Originally posted by Metatron I stand by what I said in a different post that with the advancement of technology, humankind has less and less respect for any life in general. All you have to do is pull a trigger.
I disagree. There is a wealth of information to completely contradict that perspective (at least as far as talking about animal life and the environment). Just look at the developments in regard to hybrid/hydrogen vehicles, wind/solar power, biodegradable packaging, sustainable development programs, etc etc... If we were caring less and less about life and nature, we would probably be polluting more today than ever before. But the opposite is true; today we're polluting far less than we did between the 1960's and 1980's. That's due to improvements in technology. And that is due to increased awareness of the environment. As far as actual respect for human life goes...well, the "gun problem" isn't a worldwide issue I don't think. The availability of guns is something that is more a problem in certain specific nations. And people have really varying opinions on that issue, so I don't know what I could say about it...other than the fact that I'm happy that guns are not very widely available in Australia.

Though I don't think you can compare mankind to volcanoes and such. I mean, our form of destruction is something that is really unnecessary - it's not part of Earth's natural processes. But still, part of our development as a race/society is to improve our technology to a point where we no longer harm the environment. I think that will happen in the future. As for the hunting thing...I wouldn't say that mankind kills animals only for fun. We are omnivorous beings, afterall. Our bodies are designed to eat both meat and vegetables. So, I think there is some legitimacy when it comes to farming and such. lol

A couple of points for you, pidey. First, double posting is against our rules. If you have something else to say, you should edit your original message. Secondly, this forum allows for feedback and suggestions relating to OtakuBoards.com only. Anything related to theOtaku.com won't get picked up here. If you have some suggestions for theOtaku.com, you should email Adam: That is the fastest way for you to be acknowledged and for any issues to be sorted out.

Well, asking people if they deserve to exist is kind of a loaded question. lol If you exist, you exist. There's nothing anybody can do about that, so it's not a question of whether you have the right to exist or not. I think all people have the right to exist, though. But what you're asking is whether or not we deserve to live on this planet or something, I guess. I think some do and some don't. Companies that willingly pollute the environment (and people who litter, etc) obviously don't appreciate the world they live in. Thus, they're not doing anything to protect it. But generally speaking, I'm not one to get into the whole "the world is coming to an end and we all deserve to die" frame of mind. Basically, mankind is starting to address the environment in a very serious way. I think generally, we are starting to realize how much of an impact we're having. And it's becoming more important to be eco-friendly. There are a few reports over recent months that suggest things are moving in the right direction. One of them confirmed that the hole in the ozone layer is now shrinking - a sign of increased efficiency on the part of industry and individuals. And in some cities, smog is starting to reduce year by year, a sign of increasingly fuel efficient cars. So really, things are always improving thanks to awareness and technology. I think it's a bit overzealous to start saying that people don't deserve to be here and whatnot.

Well, basically, we've tried an Introduction forum on two seperate occasions. But it never works. It invariably fills up with spam. At this forum (as with many high quality forums), we expect members to maybe read a little bit before joining. Most people who join have been guests for a while beforehand and some people already know the ropes. So, people can introduce themselves within their first post...but we don't want introduction-specific threads. This isn't exclusive to our site; there are many other forums that don't allow Intro threads for the very same reason.

Aw Espio...how cool. ^_^; Anyway, yeah. I'm looking forward to this game. It certainly seems like a more interesting concept than previous Sonic games...and this game doesn't seem to be pretending to be something it's not (ie: pretending to be Mario). SA and SA2 had too many "slow" levels. I didn't like that. This game looks like it'll be more old school, in terms of being speed-based. But at the same time, the teams will liven things up a bit. I can't wait. ^_^
-
I think that most first person shooters are "the same old game". First person shooters are games that, in my view, change the least over time. We've seen some really innovative exceptions to the rule (games like System Shock II, Half-Life and maybe even Metroid Prime [yes, I know it's a "FPA", but bear with me lol]) could be included there). But generally, things stay linked to pretty standard conventions. I mean, for one thing...I think Quake is the most overrated franchise amongst FPSs. Quake II was, in particular, a very poor single player game. Yes, it did end up being more multiplayer focused...but the single player game was utterly horrible in my opinion. By the second level, I was bored to death by it. lol And so, I've found that generally I've preferred console FPSs. Games like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark are examples. I think that PD was pretty underrated, because people kept comparing it to Goldeneye. But ultimately, PD was a really great game. It was so finely balanced and it had some amazing and unique gameplay. So, I can't wait to see PD2 on Xbox. I really hope that it will be a good departure from the traditional FPSs that pop up all the time. Doom III...I don't know. It does look gorgeous and it is apparently very atmospheric (which I can definitely imagine). But will it be very different? I don't know. I feel like I already know how it will feel to play...but I really don't want to judge it until it's released. I can bet you one thing though. Doom III will receive consistently high ratings, regardless of how good it is. And, like Enter the Matrix, it will sell truckloads...even if it ends up being mediocre. That doesn't mean it will be bad. But it'll definitely sell well regardless, I can guarantee it. (By the way, shouldn't this be in the PC forum? I know that we're sort of talking about console ports...but Doom III is a PC-only game, afterall).
-
If you look at the two, you'll find that they are both entirely different. The Matrix is a completely different idea to .hack//SIGN. .hack//SIGN is actually a totally voluntary game with an entirely different premise and reason than The Matrix. Yeah, Tsukasa can't log out. But even that aspect is different from the people in The Matrix. They are totally unaware that they're even in a Matrix...so they have no desire to "log out" whatsoever.

But "heavy spear" is not what the weapon would be called in real life; it's just for the purposes of the anime/game. Having said that, I don't even know if his weapon is a real life weapon. If it is, then it's got a proper name, I guess.

I would also note that Peter Jackson is a really hardcore LotR fan. When he made that movie, he really wanted it to please the fans. So at the very least, here's a guy who understands the sensitivities of hardcore fans. At least it's him as opposed to some cold studio executive. lol

What can I say...your post doesn't surprise me. Unfortunately it's an example of how a lot of people think. V_V Not to mention the fact that your post quality has not improved, despite the fact that you were asked on several occasions to improve it. Please try to make your posts a little clearer, or your stay at OtakuBoards will be a short one.

I just think that we should at least give people a chance. Evangelion is not some work of God or something; there's nothing to suggest that a team of creative people can't do something fantastic with it. I sincerely hope that a truly good film is produced. I agree that there is a slim chance, but there is a chance. ^_^

Well, firstly, double posting is against our rules. So you may want to read them, just to make sure. Second, you can make a button for our site if you like; I don't mind how you link to it. That's up to you. And third; you can make avatars by submitting them in the avatar request area. People ask for what they want and members make avatars/banners for 'em. ^_^ -

This is a really nice site; I like it. ^_^ However, it is generally not our policy to affiliate. theOtaku.com and OtakuBoards have very strenuous quality control and we are very cautious about linking up with any other sites. We have actually affiliated before (we affiliated with CloudChaser [aka XenGamers] a while ago), but this is rare. Still, I appreciate your interest in our site. And I really hope that you continue to post here and become a member of our community. ^_^ -
Zara sat to the opposite of Ariel. She looked outside thoughtfully. The morning light was not as pure as it was in the countryside. But rather, the morning looked like the dark orange dusk of the evening before. There was no true daylight in the city. Ariel looked at Zara, who appeared to be deep in thought. She noticed that Zara was quite a flawless woman, with finely shaped features and long dark hair, which traced her spine and which never seemed to be anything but neat. Zara glanced at Ariel. "Today we have somewhere to go," she said. "Oh?" Zara nodded. "Yes. Have you ever heard of Sublime 7?" Ariel shook her head. "No, I haven't." Zara stood up and walked around the counter to where Ariel was sitting. She sat on a stool beside her and spoke quietly and deliberately, as though she didn't want anyone else to hear. "Sublime 7 is a nightclub in the northern sector. It's a dangerous place; full of thieves, drug dealers and who knows what else. But we have to go there this evening." "Why?" asked Ariel. "Because that's what we are here for. We are here to learn of the forces that are ruining this earth. And we have to stop them. Sublime 7 is owned by a powerful tycoon who owns half of this city. He's a prime source of the crime and pollution that permeates the streets of the city," said Zara. "Oh, I see. I'm not sure if I can stomach another trip into the city..." Ariel winced. "You will be fine, Ariel. Together we will be okay. I will protect you," said Zara softly.
Originally posted by Metatron Umm... I have some doubts on how the heck Hollywood intends to make the angels, Evas, and the battles on CG... on top of that, the I don't think any actor can fill in the spots of Rei, Shinji, Asuka, Misato, etc.... And Evangelion is much deeper than Mario Bros. =P And I did not say that Anime make u open minded =P
So you're saying that Hollywood can't make the angels, EVAs and battles with CGI? That sounds pretty ludicrous to me. What about movies like The Matrix and such? I'm not trying to make a comparision, I'm just trying to point out that the special effects technologies are advanced enough to render the EVA battles. The EVA battles aren't exactly all that complex - they could be done quite well with CGI I'd say. Probably a lot better than you think. Secondly, I think you're really starting to put EVA up onto an invisible pedestal here. You're saying that no actor can fill the spots of those characters? How do you know? If they are able to be voiced in the first place, then we know that at least someone is capable of doing it. And yes, of course Evangelion is deeper than Mario Bros. You're totally missing my point. I'm saying that whenever a game/anime is turned into a movie, the hardcore fans will always whine and complain about it. And more often than not, these conversions aren't very true to their originals. But does that mean that we should automatically dismiss any attempt to produce a live action (or CGI) adaption? Especially when such an adaption might catch the interest of more people -- people who may have never seen the series. And as for your last comment...I never said that you said that anime makes people more open minded. lol I was speaking in general terms. I was pointing out that really hardcore anime fans sometimes sneak their way into some kind of elitist group where they think they're open minded. But often, that's false (as this thread demonstrates). I mean, I'm not trying to say that a Hollywood remake is going to be amazing or that it will even work on a basic level. What I am saying is that rather than shout it down and immediately get defensive over your precious Evangelion, you should at least be open minded enough to let someone make an attempt. Seriously, EVA is good...but it's not so amazingly perfect that nobody can ever adapt it. And as for Lord of the Rings; I don't even particularly like the movies or the novel all that much. I was just pointing out that a lot of hardcore fans really loved the movies and felt that they did the novel justice. I'm not trying to say that all fans agree with that. But a majority seem to.

Well, of course, that's open to your own beliefs as always. ^_^ Still, I think Masked_Man could really have worded his post a lot more effectively. I don't understand a word of it; I only understand what this topic is about based on people's responses. I'm amazed that any of you actually understood the original post. o_O
Originally posted by Desbreko I think it's good to have a little joke every now and then, as long as it doesn't get too spammy.
So do I. You are probably the first person I've spoken to who felt that this thread didn't have an inflammatory intention. lol But that aside, I'm not exactly sure where this discussion can go. As far as Doom III goes, I believe John Carmack said that none of the current generation consoles would be able to handle the game; including Xbox. Having said that, I am not sure that I really believe it. Look at games like Quake II for PlayStation. There were a lot of people saying that you can't replicate Quake II on PlayStation, yet it was done. I don't think it's so much a question of limiting everything until the visuals look horrible. It's more a question of designing the game specifically with the platform in mind. Although, from my perspective, I'm not so sure that I really care whether or not Doom III is released on consoles. I don't play FPSs all that often and usually a FPS has to be really good for me to be interested in it. I haven't heard much about Doom III lately, other than a few basic comments. Was this game even playable at E3? I remember last year how it won game of the show, despite the fact that it was nothing but a visual demonstration. I thought that was really a shame.

It's kinda like EVA. There would probably only be a small group of ultra hardcore fans who'd post about it. Animatrix stuff can stay in Anime Lounge and movie stuff in the Music, Movies & TV forum. I think that arrangement is working okay at the moment. ^_^
-
Oh for god's sake! Will you people crawl out of your personal space bubbles for just a second? lol For one thing, we have no idea how this will turn out. I could argue that you'll never cram all of Lord of the Rings into a three hour movie but they did it -- successfully by the accounts of hardcore fans. If you shoot down the possibility that this MIGHT be done properly, then what's the point? I think that a live action EVA could be an absolutely beautiful cinematic movie! Why not at least give 'em a shot? I mean, the Mario Bros. movie was pretty stupid...but I didn't run around screaming about it like a whiny elitist. If the movie sucks, so be it. It doesn't somehow ruin Evangelion - it doesn't change Evanglion at all. If you love EVA, you'll still love EVA. C'mon people...you try to say that anime opens your mind, but you're all behaving pretty close-minded to me.

You know the ironic thing here, TVE? I was considering asking you to become a Moderator. I don't even understand the point of posting this. Is it supposed to be funny? I don't know if you're seriously trying to bash the GameCube or if you are trying to do some kind of funny spin on the anti-Nintendo rehetoric out there. Either way, this is one of the most pointless threads I have ever seen. Not to mention that fact that it demonstrates absolutely zero knowledge about the GameCube hardware (and whether or not the GCN could run Doom III in any form is pretty irrelevant anyway). I mean, at the very least you could have used this effort to create some sort of legitimate discussion. I have to say...I'm pretty disappointed in you. That's such a shame too, considering that I've always regarded you as a positive member. EDIT: Well, TVE PM'd me and explained the meaning of this thread. It seems that he was joking, it's just that he chose his wording a bit poorly. But, we all make mistakes. I'm sorry if I overreacted to this thread, but I think my interpretation of it was pretty understandable at first glance. I agreed to reopen this thread so that TVE could continue the discussion.

I hope you are not going to download Mario Kart. ~_^ Remember guys, you can come up with your own Nintendo characters (anyone I've not included here) and list them in your profiles. You can also nominate a character that is the same as someone else's, with the knowledge that only one of you will be chosen if that happens.

It will only make you more aggressive if you have a predisposition to violent tendencies; various studies have made this conclusion so far.
