Desbreko: One of IGN's staff mentioned that while exploring the very first environment...he spent 90% of his time just exploring... Of course he came across enemies along the way, but he found that the deeper he dug...the more could be found. In fact, he discovered that a small opening in one of the ventilation shafts could actually be pulled open...and Samus could actually crawl around inside to go to a completely new area of the level. This is nothing but a Metroid game and nowhere near a FPS. Metroid fans should be happy. :)

Indeed it's sad that Mr. Yamauchi is finally leaving Nintendo, after more than half a century of running the company. But Mr. Iwata is a very worthy successor. He understands Nintendo from the ground up and he's very much involved with Nintendo's development operations. He was a great choice. :)

Um..you should probably know something about Mario Sunshine when you sign up. Waluigi isn't in the game at all...the villain is unknown at this point. You can still be a bad guy though. Special item refers more to a weapon. Luigi's is a vacuum, Mario's is the water cannon...you could have some sort of Mario-themed weapon.

In the first level with Sonic (the level where the truck chases you), you actually see Big the Cat on the right hand side of the screen...while the truck is chasing you. You only see him momentarily -- he's a big blue cat...he was in Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast. When the truck starts chasing you, just keep looking to the right...and you'll see him. ;)

I'd buy an incredibly powerful/expensive server for my new site. lol As it stands, I don't have the money for a host. -_- -
(I decided to go with something completely different here...lol...a lighthearted Mario RPG. ;) I have no idea how it will turn out...I'm kind of creating it on an impulse...so we'll see how it goes. Bear in mind though...I want it to be lighthearted and a little funny, but not overly silly or anything. That's why I'm going to pick who enters the RPG. :) Sign up if you dare! Eheh. On a tropical island, far from the Mushroom Kingdom, among a people enchanted by sunshine...Mario has taken a break from the hopping, the bopping and saving the princess, to take a well-deserved vacation. Or so he thinks. But something is "a-muck" in paradise. Someone has been painting the local village with mud, wearing a Mario suit at the same time, in order to frame Mario. But who would do such a thing? Mario must join with his friends and find the culprit, while also saving the island from ruin... Select Character: (Only one character may be selected. I've already chosen Mario [as the RPG starter], but other characters can also be used. Each character must have at least one item [Mario uses his water-spurting backpack], so preferably, your character must have some sort of device which suits him/her. Please make the device relevant to the character [ie: Yoshi/eggs, Luigi/vacuum cleaner]. You may select any character from the Mario games) Items: (Your character may posess up to five items. These items should be Mario-related, even if they are only loosely related) Special Moves: (Your character can have up to three special moves. The moves should be based upon the character's general abilities or the character's "device") Alliance: (You can be either on Mario's side...neutral [most villagers would be neutral, as well as some other characters], or you can be a baddie. Baddies can be villagers or any other "bad" Mario character) I realize that not everyone is necessarily familiar with Super Mario Sunshine, so I suggest that you visit this link to read impressions from Planet GameCube. As always, I'll post my sign up a little later. :)
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy Thus, it is appropriate to deem it a first person shooter. It's just a little more flexible.
Not at all, I think you're missing the point. Just because the game is in a first person perspective, it shouldn't necessarily be classed as a FPS title. At this point, it's too early to say exactly how much jumping action there is -- but much of the game requires Samus to roll into a ball and physically move around the environment (in a third person perspective). Labeling this game a first person shooter is a gross misrepesentation of what this game is about -- if you play it expecting a FPS, you'll find something quite different. As I mentioned, it's more of a "first person Zelda" than anything -- it bears more of a relationship with a game like Zelda, than with a game like Quake, for example.

People are usually honest with me (unless they're some butt-kissing yes man lol)...which has its good and bad points. Usually people are quite happy to tell me that OtakuBoards looks horrible or something like that...but I have come to realize that you just can't please everyone. So as long as the criticism is constructive (ie: telling you how to improve)...and not "thez boardz r horrible! u suk!"...then it can be completely fine. :)

In fact, from what I've read, they haven't said anything about it. I suspect that we'll see something of Final Fantasy either at Nintendo Space World 2002, or at Tokyo Game Show in October. As for Resident Evil 0, I'll make a thread about that too...I'll make a few more E3 game related threads with specific info so that you have one place to read it all. :)

Well yeah, this game has no two player mode...but it is a Metroid game, just in a first person perspective. That's why it's inaccurate to label it as a first person shooter. When you play it, you will notice that it feels very different to any FPS games. It literally is a Metroid game in the first person. The ability to strafe, flip and jump sideways when you target is really welcome as well...it should add a lot to the feeling of actually being "in" the game.

I recommend that you stretch to full screen (or at least stretch your window wider) to view this thread, as the images are fairly large in size. :) Rather than dig up the old Metroid thread, I thought I'd create another one...with info direct from E3. A lot has been revealed with regard to Metroid at this year's show. Not only has Metroid already been labeled "game of the show" by many, but some (including Steven Kent of MSNBC -- a major game journalist), are already saying that Metroid Prime could be "game of the generation". Retro Studios and NCL (Nintendo Company Limited) have been able to shrug off the doubters -- people who looked at Retro's numerous "mass firings" of last year -- and they have been able to deliver a truly outstanding game. The E3 build is the most complete yet and is also the first playable demonstration. So, I know you're eager to know more...let me break down some of the latest information for you. :) Impressions from Planet GameCube:
For a game that has gone through as much turmoil as Metroid Prime, the nearly finished product is absolutely amazing. The control is spot on, using every button to some degree. The D-Pad changes Visor modes, and the C-Stick switches weapon modes. The Scanning Visor is very cool, allowing you to use the power of Samus? suit to analyze the environment, computers, enemies, just about anything. Scanning becomes very important as you progress, helping you disable missile turrets remotely, finding weaknesses is bosses, activating locked doors, etc.
The visor modes are really one of the most fundamental aspects of the game. You are able to "scan" almost everything, which brings up various holographic displays in your visor. You can read all sorts of information on different objects and creatures. Moreover, you can actually access long-dead computer records (as the game starts on a derelict spaceship) and actually read the documents on computers. Amazing, eh? ;) Impressions from Planet GameCube:
While Metroid fans have railed on the first-person nature of the game, it?s truly remarkable (and likely a testament to EAD?s involvement in the development) that the game has managed to recapture so much of the mystique of the series. Bombs launch Samus? ball form into the air, allowing her to reach higher places, the grappling beam launches her across gaps (very fun with that first-person perspective, you feel like you?re flying), shooting to open doors.
Once again, many Metroid purists complained about the first person perspective. But Retro has been able to implement it very well, maintaining the core aesthetic and atmospheric aspects of the series. Impressions from Planet GameCube:
But this game?s crowning achievement is the incredible detail in the game?s art and atmosphere, and specifically, in regards to the Visor. Samus? face can be seen through the Visor in cut-scenes, her eyes are reflected briefly with bright flashes of light, goo from enemies splatters onto it and drips down (while you?re fighting!), it fogs up in hot areas, with condensation drops running down it ?
Once again, a testament to the game's aesthetic design. Steven Kent of MSNBC even said that Hollywood could learn much from the creature/set designs in Metroid Prime. Impressions from Planet GameCube:
Having finished the demo, I can easily say that this game is going to be a must-buy for Metroid fans, and probably everyone else as well. It?s that good. Hell, good is a vast understatement. The game is an achievement and quite the rookie effort for Retro Studios. And if you just can?t accept the first-person view in this game, you can always get Metroid Fusion for your Samus fix.
A happy gamer. :) Metroid Fusion is of course the all-new GBA Metroid game. One thing that I found especially interesting about Metroid Prime is the controls. Here's a basic rundown: Impressions from Planet GameCube:
We had heard prior to the show that strafing wasn?t possible in the current Metroid Prime burn, but that turned out to be completely false. Just hold down the L trigger and you can strafe left and right with the control stick. L also locks on to a target if one is near (available targets depend on which visor mode you?re in). Holding R causes Samus to bring her left hand up to steady the right arm blaster, and it hold her in place so you can use the control stick to aim. This works exactly like the aiming in Goldeneye 007, and since you generally use the mode to aim up or down, having her hand stabilize the arm immediately evokes the Metroid series. Tapping A will fire a standard shot, and in one of the tweaks that separates the game so much from other FPS?s, you have infinite shots of all your main weapons. This takes the focus off ammo management and puts it onto smart, quick targeting and evasion. You can also hold A to charge up a shot (again, for free), and any type of beam can be charged. Hitting Y once will enable missiles, which are of course expendable, and hitting Y again will fire one. I also learned that you can charge up a regular beam shot, then press Y instead of letting off A to shoot a special shot. It?s very slow to fire and appears to use up more than one missile per use, but the effects are extremely powerful and cool. Using the Ice Beam?s super shot covers the enemy and the surrounding environment in ice, whereas normally just the enemy itself is frozen. By the way, enemies can now die while being frozen, so attacking with the Ice Beam doesn?t necessarily translate to twice as many shots to kill each enemy. B jumps. Yes, B jumps. I wasn?t sure if Samus would even be able to jump, but sure enough, it?s as simple as tapping B and works exactly like jumping in Turok?though the E3 demo thankfully doesn?t exhibit any signs of having Turok?s infamously frustrating jumping challenges. So far jumping is just a quick way to get up ledges; you can also bomb up to them. Pressing X will make Samus morph into the ?Morphball? and the camera to pull out into a third-person view. At that point, you can roll around freely and set bombs with A. Bombs are infinite in keeping with the series, but no more than three can be out at a time; a simple graphic in the upper-right corner indicates how many more bombs you can set before the previous ones go off. The D-pad switches among Samus?s visor modes, and if the demo is any indication, you?ll be using that feature a lot. The currently available visor modes are Combat, which is the default one in which you can shoot at enemies, and Scan, which lets you examine objects, switches, etc. and also lets you look for enemy weakpoints. If you try shooting while in Scan mode, the Combat mode will automatically return, although you won?t be able to actually fire until it?s fully engaged. I?d say the lag is about one second; nothing major, but if you anticipate trouble, you can react much more quickly if you?re already in Combat mode. A graphic in the lower-right corner of the screen shows a map of Samus?s visor modes and which direction on the D-pad you need to press to activate each one. On the other side of the controller, the C-stick switches among Samus?s weapons (which are all just different modes of her arm blaster). Switching takes maybe two seconds, so you don?t want to do it in the heat of combat if possible. The available weapons in the demo are the Power Beam, which is the standard shot that Samus has always had as default, and the Ice Beam, which should be pretty self-explanatory. The weapons also have a map for easy reference, this one in the lower-right corner of the screen.
As you can see, the controls are certainly unique. The game has been described as a "first person Zelda" when it comes to fighting. While this may sound strange, the general consensus so far is that it's genius. It works very well within the context of this game. The controls also further underline the fact that the game is not a first person shooter, but rather a "first person adventure". The emphasis is definitely on exploration and adventure, rather than simple firefights. To finish off this post...here is some more eyecandy from E3. :)
Originally posted by Shadow Night Sorry this may not be right but I remember reading issue three of CUBE magazine and the fur effect was in the screenshots. And the caption underneath was about how this effect so far only appeared in cutscenes not "in real time". If youve found this information and it will be used please tell me where !!!! Because so far I dont think it is being used in real time!!!
That's old news. As far as I know, the "fur effect" is used in real-time in Star Fox Adventures.
Originally posted by Deus_Ex_Machina Er... sort of... but trees decaying is a chemical reaction that happens over time, and mountain formations are formed from random eruptions... evolution in living things is due to small changes like those, but also it depends upon the environment alot more, as certain changes are favoured by certain environments. Although, a new theory is that evolution is merely a product of luck....
Yes, but they are the same thing. Evolution is a combination of random changes in genetics (over many generations) and changes based on adaption. It is known that evolution itself exists, in the sense that we know that species evolve over many millions of generations -- the fossil record is one of the best examples of this. But we can see it all around us -- why do you think some of the many-centuries-old streets and doorways in Europe are so small? Simply because older European civilizations were physically shorter than today's civilizations. This is also part of the process of evolution. Scientists also discovered that the Y chromisome is actually dissipating with each generation as well...once again, evidence of evolution. It's simply something nobody can deny -- it's 100% proven. The only question mark is that we are still unsure exactly how all aspects work. But having said that, we're still unsure about how the brain works and we are still unsure about how to cure some diseases...it doesn't mean we don't know the function of the brain or the function of the disease. Anyway, that discussion is kind of off-topic...from now on, I think everyone should just stick to answering the survey itself...I'm sure the member who posted it doesn't want to have his survey interrupted by discussion. It's easier that way.
-
I just want to point out that none of you seem to know anything about evolution. Evolution doesn't mean ape turning into man...it means many millions of generations changing in tiny little ways over millions of years. Of course it sounds dumb when you say "ape turns into man"...because that's not how it happens lol Each generation changes just a little bit. Just look at how dead trees turn into coal...and how mountains form from volcanoes over millions of years...this is all a process of evolution. No way to deny it. Anyway, just thought I'd correct that for a few people... Out of interest...to the person who originated this thread...what is the purpose of this specific survey? I mean, what subject is it for?

Also, Link's sister gave him his world-famous tunic for his birthday. Another interesting little note. ;) It almost seems like this Zelda is a prequel of sorts...I mean, Link is "young Link" in this story...but if this story tells of how he first got his tunic (and since you don't have of his sister so much in other stories)...that might suggest a prequel. Anyway, I personally feel that cel shading was the best option here -- Zelda has never before had so much personality. This is how Zelda should look. Also, when you actually play the game (if you read impressions), the facial expressions are said to be amazing...Link changes his expression depending on his emotions at the time. It's very cool. :)

1) Gender: Male 2) What do you believe in? Evolution 3) Why?: Because evolution is a proven fact; we know that the world is approximately 4.5 billion years old and we know much about the history of the Earth's inhabitants based on fossil record, carbon dating etc etc. 4) What is your religion?: I'm not religious, because I think that if God exists...he'd find the idea of organized religion to be blasphemous. lol But I'm not really athiest...so I guess I'd call myself "humanist" or something. *shrug* 5) How strong are your religious beliefs?: Erm, I have strong faith in the human spirit and the laws of the natural world...but I don't have religious faith in the traditional sense. So I guess you'd say that my religious beliefs are non existant. 6) Are you very familiar with any evolutionary theories?: Yes. In Australia (like in most modern countries), evolution/biology/human development are studied in high school. These are common natural facts that most people my age (in this country, at least) are aware of. 7) Ethnic Background: Australian (I'm Australian and so are my parents and grandparents...so I don't consider myself to have a "European" ethnic background) 8) Where have you lived most of your life?: Melbourne, Australia. :)

Yep and for the official trailer, visit http://e3.nintendo.com - it looks utterly incredible. You won't be dissappointed. :)

Indeed. :) If anyone wants to see more, I highly recommend downloading the official trailers. The sound quality is great and the video quality is awesome as well. Visit http://e3.nintendo.com for more. I recommend getting the Mario Sunshine and Zelda trailers...both of them blew me away (Mario Sunshine is now up there with Zelda as my most wanted game...the trailer will stun you).
Originally posted by Defcon5 sorry I don't wear hats. While I think most of us you didn't like him cel shading it never doubted that the graphics where going to be good. We just liked the more realisitc kind better. Yes they do look nice but I would have prefered the orignal demo he showed.
This is what Zelda is all about. The images I've provided are the essence of the Zelda series. They are like A Link to the Past but in 3D...and the sheer personality of the environments is incredible...this game is going to suck you in like no other Zelda game has. The more realistic game wouldn't have been as good because when you are focusing on realism, you can't create any "non realistic" situations, with regard to physics/controls etc etc... This style allows for so much more flexibility. If you're an old school Zelda fan, I don't see how you can't like this style.
Originally posted by Char-Char,Mander-Char! If that doesn't provoke at least a hint of respect in all of you, I don't know what does.
Why should that somehow incur respect? China is also a powerful nation -- should I automatically respect China? Power doesn't win respect. What you do with power wins respect.
