1.
Originally posted by Jabroni3:16 I know what you are trying to say, but if the word is going to be hurtful is used by the other non family member (going with your example here) then the other person shouldn't have used it in the first place, in other words, "things are better left unsaid".
Well yeah...of course it's better to say nothing bad at all. But you have to accept that people are going to use this language in some cases. So if people want to call themselves something...there's nothing anyone else can do about it. But if you go round calling others really derogatory words...well, it's a bit different to them using it on themselves.
  2. Hm, perhaps the thread in Zelda is more understandable following that post. I think you have to find an analogy here. I mean, it's like when someone might say stuff about their family...about how they hate their mother or father etc etc...but you as an outsider have no right to say such things about someone else's family. Hm, it's hard to explain. But basically, it's like I said before...I can call myself a stupid idiot or something, but it's rude for you to call me that. The same is true for the word ******...it's something which is rude to call others. But if you want to say it about yourself; go ahead. As for the "white man" jokes...I have to say, sometimes I agree with that. I mean, sometimes it seems "okay" to joke about white men yet forbidden to joke about black men. In any case, I don't find racial jokes funny...so for me, it's kind of a moot point. :)
  3. Karu had fallen asleep. But it didn't last long. With a loud thump, he hit the ground. Karu stood up and rubbed his eyes. He noticed that the large, golden chocobo was standing beside him. And standing next to it was a young boy who looked about his age...but there was something strange about him...he looked unusually familiar... Karu: Uhh, where am I? Boy: Hehe...you're in Quart territory! Karu: I am?! Boy: Yea! My birdie here, Cho-Cho, went and picked you up! Karu: Egh...but what about my friends? I need to get back to them... Boy: Noo...:( ...you only just got here! There is much to do! Karu: But this is kidnapping! You can't just take me without my permission!! Boy: Ohh but...we thought you'd wanna see your home... Karu: My home? Boy: Yea!! Your home! ...Look! The small boy turned and pointed to a group of trees nearby. Karu: There's nothing there! Boy: Bah...follow me! The boy took Karu by the hand and led him up a small incline and through a group of trees. They emerged on the other side, only to see the most incredible sight Karu had laid eyes upon... Standing in a field beyond the edge of the forest was an enormous tree. The base of the tree must have been miles wide...it kept going and going. The roots of the tree (many of which were above ground) stretched out for miles around...some of them looked longer than airport runways. The trunk of the tree itself rose several kilometers into the air. The tree was easily taller than any of the skyscrapers in Solhara City -- even the skyscraper which housed the Mayor's offices. Karu blinked and looked more carefully...he noticed that there were millions of branches. The branches had small objects moving back and forth all over them. The small objects (which would have been enormous close-up) were infact beetles. The various Quart who lived in the tree were riding enormous beetles along the branches, which acted as highways from one area to another. Apart from the leaves which grew on them, the branches also had large spheres growing on them. The spheres were hanging from each branch -- there would have been more than a million spheres all over the tree. From what he could see, most of them appeared to have doors on them...and windows on either side. Karu scratched his head. He couldn't believe how amazing the Great Tree of Ephra was in person. The sheer wonder of seeing the tree made him momentarily forget Sephiroth and Chole. He wanted to see more... Karu: Can you take me there? Boy: Yea! Sure can! You can come and say hello to my mom and dad...they'll be so happy to have a visitor! Karu: Okay...how are we going to get there? The field looks enormous... Boy: Oh, no problem! We'll take Cho-Cho. The boy whistled and the great golden chocobo sat down next to him. He sat on its back and beckoned for Karu to join him. Karu climbed up on the bird's wing and sat down behind the boy. The huge chocobo stood up and flapped its wings. In a flurry of feathers and a rush of wind, Karu and his new companion were soaring through the clouds, moving ever-closer to the great tree. Karu noticed that some of the tree's tallest branches penetrated the clouds...some were so high, that despite the height that they were flying, some of the branches were still much higher up than they were...
  4.
Originally posted by Nerdsy Bleh, James, I think a better way to say that would be "I take wrestling as seriously as James does the video game industry." :wigout:
Hm, possibly. But I can't see myself being that serious. lol :drunk: :worried:
  5. Hm, interesting topic (though a bad choice of title). I think that the "N word" is one which has always been designed to make someone else feel bad. It's always been a negative, inflammatory and derogatory word. In Australia, there are also racist words. Greeks/Italians get called "wogs", Asians get called "gooks" and Whites get called "skips". The whole thing is utterly ridiculous. Most of the time, the three above words I mentioned tend to be used in a slang way in this country. I mean, 50 years ago, the word "***" was very offensive. Nowdays, it's offensive if used in a negative context...but often, it's merely a slang term. The same can also be said for the word "queer" or "fa ggot" to describe gay people. Particularly the latter: these words are often used to discriminate, but sometimes among the gay community, they are used as slang (perhaps the first word moreso than the latter word). One thing I take issue with in particular (which isn't really related specifically to the "n word"), is the use of the word "gay" by a lot of kids. Kids often say "Oh that's gay" or "don't act so gay". They don't necessarily realize it, but by talking in this way, they're using the term "gay" as an insult. And why should being gay be an insult to someone? It'd be like saying "Oh that's black...don't act so black". See what I mean? It's actually pretty prejudice to say something like that. Having said all of that...if a black person wants to use the word ****** about themselves...then that is their own choice. That'd be like me saying "I'm a stupid idiot" -- if I want to say it, then it's my business. But I don't really think others have the right to use these words against each other...because often, they are designed to be hurtful.
  6. It's definitely great that Sega is moving third party. I can't wait to see Sonic Adventure 3 on GameCube. :) Other than that...I think we can look forward to seeing Sonic in Mario Kart on GameCube...I can't even imagine how cool that'll be, as I'm a HUGE Mario Kart fan. :)
  7.
Originally posted by NeoCactuar Well, they are now the Lipan Mafia. So the old Yakuza might make a return... who knows... (Cough)JamesIfYouWantToYouCanDoAPostAndBringThemBackInSomehow(Cough)
Um yeah...I might do that. It's just that there are ALREADY Italian mafia and such...and it's kind of cliche. Oh well, I'll think if something...
  8.
Originally posted by NeoCactuar Well, you may have seen. If you read my post, that about 3 years ago (After GTA3 was set) the Yakuza were over run by a New mafia, and they kept the name Yakuza. So if you read my other post, you may have noticed they have finally dumped the name Yakuza, and gone with 'The Lipan Family Mafia'. You would understand this if you read my first post. My mission was to assinate the old Yakuza leaders that were still alive, that were trying to reform. But im sure the rest of you read all my posts and understood.
Yes, yes. I understand that. lol I thought that the Yakuza in this story were based on real life Yakuza...it kinda sucks that now they're some Italian group or whatever. Oh well...if that's how the story is progressing, it's no problem. :)
  9. Uhh, just a note to NeoCactuar...why would the leader of the Yakuza have an Italian name? The Yakuza are the Japanese mafia...:drunk: Just wondering. I'll start up my character in a moment.
  10. Thanks for the kind words, Rick. It's always great to welcome a new staff member to theOtaku.com and to the O3Online group of websites. As Seph said, we've already had the Otaku Awards...so I don't feel that anther popularity contest is really required here. But I'll leave your thread here so that others members will be free to read your comments. :) Once again, welcome to theOtaku.com.
  11.
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy I have a perfectly good rebuttal for that Perfect Dark point. I forgot all about Perfect Dark Zero! :whoops: Anyway though, I'm a bit skeptical about Metroid. I know that it will be a quality title and all, but there's the underlying concern that it won't be much like the Metroid I remember. When I get GameCube later on(for Wrestlemania this June), I know that Metroid will be on my list so don't take it like I'm knocking the game...just yet. It'll probably be better than most of the first person shooters out there, but living up to the series will be a huge challenge . I guess my argument's weak because I'm not really as behind it as I should be.
Yeah, I know you're playing devil's advocate so to speak...in terms of trying to provide alternate views...which is always a good thing. :) From what I've seen of Metroid so far...(the two videos), it's shaping up to be very fine indeed. Nintendo have been very strict in this regard; Shigeru Miyamoto has spent a lot of time making changes and providing direct feedback and advice on the game. But also, the staff who form Retro Studios come from many companies which are associated with good FPS games. They come from companies such as Valve (nuff said), Iguana (Turok) and even some from Rare and Nintendo. So I have faith in the game. Visually, it puts Halo to shame lol...but I really hope that it will borrow old Metroid elements, while also providing new direction in the series. Who knows: this could be the huge rebirth of Metroid that everyone's waiting for. I think Nintendo has too much riding on this title to let us down...
  12.
Originally posted by \¤~NoodleZ~¤/ I just talked to James and he said that he didn't ban you so I don't know if you were banned at all. If you were it was probably Adam then.
All Super Moderators have the power to ban as well...so there are many possible things that could have happened. lol
  13.
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy I had an interesting thought today about this subject. A lot of people base the "Kiddie" concept on blood and gore. Although, I agree that GameCube is not primarily a child's system based on this argument, I do see some grounds for Nintendo appearing childish. To my recollection, I have yet to see Nintendo conjure up a truly adult concept for a GameCube title. By "truly adult" I mean something with a really mature storyline like Metal Gear Solid's. While Zelda's or Mario's storylines may appeal to people of all ages, I have yet to see something focus just on the adult group. And, no, Resident Evil does not count seeing as how it's from Capcom. I just had to make an argument against Nintendo seeing as how not many people do!:p
I see it this way: Nintendo's games are for all ages. The company isn't in a position where it needs to specifically target older audiences. Also, Nintendo's strategy indicates that it tends to rely more on third parties for adult-oriented software. You may say "that's not from Nintendo", but I think it's irrelevant. The third party portion of the business is a part of Nintendo's whole approach. However, Nintendo is moving more in the adult direction. With titles such as Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness and Perfect Dark Zero...in actuality, Nintendo has no shortage of "in-house" adult software. :)
  14. Yeah...it's all worked out. I just hope that some members aren't too hard on Cruiz. Now he knows how I felt. lol Oh well...everyone should read JCBagee's (sp?) post...something good to continue the day with. :)
  15.
Originally posted by Nerdsy Okay, maybe I do take it too seriously. :wigout:
Yes, you take wrestling as seriously as ssjchic takes crumpets and English tea...:naughty: :drunk:
  16.
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy And for all of those who use the"it's fixed" thing, let me make something clear. Bookers don't just flip a coin and decide who wins. Pushes and marketing are determined by work ethic and crowd response. Before anyone makes judgements, it'd be best to look at the industry from the deeper standpoint and see past all of the "circus-like antics" hype. In short, um, I don't take wrestling seriously.
I have no illusions about wrestling. I realize that essentially, it's a combination of acting and athletic ability. But for the most part, I guess I don't want to watch something (in this context) when I know that everything they're saying is scripted...and that the ending is predetermined. I don't care how they determine/choreograph the match...it's just the fact that it isn't real/true draws me away from it and makes me dislike it. But as with movies or videogames...there are those who will enjoy it. :)
  17.
Originally posted by Nerdsy Okay James, I hate to be doing this, since everything I say will probably be chewed up and spit out... ^_^'' Wrestling is not 100% fake. Sure, the outcome is predetermined, but the wrestling is usually spontaneous. "Sissys"? Bahm most of the time they wrestle with injuries that would keep people in others sports out for a season. Take Mick Foley, for example. This guy wrestled with an injury that forced Bill Goldberg to retire from football. Have you ever seen his infamous "Hell in a Cell"? There is no way a sissy could have done that... And the Undertaker wrestled that with a broken foot. Triple H tore something in his leg (quadricep?) and wreslted for 5-10 minutes in unbearable pain. And I don't think over-preened sissys would take a stink-face form Rikishi... :P
The biggest problem with the Internet is that sarcasm doesn't come across well. Nerdsy, I frankly couldn't care less. lol I don't watch wrestling, I only know that the outcome is predetermined and that the stories are obviously fake. Now, this isn't intended to bash wrestling. I'm just giving reasons as to why I don't enjoy it. However, I can understand that there is quite a lot of athletic skill involved. In short: I'm kidding. Your post only proved my point that people take sport waayyy too seriously. lol ;) :)
  18.
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy Bringing in the nWo was a very controversial political maneuver. Hall, Hogan and Nash were both notorious for pulling strings in the back in order to benefit themselves. Right now, guys like Edge and RVD are probably biting their nails, knowing that they won't be getting a main event push anytime soon with the arrival of the nWo.
Tee hee...I'm amazed at how seriously some people take wrestling! Especially since it's 100% fake. lol...I just can't watch a match without thinking "this match already has a predetermined outcome". And they're such sissys...ugh. All preened etc lol... I think it's really funny...and to this day, I still wonder why people get so into it. Oh well, I guess it's the same as Aussie rules football (which people go nuts over...yet it's such a pointless thing to go nuts over that the insanity boggles the mind).:tasty: :drunk:
  19. Sorry, but we've already had this topic. :)

  21.
Originally posted by BOBB Correct me if I'm mistaken, but aren't, like, almost half of the 2000 banned members? That's what James told me a while back.
No, Tec-9...half our members are not banned. But now you're one of those who are. :) Few of our total memberbase has a "banned" status. Very few, infact...perhaps around 5%.

    Sonic!!
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy  Dude, it's the same exact thing but with a few new multiplayer options.
And new levels, new multiplayer options/features as well as an all-new GBA-compatible link mode with several mini-games and downloadable events. :p I'd call it a "Sonic Adventure 2 Expansion Pack" hehe...
  23. James

    Sonic!!

I am dissappointed. It annoys me that they included the various Robotnik/Tails and Knuckles/Rouge levels. They sucked. They beyond sucked...they were terrible/awful/horrible/disgusting/poor/gross/feeble/inadequate. The sonic/shadow levels, however, were fantastic. The ENTIRE game should have been more like that: more like the old Sonic games...but in 3D. I would have been much happier with that. :)
  24.
Originally posted by Voodookanaka not if your a slow typer like myself (for reasons i do not wish to divulge, but some ppl know) y do u think u americans started spelling words like colour as color, and socialisation as socialiZation, words are evolving so to speak, ones that are of little use are dying out, ppl instinctivly spell words how they sound as u are taught from an early age, the new shorter txt language will take over eventually. a literal war of the words.
Well, for starters...I'm not American. lol I would absolutely hate it if the world began to write in the way that some type. Your words also loose a great deal of expression and meaning when you type like that as well. They aren't only not as clear, but some of them are physically not actual words. I can understand why people would type like that on say..SMS. But on the Internet, it's mostly avoidable. If you are a slow typer...that's okay...but maybe you could take more time with your posts. I mean, it's not like you are rushing to get your post done in time for your first visit to outer space lol. In any case, no matter how you try to justify it...it looks stupid. So even though it might save time or what not, it comes off as being slightly pointless to most people. It's okay sometimes...but some members on OtakuBoards use text abbreviations in conjunction with poor spelling & grammar. And that only makes the typing itself worse. lol
  25.
Originally posted by Voodookanaka sorry but words are just 1 method of communication, u can not judge a person by the way they speak or type. I only ever use my extended vocabulary when necessary, wheres the problem in talking in the best way to get a point accross to ppl of um...lesser knowledge (dumb asses and regular folk) its not lazyness its a way of saving time, space on txt msgs so u dont go over word count, spelling words how they actually sound (u americans should know this with your spelling)
Save time? What...an extra five seconds? lol That post, based on its language and spelling...gives the impression of stupidity, whether you like it or not. So you see...people aren't judging the actual person based on how they type...but we're saying that it looks poor/lazy/stupid, etc...
