WRC or GT3?
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy Grand Theft Auto 3 is more of an action game. Many of the missions require you to get out of the vehicle and complete tasks. Furthermore, the abundance of mini games add diverse styles(there's even a Crazy Taxi knock off).
I believe Gohan was referring to GT3...as in, Gran Turismo 3. :) I can't say which I prefer -- I'd say GT3 only because of its sheer depth and accuracy in driving. Though I'm really looking forward to V-Rally 3...it looks incredible. I can't wait to see more of it.
  2.
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy What about the father's rights? It's obvious that a male bears part of the responsibility in creating the life, so technically shouldn't he also have a say in the child's destiny?
That is a very good point to raise within the context of this discussion. I believe that the father essentially has no rights when it comes to the decision of whether or not to abort -- and I say that only because while the baby might be 50% of the father's genes, so to speak, it's still a parasite on the woman's body. So it still remains her choice, whether people like it or not. But the child's destiny is a slightly different area. The question is really, what role does the father play in deciding to abort the child? By that I mean, if the father is prepared to play an active role in the child's life...does that/should that influence the mother's choice? A lot of fathers don't live up to their responsibilities. So I personally think that many fathers have much to answer for in this area.
  3.
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy Hey now, I don't want to turn this into another GameCube vs. Xbox thread, but some of the things you said put you on a lower level yourself. If you don't think that there are other good games, then you obviously haven't played Max Payne, NBA 2K2, DOA3, New Legends, Jet Set Radio Future, Genma Onimusha, Project Gotham Racing, or NFL2K2. That list of games includes both good and great games. Also, stating that the Xbox is like a computer is as unacceptable as claiming that GameCube is a children's machine.
I think Kuja was primarily talking about first-party software. And let's face it, Microsoft is dead in the water in this regard. Third party software is, as always, a different issue. With regard to the PC comment, I must disagree. The games on GameCube are no more "kiddie" than they are on Xbox -- the only difference is a general lack of gore/violence in GameCube games. I'll challenge anyone to prove me wrong on that point. Secondly, the Xbox IS essentially a stripped-down PC. Now, that isn't necessarily a statement designed to bash the Xbox. Many would see this element of the console as a positive aspect (especially with regard to online gaming and such). But the fact does remain that the Xbox is the most "PC-like" of any current generation console, particularly in a technical/hardware sense. Whether or not this is a bad thing is truly up to the individual gamer.
  4.
Originally posted by Defcon5 Comparing flowers to humans? I think that is pretty moot. If human cells shouldn't be considered higher then plant cells then why should a baby out of the womb be considered higher then one in the womb. That baby could also grow up and have a family to depend on it just like the person walking on the street. Someone walking past another person on the street is not a chance for a baby. And I don't know about everyone else but I think that a woman getting an abortion after a cocieving it during casual sex is wrong. If they are raped or the mom could die giving birth then that's another story.
I'm not comparing flowers to humans. I'm comparing fetuses to flowers. There is a difference between a newly-developing bunch of cells and a fully-formed human child. :) And yes, the baby could end up having the family to depend on etc etc...but sometimes the unborn baby is better off not being born. Especially in a situation whereby the parents are unable to look after the child, or if the child has some sort of genetic condition. Remember: not all parents are good parents. :) Also, the walking along the street thing wasn't a rebuttal to you directly -- I'm trying to say that the whole argument of when life starts or doesn't start is utterly pointless. And I don't agree with a woman aborting just because she had casual sex and behaved foolishly. But if the woman were very young (say 15/16) then in that situation, I may support the idea. But yeah, if the mother was raped or in danger of dying...then yes...you have no right to tell her what to do. But also, even if she had casual sex and had a baby...even if you don't agree with her reasons for aborting, you STILL have no right to tell her she can't do it. It's a slipperly slope: when you tell people how to use their own bodies, you're getting into a very dangerous area. :)
  5. Yes, as predicted...this topic will be closed. We have had countless threads ...and really, this is totally pointless. If you want to know someone's AIM name, simply click on their profile. If they don't want you to know their AIM name...then they won't have put it on their profile. Therefore, it's all very simple. :) Just put your AIM name in your profile and these topics will no longer be needed.
  6.
Originally posted by Smoky Joe Remember that you were once a fetus and you could have been chopped into pieces (another common method for abortion).
Uh...no, that isn't a method for abortion. :) Perhaps for a backyard abortion (which no abortionist would approve of anyway). That "fact" is just a common example of propaganda used to scare pro-choice people. It has no basis in truth. Having said that, the argument you bring up is also fairly moot. You're talking about an adult person (one who may have children relying on them, who will no doubt have a family they are leaving behind) who is being physically attacked and murdered. The situation is different with abortion. In this situation, you're talking about a physiological condition whereby a parasitic being is attached to the mother's body. The parasite is effectively living off the mother's body. Therefore, in this situation, the mother as the host has the option to choose whether or not she wishes to act as host to that fetus. A simple act of murder is very different. Also, do you know the fetus personally? Have you had conversations with it? You're talking about (in most cases) a bunch of cells rather than a human being. You may think my last point was pointless...and you'll probably say "no, but it's still a human life" etc...but that brings me back to my original argument. The basis of the anti-choice argument is "but it's life". If that's the case, then, as I said...don't pick flowers, eat meat or kill hair lice. All of these things are life...and the hair lice is a parasite. Why should human cells be classed differently than the cells of other organisms? Of course, if you took a born child and murdered it...that would be very different (or if the baby was almost fully developed). But before the baby is technically a human being (first trimester), it's really a case of apples and oranges, so to speak. You're talking about a living thing, yes...but you have to draw a definition. People also talk about "potential life". But how far can this concept go? I mean, a man and a woman passing each other in the street could even be considered "potential life" or "a baby waiting to happen". As you can see...it all gets a bit ridiculous when you think about it. And I'm sure that a woman who's just found out she's pregnant...and who has either suffered rape or who is pretty ill due to pregnancy would not appreciate you telling her that she isn't allowed to make a choice about her own body. :)
  7.
Originally posted by Gohan *sits in a ball in the corner sucking his thumb* Fine, be like that. Always picking on ps2 and all.
I suspect that you haven't read a word I've said (or haven't understood any of it). I'm actually a PS2 supporter -- I own a PS2 and I'm very pleased with it. I believe I also mentioned that PS2 wasn't suffering from lack of games to the extent of GameCube and Xbox... Picking on PS2? If you say so. :)

  10.
Originally posted by Gohan I should be excited that a RE game is coming to PS2. Instead, I am sad that my parents won't ever let me connect to the net with my systems. Is it anything more that just online?
They've provided no details about RE: Online just yet. But I'd say that it's 100% online (like FFXI). If you want an offline RE game, you'd have to buy the GameCube versions. I think Capcom is only making this game on PlayStation 2 because Sony has already launched its network in Japan (and will momentarily launch it in the USA and Europe).
  11. This discussion is utterly pointless. Anything can be a sport as long as it involves competition. Does a sport need to have a ball? No. Does it need to have teams/groups of players? No. How do you define "sport"? Consider that everything from skiing to auto-racing to jumping hurdles is considered sport... As long as it's competitive, it can be a sport. :) They even have turtle races and washing machine races these days...and in New South Wales, I've heard that they race cows occasionally (and sheep in New Zealand). So yeah, anything can be a sport ;)
  12.
Originally posted by Gohan Always bashing the 'station and the 'box, eh? God, u kno the GameCube is no different. They are about the same. I'm not saying ps2 or xbox is better, but i m not saying gc is either. Anyway. I ges no one is siding with me, so in conlusion, i ges gc is being "secretive," and they just want fans to be surprised. Fine, whateva...
I'm not particularly saying that the GameCube hardware is superior, I'm talking specifically about games. As for the "game shortage", I do agree that there is a shortage of software at the moment. But the same is also largely true for PS2 and Xbox as well (though probably less so for PS2). This just isn't a big sales period for consoles at the moment. This time of the year is always the most quiet time. Come summer, you will definitely see a lot of big game releases. :)
As gaming magazines collect their demos of the raw games of many companies and systems, there is one company who will not give out anything at all. This is, ironically, Nintendo. Whether this means that they are falling way behind on getting their games out, or if they think this is all going to be a big surprise, they are slowly but surely getting a new reputation in the gaming world as being a lazy company. Why won't they share their plans? Why are they hiding their preview games? Why arn't they letting their finished games be reviewed by gaming magazines before released in stores? This is something we are going to have to figure out on our own fokes, if Nintendo doesn't tell us what is going on.
Let me address this bit by bit, shall I?
As gaming magazines collect their demos of the raw games of many companies and systems, there is one company who will not give out anything at all. This is, ironically, Nintendo.
How can you assume that Nintendo won't give out anything at all? Nintendo is actually very cooperative when it comes to dealing with magazines and online publications. The reason Nintendo isn't as forthcoming? Oh, that's easy. SEGA continually blabs about everything it's doing, and the result is that Sony comes out with a better (yet similar) product a short time later. Funny, isn't it? Nintendo deliberately keeps its mouth shut so that its competitors don't steal its ideas. Good plan, I'd say (despite the frustration to gamers).
Whether this means that they are falling way behind on getting their games out, or if they think this is all going to be a big surprise, they are slowly but surely getting a new reputation in the gaming world as being a lazy company.
How do you know that they are getting this kind of reputation in the gaming world? Have you surveyed other game developers? Or have you interviewed many gamers to get their opinions? I doubt it. In actuality, Nintendo tends to have a reputation as being one of the world's most innovative game makers. That said, anyone who knows about the industry (even if they don't like Nintendo's games), will also understand that Nintendo keeps its ideas very secret until the last minute, in order to avoid having competitors steal ideas. Nintendo is the last company to be considered lazy -- Shigeru Miyamoto had to miss several important expos during the development of Ocarina of Time to ensure that it was finished. He is now supervising more than 30 in-house projects. If you want to call that kind of dedication lazy, go right ahead. :)
Why won't they share their plans? Why are they hiding their preview games? Why arn't they letting their finished games be reviewed by gaming magazines before released in stores?
Lemme go down the list: 1) As mentioned, they won't share their plans because they wish to avoid having their ideas stolen by competitors. This is a more common occurance than you might expect. 2) They aren't hiding their preview games. Nintendo will be revealing Zelda and Mario Sunshine at E3 in May this year -- well ahead of release date (which will be later in the year). 3) Nintendo do let finished games get reviewed by magazines before release. I don't see how you can come up with this question -- Nintendo doesn't hold back completed games from being examined by gaming media. They've never done it, and I doubt they ever would.
This is something we are going to have to figure out on our own fokes, if Nintendo doesn't tell us what is going on.
With all due respect, I think most people who visit these forums have worked out the basics. Everyone here would understand that Nintendo keeps its ideas close to its chest - this is the secret of a successful gaming company. You should read up more on Nintendo so that you have a better understanding of how the company operates. Nintendo isn't doing anything differently in a business sense to the way it has behaved with N64 or SNES. Unless you're a shareholder, you don't need to know what's going on. :) Nintendo releases information when it feels that the information is accurate and when the game previews themselves are in a playable state. Unlike some developers who merely reveal a game at some 10% completion level (and then the game totally changes upon release...or ends up being crappy), Nintendo prefers the first impression to be a good one; that is, they reveal a game when it is at a stage where it is ready for public consumption and where the fundamentals of the game are prepared. In the end, I would rather know less...and have better games as a result, than know every detail and end up having something which perhaps doesn't meet my expectations.

  14.
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy Well, there a couple of problems with what you said. You can't really judge how many games are in development by EGM because Nintendo isn't giving EGM a whole lot to work with. Furthermore, we're still pretty fresh off of the holiday season. I'll bet you a nickel that once Summer rolls there'll be a lot of quality titles(Star Fox Adventures, Wrestlemania 2001). I'm such a mark for wrestling! And you say that compared to the competition they are progressing slowly? I have an Xbox and there's not a darn thing to play either besides Raw and the initial games(already have Max Payne for PC). Playstation 2 has been out for quite a while and has a larger user base, so it's a little unfair to judge.
I agree completely. Kizu, you absolutely wreak of fanboy. ;) For every good GameCube game, there are three poor PS2 games and ten terrible Xbox games. And since most people are only buying maybe one or two games a month, it's not like it's such a terrible loss. :) When summer rolls around, you'll really be eating your words (as now is traditionally the calmest time in the gaming industry, meaning - no releases).
  15. I'm utterly pissed that they are using that stupid super computer cliche...*sigh* Can't someone ever make a video game based movie without totally screwing it up?
  16.
Originally posted by Deus_Ex_Machina and in my opinion, 'An animal or plant which lives in or upon another organism and draws its nutriment directly from it', is a pretty accurate description of a fetus, so yeah, 'parasite' is probably the best word to use. Just to clear that up for anyone who might argue with that.
Yep. Thanks for that, Dues. Nice to see that the term wasn't jumped on like I thought it may have been -- very good. Also, I wonder why we tend to elevate a fetus to a position greater than its host. I mean, if you are to let the mother die for example...she is leaving behind family...possibly other children...a husband...there is much more suffering to be had from the mother's death than that of the unborn fetus. But also, why do we elevate the fetus to such a God-like status? When most abortions occur, they usually occur well before the fetus has developed into a child. If you're going to argue about the "murder of the fetus", then you should also make sure you don't pick flowers (as you're murdering the plants), eat meat (as you're murdering the animals) etc etc... Some may argue that a fetus has more rights than plants or animals. But if it isn't a developed human being, then I beg to differ.
  17.
Originally posted by Gilly i like blink 182 and linklin park oh and james not to be mean but that was really rude to say that linklin park is just backstreet boys with guitars but i agree with u on the catagory they are in i think they are more punk then rock/heavy metal. :)
Erm, sorry if it seemed rude...but it's so very true lol. Linkin Park are basically the equivalent of Britney Spears but with guitars and drums...lol. They're very pop rock. Not that it's a bad thing mind you. It's just that I am annoyed when people try to take them as something that they aren't, namely, heavy metal.
  18. As I'm not a woman, I don't feel qualified to speak with authority on the subject. And I don't think any men have the right to dictate to a woman how they should or should not use their bodies. Having said that, I spoke to my own mother about this issue -- she is pro choice. She basically pointed out that a baby (whether living/not living) is still essentially a parasitic creature, which relies on its "host" (the mother). Therefore, it is the host which has the right to decide the outcome of the situation. Childbirth can be dangerous for both mother and baby -- but baby can often have a much more difficult time trying to survive. While I'm against abortion in principle, I also understand that as the host, it is the mother's right to decide whether or not she wishes to allow the parasite to live or die. I don't use the word parasite in a bad way -- I'm using it as a technical term. Therefore, it must always be the mother's choice. Even if another man or woman disagrees -- it's just not their business. It's like piercings or something...they are often unhealthy and some people feel that they're ugly, but the person who uses them has the right to decide how they use their own body. Perhaps that's not the best example when it comes to comparing something with abortion, but I do feel that parallels can be drawn in the sense that a woman's body is her own and nobody else's.
  19. Saron began arranging some of the books. Saron: This northern continent is not under the juristiction of any of the Kingdoms or Cities on the mainland... Karu: So? Saron: So...your safety is not certain. Chole: If that is the case, how are you able to live peacefully in this temple? Especially if you're surrounded by monsters and dark magic... Saron: The Temple of the Ancients is sealed with very powerful magic. Infidels cannot get in our out... Chole: But we got in... Saron: Yes, but you were with Sephiroth. I believe that our shield was ineffective against him. Chole: Why? Saron: I'm not sure exactly...I think Sephiroth may at least be partly an Ancient...his genes may carry some Ancient blood. Karu: This is all very confusing... Saron: The history of the world is confusing at best. This temple has been dedicated to the pursuit of truth and the study of the natural world for the last 4000 years. Chole: Why does nobody on the mainland know of this area? Saron: I feel it will only be a matter of time before this temple is discovered by outsiders. The Solhara City Government is becoming very technologically advanced...they have been sending naval patrols to the north to explore the coastline here. So far, they haven't seen our temple...but who knows when they'll discover us. Karu: You sound like you're worried about them discovering your people... Saron: Power is corrupt. The Metropods hold the balance of power in the world...they are the dominant race on Terraforma. They are continually extending their influence and reach around the planet. Eventually, they may try to take over the other races on Terraforma...and they may perhaps try to conquer us, too. Sephiroth: But you said your shield will not let in infidels...or non-Ancients... Saron: That is correct, but one can never know how far technology will go. Solhara City Government officials are continually experimenting with anti-magic technologies. If they are successful, everything we hold dear could die out... Saron finished arranging the books and continued walking down the corridor, flanked by the others. Saron: We have tried to maintain order and balance here. The magic which flows from this temple is what has created the thick mist around this continent, to shield us from invaders. Our magic also keeps all living things alive...even in the face of pollution and corruption. Karu: I've noticed that the planet seems to be changing though...plants are dying... Saron: Yes, it's very unfortunate. But it doesn't mean that we aren't successful. There are outside forces which are trying to tamper with us. These forces are trying to uncover our secret...and they are trying to reveal us to Solhara and others who may seek to destroy us. Sephiroth: Who would seek to destroy you? Saron: I-I can't talk about it right now...she might hear... Sephiroth: Who might hear? Saron: Nobody. Don't worry...now isn't the time to discuss this. Please stay at our guest quarters before you leave... Saron glanced nervously around the room and made her way out of the main entrance. The others gave each other puzzled looks. What did all this mean? And who else besides Solhara City would be trying to interfere with the Temple of the Ancients?
