Originally posted by The Harlequin I asked if you would consider mental illness incurable. If someone is depressed, and it cannot be cured, do you think other people really have a right to decide that "No, that person doesn't want to die, we won't let them, they're just crazy". When it comes to mental illness, most people are uninformed bigots.
I never said that, though. So you're preaching to the choir when it comes to this point. :) And yes I agree, when it comes to mental illness, most people are pretty uninformed. :)

Hm, actually, I think I'm going to close this for now. I'm not really satisfied with it (that's what you get for starting something on impulse)...I don't think Mario has a deep enough story to really hold my interest in an RPG-type thing. But not to worry...I might start something else soon. ^_^

Proteus silently made his way to the back of the room. Proteus: This time, I'm not going to make the same mistake... He approached one of the wall terminals and stood still. He closed his eyes and as he did so, his chest plate folded open with a soft whirring sound. Underneath the chest plate was a small USB dataport, which allowed him to connect various devices to his body. In the last battle, Proteus had tried to download weapon programs remotely, but he wasn't able to connect to HQ. This time, he wanted to try something different: he would take a Data Cube with him, so that he could automatically process weapon programs without needing to remotely link to HQ. Proteus typed on the terminal for a moment, bringing up various schematics for the various models of Data Cube available. He selected one (which included some 90 individual weapons programs) and pressed "Return". A small port on the terminal opened and ejected a little cube with a USB plug on one of its sides. Proteus took the cube and plugged it directly into the dataport underneath his chest plate. He closed his chest plate carefully. Zero: You okay? Proteus: Yeah...I'm fine...don't worry, this time everything will be alright. Zero: You're not still blaming yourself for Flash's death, are you? Proteus: ... Zero sighed and put his hand on Proteus' shoulder. Zero: We're all in this together. Don't worry. :) Proteus smiled weakly. Even though Zero was effectively Flash's "replacement", it didn't feel right to him. Of course, Proteus didn't know as much about Zero as the others and thus, he had no reason to automatically dislike him. And it seemed to Proteus that Zero was truly attempting to forge a friendship with the group. Nevertheless, Proteus knew that he didn't want the group to suffer a second loss...even if it was the loss of someone which some elements of the group didn't particularly like. Proteus was now ready for battle. He felt confident this time, but little did he know, the Data Cube he had taken was a newer model and was slightly malfunctional...

LOL...Seph, this is the second time you've done this! Quit spammin' (~_^)
Originally posted by cloricus Yes James you know every thing, I though I would be smarter and have my own opinion, but I again seem to be wrong. I'm also sure you have experienced every thing to do with this situation.
No need to be sarcastic and rude. I'm not saying that I've experienced more with this situation than you, I'm just saying that it's pointless to start assuming what people have and haven't experienced. But if you must know, my uncle on my dad's side committed suicide less than a year ago. I don't really think I need to get into detail, but the point is...no matter how much you think you know someone, there are always some surprises. And some members here know more about me than others... Nevertheless, I think it's important to point out that your experiences on a subject can really alter your perception and give you a better understanding. Anyway...I don't even know how we got sidetracked there...euthanasia really isn't the same as the general suicide that you see most of the time. I think most people here are in agreement though -- the person who wants to undergo euthanasia should be completely able to make up their mind logically...and they need to be in a terminally ill situation; where medical science will not be able to save them. Of course, that rules out 95% of cases...but for that 5%, I think it's a worthwhile thing to consider.

You still haven't seen the video, Seph?! You must! Go to the E3 site and download it before Nintendo shut the site down (the E3 site is only up temporarily). ;)
-
Yeah, I don't think anyone is saying that it's a perfect solution. Any solution can have its problems. But in a very small minority of cases, euthanasia is a very humane option. People love to blow it out of porportion and indicate that it would open the door for a lot of other problems. But in reality, if it were very strictly legislated, it could be done. I mean, in my view, only those who are in great pain (which medicine can't remove) and who are dying from uncurable illness...and who are also sound of mind, so that they can decide their fate...those are the only circumstances where it would be acceptable. In any other circumstance, it's just too risky.
Originally posted by Heaven's Cloud My awnser to that question would be no. If a person has a desire to commit suicide they obviously have a severe emotional problem that they need to deal with. Therefore, if someone aides a person in the act of suicide they are commiting murder, because they are killing someone who does not have full mental and emotional capabilities.
Exactly. :) There is a big difference between assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Originally posted by cloricus I will post my reply when I get home. But I believe I know more on the subject than you. I can't put any thing now.
Keyword here is "believe". Thus, you don't really know what experience, if any, I have on this subject. You should never presume what I do and do not know, because based on what you've said, I believe that I infact have more experience on the subject. You'd be surprised at what people know about certain issues, regardless of how much you think you understand.

It's not really about suicide as such though. Euthanasia was originally created with the view of ending terminally ill patients' suffering... I wouldn't think euthanasia should be authorized for people who just "want to commit suicide for whatever reason". Originally posted by Cloricus:
That is not true. You normally know what your talking about but that is wrong.
It's convenient to just say "you're wrong" without reasons, isn't it? But actually, I'm right. Suicide is a selfish act and is often committed by people who are unable (for whatever reason) to deal with situations in their life. But often, these people don't take into account the effects on their family and friends. People need to think more carefully about how their actions affect others -- I have very little sympathy for those who commit suicide. I have much more sympathy for their families who are devistated by it.
-
I agree with DBZChikaGhan on this one. Most people commit suicide for pretty foolish reasons. But if you are terminally ill...with no chance of ever improving and you are in constant pain (with only palliative care), then yes...you should most certainly have the right to end your own suffering. If I am standing in a hospital ward with someone who is undergoing unbearable pain and if I know that that pain will never end...and they are dying a slow death...I wouldn't have the heart to tell them "sorry, you're not allowed to undergo euthanasia".
Originally posted by Jabroni3:16 The game looks awesome, no better than awesome. And probably plays like a dream also. The Cel-Shading is the best of any other cel-shaded game.
Agreed. When Miyamoto said "don't judge this game by screenshots", he was definitely correct. The trailer looks utterly beautiful. Even now, I don't think I've seen a more beautiful game for console or PC. Realism is something that everyone can strive for -- but the result is always the same. It's nice to see a game which is truly a fantasy...and which really captures the mood and feeling of the Zelda series. The new Link actually looks like the mischevious little boy that he really is...nobody is trying to make him more "hip" just to serve the non-gamer audiences. And I respect that; I'm glad that Mr. Miyamoto decided to bring Zelda back to its roots in terms of design. When I see this game, it makes me remember the time when I first played Zelda on NES...it's a very warm feeling. :)
Originally posted by KabukiOwari On the new zelda game for game cube...what the hell is up with link.... he has gotta be the gayest videogame character i have ever seen....
How old are you? 10? Based on your horrible post quality as well as the fact that you use the word "gayest"...I can only determine that you simply can't be over the age of 10. In any case, you know what pisses me off the most about the new Zelda? It's the people who think Ocarina of Time was the first Zelda game. People who are a little older (or who have played NES/SNES versions of Zelda) should be pleased that the new Zelda goes back to its roots, whilst also maintaining a next generation visual flair. Whether you like the style or not is irrelevant -- I challenge you to watch the trailer and not be impressed by the complex cel-shading and animation techniques...if you can't be impressed by that, then you've lost all credibility when it comes to gaming. :)
Originally posted by Sephiroth I have one question though, one would be how would samus be able to roll into a ball in first person view? surely you will be able to see anything with her visor?
When she rolls into a ball, the camera pulls back into third person view. You should watch the trailer -- the shots are nothing compared to seeing this game moving.
Originally posted by KabukiOwari "Fighting is for the weak minded."said by TN u cant avoid fighting all ur life.....sooner or later all the anger that is built up inside will just explode and you will go off on people for no reason or you will get so mad at one person then BAM!?....so if u say that than u are the weak minded one because u dont kno how life and people are!
Ugh, the dreaded "text code"! -_- Physical fighting is for the weak minded. People get into fist fights because they're too immature (or stupid) to solve problems like real adults -- by talking things through and working out a solution. There are ways of releasing anger without fighting with other people...you could play a violent game or you could hit a punching bag...either way, it can be done without the need to hurt an actual person. Either way...you can avoid initiating a fight all your life. You seem to be suggesting that you need to just "start fighting" in order to release that anger...but that's not the way to do it and it will only get you in major trouble one day. I think you should take a martial arts course...if you do, you'll find that fighting is actually the last method for self defence. It pays to think before you act. ;)
Originally posted by *-- RagnaroK--* To be honest im not sure about ff11, i just saw the slot for the online thingy on the GC, and made an assumption, ill look into it though and will proove you wrong!! As for ff10, i am positive, ive seen shots and everything. Too bad it will arrive here later than the ps2 version!
Neither FFXI or FFX are coming to GameCube. GameCube will get its own exclusive version of Final Fantasy, which will connect to a GBA version. :)
Originally posted by Son Goten Good. I hate XBox. I hope Xbox bombs worse than Dreamcast. :p
The Xbox might not be doing so well, but I think your post is pretty rude to those who have already purchased an Xbox. Remember, if you had shelled out so much money for a console, you'd want to see some good games on it. Xbox owners have had to suffer through some pretty poor games already, but I'm sure that they don't want the system to bomb...if anything, some of the newer games announced at E3 look promising. Let's try and keep the petty console-rivalries out of the forums, shall we?
Originally posted by AlmightySSJ4 I know I'm not in this RPG, but I have a few questions. First of all, in the logo, how come it shows an Old Republic cruiser? And second, I thought Byss was destroyed when the Eye of Palpatine battlemoon crashed into it. Please explain.
Because the New Republic has just been formed recently...and thus, most of the ships are merely old ships that have been repaired. It fits very well within the context of what this story is about. As far as Byss goes -- I'm referring to movie history and not "expanded universe" history. Thus, any EU stuff is irrelevant here. Let's not keep interrupting the story though...:)

BabyGirl: The Supreme Chancellor can be whoever you want. I haven't thought of a name, so maybe you can be creative. ;)

I think this argument is kind of fizzling out... I'm seeing a lot of silly stuff here too. I mean, I personally love America a lot...and I love my own country too. It's not an Australia vs America thing...or anything like that. As long as we recognize that every country has its faults, then I think that's the most important thing. :)

I want to see Ganon in the new Zelda...and I want to see him as his moblin-like self (the way he TRULY looks). That would be incredibly cool. :)

The Sith Infiltrator sat on the reddish sand of Byss, just outside a large cave complex. A soft red light was eminating from the mouth of the cave, where voices could be heard inside. Two dark figures stood next to one another. One was slightly shorter and more frail; he stood, hunched over slightly, gripping a walking stick in his left hand. Standing next to him was a taller figure, wearing a long, black cloak and a hood which covered his face in shadow. The small figure turned to the taller one... Palpatine: I hope all is going well, Sune... Vin-Mar: I have already acquired several targets on Coruscant. But master, do you think they will easily bend to our wishes? Palpatine: The New Republic's position is precarious at best. They are still as full of corruption as they ever were. Politicians are the weakest form of life... Palpatine made his way slowly across the room and sat down in a tall-backed black chair. His eyes were glowing softly from underneath his black hood. Palpatine: I am aware that the New Republic has in its posession a powerful starship... Vin-Mar: Yes, master...a Super Star Destroyer from the graveyard on Tatooine. Palpatine: Indeed. Quite a strange move for the New Republic to make, especially given the fact that the new Supreme Chancellor is not the most backboned man in the galaxy... Vin-Mar: Ahh yes, but the New Republic was formed from remnants of the Rebel Alliance...they were a brave group of people... Palpatine: They mananged to win only through luck. The force was on their side. But no more... Vin-Mar: What are your plans, master? Palpatine stood up and paced back and forth thoughtfully. Palpatine: I believe that there are many senators within the New Republic who are afraid. I can sense their fear... Vin-Mar: Afraid? Palpatine: Yes. There are still many Imperial factions remaining in the galaxy. The New Republic still does not have complete control... Palpatine eyed Vin-Mar and continued to pace. Palpatine: And that is precisely how we shall rise again, my apprentice. The Jedi are still weak and vulnerable. They can feel a dark presence, but now they are too preoccupied with the reconstruction of the Galactic Republic. They do not understand their feelings; they do not realize that what they feel is actually the presence of the dark side of the force... Vin-Mar: We can use that to our advantage... Palpatine: Indeed. Their politicians are so busy giving speeches and worrying about elections that they have no time to see that they are being swayed by dark forces. I wish to travel to Coruscant, Vin-Mar. I wish to be there to cast doubt in their minds... Vin-Mar: Isn't that risky, master? Palpatine: No. They will not catch me. They are not even looking for me. I will continue to fuel the corruption in the senate and then you, my apprentice, will step in and provide some truly solid political leadership. All in preparation for something on a much wider scale...

Erm, Bowser can be on Mario's side...sure...as this is Mario's vacation. The rules of the Mushroom Kingdom don't necessarily apply ;)
