1. It'd be nice to have a "war on hunger", but I don't see it happening... I know that International troops are involved in Afghanistan...and will probably be involved in other missions. The simple fact is, in many cases, the USA can't undergo major missions without International backup. That's just how it is. And for the most part, it works out because the International community provides help to the USA when it needs help...and vice versa -- we'd expect the USA to assist us if we were in trouble. I know that, for example, Australia/New Zealand/USA have the ANZUS treaty...which basically says that an attack on one member's soil is considered an attack on all three. After September 11, Australia invoked the ANZUS treaty for the first time -- we reacted as if we ourselves had been attacked. And that is why you have Australian amphibious battlecraft and water-to-air rocket launching vessels in the Persian Gulf. I'm quite happy that Australia is playing a role...as we have in every major world war. We've always been a major part of the International Allies...and I am personally happy about it because I think that the cause is usually a just cause. In this case, I think most countries agree that the Taliban/Al Qaeda needed to be removed... Anyway, I'm kind of rambling here...but I think it's important to point out that the USA won't get help if others don't want to help. But the thing is, the USA, UK and Australia are the three major contributors to the campaign in Afghanistan...in addition to soldiers from 14 other nations. It works out that way because we all have similar/common values...and because we stick together in order to protect our way of life. So in a long winded way, I guess I'm saying that when other countries get involved, it's not always because of US-pressure. It's often for the simple reason that we share the same ideals as the United States.

It was slightly charred and burnt. Proteus: Ugh...I need to go back to HQ and have the titanium on my skin regenerated. I can see some of my internal wiring... Warlock: Good idea, Proteus. Proteus: But it's okay...I can live with it for now. I was awoken a little prematurely I think, as I don't yet have my regeneration program installed. Warlock: Not to worry, Proteus. We can arrange for you to get it. Proteus: Thanks. Okay so...what next? OOC: Oops! ..fixed! :)

  5.
Originally posted by Amphion James I am curious where do you live?
All you need to do is look at the left of any of my posts. It's right there. :)
Anyone who supports Clinton is showing everyone that they think its okay to cheat on your wife, Lie to everyone in the world and conduct unnapropriate "entertainment" when he should have been trying to make our country better.
Okay, that's just stupid and foolish. What does Clinton's personal life have to do with his ability as President? It's an incredibly lame argument, to shrug off someone's political career just because they've cheated on their wife. I hate to tell you, but MANY politicians have done the same -- it's his personal business and has nothing to do with anyone else. It annoys me how people try to take that and make it political when it isn't a political or professional issue.
They also beleive in sending our young boys to die in foreign lands where they dont belong. Everyone who supports that kind of man sickens me.
Once again, a silly comment. You are so much in support of America defending itself, and yet you said just here that people were being sent to lands where they don't belong. Where, exactly, did Clinton send troops that they didn't belong? It's convenient to state something out of context (or to pull a "fact" out of your butt), but unless you're willing to provide specifics, you shouldn't bother.
And aslo james how do you know what I know and dont know? If you really want to PM me some detailed, factuall info with resources on one thing clinton did for this country. Then I might beleive you.
I don't. But you aren't really demonstrating a great deal of knowledge in the area of politics. You want me to provide you with factual data, yet you've provided little in the way of factual information. Perhaps you should read my prior posts. I did not say that I was defending Clinton in a political sense...I frankly don't care what he did as President. That isn't my concern and it's not what I"m talking about. Somehow you've made this into a Bush v Clinton argument when it isn't. I merely said that Bush is being reactive rather than proactive. Had September 11 not occurred, do you really think Bush would have sent troops to Afghanistan? Do you really think that there would be this huge focus on national security? Of course not. Bush is reacting to the disaster in the same way that anyone else would...that's what I'm saying. I'm also saying that you can't possibly blame Clinton for terrorism or for "low national security", because at that point in time, the threat level was not properly known. If it had been known, then the Bush Administration would have been able to prevent September 11. So you see, nothing has really changed here...
Yeah its bad that a 14 year old son cant see his parents. I was just stating that, as an american it makes me feel safer to know that my country is now actually looking at who comes into this country. As I said before FF I hope they let you in the country.
Yeah, it's fine to look at who is coming in...but it's not fine to protect your borders in an abritrary way. You need to be selective...and to deny a fourteen year old boy's entry into the country on numerous occasions is pretty lousy; there is no escaping that fact.

  7. I think MS will cut the price of Xbox again. Why? Because they can afford it. Microsoft don't expect to make money on Xbox hardware -- no company expects to make money on hardware. Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are all making losses on their hardware. Money is made on software sales. And obviously, if you have more consoles out there, you have more software sales. So it is within Microsoft's interest to cut the Xbox's price as much as it can...to the point where it can realistically absorb the costs. Still, Xbox can't touch PS2. It's way too far infront. And GameCube is edging infront in the USA as well now...so Microsoft is going to have to really push the software angle a lot more. Or in other words, they need more exclusive, good games...it's the only way to push the Xbox ahead.
  8.
Originally posted by Heaven's Cloud I have to agree with James almost fully (which is kind of odd because we seem to have slightly differing opinions most of the time). When people see things that they cannot fully rationalize and understand they tend to classify it as "mystical" or "paranormal", but if the events are explored in a more indepth mannor there tends to be a rational or scientific explanation.
Agreed. As for the whole thing about aliens...well, I don't really consider aliens to be "paranormal". I mean, if there are other species in the Universe, then we would be aliens to them as well...lol And the concept of aliens is physically possible...it's something that doesn't contradict physics or biology...whereas something like ghosts or whatever is something that is a lot harder to prove (and strains credibility in so many ways).
  9.
Originally posted by Vegitto4 So, opinions. Come on, I had to ask.
It's not hard to put some more thought into your threads. 10. Hm, 'bout time Sony cut its price in the USA. The console's price was cut at least twice since launch here in Australia. Sounds good. :)

  12. I don't really "believe" in this stuff because belief is a subjective word; it implies that your belief isn't a fact. And if it's not a fact, then it's probably not truthful. Having said that...I think that there are a lot of things out there which aren't properly investigated. Usually, things that we find strange or "paranormal", have a fully reasonable explanation. I mean, thousands of years ago, people couldn't explain the sun rising and setting...so they created myths to explain it. The same is true for today's "paranormal" experiences.

  14.
Originally posted by Amphion Sorry, no offense but I dont feel sorry for you. I am glad they are like that. We just had 8 to 10 people come over here on visas to go to school and the used it to learn to fly and take out two of the biggest buildings in america killing loads of innocent people. Age doesnt matter either, there are young 15 16 year old palestinian suicide bombers. I dont think they sould cut people from coming all together but I am glad they are very strict now. Thanks to the wacked Clinton administration just about anyone could walk over here when they felt like it. I doupt seriously you wont kill anyone so keep trying I am sure they are just trying to keep anything bad from happening, thats something yuo will just have to understand.
You're wrong on quite a few points there. Firstly, it's more than acceptable to tighten the belt and have higher security...but in this case, we're talking about a fourteen year old boy from New Zealand, who already has parents in the United States. The Government can filter through people who are suspicious or whatnot, but this is just plain stupid. There is no excuse for such a ridiculous response from the Government -- this just comes down to laziness and inefficiency. As for Clinton, he did what he could. I'm not trying to defend every action, but a lot of morons are now saying "that idiot Clinton did nothing". Well I hate to tell you, but had September 11 not happened, President Bush wouldn't be doing anything either. He has been no better than Clinton; he's been reactive rather than proactive. It's unfair and ignorant to blame a past administration when you don't truly understand the circumstances.

  17.
Originally posted by SephirothNIN Ack I have a problem. I use the red/white/yellow cords that came w/ my PS2 to connect it to my VCR, and that's plugged into my TV. BUT when I try to play a dvd movie it keeps screwing up. My friend told me that it has some built in safety device that prevents people from copying dvd movies onto a tape. But my friend's dvd player works fine so I wonder if anyone knows what the hell's wrong with Sony for doing that. Argh all it manages to do is piss me off, it only messes up w/ Americanish movies like Matrix, something about mary, american pie 2, anything like that. Anime dvds work just fine.....and as for plugging an RF switch directly into the tv, something's wrong w/ mine and it makes staticy sounds, anyone have any suggestions that don't involve buying a new.....anything?
Exact same thing happened to me. Don't worry, it's not necessary to purchase any new equipment. Simply plug the yellow video cable directly into your TV set (rather than your VCR). Your picture quality will be fine if you do this. :)
  18. The Journey... The Naboo Royal Starship broke away from the planet's gravitational field, its brilliant silver hull reflecting the millions of stars in the Galaxy as it sped away from its origin. Largo was sitting in his chamber aboard the ship; his chamber was located next to the Queen's chamber. Even though the Queen was not travelling on the ship at this point in time, nobody was permitted to enter her quarters. Largo was still reading his book "Legend of the Underwater People", when the door to his quarters opened suddenly. He looked up and saw a silver protocol droid entering the room with a large silver tray. C-17a: Hello sir, would you like some tea? Largo: Yes yes...but hurry up. I'm trying to finish this book. C-17a: Very good, sir. The droid poured a cup of tea and exited the room quietly. Largo went back to reading his book. But after a few minutes, he noticed something strange...the ship appeared to be travelling a little more slowly. He stood up and approached the communications port near the doorway. The communications port was a flat video screen on the wall of the ship, which allowed occupants of the vessel to communicate directly with the pilot. Largo pressed the button which connected him to the ship's central command. Royal Pilot: Yes, sir? Largo: Are we slowing down? Royal Pilot: Yes, sir. Largo: Why? We are still several hours from Coruscant, even in hyperspace... Royal Pilot: There is a fleet of Trade Federation vessels up ahead, sir. We don't expect any trouble from them, but we know that they like to bully local diplomats. Largo: I've never encountered them...why would they bully us? Royal Pilot: Because sir, we are representative of the outer rim -- an area which they have strong control over. They always get agitated when a diplomatic vessel passes through their trade route. Largo: I see. If you receive any communications from them, be sure to inform me. Royal Pilot: Yes, sir. Largo felt himself shudder. The Naboo were not aggressive people. Even on this vessel, there were only a handful of armed officers. The Trade Federation was known for being somewhat underhanded and at the very least, corrupt. He had heard stories of diplomatic ships travelling through Trade Federation routes, only to be threatened and bullied if their diplomats didn't back the Trade Federation in the Galactic Senate. This concerned Largo, because even though he didn't agree with the Trade Federation, he understood that even if the Royal Starship was destroyed, there would be very little that Naboo could do about it. Largo sat down and continued to sip his tea nervously. He hoped that the Trade Federation wouldn't hold them up...
  19. Both TN and wrist cutter have adequately covered the meaning of "Otaku". Indeed, some see it as offensive (if you find being called an "anime geek" offensive lol)...we use it because we are trying to point out that our site is for truly hardcore anime fans...there are many sites which use the word "Otaku" as well as us. It's become almost like a kind of slang or whatever... Anyway, wrist cutter is correct...no more need for this topic.
  20.
Originally posted by BabyGirl It's the whole "live each moment like it's your last" prophecy. I find that to be much more important than worrying about the end of the world...
I agree completely. :) There is nothing worse than missing an opportunity in life; not telling someone how you feel about them and then having them move far away...not taking a chance and trying something new...not taking a really exciting new job because of some minor concern... You can surprise yourself if you live with that frame of mind. :)
  21. The Departure... Largo Sung made his way down the Grand Staircase, at the east of the Royal Palace. The staircase led to the Royal Spaceport, where the Royal Starship was waiting. Largo was flanked by five of his personal bodyguards, who remained in perfect formation beside and behind him. As he reached the Spaceport itself, he stood still for a moment, marvelling at the sight before him. The mirror-like surface of the Royal Starship was an incredible sight to behold. There was simply no other ship in the Galaxy like this. Wherever it went, people knew what it was; it was a symbol of power and thousands of years of culture and history. Largo believed its beauty to be unmatched, as it wasn't a mere Starship...it was a work of art; a symbol of Naboo culture and expression. The Starship's engines whirred softly in the morning sunlight. The ship's perfectly-crafted surface shimmered in the light and cast bright, silvery reflections around the Royal Spaceport. Largo smiled. It was moments like these which made him proud to be a man of the Naboo. The pilot of the Royal Starship came into view and approached Largo. He was wearing a black and maroon cap, with the Royal Coat of Arms sitting neatly on the front. As he stood infront of Largo, he bowed graciously and smiled. Largo nodded. Largo: Ahh, she never ceases to amaze me. Royal Pilot: Yes indeed, sir. She's beautiful, isn't she? Largo: She certainly is. We'll have to cover her up when we reach Coruscant; I'm sure her beauty is such that she'll distract everyone's attention and cause a few nasty accidents... The pilot laughed at Largo's remark, nodding in agreement. Royal Pilot: When are we leaving, sir? Largo: As soon as possible. The Queen seems rather determined that this trip be made soon. Royal Pilot: Ahh, very well. I'm just warming her engines as we speak. I don't want to take off and have any engine troubles... Largo: You take very good care of her. :) Royal Pilot: Heh, when I was little, I always dreamed of being the Royal Pilot. I wouldn't dream of letting anything happen to the Royal Starship... Largo: Yes, a mere scratch on her hull would require a month's wage to fix! The two laughed again. Royal Pilot: Sir, I suggest that you climb aboard now anyway. I expect to be ready in about fifteen minutes from now. Largo: Very good. And with that, the pilot bowed again and made his way around to the other side of the ship. Largo overheard him discussing the ship's status with one of the Royal Engineers, which inspired some confidence in Largo...if he was going to travel all the way to Coruscant, he wanted someone who would look after the ship...
  22. The bottom line is, none of us will witness the end of the world, regardless of what theory people subscribe to. We'll all die someday...and hopefully, the majority of us will live to a very old age...and die peacefully, after a long and happy life. But we never know what will be around the next corner. We never know whether there will be an accident...or we'll be in the wrong place at the wrong time... That's why we should make the most of the present. :)
  23. I don't know about the head stomping thing...but I personally think it's great that RE is so hard, as everyone suggests. Older gamers tend to complain that newer games are often shorter/easier than older games...and perhaps new gamers are conditioned to enjoy those kinds of games (especially "casual" gamers). I think it's great that some new games can still be really tough.
  24. I'd wish for ignorance to be gone. That would remove racism/intolerance...and quite a lot of stupidity/irrationality in the world.
  25. I think the basic idea has to be that, in reality, there are much more mundane things which threaten our existence. Whether religious or not, there are more pressing concerns facing human beings...things like famine, corruption, intolerance etc... Regardless of how we believe the world will end, I think it's important to focus on the here and now...and how we can make the world a better place in general.
