2.
Originally posted by Sephiroth perhaps it is because you have not played the japanese version of tekken 3? sure the pal version runs smoothly, but compared to its japanese counterpart it runs pretty slow.... and yes, this is a case for the uk being screwed over as usual, lol....
I've played both the Japan and Australian versions of Tekken 3. And I didn't see a single speed difference. In fact, the Japanese games are often worse than their Australian counterparts, as by the time the games reach Australia, they are often improved and bugs are fixed. The best example of this would be Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast. Sega fixed up all the major camera issues in the game and as a result, the Australian version was the most "complete" of the various world versions. So certainly, within the PAL territories (which is most of the world), different publishers must expect different levels of quality for the finished product. Anyway, I'm certainly looking forward to the FFX International version hitting our shores. :)
 3.
Originally posted by Sephiroth I must disagree with you there james, I do indeed notice a speed difference on DC games with the option to play the game at 50 or 60, on 60 there are no borders, and the game plays nice and smoothly, on 50 the black borders are present, and there is a noticeable difference in speed.... I noticed this with phantasy star online, the game even suggests that you play the game at 60 to be able to play with other countries online.... I have two copies of tekken 3 on the ps, one is PAL, the other NTSC, and there is definately a speed difference, which is why I always play the japanese version of the game, rather than the PAL version....
That surprises me greatly. The speed difference between 60Hz and 50Hz is utterly marginal -- most won't notice it. However, I have personally never seen a difference. I've played NTSC versions of some of my favourite PAL games...yet I've never had any issues like that. The Australian version of Tekken III ran absolutely smoothly...it was surprisingly quick. Perhaps this is another case of the UK being screwed over?
 4.
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy I guess it's just a coincidence that 1981 was the year, that two legends were born. On one hand you have the mushroom eating plumber and on the other you have the Godfather of Gaming. Go figure.
Yes, Mario is definitely the Godfather of Gaming. :drunk: :excited: :worried: :D
 5.
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy Yeah, Earth to Sephiroth, almost every Virtua Fighter is almost the same as it's predecessor but with the addition of new stages and two new characters. Granted Virtua Fighter 3 added a bit more, but for the worse. Anyway, the gameplay in DOA2 was spot on to begin with, but the addition of endings and new moves to DOA3 freshened things up a bit. I wonder if Australia got the new costumes and such though. It would have spiced it up a bit more.
It is definitely a shame that DOA3 doesn't really demonstrate a great deal of innovation. I have much more respect for the Virtua Fighter series, primarily because it started so many gaming conventions in the fighting genre. Although I personally feel that fighting games are one of the weakest genres; not because they aren't fun, but because there is very little innovation involved in modern fighting games. They are all generally clones of one another -- it was really only games like Soul Calibur and Power Stone of late, which have kept me interested in fighters on the whole.
 6. Satoru and Denki rode their chocobos up to the station platform and tied them to a post there. Denki: *sniff* I'm gonna miss 'im... :bawl: Satoru: Hey, it's alright. We might see them again one day. :) Denki: I hope so! Satoru walked up onto the station platform. He heard the announcement: Desert Train bound for Junon City Station...leaving in five minutes! Satoru motioned for Denki to follow him. The pair bought their tickets and boarded the old train. Satoru: Do you think it will take long to reach Junon? Denki: It's probably an overnight trip... Satoru: Okay then. Denki: So tell me more 'bout yourself. Satoru: What do you want to know? Denki: Well...what really 'appened in Junon? Satoru: I don't know what you mean... Denki: Erm, well, everyone sorta thought that Shinra was up to its old tricks again. Ya know...staging a fake mako leak to force everyone to leave the city an' all that. Satoru: *sigh* People still have that impression of Shinra? It couldn't be further from the truth. We came a long way since my father's days... Denki: If that's the case, then why are you here? Satoru: Good point. But I don't think you can blame all of Shinra at once...I think I know who to blame for framing me though. Denki: Who? Satoru: Miss Scarlet. She has hated me ever since I got the job...she doesn't agree with what I've done. She agrees with what used to be done... Denki: Oh. There anyway you can make it right? Satoru: I don't know. I imagine, if I step back into Midgar...I'll be arrested. I can't be seen. Denki: Well, we'll 'ave to find you a disguise in Junon when we get there. :) Satoru: Yeah...
 7. I think the simple fact here is, Shiro...you seem to make a new RPG thread every second day. And in each RPG, you write maybe two or three lines about the story...with no sign up fields or any other useful information. Additionally, these RPGs seem to be always a mere repeat of what someone else has already done. It's okay to do another Metal Gear RPG...but at least make it different...and at least put some more thought into what you've posted. If I keep seeing such threads, I will just delete them. I think that for now...maybe you should just focus on either joining other people's RPGs...or waiting a bit and making an RPG where you've really put in some significant thought. :)
 8.
Originally posted by NirFan72 Ok,Here's my theory on the subject.I belive that there is no such thing as the future.Because,Everything is happening now,and time is still being written. Now,on Time Travel, here is my theory.(Give me feedback,i've been working on it since 12/3/01) You need to travel faster than the speed of light.Last time I checked, this was around 300,000 km/sec,or 186,000 mi/sec.Prettty Fast, but possible. Now,I've had people come up to me and say,why not just use a black hole.Well,a black hole is not really a hole, more of a collapsed star turned into a ginormous vacuum. It sucks things in,and flattens them out of exsistence. So,Black hole is out of the question. But,I think we could use Wormholes,as they are, imo, dimensional holes, that allow travel. And,I belive every nanosecond of our life is a dimension. Now,I've heard people saying you can go back and kill yourself, but,i think that when you travel, you replace yourself with the you from the dimension you go through, and so on until you reach your destination. This is where Deja Vu comes from.Thats my theory. So,what do you think. PS:Go here for futher info http://www.time-travel.com
Interesting theory, but I'm going to have to ask you to watch your post quality a little (ie: please use the spacebar). :)
 9.
Originally posted by Sephiroth play any fighting game and THEN tell me there's no difference, lol.... its almost slow motion O_o;;;
That's rubbish. There is no difference -- no noticeable difference anyway. It's a myth. Any slowdown you experience in a fighting game will have nothing to do with the 50Hz setting. Case in point -- when you play Dreamcast games on 50Hz, the only difference is that you see the black lines on the top and bottom...there is no visible speed difference. Having said that, I doubt if FFX won't be 60Hz, or at least, have a 60Hz option, since other PS2 games are using this medium as standard. Moreover, PAL territories are really starting to benefit. Australia has been doing really well this year, getting a lot of exclusive stuff (including the Jet Black GBA).
 10.
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy Ah yes, but did you know that Naka angrily left development of the second Sonic game? Basically, he didn't really have much to do with that one. Furthermore, he even quit the company for a period of time.
Hmm, never heard that one before. ;)
 11. Another interesting thing Einstein said: If you travel away from a clock at the speed of light, the arms would appear to stand still -- thus, time will have appeared to stop. Also, by putting time measuring instruments on spacecraft, NASA have actually shown that when astronauts come back to earth, they are actually a few seconds younger, meaning, they haven't aged as quickly, due to the speed that they are travelling around the earth. I found that to be especially interesting. :)
 12.
Originally posted by NeoCactuar Well from what i know. It IS leagel to download a rom if you intend to buy the game with in 24 hours. But otherwise, it is not leagal to download the rom.
Incorrect. That is a common misnoma printed on the web. Actually, if you download any ROM at all -- you are technically stealing.
 13.
Originally posted by Cera It intrigues me....I don't have the effort to understand all the possibilities--or whether some things even are that--but it does intrigue me. More as a potential story than anything else, I'm afraid...i do love writing time travel stories....
Yeah, the whole idea of going back in time and changing something and seeing what the effects are, etc...it's incredibly weird to think about that if it were real. Even in a story, it allows for so much creativity.
 14.
Originally posted by Apokronos Thank you for understanding. :) Ive read other people's theories on how to travel throgh black holes, and so far Ive found one that might work. The theory speaks of an artificial "doughnut shaped" rotating singularity. When the object gets near it, it goes through the hole and doesnt get sucked into the black hole, but passes through. Theres also the "cosmic" string theory, but Ill save that for another day.
I'm really interested in spacey stuff. Some of the facts about space are so incredible that they are literally incomprehensible to the human mind. Black holes are particularly interesting...as they are such an unknown entity. :)
 15.
Originally posted by Apokronos Thats why I said an extremely far distance. When the capsule went faster than the speed of light, it would still be very far away from the singualarity. And when it travels back in time it wouldnt be around the singualarity. I said it would suck in energy, thats what makes it go faster than the speed of light. You cant suck in sound, only the medium in which they travel in.
Ahh I see. So you're talking about using the black hole as an accelerator? As in, the space craft would not actually fly into the hole? That makes more sense. Although, the black hole actually does suck in sound -- it physically absorbs sound waves. This is something that a prominent space researcher in America was talking about. I find it incredible that the black hole can also bend and twist time itself...that just demonstrates the incredible power it wields....
 16.
Originally posted by Apokronos Heres how it works: The capsule begin to be pulled by the gravity of the black hole, and it begins to gain speed. Its at such a distance that the gravity increases as it gets closer and the capsule goes faster. Eventually, it reachs the speed of light and turns into energy (E=Mc2), the energy is still pulled by the black hole, and eventually it goes faster then the speed of light and travels back in time, so you dont have to worry about the black hole pulling the energy in. The only problem is that you would continue to travel back in time at an Unknown rate unless you could slow down.
The problem with that theory is that all matter drawn into the black hole condenses at the point of the singularity. I'm not sure what the exact mass is, but a teaspoon full of matter focused at that point would weigh something like a million times the mass of the Earth. Moreover, a black hole's gravity is so strong that it not only sucks in matter, light and sound...but it also distorts time itself. The event horizon is powerful enough to completely warp these elements -- thus, no man-made craft could even get near the hole...no matter how fast it was going. Because it would still be "spaghettified" (a term used by scientists to describe the warping effect on matter when entering a black hole). A worm hole is a much more likely proposition, because it has a known ending and entrance.
 17.
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve lol I don't give one crap about SEGA... I have a personal vandetta against them, which is why i call them the Sh*tty Electronic Gaming Alliance. IT MAKES SENSE! sorry...
Erm...riight. Don't bash SEGA, Transtic...or I will personally kick you off the boards. :) SEGA stands for "SErvice GAmes". SEGA began operations in the early 1960's, developing various electronic amusement machines (which kind of evolved into arcade technology during the 1970's). As for the last question...it really has little to do with SEGA lol, so I have no idea. However, Sonic was created by Yuji Naka (although actually, Yuji Naka only programmed the games...the characters were designed by Ohshima...I forget his first name, but I saw an interview with him in a magazine once). There you go... a few interesting facts. ;) By the way, I've moved this as it's a gaming thread. Yes I know it isn't related to Nintendo, but as Sonic is now on GameCube/GBA...Nintendo seems the most logical place to put it. :)
 18.
Originally posted by Shyguy From what I know about Time Travel there is no way to safely travel in time without splitting the space/time continium (sp?) and the universe itself into a million pieces.
What the..? We're talking about real life, not Back to the Future. lol :D Actually, the reason scientists have said that a wormhole is necessary is because currently, in order to travel in time, one would need to travel faster than the speed of light. However, there is no object which can travel faster than the speed of light. Thus, another way must be found. The theory of a wormhole is that it literally rips a hole in the fabric of space. The reason a wormhole would be a safe alternative is that its cousin (a black hole) is not a tunnel...meaning that if you actually went inside and hit the singularity, who knows what would happen -- but in any case, you'd be destroyed long before you got there. So yeah, the wormhole theory relates to travelling great distances (millions of light years) in only a few months of "real time". The worm hole is unique in this sense because like a black hole, the worm hole actually bypasses time itself.
 19. I actually recently watched a documentary about "exploring the limits of science" and where science would be in a hundred years or more. Time travel is physically possible -- we just don't have the technology to achieve it. As one scientist said "Usually, if we find something to be physically possible, we are able to achieve it at some point". The same can be said for anti-gravity technology (which is currently being researched). It was a very interesting documentary...I found it fascinating, in terms of what science can potentially achieve.
 20.
Originally posted by Sephiroth as for MGS3, I believe that if they do decide to release it, then it should be on the PS3, there is no point in releasing it on the PS2 apart from a new story, I really do not think they can change the graphics much the PS2, plus the game would become more revolutionary on the PS3....
I'd have to disagree with that. In-game graphics aren't going to increase by leaps and bounds from now on...I mean, sure, they will become more realistic and more fluid, but I don't have a single problem with MGS2's visuals. That said, I think that a lot can be done in a design sense. The environments in MGS2 where somewhat repetitive at times and I feel that using the same graphics engine, Konami could really turn out some impressive level designs (even though current designs were still quite good). If Konami make another MGS on PS2, I really hope that they improve the storyline, in terms of keeping the crappy love sequences out of it. And perhaps adding more of a background to the various enemy characters.
 21. Drake silently walked across the launchpad toward the cargo bay area. He looked around to make sure that nobody was watching. He then took out his binoculars and examined the airport. On the far side of the launchpad, he saw several large crates with what appared to be Russian writing on them. He saw a couple of guards patrolling around them as well. Drake: So...that's where it is. I wonder what Raven wants with them... Drake made his way around the edges of the launchpad toward the large crates. He managed to get close enough to read the writing, but just as he was about to examine the crates more closely, he felt something hard touch his ear. It was a rifle. Guard: Just what do you think you're doing here? Drake: Hey hey...it's alright, I'm not here to hurt anyone... Guard: Heh, I'm not concerened about that. I just want you out of here. This area is off-limits to civilians. Drake: God dammit... Guard: What was that? Drake: You um...ever heard of "Raven"? Guard: *scratches head* No... Drake: He sent me here. Guard: Well, you better get out of here real quick, before I spread your brains over the concrete. Drake: But he'll kill my daughter if I don't find out what's in these crates... Guard: Bad luck. Get out of here now. Drake held his arms up in the air and backed away. The Guard stood still and held the rifle up at him. Drake turned and began to walk toward the airport's exit. Just as he did so, he heard his mobile phone ring. Drake: Hello? Raven: What are you doing, Drake? Drake: I-I was discovered... Raven: Tsk tsk...why didn't you shoot the guard?! Drake: He had his rifle to my head... Raven: Oh dear...well...I guess your little daughter is going to have to pay for her father's cowardice... Drake: N-no!! Please! Raven: Hahah, sorry Drake...your failed miserably. Not only is your daughter going to die for what you've done, but your cell phone is going to leave you a little surprise. Goodbye. Drake: ?! The phone clicked off and began to beep shrilly. But Drake was too slow -- the phone exploded in his hand, sending human-shrapnel flying all over the helipad...
 22.
Originally posted by BabyGirl You, my friend, are wise ;)
Agreed. Deus_Ex made some good points. I think the basic idea is that if you are constantly pessimistic about everything...nothing will work for you. You can only be helped if you are willing to put trust in others and "help them help you".
 23. Oh come now, who would say Tidus is a female? lol I mean, just look at the history of Japanese characters. So many of the males have had a slightly female style to them -- Squall is a case in point. And more recently, Raiden in MGS2. This is nothing new...and there is actually a cultural reason for it. But Tidus is actually more masculine than Squall and Cloud (in my opinion)...because he is more realistically modeled. I think that he may come across as being female to some because he is...well...beautiful. lol Like when the character designer for MGS2 thought Hideo Kojima was joking when he said "I want Raiden to be a very beautiful man". But you see...it all has a point. Anyway, it's a Japanese thing. And now I have no idea what I'm talking about...I hope Sephiroth doesn't use this thread to make mention of Raiden/Tidus Yaoi. Not that anyone would be interested in that. Nope, no siree bob. o_O
 24. Karu and Mahl had spent several hours flying over the clouds. They were headed north. Karu: Are we nearly there? Mahl: I believe so... Mahl tapped the golden chocobo on the feathers with his legs and it began to descend through the clouds. The terrain below was not visible, apart from the mountaintops. The area below was filled with a dense fog. Mahl: Oh...just as I suspected. Karu: Wow... They descended rapidly, causing the wind to ripple through their hair and clothing. Mahl's long, white beard streamed out behind him. Within what seemed like a couple of minutes, they had landed on the ground. Mahl hopped off the chocobo's back and adjusted his cloak. Mahl: Bah, that bird always flies too fast. Karu hid a muffled giggle and joined Mahl on the ground. Mahl: Your friends are nearby...I'm sure we can find them. Mahl held up his staff and it began to glow. Immediately, the fog infront of them began to part and create a clear path. Mahl took Karu's hand and they both began to follow the pathway, hoping to find Sephiroth and Chole on their way...
 25. Satoru and Denki had been riding their chocobos for several days. Satoru had removed his jacket and untucked his shirt, which was fluttering out behind him as his chocobo ran. He was starting to feel very hungry -- the pair had only been able to eat what they could catch in the desert. And being a desert, there wasn't a whole lot of food available. However, they had both seen what appeared to be a railway station in the distance. It looked old and run-down, but Satoru could see several people walking around on the platform. Satoru: Why do they have a railway line here?! It's a desert! Denki: I guess it's the Gold Saucer Rail Line. Not many people use it...it's more for the adventurin' kind, ya know. A lotta people come out 'ere and hunt for buried treasures 'n' stuff...not that they find anythin'. Satoru: Oh. Well, I guess we can take a train. What is the nearest city from here? Denki: I'd say Junon...but I dunno. I ain't been outta jail in seven years... Satoru: Alright, we'll go to Junon then. Besides, I want to see if everyone there is okay since that evacuation a few days ago. Denki: OK then. The pair rode towards the station, hoping that the rickety old train would be able to take them to the station in Junon...
