I'll find you a place to live ::kills neighbors:: Oh look a free opening lol
Gah, for a moment I thought you were talking about me. :p Anyhoo...Lady M, maybe this could be a good opportunity to take a Florida vacation! :) You could use this to escape the troubles of daily life for a little while. I'd love to take a vacation to another state... Although I know you can't just pack up and leave. I guess the very least you can do is talk to your bro via the 'net...or on the phone. I'm sure he'll come and visit you as well. :)
Originally posted by BabyGirl Actually, what she is saying about older members who do not have a staffing position is accurate, and it's unfair of us to disregard that. I met (and frequently talked to) someone on v2 who was quite well known and had been around for a while. When we made the switch from v2 to v3, he didn't come around as much. When he did, and found that I had become a moderator...he decided to leave because I became a mod over him :(. Now, I felt really bad, even though I'm sure that wasn't the ONLY reason he left, but this was a well known, well liked member...and I sorta felt responsible...even though it wasn't my fault. My point being, there ARE older members who feel that way. Most of them just aren't willing to voice their opinion, for fear of sounding whiney or such. I think Blanko had a good point and I don't see why you are all saying that her post is irrelevant. She is only stating that people who celebrate their post count or spam to obtain a certain title are, well...stupid. Staff, I know you agree with that. No reason to cut her down for voicing that publically.
If she'd worded her post better, we may have found that out a little more easily. In any case, I do think it's very whiney of older members who are annoyed at "younger" members getting moderator positions ahead of them. It is a constant source of annoyance for me. These people may have been around longer, but do they deserve more than a newbie on that fact alone? No, of course not. We don't owe people a living just because they've been around for longer than some newbies. Sometimes, newbies have far higher quality posts than "oldies". It's like when we had the awards and Nerdsey was talking about how he used to win awards and such...now I know he probably wasn't, but it felt like he was saying "I've been around for ages...I deserve SOMETHING.". That's just the impression which comes across. And that attitude annoys me because it's like a superiority complex: "I'm better than you and I deserve more than you because I've been around longer". I really hope that this kind of attitude with some members stops.(not necessarily Nerdsey, I just pointed him out because I remembered that post) .

Now if that is wrong sue me ;) cause i wanna worship her all night long :) anyway i know what she is saying... a lot of newbies do spam and we as mods do threaten them to stop or be banned i am guilty of some of this. but that is my understanding of my job... i went to another boards... and had a little fun... they all told me not to spam which was funny to me... but i mean it was there job to do it... and well i can see as to how someone could take offense of it
Yeah but it's not like we just arbitrarily pick on newbies. That's not the case at all. Newbies are important -- they bring some much-needed freshness to the discussions here. Of course, some newbies are idiots -- they come here just to spam the place up. But it's not like we unfairly pick on newbies.
Originally posted by liamc2 *sigh* hasn't this been done before? any how, being a newbie doesn't matter, its the person behind the status that counts, rank doesn't matter really, only if you want a custom avatar, but like i said, its the person behind the ranks that counts. .
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy And as far as Micheal Vitale goes, I don't want to be mean or anything pal, but judging by your posts, I wouldn't exactly say that you're too far above the twelve and under range. Don't preach anything about GameCube hosting kid's games, when legally you couldn't buy the adult games like RE, anyway.
I agree with you! I find it SOO ironic that people who complain about GameCube having kids games are people who aren't old enough to legally buy mature rated games anyway!! lol. It's so funny. That's why I love the irony of Xbox and GCN fans. Many Xbox fans are under 15, while many GCN owners are over 18. It's really funny that in life, it's the opposite which is actually the case.

No one has to answer this question, but...
James replied to BondFanatic's topic in General Discussion
Well, Stalin was hardly a good person. He put thousands of his own people in re-education camps for one thing. And he was paranoid -- he'd have members of his own Government assassinated if he thought they might turn on him. I'd say that they're all as bad as each other, but in some ways, Hitler was the worst. I say this simply because he achieved more destruction and persecution than Osama bin Laden -- even though bin Laden has the potential to do things like that, but probably won't. -
The car fell silent, upon Alpha's outburst. Alpha decided it was probably best not to let his outbursts affect the group's morale -- afterall, they were perhaps the only group who could stop the terrible developments in Meteo City. But negative thoughts soon faded from the group's mind; as they were only a few metres away from the shore of Celes. Alpha concentrated on the flickering lights on the dashboard. He carefully eased the car down onto the Celes Flight Deck. Lynd suddenly realized how large Celes actually was. It had looked fairly small from the other shore, but up close, it looked absolutely huge -- and almost alien. The Celes Flight Deck contained several hundred parking spaces for cars. Toward the west of the flight deck, Lynd could see a sprawling beach, which was full of hybrid tourists. He could see people flying kytes, building sandcastles and burying aggrivated relatives in the sand. Lynd and the others got out of the car after much shuffling and curse words (it's never a good idea to travel in a small car with a large group of people). He stretched and felt the warm breeze run through his fur. Chole walked over to him and patted him on the shoulder. Chole: C'mon, I know a place where we can stay. Lynd smiled. Lynd: Okay. Chole, Lynd, Ralvenar, Alpha, Iris and Mike stepped down from the slightly raised flight deck and onto Coastal Boulevard, the most expensive street in all of Celes. The street was absolutely packed with hybrids. It didn't seem as though there were many humans about at all. And unlike Meteo City, this particular street didn't seem to have any hotdog vendors or fruit carts, but rather, it was lined with all sorts of expensive restaurants and boutiques. Chole raised his arm and touched a button on his small wristwatch. Two little lights flashed in unison and all of a sudden, several thin beams of light eminated from the screen. They arranged themselves in a pattern in mid-air; a holographic map of Celes. Lynd: You need a map? But I thought you'd been here before? Chole: Not for a while, my friend. Not for a while. Alpha: So where are we staying, anyway? My feet are killing me... Chole: I have a relative here. My aunt Faye. She lives on the other side of the city. Ralvenar: Is she a good cook? I'm starving!! Iris (rolls eyes): We're on a mission to stop the HHSD of Meteo City and all you can think of is food?! Ralvenar: Well aren't you hungry? Iris: Yeah, I guess I am... Chole interjected... Chole: Yes, yes. She's a good cook. Don't worry, we'll be having a good meal tonight. The holographic map dissappeared within the watch and Chole pointed toward one of the smaller streets which connected to Coastal Boulevard. Chole: That way. Let's go! The group followed behind Chole as he crossed the cobblestone street to the footpath on the other side of the road. They approached the small street, which was called "Silverpoint Way". Lynd soon saw why; the edges of the street were lined with shiny silver railings, and the signs on all the storefronts had large, silver signwriting. Lynd: Why's everything silver like that? Chole (shrugs): I guess it's just tradition. One person does it, then everyone else follows. The group walked for at least an hour, Silverpoint Way never seemed to end. They passed countless cafes, bars and nightclubs until finally, they reached a pier, which was sticking out for several metres from the edge of the island. Lynd: Uhh, there's nothing here. Chole: Yeah, there is. To save space on the island, many of the apartments are underwater. Follow me... Chole walked over to a platform which was sitting over the water. It appeared to be floating -- its underside was glowing green, indicating some kind of anti-gravity field...similar to what Chole's car had used to cross the bay. Chole and the others stepped onto the metal platform, which had a small switchboard on the end of a metal rod in the corner. It read, simply: PLATFORMS COMPANY LIMITED ANTI-GRAVITY ELEVATOR PLEASE SELECT YOUR DESIRED OPTION: UP DOWN Chole pushed the "Down" button. The platform shuddered a little and slowly began sinking. Lynd realized that the platform was open in the air, and that he had no breathing device to travel underwater. Lynd: Hey uhh...aren't we going to drown here?! Don't you have some kind of oxygen mask or something? Iris: Don't worry, Lynd. You'll be fine. Lynd nervously held onto the rail on the side of the platform as the water began to lap at the edges of the floor. Lynd closed his eyes, bracing himself. But he felt nothing. All was silent. And he was completely dry. He opened his eyes and saw water right infront of him. He reached out and touched it. He pulled his hand back and, just as he had thought, it was wet. Why wasn't the water collapsing in on them? It was as if the platform was carving a solid shaft of air in the bay itself. It was incredible -- no doubt another use for anti-gravity technology. As the platform lowered, Lynd had to rub his eyes. He couldn't believe what he saw below them. The sea floor was dotted with little houses. Most of the houses only seemed to have one or two windows, but there were hundreds -- nay, thousands of houses. It looked like the entire sea bed was carpeted with little glowing yellow lights. As the platform moved down further, Lynd could see someone waiting at the docking station (which appeared to "avoid" the water around it, in the same way that the anti-gravity elevator did). It was an old lady, no doubt Chole's aunt Faye... (I hope that wasn't too long or anything lol...but feel free to continue it...:drunk: )

I don't know if Celes has been described before, if it has...then feel free to edit my post, Rico. lol I'll try my best to do it justice. :) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The rest of the journey to Celes was relatively quiet. Iris continued looking out the window, watching the tall buildings of Meteo City dissappear behind the horizon. She saw the harsh cement of city sidewalks being replaced by lush fields of wildflowers and rolling hills. The vehicle travelled up a long, winding path, which dipped down again and now, the group within the car could see a beautiful bay infront of them. The water glistened in the afternoon sunlight. Lynd: Hey...is that...Celes? Lynd looked through his window and saw a large island in the middle of the bay. Sitting on the island itself was one of the most beautiful villages that Lynd had ever laid eyes upon. He saw clean, bright, cobblestone streets, lined with houses of glass & concrete. The houses were small and old fashioned, yet to Lynd, they looked incredibly clean. He'd never seen such cleanliness in his entire life. Even Meteo City didn't compare -- Celes just looked so beautiful. As the car approached the shore, Lynd realized that there was no way they could actually land in Celes. There didn't appear to be any roads or pathways to the island. Lynd: Hey...how are we going to get to Celes? There's no bridge! Chole: Not a problem, Lynd. Chole smiled at Lynd and pressed a button on the steering wheel. A small stalk with a microphone on the end slid out of a sheath on the steering column. Chole leant forward and cleared his throat... Chole: Computer, enter flight mode. The on-board display panel on the dashboard flickered for a moment, scanning Chole's voice...making sure that the car hadn't been stolen. Computer: Request accepted. Please ensure that all occupants are wearing seatbelts and that the vehicle's windows are completely shut. Lynd's eyes boggled; he'd never seen something like this, despite living in a city as advanced as Meteo City. The car slowed down and stopped, as it reached the shore. Lynd could hear whirring noises from underneath him, as the car slowly raised several inches into the air. The tyres sank upward into little compartments, and were replaced by large spheres, which took up the entire wheel arch. The car sank back down onto the ground. For a moment, nothing happened. When suddenly, the spheres started to glow an eerie green colour. The car slowly rose up from the ground again and began silently and effortlessly floating forward, over the calm, blue water. Chole: I expect it will take about ten minutes to actually reach the island. Anti-gravity technology is only in its infancy...it's still rather slow. Lynd: Ahh. This is amazing...I feel like I'm in a dream. I've never seen such a beautiful place...have you been to Celes before? Chole: Oh yes, several times. Some of my family used to live here. Lynd scratched the back of his neck nervously and turned to face Chole... Lynd: Chole... Chole: Yeah? Lynd: I...I want to thank you. You saved my life. Chole smiled and put his hands behind his head, relaxing. Chole: Oh, think nothing of it. I'm still as confused about this whole affair as you are...but I'm sure we can get to the bottom of it. Alpha: I sure hope so, I can't believe some of the things I saw... Ralvenar: Indeed. Meteo City is becoming very unstable. Lynd: I'm just happy to be free at last... Lynd turned and smiled at Alpha and Ralvenar. He turned back and sank down into his seat. He pressed a button on the side of his seat, which made the entire roof of the car slide back and fold up behind the rear seat. Lynd lay back and closed his eyes...letting the cool air caress his face. He'd never felt so free...so alive, and so safe. His feelings had changed over the past few hours...now he didn't feel like dying. He didn't want to give up. Here he was, in a car full of strangers...but perhaps these people weren't so strange. They were like him and they too, had the same fears and concerns that he did. He had found new friends. And perhaps, just perhaps, he and his new friends were going to be okay...
Originally posted by Shinji v2.0 Wrong. No matter what scale it is on, it's illegal. People just don't get prosecuted for making copies of a CD for friends. If all of the titles Gendo was offering were unlicensed, there wouldn't be a problem (it's still technically illegal, but we fansubbers have found what you might call a loophole in the law -- as long as there is no money involved then it's kosher), but what he's offerening is mostly licensed...hence the problem...
Agreed. Technically, distributing copies of copyrighted materials is illegal (even taping movies off TV is technically illegal, but obviously, it isn't enforced). But I do object to people mass-distributing copyrighted materials.
Originally posted by Heaven's Cloud Now I don't find this anymore of a theft then I find making a copy of a CD for a friend...but maybe I just have messed up morals...
It depends though. If you copied a CD and gave it to your friend for free...while that is technically theft, I find it acceptable. But if you distributed on a large scale, I would object to that. That's the kind of theft which could really left companies out of pocket.
Originally posted by Shinji v2.0 Yea, but the difference between me and you is that I actually buy DVDs, and support companies, whereas you just rob them. Tolerance and acceptance are two of the most admirable and courageous qualities that a person can posess, in my opinion. Sometimes it can be hard to accept something that you don't understand, or are afraid of. But when people overcome that fear, they realize that there is a whole lot more to life. It's always great to see people who can truly look past their insecurities and see people for who they really are.
Originally posted by Defcon5 I all of those mature games don't really appeal to me. What I mean is games that have less of the cutsie feel to it. I don't mean the game have a mature rating. But it's general atmosphere. I would like to see an adventure game like Mario that doesn't have cute wooldand creature trying to save the world. Don't get me wrong I enjoy playing Mario games. Zelda was a good example of what I like until they changed it.
Well, that's what I'm talking about: games with a less cutsie feel. I mean, how is Agent Under Fire cutsie? Anyway, it's not like you have very long to wait for games like this. Also, I think you're dramatically overstating the "cuteness" of Nintendo's games. Just look at Mario Sunshine -- no furry woodland creatures there. And don't even start on Zelda lol. Were you at Space World? Nope. You're basing your judgement on the Link character model, which I'm sure will be changed. I don't see how the rest of the game is cutsie at all...sure it's cel-shaded, but so was Jet Set Radio. The cel-shading ads a touch of old-school charm to the game (for those of us old enough to remember the originals). In any case, I really think you're whining about nothing. A good game is a good game. If you want something gory or "adult", then go and buy Max Payne or Quake or something for your PC while you wait for some new GameCube games.
Originally posted by Defcon5 I hope your right. But what I mean by them lising to gamers I mean they need MORE games that are for the older audiance. I know a game doesn't have to be mature and all to be good. I'm not saying that E rated games are bad or anything just that they should have some more mature games on the council(lol sp). I hope people understand what I'm trying to say.
But there are heaps of "mature" games there. Everything from Bloody Roar and Agent Under Fire to Spyhunter and the various sport/arcade games. I don't see what your problem is there. And besides, I find it funny how the kids who probably aren't legally old enough to buy games like GTA3 are the only ones who CARE about mature games. I often find that 18+ gamers can see the fun games as they are, regardless of rating or content.
Originally posted by Defcon5 This list displeases me. There is not one game on this list that I want to buy. I am starting to lose faith in Nintendo. There past success has made them think that they can do whatever the hell they want and still prevail in the council war. They really need to start listining to the gamers wants and not just what they think would be good. Because that kind of attitude will lose the war for them. I'm not giving up on Nintendo. Just dissapointed.
Okay well I think you're being far too quick to judge. Nintendo are listening to gamers, moreso than any other game company in the entire world. That's why GameCube is what it is -- a purebred gaming console. You don't get much higher consumer-based product than that. In any case, you're reading a list which was compiled over the last month. This list will change within only a few weeks time. It could quite easily be twice as large by the end of January. Remember: a lot of third party companies have not yet revealed their GameCube projects, as GameCube is only new to the market and thus, many games are still in development. The best time for GameCube (the time when it truly hits its stride), will be in the 3rd and 4th quarters of this year. That's when you'll start seeing the huge, console-selling launches (Resident Evil One, Mario Sunshine, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid Prime, Perfect Dark Zero) etc etc. So I wouldn't be worried. In a year's time, you'll be incredibly thankful that you purchased a GameCube in the first place. :)

My cousin has had various mental problems in the past and for a while she was actually getting better. But now she's slowly going downhill. Some days she'll be mostly fine, but other days, she'll be involved in a conversation and talking absolute rubbish. Sometimes my aunt has to stop and say "What are you talking about?". She doesn't do it to be mean, but sometimes my cousin gets a bit ahead of herself and needs to be kind of reminded to think about what she's saying. In any case, I would not be in favor of aborting a mentally ill child. However, as has been said, it depends on the extent of the illness. If I had a child who was going to be born blind and deaf...as well as having physical problems, then I would probably be in favour of abortion in that scenario. I mean, why bring a child into the world when their entire life will be nothing but pain and suffering? Nuh uh. Sometimes death is a humane way of preventing lifelong hell. That's why I hate the whole "God doesn't intend for it" rubbish. I'm sure God wouldn't want a severely problematic child going through their entire life suffering, either. If you believe in God, then you also believe that if you aborted such a severely handicapped child, God would welcome that child into his loving arms and they'd never feel an ounce of pain. I'm not religious, but even I can see things from that point of view. In any case, if the problem was relatively minor...such as only blindness, only deafness or only other small problems, then there is no way I'd be in favour of abortion. The handicap is only what you make of it. And as has been said, you have to look past the problem and look at the person underneath. When I went to visit my cousin in a psychiatric hospital when she was at her most sick stage, I met a lot of people there who had various mental problems. And you know, they were the funniest, most insightful people I'd ever met. They weren't inhibited by image or religion...they were just genuinely good people who loved talking to their visitors. :) Anyway, I've rambled a bit there...but those are my thoughts on the issue.

Dr. Swanson put the file back with the others, when she heard voices in the corridor outside. She turned and walked toward the door. She opened the door slightly and looked outside into the hallway. She could see that Ten's office had been broken into -- the door was sitting ajar and the handle was broken. She quietly closed the door to the file room. "Who are they? They must be trying to steal our information...I must stop them, it can't get out to the public!" she thought. Dr. Swanson ran for the exit on the other side of the room, when she felt an arm grabbing her around her waist, and a hand slipping over her mouth. She used all her energy to try and scream, but it was no good -- the strong figure from behind pulled her to the side of the room and clawed at her neck, killing her in an instant. Lynd dragged the body into an adjoining storage room and closed the door, jamming it shut behind him. He made sure to jam shut the other two doors in the room and he walked over to the intercom, which was connected to the wall next to the main entrance door. Lynd picked up the receiver and punched in the code for Ten's office. The intercom crackled to life... Lynd: Hey...everyone! Can you hear me?! Chole ran over to the intercom in Ten's office. He picked it up... Chole: Yes...I can hear you. Lynd, how in God's name did you get out?! Lynd: That doesn't matter now -- we have to escape from here! Chole: Yeah, I know. But we have to take some files as evidence... Lynd: Screw the damn files, Chole! I don't want to die here! Chole: Don't worry, we have plenty of time, as long as we're quiet... Lynd: No we don't! I just killed some professor lady here...and she has a biochemical scanner equipped to her, to detect if an intruder hurts her. There will be guards all over the place within twenty minutes! Chole: Oh man...this is bad. Okay, well, let's get going. I have a disc here containing more than enough information. Lynd: I'll wait for you here -- there's a compartment in the storage room which leads to a funnel that connects to the warehouse downstairs. The warehouse backs onto a street -- we can get away through there fairly easily. Chole: Okay, just a moment...

Hmm...there are a few good ones that I can think of. Jurassic Park/The Lost World These books are great. So much better than the movies...they go into quite some detail about the science of palaentology, as well as having some awesome parts that the movies didn't have. One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich This is a story about a guy called Ivan Denisovich, who was sent to a re-education camp in Russia, during the rule of Stalin. It's an awesome novel - one of my favourites. The entire book chronicles only one day...but it's so detailed. You get the impression of how terrible these camps really were. Brave New World I think I've talked about this book here before, but anyway...it too is an awesome book. It was written by Aldous Huxley in 1928, yet it demonstrates an incredible foresight into the future -- much of it is very accurate. It's very cool.

Ten walked out of his office into the main corridor. He walked down the corridor toward the security control room. "I've got to find a way to unlock those straps," he thought to himself. Just as Ten neared the end of the corridor, Dr. Swanson turned the corner and nearly walked right into him. Dr. Swanson was one of the chief medical officers at the Department of Health and Human Services. He oversaw many different public health projects and Ten suspected that he knew of the DHHS's plans to eradicate the hybrid gene pool. Dr. Swanson: Hello, Ten! What brings you here at this late hour? Ten checked the clock on the wall, which read "1:38 AM". Ten nervously ran his fingers through his hair, searching for an excuse. Ten: Oh, nothing. I'm just hear to check up on some of the experiments we've been conducting over the past few days. I wanted to get some reports from my desk and take them home to read. At first, Dr. Swanson didn't look like he'd buy the story -- but he did. Dr. Swanson: Oh...well, okay then. Hah, Ten...always working so late. So determined! I like that in my staff! Well, I might as well let you go about your business. See you later. Ten: Okay, bye for now, doctor. Dr. Swanson smiled and continued on his way down the corridor. Ten hoped that he wouldn't hear Iris and Chole talking in his office. He watched Dr. Swanson until he had turned the corner at the other end of the hall. Ten proceeded to move toward the security control room...
