Ginny, as I've mentioned in prior announcements, all of the avatars are not yet online. Adding and naming every avatar one by one is a fiddly process at best. And considering the University applications I'm going through in addition to numerous other work deadlines...my time for putting up avatars is finite to put it lightly. But don't worry, it's still on my mind. I will do it when I physically have the time.

It's alright, Syk. This one can stay open as it is our "most current" discussion on the subject.

People will only send you hate mail if you act like a newbie. So don't act like one. ~_^ We don't publish the full list of ranks and number of posts, because your rank is based on the amount of time you've spent on the boards. It's not based on your post quality or knowledge or anything like that. My recommendation is to ignore your rank entirely if you are unhappy with it. Anyone sending someone hate mail just because of their status is, put simply, stupid.

Vice City: Miami Liberty City: New York City Sin City: Las Vegas That would be my assumption, especially considering the word "sin" being used. What is the one city in the United States that is known as "sin city"? Las Vegas, of course. ~_^ Las Vegas presents a lot more in terms of gangs and stuff...much more than San Andreas, I'd think. All the casinos at night...drug dealing, prostitution and such. It seems like a much more crime-oriented setting. So it seems logical to make a game based there. As for GTA4...I'm hoping it'll be something entirely new. The "GTAIII engine", as it were, is majorly in need of an update. Other games with similarly sized environments (although not quite as large) are achieving better results in terms of visual detail. But more importantly, the control system needs some major rennovation (aiming and combat in particular) and various other issues need to be dealt with, game bugs being one of 'em. Still, I'll be interested to hear how it's all going. My guess is that Sin City is the equivalent to 1970's Las Vegas. Seems fitting, wouldn't you say?

Ahh...I think you had best read our rules before continuing. You can do so by clicking the "Rules" link at the top of the page. It's really important that you read them, so you can understand how things work around here at OtakuBoards. As far as being a Moderator...we have very strict standards when it comes to hiring new Moderators. Post quality is important and a strong knowledge of the rules is also important. Plus, as a general rule of thumb, we don't hire people to ask for the job. Usually we offer the job to members who behave very well and contribute to the community. I hope that this post clears up any misunderstandings you have about OB. I hope you enjoy the site, also.

I think we have to remember exactly what Cartoon Network is. It's not really an anime channel at all. The fact that CN even plays anime is pretty remarkable. Considering that CN is 99% recycled crap, it doesn't surprise me that it only shows a very limited supply of anime. Or at least, that it continually reruns the most popular anime. I don't think anime will truly be done justice on TV until the introduction of more "world movies" type channels and such. As it stands, if CN is your prime source for anime...then you're not in good shape.

Eh, who really cares about storyline? The stories in SA/SA2 were about the most pointless I've ever heard and they didn't really gel with past storylines in the series. In terms of story, Sonic CD was the best. It has by far the most amazing presentation (the intro and ending sequences have never been beaten by any other video game, in my view). Still, SA2 did a lot of things right that SA didn't...however, it destroyed any hope of being better overall due to the horrible robot and puzzle levels. I am not saying that SA2 was better overall; I'm just saying that Sonic/Shadows's levels were generally as good or better. But overall, the game was worse. There are hardly ANY Sonic/Shadow levels in SA2 and there are heaps of pointless robot/puzzle levels. I wish Sonic Team would get its act together.

I don't know if I can post much, but this looks like an RPG with potential. I'll give it a go (and don't worry Desbreko; I am planning to post again in Zelda: World of Ruin...but I'm having a bit of writer's block with my character. >_

I don't think the first game was better than the second in terms of the Sonic/Shadow levels. But all the other stuff sucked. The shooting and puzzle levels in SA2 were absolutely horrible. Having said that, I don't know why Sonic Team is producing SADX. Why not just move straight to SA3? I'm sure they are working on SA3...but SA:DX seems a waste of time to me. Of course, for those who never owned the first game (and only the sequel on GCN), it's probably an essential purchase.

We've had a topic just like this before. The man who lives alone exists regardless of his subjective consciousness. Every time he moves around or does something within his home, he's leaving evidence of his existence. When he sleeps, a mosquito might bite him -- if he didn't exist, that would be impossible. I understand the reason for the question...but I don't think existence is based on subjectivity.
-
The reason I didn't mention Heihachi is because he's an existing "Namco fighter" character, if you know what I mean. But with Link/Spawn/etc, the moves are 100% new apparently. I think it'd basically be pointless to have new player "skins" whilst still having the same old moves.
-
No, that shouldn't be happening. OtakuBoards is somehow very "sticky" when it comes to cookies. I don't know why exactly; but for some people this is an issue. I recommend deleting your computer's cookies if you are having difficulties. You'll need to log in again, but you'll be able to start "fresh" and hopefully see all the graphics on the site.

I will most likely update many of the post icons soon, to make them easier to understand. So there are some things that can be done to improve the "ease of use". But other than that, I don't think anything major will be changed at this point. At least, not for a while.

This is a really interesting thread. The responses by people so far have been somewhat surprising at times. For the first point, who I am in my own mind...that's really hard to answer. Having three younger siblings and an often absent father (his professional life often kept him away from family in the past), I basically became the second father to my younger siblings. Especially to my youngest sister. And when I think about it, that experience at a fairly young age is partly what makes me who I am today. It's also partly why I'm here in this job on OtakuBoards. I'm a manager, both in life and professionally. Even now, both my parents work and are often busy. So it's often my job to organize my younger siblings. I help them with their homework, I read to them and I take them out on some weekends. I think that all of that experience is reflected in the way I behave generally. You know, it's like...I like things to be organized and "efficient". I don't like to see waste or unnecessary actions. Apart from that, I generally try to be a kind person to others. Sometimes that conflicts with my work (depending on the work), because my own personal nature has to come in second place when compared to the things I have to do on a professional level. I try hard to please other people, but I do so without (hopefully) compromising my own position. I don't know what else I can really say about myself, other than that. I've had big ups and big downs in my life, but I rarely talk about those things here. Maybe after I'm an Admin (and thus, when I have no responsibility here), I can be more comfortable expressing myself on a deeper level to the community. As for how others see me, that's a difficult question to answer as well. Different people see me in different ways. On OB, because I primarily have to function in a professional way, that does mean that my personal preferences are pushed back. But that's natural, I suppose. Several incidents in the past (the kuja thing, for instance) gave me the distinct impression that a large amount of people here were putting on a nice face but thinking secretly "I just wish that guy would get out of here; I'm just being nice so that I don't get banned", or something. But then, after really getting to know a lot of members here...I realized that this isn't the case. Most people understand the difference between private and professional behavior...and I think most people know that I'm trying my best to do the right thing as much as I can. In real life (and to those who are closer to me online), I think people see me as just another person. Generally with a good sense of humor and a friendly attitude. I don't think people take any objection to me if they are just getting to know me in a "normal" way. People like kuja would probably think differently about me if they actually met me in real life. That is something I always think to myself. As for how I'd like people to see me...once again, I don't know. I think all of us would like to be seen in a positive light. And sometimes it can be hurtful (and confronting) to realize that people will dislike you (or even hate you) for their own petty reasons. Or simply for no reason at all. I've come to learn that it's part of life. It doesn't mean that I'm perfect or that I don't do the wrong thing; we all do occasionally. It just means that I've learned not to be surprised if I step on someone's toes without knowing it. And that, if my actions are taken the wrong way, there is often little I can do to change that. So, I can't dwell on what others think of me. Because I can't change an opinion about me (especially online), if I'm not actually there talking to that person every day. It's reasonable to expect that people will form false opinions of me based on one or two encounters on a professional level...but it's also reasonable to expect that if I try my hardest on all levels, most people are reasonable enough to see that effort and take it in a positive way. So yeah, I wouldn't want to presume to know what everyone thinks of me. Unless people speak honestly about it all the time, it's very hard to know unless you talk to those people often. The bottom line is that I value different opinions. Some people's opinions of me are meaningless; I don't need or want their respect or admiration. But the opinons of those who are important to me (friends or colleagues) are much more valuable to me personally.
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy Yeppers. The game doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. I'm a vain sonofagun, so I'm excited that it doesn't look as poor as I initially thought it would. The new characters make feel all warm and fuzzy too, even though they're probably going to use preexisting move sets.
But even the initial images looked as good as the original SC, which is still gorgeous by today's standards. I don't know where the visual concern came in. Secondly, we all know by now that the visuals of the game are not at all tied to the gameplay. The new characters, for example, will have entirely new sets of moves. Link even has a "bomb move". You should do a little more research, Charles. ~_^
I'm still a little skeptical when it comes to the gameplay though. If I was wrong about the visuals, maybe I'll be wrong about the mechanics and such. Maybe.
Don't be. If you enjoyed the original Soul Calibur, you will love the new one. There is no evidence or information to support the idea that gameplay hasn't improved in a substantial way. And once again, the visuals and gameplay are not tied together like that. ~_^
I agree about that tunic though. Damn Jabroni won't leave me alone about Link's private parts! >_<
That doesn't surprise me. Jabroni's fascination with the entire game will rest with Link's crotch. And I'm sure that will be the focus of discussion for those who want to bash the GCN version of the title. It's cheap and without substance. But does it surprise anyone?
Originally posted by Duo Maxwell and trust me Ausralia isn't in a good shape right now... I usually isn't.
Ahh...you must live in Ipswitch or something. Or in a bubble. Australia is paradise, my dear. ~_^ Anyway, Zidane...all I can offer you is an ear. If you need to talk about something, feel free to IM me. Sometimes just talking can get things off your chest. I'm sure we've all had times where we've felt depressed or sad and haven't really had a reason for it. Talking about it (whether on OB or elsewhere) is probably only going to help. ^_^

I'm afraid that it's not possible for me to make the older skin available. The older skin had various bugs in it; which is why this replacement skin was produced. But having said that, I do plan to produce at least one other "brighter" option in the future. Right now I can't decide whether it will be a part of v7 or a third skin for v6. If I make a third skin, it may mean that I won't produce v7 at all. It just depends how much time I have left.

I can help you with names. You're mostly right though. Zea = Tsukasa Une = Subaru Uncle = Bear (although they mostly call him Bear; Uncle is a nickname) Enhan = Ginkan Most of the place names are also wrong in the subtitles. Bleh.

You're now eating your words, Charles? Why? Because the game looks impressive? Didn't you say that your reasons for disliking it were gameplay-based? Hmm... ~_^ Anyway, I was a big fan of SC, which is saying quite a lot (I rarely buy fighting games -- I haven't been a big fan of the genre since the 16-bit days). And so, I'm looking forward to SCII. I'm definitely going to pick up the GCN version. The fact that the game is primarily targeted at GameCube as well as the fact that it should play really nicely with the GCN controller (not to mention the whole Link thing, heh) just pushes it over the edge for me. I usually only buy about one fighting game per "generation". Soul Calibur II will probably be my only purchase for the latest generation (if you exclude Dreamcast, of course)...with the exception of maybe MK: Deadly Alliance (since I was always such a huge fan of that series, until Midway destroyed my dreams with MK4). Oh, and the pair of you complaining about Link's tunic; get a life! God...a few centimeters off and the world comes crumbling down. It looks fine to me and I've been a Zelda fan since before both of you could even say "Zelda". Deal with it. :smirk:

Newbie just means that you're new. That's all. It doesn't ever imply that you're stupid or ignorant -- many of our greatest members were once newbies. They didn't suddenly grow a brain after their newbie status went away. We don't use custom titles here (for various reasons), instead we have around ten status levels that you can build up to.

Okay, I finally changed a few more things around and fixed some of the problems. I've finished the gradients on the front page...though I'm not quite sure about the orange. It matches the banner exactly in terms of the actual colour data, but I don't know if it looks quite right. I might change it if it's too jarring for people. Anyway, I've addressed most of the other issues I think. I really like the new center image -- took me three tries to get it right. ~_^ I'll add more later on, I think.
-
You'll notice that I've made "online" a cross and "offline" a straight line. I hope that fixes the problem. But if it's too much of a problem, I'll change 'em.
-
As most of you can already tell, I'm editing the site's graphics to match our new banner a little more. Since v7 is still a while away, I thought I'd provide a little facelift. As you can see, it's a bit darker...but it's not completely "black and white". So I hope it will please those who disliked the more colourful style. It probably looks more like v5, I think. o_O Anyway, I'm not yet done...I'm adding bits and pieces here and there. I hope you guys like it. And remember to thank Syk3 for the banner. ^_^

It would have to be 15+ or whatever. That's what it was here. But you're talking about The Ring. That is the American version. I'm talking about Ring/Ring 2, which are the Japanese versions. You can see both of those versions right now -- your local video store should stock 'em. They aren't hard to find and they've been available since 1998 and 1999 respectively.
