Sign Up Vampire: the Masquerade RPG. WARNING! Not for the faint of heart!
James replied to Omega Tenpus's topic in Theater
Um...RPGs that are too long can also be a problem. :) But, if you've written all this yourself and not merely copied and pasted...then I'm very impressed with your efforts. Good luck with the RPG. :) -
Originally posted by Saiya-jinro I am sane, I'm just saying that even if two countries are friends, something could happn where they start fighting again.
Of course anything could happen...but I could use that argument to say that aliens could land on Earth tomorrow so I'd better prepare. My point is, you can always argue that anything can happen. But at some point, you have to be reasonable when you make those suggestions. It would take an incredibly massive incident to provoke Germany into declaring war on the United States. lol

I don't believe that the game industry is maturing whatsoever, when it comes to sex. If anything, the depiction of sex in games is getting increasingly cheap and baseless. Just look at Fear Effect. That game contained two lesbians as the protagonists. Now, that on its own isn't what worries me. But if you look at the ads where one woman is giving the other a massage, the entire thing appears to have been created specifically for male tastes. And I think that it's just about the lowest way to gain an audience. That is why I am personally disgusted by Dave Mirra XXX; I'm not actually offended by the content, but I am so saddened that a game developer has reached new lows, in terms of trying to reel in an audience with such cheap tactics. If sex must be depicted in a game, I believe it should be in context. It's the exact same as violence. For example, take a look at a game like GTAIII. GTAIII's violence was, for the most part, in context -- it suited the character and the storyline. Even though the player is able to go off and do whatever he/she wants, the actual objectives incorporate violence as the "means to an end", so to speak. However, in games like State of Emergency, the violence was utterly pointless. And the objectives were hollow; they were put there because of the violence...rather than having the objectives come first and the violence second. I hope that makes sense. Sex in games should be the same. Games that plaster sex all over the screen for no good reason (DoA Volleyball and Dave Mirra XXX) are not welcomed by me at all. They serve no purpose and they demonstrate a clear lack of innovation and ideas on the part of the developer, not to mention a cheap ploy to lure immature gamers who may not even have a great interest in the title without the sexual content. However, if sex is portrayed in context (a kissing scene or a sex scene based on story...or strippers in a bar, where you actually have to go to the bar for an objective), I really don't mind. It's all in how the developer portrays the sex...and how it is used in the game itself.
Originally posted by AnimeLover but why fight when it won't change ANYTHING. Why have another sad, cold, war just for nothing.
As horrible as war can be, it is sometimes necessary. If the Allies don't remove Saddam Hussein from power, who will? You? Someone's got to do it. If Saddam one day launched a biological (or nuclear) attack on the United States or someone else, I'm sure we'd all be saying "Why didn't we fix the problem before it got this far?".

I would direct you to the thread "GameCube's First Online Game". In that thread, we not only discuss the specific game (PSO: Ep. 1&2), but we also discuss online gaming for GameCube in a broader sense. Feel free to post there. :)
Originally posted by Lady Katana Huh. That's very interesting, James, to me anyway. I did not know that. Anyway, back on topic, maybe you can get him one of those digeridoo(sp?) things I've heard about. And no, I didn't hear it off the Simpsons before anyone tries to make a snide remark, at least not the first time.
That would be a good gift...especially since many are hand painted and look very cool. :) By the way, do you like the Shine Get siggy? ;)
Originally posted by Final_Flash Why is the Australian $2 Coin smaller than the $1 coin? That's just stupid.
Well, it's smaller but thicker and heavier... It's like that for those who are blind. Every note and coin is a different shape/size...so that you can feel exactly what money you are carrying without looking. And each note is brightly coloured ($5 is purple, $10 is blue, $50 is yellow and $100 is green) for those with poor eyesight. ;) Just thought I'd throw in some useless trivia. Hehe.

Hey hey...slow down there. ;) One RPG at a time, eh? I think you need to look at some of the bigger RPGs around here to get a feel for plot development. You've put more effort into this one than the Zelda one...so I'm going to ask you to choose which one you want to keep. Try working on one RPG and developing it well...and then you can slowly build up and create more. :)

Hm...well, I used to religiously read those Sonic the Hedgehog comics years ago...you know the ones (with the princess and that idiot french guy...). I also had a special edition copy (Sonic vs Metal Sonic)...with a shiny silver cover...and guess what? My little sister poured white out all over it... I only bought a few more comics after that. :(
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy When Microsoft first entered the console war they claimed that they were doing so with the pure interest in gaming. Essentially they were creating a gaming machine for gamers. Xbox live would certainly cater to the gamers, but wouldn't the Homestation be breaching Microsoft's original promise? The entire premise of the Homestation is to combine the capabilities of a Microsoft Ultimate TV, Windows Media player, a Microsoft Xbox, and a Microsoft WebTV. If this digital media hub were released with the intention of replacing multiple devices, I feel that Microsoft would be contradicting themselves. Oh well.
Microsoft's PR rhetoric and what it actually does are two very different things. Even though the legitimacy of the Xbox as a game console is arguable, I think we all agree that it is essentially a gaming machine at its core. Having said that, it is most definitely the precursor to HomeStation, as I've been saying. Microsoft understands that video games are a way of introducing non-gaming services into the lounge room. It's a clever approach, if you consider the success of the game industry as well as the fact that games are probably the number one entertainment medium "in the lounge". Still, it remains to be seen how successful the HomeStation can be, given the relative underperformance of Xbox so far.

Name: Jeh & Blub (Blub is Jeh's Wigglepuff...like a small puppy) Place of Origin: Shibbidy-Dibbidy-Boo Weapon: Mod Rod (he found it in the woods one day, whilst going on a mushroom picking trip -- it's either a Mod Rod or wild boar poop...those wild mushrooms can make one hallucinate rather severely) Trade: Habbi-dachery - the trade of Moogle underwear. In some cases, Jeh can use bra straps as secondary weapons. Age: 850. He's been spending most of his life "enjoying" the mushrooms surrounding his house. Bio: When not experiencing a vacation to rainbow country, Jeh is involved in the selling of Moogle underwear. Moogles, like everyone, require underwear. What else is there to say? Not much.

As far as coins goes, I know that ten red coins equals a shine...and I think five blue coins equals a shine as well. The thing is, you don't need to get them all from one level...you can get them from multiple levels (so, 4 from level 1 and 2 from level 3, for example). Furthermore, I have some interesting information regarding the game's difficulty from Gamers.com: Gamers.com
As you might be aware, Famitsu Cube gave Mario 10/10/8/8. The two 8s were apparently because the second half of the game is too hard. Frustratingly hard, even. I didn?t think about it too much at the time (who knows, they might have been really awful gamers), but now I?m starting to think about it a bit. Because the game is getting hard. Very hard. First off, calm down ? there?s been nothing extraordinarily hard, or unfair, just yet. And the difficulty has ramped up in a fairly smooth manner. But the fact is? it started pretty high in the first place. The game is a lot harder than Mario 64, and I like it for that. But if I?m only ? presumably ? at best a third of the way in, how hard will this game get by the end? Will it get too hard, as Famitsu have suggested? Food for thought.
Very interesting indeed. I for one am VERY happy that this game is tougher than Mario 64. Mario 64 wasn't the easiest platformer on earth...but some of the older 2D Mario games got damn hard in certain places. And I really welcome this increase in difficulty. I think most old school gamers would say that newer games are getting too easy. And in some ways, Mario 64 held the gamer's hand a little more than previous games in the series. So, I'm very glad that Super Mario Sunshine is breaking that mould and attempting to go back to the series' roots...in terms of higher difficulty and challenge.

GhostofSalvatore, who are you responding to? Anyway, the next MGS will be Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance. And it will allow players to control Snake throughout the entire game. It'll also add a few new modes and some significant changes/improvements to the main game. It should be the game that MGS2 detractors will actually like...

If the game was ALL Snake...we wouldn't be able to see Snake from someone else's perspective. I felt that Raiden needed a bit of his own character development. I mean, he was there as a way of showing us Snake from another view...so really, the game was still all about Snake. Having said that, I'd have liked to see more of Raiden...I mean, learn more about his history and his personality. And end that stupid love story that was going on in the background...ugh...that kind of ruined some of the story, I think.
Originally posted by Parabola- Transtic Nerve, I was referring to the media, which is mostly owned by Jews, who hate Arabs and Muslims, who also say negative stuff about them. That's why when it comes to terrorism in the news, you only hear it from ONE side.
While I do agree that 90% of American media is heavily biased in favour of Israel (which does misrepresent the reality of the situation), I'm very reluctant to say something like "Jews hate Arabs and Muslims". It's something nobody can lay claim to. Just as you should never have said that all Americans are ignorant (because I know many very intelligent and "worldly" American people whom I admire greatly), you should also not assume that all Jews hate Arabs and Muslims. If we're going to have a serious debate about terrorism (from all sides), then let us try and lower the personal, emotional rhetoric here. Let's try and understand that others have feelings and that there are differing points of view. Let's also try and understand that we can't make generalizations that are unfair, without having any real data to support it.

Well, for those interested...it appears that there are about 12 levels with 10 Shines in each level. So we're looking at about 120 Shines...similar to the previous Mario 64, but this time, the game is apparently significantly harder (and the levels are several times bigger). I can't wait. :) It really sounds like this game is injecting some much needed challenge...

You could buy him one of the following... 1) An authentic Aboriginal boomerang (some of them are really beautiful) 2) Some sort of HSV clothing (good quality...Australian icon that isn't as lame as the "traditional" stuff) 3) Some sort of Rip Curl/Billabong/Quiksilver etc clothing (Once again...it's a 100% Australian icon and isn't as lame as the traditional stuff that people buy) 4) Money (I think money is a pretty cool keepsake...especially since our money just looks so modern. ;)) 5) A cork hat. (No, I'm joking there). ;)

If you could be eneyone on Otaku Boards, who would you be?

Yeah, it won't be long 'till I've been here for about two years (possibly even more, when you consider theOtaku.com itself). How fast time flies... -
Name: David North Age: 25 Character Name: Maverick Super Power: Like other members of the Weapon X project team, Maverick's DNA contains an age-suppression factor. He also possesses the ability to absorb kinetic impacts without harm to himself. Whereas previously Maverick simply stored absorbed kinetic energy within his body, his powers mutated following his infection with the Legacy Virus. Maverick now must release the energy he absorbs when it reaches a certain level. He channels it through his hands, creating concussive bolts of force. Occupation: Special operative for the German and U.S. governments at the time of his apparent death; former German freedom fighter and agent of Weapon X Weapons: Maverick wears armor of unknown composition; he can activate shields that seal exposed areas of his body within his battlesuit for protection. Weaponry includes thermite bombs, a hydraulic bolt gun and armor-piercing bullets. Biography: A mercenary and former German freedom fighter, Maverick served as a special operative for the Central Intelligence Agency on a team that included the feral X-Man called Wolverine and the savage sociopath known as Sabretooth. All three were products of the mysterious Weapon X program -- a government-sponsored initiative established to breed the ultimate squad of super-soldiers. In addition, the Weapon X scientists implanted false memories in their subjects for reasons that remain unclear. More recently, Maverick was afflicted with the lethal mutant plague known as the Legacy Virus. Wolverine refused to kill his longtime ally to spare him from the debilitating effects of the infection's final stages. Maverick "died" with the mutant telepath Elena Ivanova at his side. But Ivanova performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and used her psionic powers to tap into Maverick's mind and coax him back to life. The process proved exceptionally effective: When she revived Maverick, she also brought back his lost powers. In fact, they returned with such great force that the explosion sent Ivanova flying across the room. Fortunately, she was not harmed, and Maverick's Legacy Virus went into remission. Presumably, he was cured when the steel-skinned X-Man called Colossus sacrificed his life to disperse an antidote into Earth's atmosphere. Maverick later learned that his powers had mutated. While still able to absorb kinetic impacts, his body now needed to release the stored energy. He discovered that he could channel the energy through his hands, or deliver a devastating punch with 10 times the force of a normal blow. In a climactic confrontation with agents of longtime nemesis Ivan Pushkin, Maverick lost his left eye and was pushed from an airplane. Sometime after surviving a hard landing on a mountain peak in the Swiss Alps, Maverick was targeted for recruitment into a newly revivified, government-sanctioned Weapon X program. Resisting Sabretooth's entreaties, he engaged the mutant murder machine in a bloody brawl atop a downtown high-rise that ended only when Maverick was thrown from the building to his apparent death on the street below. The limits of his ability to absorb kinetic impacts have not been clearly defined, but it is known that he narrowly survived a previous 10-story fall. Description: Height: 6;3"; Weight: 230 lbs.; Eye Color: Blue; Hair Color; Brown Personality: Despite his age, David is a battle-hardened fighter. He understands the ways of the world and doesn't take crap from anyone. And despite his somewhat harsh exterior, he is also an understanding person. He helps those in need when he can, but goes out of his way for nobody but close friends. His most significant attribute is his fighting capability.

Rasanak touched the thumbpad on the dashboard of the vehicle. It emitted a soft green glow and within seconds, the engine started. It whirred quietly (and was almost inaudible) under the hood. The sleek black car pulled out of the Rent-A-Car carpark and began making its way toward the VK-1, the large highway that stretched from the east of Vin Kartia directly to Sky Hockey Island. As Rasanak drove, Luca was examining the weapons they'd purchased. First, he picked up what looked like a long, suede bag. As he opened one end, he saw a sharp metallic arrowhead. Rasanak: Hey! Careful, Luca... Rasanak pointed at the spear's sharp blade. Rasanak: Sharpest blade you'll ever find. It's got some cool attacks equipped...and a really unique lightning ability. Luca smiled. Rasanak was always very excited when talking about weaponry. He carefully slid the spear back into its pouch and pulled out a second pouch that looked somewhat similar. Inside was his own weapon; an Elemental Staff. It was wired to his own DNA and was capable of utilizing various elemental attacks. Hume had forgotten the art of magic many centuries ago...but technology had always made up for that lack of magical knowledge. Luca carefully put both weapons on the car's back seat. Then he turned around and watched the road ahead. The scenery on this particular section of the highway was beautiful. There were large tropical trees, exclusive to Verdun, which formed an archway over much of the highway. And beyond the trees, Luca could see the calm, blue ocean. Luca reached down and pushed a button on the door. As he did so, the window silently dissappeared. He leaned against the door a little, letting the cool evening breeze ruffle his hair. Two hours later and the pair were still travelling along the highway. But now, many of the trees had cleared and Luca could see the expansive beach nearby. In the distance, he could see Vanar Island. Vanar Island was full of large mineral mines. Many of the working class Hume lived on the island. However, the southern half of the island was a center for tourism. It was a peaceful, quiet place. But not tonight, it seemed... Luca could hear a distant rumble. It was very quiet; though he could also feel a slight vibration from within the car. Luca: Rasanak...do you feel that? Rasanak shook his head. Rasanak: No...what? Luca reached into the glove box and pulled out a pair of complementary binoculars; every Rent-A-Car customer was given a pair for sight seeing. He adjusted the sight carefully, making sure to zoom in on Vanar Island's coastline. And what he saw, he couldn't explain... Several enormous, black objects were emerging from the ocean. There must have been six or seven of them, by Luca's count. He continued watching intently, hoping to catch a better glimpse of the strange objects. As they began to rise from the water, he could see them more clearly. They appeared to be vehicles of some kind. Their undersides were raised slightly off the ground, with large wheels underneath. Luca raised the binoculars a little further and saw another group of the very same vehicles further up on the beach. The vehicles had stopped and didn't seem to be moving at all. However, within moments, the first few vehicles on the beach began to open up... Luca: Oh... The top half of the vehicles began to rise up on a series of hydraulic struts. And now, the top half of the vehicles were sitting at a 90 degree angle to the underside. It appeared as though there was something emerging from inside the vehicles themselves. As Luca zoomed in a little further, he saw it; a series of large, metallic objects was emerging from within the hull of the various machines. The objects looked somewhat like the tip of Rasanak's spear...they tapered off into sharp points at the ends... Luca: Missiles... Rasanak: Luca? What's going on out there? Luca: I thought all this talk of higher security was a joke...but Rasanak...I can see them... Rasanak: See what?! Luca: Missle Carriers! They're forming on Vanar Island's beach! Something is going on here...we MUST get to that Sky Hockey game as soon as we can! We have to get the Chancellor and get outta here... Rasanak nodded and stepped on the accelerator. Their black car sped along the highway; a highway that was sitting behind a silhouette of black war machines...
