and timing right...and others don't. In the case of live-action, it's interesting to note that I've seen both the subbed and dubbed versions of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The dubbed version is horrible. Voices sound forced and ridiculous and the timing is sometimes really laughable. Yet, the subbed version contains the original voices...which contain much more emotion and better timing. So yeah, it just depends on the movie/series, I guess.

4. Sure, you can use any of our smilies for personal and/or public use. Smilies are shared over the Internet among many sites, so you'll rarely find a case where they'll be exclusive to a particular site. However, the "Mod Rod" smiley was produced by GinnyLyn, so you might want to ask for her permission before you use it (if you intend to use it, that is). But every other smiley on OtakuBoards is open for your use.
5. There is no question that your environment affects who you are to a great extent. Sure, certain aspects of our personality are "hard-wired" (like our sexuality, or maybe our general temperament...etc etc). I'm sure there are things within us that no outside influences can change, no matter what. But our political beliefs, religion and so on are often parts of us that are a direct result of our upbringing, in my opinion. From my point of view...I was brought up by very open-minded parents. Two tolerant people. People who never instilled a particular religious or political belief system in me at any point. My parents always told me that it was my decision. So for instance, my grandparents (on my father's side) are deeply religious people. And if a question ever came up (me asking my parents about that), they would never say "No that's wrong" or "Yes that's right". They would always encourage me to follow my own line of thought...to make my own conclusions about things. And as an adult, that is one thing that I appreciate more than anything. I think it's an experience that has helped to free my mind, so to speak. It has allowed me to think objectively, more than anything else. But that's the influence of my parents. In terms of my environment? It's hard to say. Australia is a pretty friendly and tolerance place, generally speaking. And I don't think that there is a huge variance from city to country, or state to state. Really, there are minor differences. But from my point of view, having lived in different parts of this state, I don't think I've ever encountered significantly different influences on my life. So it's hard to say. If I dropped everything today and moved to the United States, I'm sure that I would always maintain a deep love and affection for my birthplace. But I'm sure that's no different for anyone else, regardless of where they come from. Still, I don't necessarily feel that your "national identity" is what shapes you entirely. It's your day-to-day experiences...and most importantly, your family, that influences you as a human being.
6. SuperMaxSonic, using multiple accounts on OtakuBoards is against the rules. We have very significant security concerns, when it comes to this issue. Right now I don't have the time, but I'd like to ask that Charles delete all of SMS's accounts except for his original one. SuperMaxSonic, if you attempt to create another account in future, you will be banned permanently.
7. o_O;; Firstly, I don't know why anyone would spend the time to do something like this. I never made a video about kuja (and I had plenty of material to work with lol). Secondly, the video itself contains content unsuitable for OtakuBoards. So, it's no different than if you posted the text from it. Thirdly, this could very well be considered flaming. And that isn't allowed on OtakuBoards. Whatever conflict you have with PoisonTongue really should be kept off the boards. If PoisonTongue is seen flaming you here, he will be dealt with, I assure you. Now, please. Let's regain some maturity here.
8. Well, the GameCube seems to have been the "target platform" for SC2. There was even talk of it being exclusive for a period of time. Though I haven't followed the release dates. The game came out on all consoles on the same day, didn't it? It seems like Namco backed away from its original commitment a little in that regard. Anyway, I see your point. It really does come down to the controller and the character. I'm not yet sure if I'll get the game...but if I do, I'll probably buy the GCN version. I really dislike playing certain games on the PS2 (fighters being one); basically any game that uses the D-Pad extensively. Plus, I prefer the GCN control stick. But I'm not sure if I'll even get it. There are so many "must have" games on my list right now. I still don't have Dark Cloud 2...and I really wanted to get that.
9. The only thing worth adding here is that Soul Calibur 2 was primarily designed for the GameCube. Do you think that makes a difference at all? (I haven't played this game yet). I don't find the small D-Pad problematic at all; I've used it in Mortal Kombat quite comfortably. And it's preferable to the PS2 pad in nearly every respect (the D-Pad might be small, but it doesn't shred your fingers lol). But yeah, it's funny how the Saturn controller worked really well with these sorts of games. The second generation pad (the chubby one) is still the most comfortable pad I have ever used.
10. This sounds like a great idea, actually. If I had more time, I'd enter. But yeah...er...you never know. If I get time on the weekend, I might make a Gundam. ^_^;
11. Well, Goemon was just plain cool. Who can't love a giant robot who's number one goal is to become a famous TV star? ~_^ JSR is pretty appreciated amongst "hardcore gamers", I'd say (even though I don't like using that term). But generally, it didn't sell very well - even amongst other Dreamcast releases. And that's a huge shame. The same can definitely be said about Eternal Darkness. It's one of the most finely polished games I've ever seen and it certainly didn't receive due credit in terms of sales. Although, if games sold based on quality, Metroid Prime would have sold three million copies or more by now. o_O Another game that I feel was underrated was Street Racer on SNES. It was one of Ubi Soft's first games. And really, it was one of the most unique "kart racers" out there. In fact, it even beat Mario Kart at some things (it was very much a Mario Kart clone...but it was superior in some ways). The soccer mode was especially fun. You actually play soccer while you're in your vehicle...it's hard to explain, but it worked very well. It was especially fun in the two player mode. I'm not sure how popular the game was in the United States, but it wasn't terribly popular here. It was great fun though; one of my most rented games.
12. Well, I tend to feel that given the size of the Universe...it would be quite surprising if there actually weren't any other species on other planets. I heard an interesting analogy about our galaxy a few years ago. It said that within this one galaxy, there are as many stars as there are grains of sand on the Earth. When you consider how many individual grains of sand are on the Earth...and you consider that it's just in our ONE galaxy...and there are countless billions of galaxies...well, you get my point. I think it would be absolutely bizarre if this was the ONLY planet out of an almost-infinite number to bear life. Considering that I feel that religion (ie: the account of creation) is a man-made account (and one produced thousands of years ago, at a time when man had no knowledge of his environment), it simply doesn't factor into my thought at all. There is evidence of water on Mars for example...and I think it's quite likely that fossilised life (or evidence of life) might be found. If that happens, it would debunk a lot of human myths about Earth, for sure. And that's a good thing; becoming more educated about one's environment can only be beneficial, I'd say. So yes, I guess my answer to this is "yes". But it's really hard to say; I don't think any of us are really qualified to answer in terms of how realistic this idea is. You'd have to talk to an astronomer who knows a bit more about it. But generally, I think it would be very remarkable if Earth was the only inhabited planet out there.
13. Heh, I think you're right. If you don't worry about yourself, you will probably end up having a more enjoyable time. But everyone's different...I mean, everyone has different tastes. I guess you have to find someone who is compatible with you or whatever. o_O;; As far as the mango thing goes...are you talking about eating mango while having sex? Or are you saying that eating mango will make you orgasm, sex or no sex? ^_^; *climbs out of recently-dug hole*
14. Hm, I like the pointy-look. It's stylized. ^_^ Pretty awesome drawing though. Lots of detail and very clean lines. The left hand looks webbed...but you only need to add a few lines to fix that. Very nice indeed. ^_^
15. Hm, interesting. I've never "faked it" as such. But if it's ever been bad...I've kind of forgotten about myself and focused on the other person. Funnily enough, that other person was selfish enough not to care whether or not I was being looked after. lol Ahem. Yeah.
16.
Originally posted by liamc2 See the thing is, if you've been a virgin up to that point, how would you know?
Well, as someone else said...if you're falling asleep, you'll know. Even a virgin can easily identify shoddy sex. ~_^
17. Hm, interesting question. I guess that the most underrated game I've played in recent times would be Rez. What an amazing game. Sure, it was short. Too short. But nevertheless, it was such a fantastic little game. It was critically acclaimed, though like many critically acclaimed games...that wasn't enough to save it in the sales department. Another would be Jet Set Radio. JSR is still one of my all-time favourite video games. It just has this atmosphere and aura about it...it's so addictive. I love it. In terms of older games...lemme think. The first that comes to mind is Goemon 5 for Nintendo 64. I think it was called "Legend of the Mystical Ninja" or something in the United States. In any case, it didn't sell. But that's a shame, because it was a truly good game. Some of the challenges were really quite unique. Goemon 5 is actually kind of like Mario 64 combined with Zelda. It's essentially a platformer, but with quite a few RPG elements involved. I can understand why it wasn't popular though. The story basically takes place in Feudal Japan, where a gang called the "Peach Mountain Dance Troupe" (who incidentally arrive in a flying Peach) try to overtake Japan with western culture. It's such a hilarious game though; the jokes are absolutely stupid (some of them don't translate too well), but whenever a joke is made...you actually hear the audience laugh. lol It's a quirky little title with lots of charm. It's a great deal of fun and I really recommend it to everyone who likes to try something new. ^_^
18. I'm sorry, but this is obviously spam. Please refer to our rules (you'll find a link at the top of the page) to ensure that this doesn't happen again. If you want a link to a site, I recommend putting this question in your signature rather than creating a thread for it.
19. I am less concerned with how this game looks than how it plays. These anime-based games are rarely any good to play. I hope that the developers can do justice to the anime and really deliver something that truly pleases anime fans.
20. We did used to have a message on the front page that simply said "All members must read and agree with our forum rules before registering". So, that was pretty clear. The message is gone, because of template changes and such. However, for v7, my intention is to make the rules a whole lot easier to find and interpret. The rules will be completely rewritten and it's possible that we'll have both a link and a full list of rules on the registration page as well.
21. I have to agree with Semjaza. I doubt that Sephiroth would ever leave over something so ridiculous. It sounds like another Proud Clod episode. But if it is Seph, then all I can do is express my sincere disappointment. Nobody is above the rules on OtakuBoards and nobody, regardless of the time they've been here, has the right to be rude to other members. I don't care who it is -- I will hold everybody to the same standard. And that's the way it should be. I'm not here to hand out preferential treatment or something. But anyway, I don't know if this is Seph or not. If it's not, I'm guessing Seph will speak to me over AIM anyway. EDIT: Sephiroth has just spoken to me on AIM and confirmed that this isn't him. Someone else used his computer. Seph was not even in Birmingham (his home) at the time of the post.
22.
Originally posted by Mystik ok, maybe i didnt say this very clearly, but what i meant is that shigeru miyamoto made the original zelda game in 1981. i dont know if many of you people out there realize, but there was many before the N64 version. And i said lead director, what i meant was designer, he designs and makes many of the games. which is why he played such an important role in mario games, the original ones for NES were all what he did basically, his ideas, his programming, etc back when nintendo was one of the only, and the best around(atari and other things made only like 3,000$ a year after nintendo showed up.) And, the original mario game by Shigeru Miyamoto is the best selling game with the exception of the original The Legend of Zelda (both for NES) that Nintendo ever came out with. (they made litterally billions off of the games.)Over 100,000,000 (100million) copies sold for both of them each individually. p.s. Super Mario Sunshine pwnz
Well, you're kind of getting off the track a little now. You originally listed a group of games that you said Shigeru Miyamoto designed. And so, I was just explaining that Miyamoto's role isn't that "omnipotent". I mean, he didn't act as a programmer in any of the Mario titles, for instance. He was never a programmer; he was a graphic designer. Also, I don't know why you're sitting there listing sales figures. You're not telling me anything that I (or any well-read Nintendo fan) doesn't already know. I am just pointing out that there is much more to Nintendo than Shigeru Miyamoto. Miyamoto is a genius, no doubt. And he's highly important to Nintendo. But HE isn't all of Nintendo in one man. Just look at the people I spoke about earlier; they deserve credit too. As for Zelda...The Legend of Zelda was published in 1986, wasn't it?
23.
Originally posted by Mystik Well, seeing as he is lead designer and OWNER of nintendo, they cannot fire him.
Shigeru Miyamoto wasn't responsible for Metroid, firstly. In fact, he's never been involved in Metroid...only Metroid Prime. Secondly, he hasn't directed a game in years. The Wind Waker and Majora's Mask were not directed by Miyamoto. Luigi's Mansion was directed by Hideko Konno (who is also responsible for Mario Kart and the Yoshi games) and Super Mario Sunshine was directed by Yoshiaki Koizumi (who also came up with the FLUDD idea). I'm not trying to diminish Miyamoto-san's importance, but he isn't the be-all and end-all of Nintendo. Secondly, Miyamoto doesn't "own" Nintendo. He is on the board of directors, but he doesn't run the business. Nintendo's President is Satoru Iwata. Also, I was referring to the idea of Gunpei Yokoi being fired...not Miyamoto. Maybe I didn't make that very clear. I think it's also worth bearing in mind that by focusing all your attention on Miyamoto, you forget some important people who have been heavily involved in the success of Nintendo. For instance, Mitsuhiro Takano has played a massive role at NCL in recent years. He's done everything from script writing to assistant directing. He was heavily involved in the production of The Wind Waker for GameCube. Yoshio Sakamoto was primarily responsible for Metroid Fusion; he directed it. He also played a massive role in the development of Metroid Prime. So, I could go on and on. Basically, it's important to remember Miyamoto's position in the company overall. I would hate for other talented people to miss out on getting some recognition. ~_^
24. Hm...it's great that you came out of it okay (relatively speaking, I guess). And I hope you feel better soon. ^_^ As far as surgery goes, I did have several surgeries as a baby. These were somewhat due to the fact that my mother was really sick when she had me...she came very close to dying when giving birth. The weird thing was, I was actually very healthy at the time. o_O But yeah, I haven't had any surgery in recent times. Or at least, none since I was a baby. The biggest "sicknesses" I've ever had included things like the odd asthma attack (though I rarely, rarely get asthma...but on a few occasions, I've had it very badly). Asthma is one of the worst things in the world...I wouldn't want anybody to go through the experience of feeling like you are breathing in mouthfuls of water when all you're doing is gasping for air.
25. If I had to choose one thing about OtakuBoards that I'm proud of...it's the tolerance and acceptance. That's what this place should be. We all come here to enjoy each other's company and at the same time, the vast majority of us are completely open to each other. I mean, there is really no need to be anyone but yourself here. It's what I'm most proud of about the community. I guess that's all I can say. Lalaith, you deserve respect for being so open about a subject that so few people understand (or are willing to discuss).
