Originally posted by Ice Dragon v2 Ah, it's been awhile since I posted this up. Well, it's time to see on the public's chioces and opinions again. 1. If you have heard about the first human cloned, do you agree that they should continue to research, drop it, or I don't give a crap?? If you have reasons, post them up.
They should most certainly continue research. The idea of cloning a few human cells (not even a whole embryo) in order to use stem-cells hits two birds with one stone. It effectively removes any religious/conservative arguments while at the same time providing ample supply of stem-cells to cure diseases like cancer, parkinsons disease, etc...
2. Do you think people who "intend" to bomb their own school is psycho or a madman???
It depends. If you just mention it as a joke...then that's ok. But if you carry it out...or start making plans...well..yeah, you're a psycho. lol
3. What is paradise to you??
Stroking my partner's hair in the moonlight. Heheh.
4. Do you want the war in Afghanistan to be over??? (Oh, believe me, people I know still want that war to go on)
The war should end when the allies have done their job -- removing the terrorists and the Taliban regime.
5. Even though it said that Nostradamus predicted a lot of major events, would you start believing him or just like "I don't care"?? Poust up reasons if you want to.
Nostradamus' predictions are highly questionable. 90% of them are re-fabricated by other people -- they take pieces of different quotes and put them together (like the WTC attack prediction, which turned out to be false).
6. Do you have a reason of your existence???
I don't think that there is a reason for existence, it's just the way things are. But for me personally...I don't really have my own reason to exist. I just try to live my life well and do the right thing by people.
7. What would you do if anthrax hits your town or one of it's resident's???
I'd be calm and I wouldn't panic. Anthrax is not contageous.
8. Just for the fun of it. Do you think I should have this kind of thread posted up once in a awhile??? :D :D
I think that perhaps this kind of thread can invoke some kind of worthy discussion...but let's not post one of these all the time over and over again lol. But every now and then is fine. :)
Originally posted by Vegitto4 I agree with you james, but, until the pirating is totally stopped, and it never will be, i am going to try not to buy the original if I can get it copied for cheaper, because i am one poor mofo. not really, but my dad got laid off, and now my family has no money until my dad gets a job. That might happen on saturday hopefully!!!
Well, if you're not part of the solution...you're part of the problem. Piracy will never stop as long as people keep pumping money into the black market. I know that there is a great temptation to pirate software...but if you are tempted to steal software from a computer store, do you do it? Nope. And buying pirated games are exactly the same thing...only worse, because you're paying the person who is copying 'em. It's your choice of course, but as Hiroshi Yamauchi said..."people won't kneel down in the streets and die if they don't have video games". Meaning, you don't need games/software...so there's no real reason to get them pirated.

Software piracy is easy/convenient, but it's also hypocritical. This is because most people buy pirate software due to its low price. However, when more and more software is pirated, software makers make less and less money. The result is that they push the prices of their software up...and subsequently, more people can't afford it, so they buy more pirated stuff. If there was no software pirating, you'd see prices of software come down dramatically. Also, pirating may seem okay...but sometimes great development studios run out of money because they make no profits...and when that happens, they have to close down and can't make anymore software (SNK is a great example of this). I don't buy any pirated software for two reasons. One is that if I buy a great new game from Square, Nintendo or Sega for example...I want those companies to get my money. After years of late nights and hard work...they deserve to be rewarded for their creative effort. It would be nasty of me to just steal from them after all that great work they put in...and piracy is basically stealing. Second, pirated software never comes with warranties or guarantees. It's often junk software which is printed on crappy quality discs. But basically, I would never pirate something like Final Fantasy or Mario...Square & Nintendo deserve the money they receive for their effort and genius. If I was Nintendo and I was making great games for people...spending night after night working late...only to have people steal from me...I'd feel pretty crappy. So yeah, I don't think I could bring myself to buy pirated stuff. It's especially low (in my opinion) to be a pirate software dealer. It's stealing on a mass scale. And there's nothing great about theft.

Despite people's opinions as to pro or anti GameCube...I thought I'd post this for the naysayers out there (and for those of us who are interested in anything gaming). This article is copied from http://cube.ign.com "Nintendo announced today that its GameCube platform is the fastest selling of the three next-generation systems. The company also declared that its flagship offering Luigi's Mansion is the most popular launch title in history. According to Nintendo, GameCube sold more than one-half million units during the first week of availability. The firm claimed that its machine sold at nearly twice the rate of Microsoft's Xbox system and 25 percent faster than Sony's PlayStation 2 when it debuted last year. Initial North American shipments numbered 740,000 hardware units. 100,000 systems went to Canada and Latin America and another 75,000 to US rental stores. Nintendo said that all of the 80 percent shipments to retailers have sold out, though new loads of 125,000 pieces are already arriving. "To have outpaced any other videogame console launch ever would be notable in its own right," said Peter Main, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Nintendo of America. "But to accomplish this under the current economic conditions is truly remarkable. There is a seemingly endless appetite for high quality, stay-at-home entertainment at an affordable price -- which is a perfect definition of Nintendo GameCube." Meanwhile, Nintendo alleged that its Luigi's Mansion game has sold at a phenomenal rate, even eclipsing debut sales of Super Mario 64 for its previous home platform. Star Wars Rogue Squadron: Rogue Leader II appears to be a strong second. "At a suggested retail price of $199.95, consumers can purchase Nintendo GameCube and two games for the same cost as rival, current generation game consoles alone. It's like getting two games for free," Main added. Even I didn't expect the GameCube to do this well, especially given the HUGE PlayStation 2 launch. If things continue, it could very well put Nintendo back in top position in future (ala SNES era). I'll certainly be interested to see what the December/Christmas sales are like. (And please, don't anyone turn this into a debate thread...it's merely a piece of news that some people (particularly cube owners) might be interested in).
Originally posted by coolkam007 >.< This is just my little rant against all fanboys.. not aimed at any of you in particular I'm sick of people that dislike a system for stupid (and often incorrect) reasons.. .. one example would be "because its made by Microsoft" or "GC is only for kiddie games" .. At school i said 'first after i get my gba, i'll probably get gamecube then x-box.. and ps2 eventually' Then i was practically attacked by my friends, with the same question "why would you want an X-box?" .. i stared at them for a second.. and then it struck me.. my friends are idiots.. lol. I told them that i wanted one because it looks like a good system and has some interesting looking games that i wanna try out. then, my friend said 'They arn't going to have any good games' .. i felt like smacking him ^_^ .. but i realized that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.. .. .. then just curious about what they had against the X-box, i asked 'why Wouldn't they want one?'.. and their simple.. yet biased answer was 'because its made by Microsoft' ... thats when i stopped talking to them about the subject.. .. trying to talk to a fanboy about a game for a different system is like trying to talk to a person with the IQ of 5.. dont get me wrong i'm not a hardcore X-boxer or anything.. i want all of the systems..
I agree with you 100%. I generally try to buy every console which comes out... And I find it really funny when I see two people arguing over PS2 vs Dreamcast. I own both, and so I can look at the situation objectively. I often find that someone who owns a PS2 will say all these things about Dreamcast...yet they themselves don't own one (and probably never played one). Or vice versa. I'm genuinely looking foward to a number of great Xbox games (mostly the SEGA titles for the machine) and I'm also very much looking foward to GameCube and its games. If I had to choose, I'd definitely buy GameCube (I still remember the first time I played Mario 64...the innovation left me totally flawed), however, I will try my best to buy both. Besides, if you are ever arguing against something...it's always good to know your opponent inside out. That's exactly a quality which fanboys don't seem to have.

A number of members and staff have expressed concerns to me about the Introduction, Test & Suggestion forums. The moderators of these forums, as well as other members, have said that they have noticed a number of people deliberately posting a lot of spam in these forums in order to increase post count. With that in mind, I have decided to make it so that any posts made in these three forums will not contribute to a person's post count whatsoever. I'm not sure if this change is retroactive, but if any of you have lost a significant number of posts, you will now know why. As always, I know that 99% of the members here are great and follow the rules very well. So if the changes affect anyone at all, it should only be a very small number. Thanks for your attention and happy posting. :)

I think that crying is a good way of unloading emotional baggage. I mean, think about it. If you're really sad...or terribly hurt...and you just hold it in, it kind of follows you around...and you can't get rid of it. But if you cry, don't you feel like a weight has been lifted? I'm kind of weird in that sense. I mean, I never cry with physical pain...I tend to just freeze...or shiver. lol. I often shiver if I've been physically hurt very badly. And if I ever cry, I don't seem to really bawl lol. I mean, I never make any noise...I just get tears. The only times I remember crying recently was when I went to a friend's funeral a few years ago...he was standing on the sidewalk, and a drunk driver mounted the sidewalk and ran into him. He died in his father's arms too...it was really sad. :( And the second time was when I was watching the WTC towers incident on TV. I saw it live...and when the towers came down, I definitely felt tears rolling down my cheeks. So yeah, I mostly cry when it comes to emotional things like that. But I don't think that there would have been anyone who saw the WTC attack live on TV without feeling the same way...
Originally posted by RicoTranzrig Curious.... what PS2 Games actually use the hardware's Full Screen Anti-Aliasing (FSAA) procedures?
Interestingly, the PS2 doesn't actually support any hardware-based anti-aliasing features. That is why the first games on the console suffered from those "jaggies" which everyone talks about. Rather, anti-aliasing on PS2 must be provided through software code. As development kits have improved, developers themselves have had more time and experience with the hardware and as such, anti-aliasing is present in most of the latest games. I can think of two very strong contrasts. Ridge Racer V didn't use any anti-aliasing (that's why it had that terrible "stepping" effect on the edges of objects), while Gran Turismo 3 uses anti-aliasing. If you compare the two, you'll notice that the objects in GT3 are significantly clearer and smoother than in Ridge Racer. I can't think of any other specific examples, but you'll find that most games are using anti-aliasing of some variety.
Originally posted by Ice Dragon v2 I thought this topic was closed
It was, but I reopened it.
Originally posted by Colin I find it sort of amusing how most of you people come along and think that The Otaku is the best thing since sliced bread because it's got fruity colors and a japanese name, without don't know about its roots and how it ate AGB until Adam abandoned it. If anyone is still around who remembers the old days of AGB, reader reviews, and AOL homepage addresses, I invite you to reply below. Colin Former Absolute Gameboy (AGB) staffer
I agree with you. A lot of people here are seeing theOtaku in a slightly diminished state -- far from what it was at its peak. I wasn't around in the early days of Absolute GB, but I was certainly around before Justin left...and when Frank was running AGB. We definitely hit our stride then. But hopefully we can hit that peak again in the future. Adam and I have plans to do some serious expansion within the next year. And by the way, Adam didn't abandon AGB...Justin's departure forced us to close down all of our gaming sections. Very unfortunate...but at the time it was necessary.
Originally posted by DuoGod of Death I do respect your opinions, and agree with almost all of 'em. But I think it is not our fault that we are not as involved in the world than we used to be.. When we were involved in the world countries told us to butt out, and so now that we did what they said they are jealouse, and are trying to think of reasons to make us horrible! (that does not go for every nation, and this is ment in no offense!) I think people like Sudam Hussain and Osams bin Laden have just used HUGE propaganda and have made us look like slave drives. And yet in some reasons we are. In some countries we do still have "SWEAT HOUSES", and there are not as many as there used to be. Personally I think America as a nation has been cleaning up their act when it comes to foreign relations, and I think Osama attacked us, for two reasons. 1, hoping we would strike out without any knowledge making us worse to the Middle East, and 2 for the religiouse war he has called on.
Well, as a non-US citizen, I think that I am in a good position to comment on how a lot of people feel about America (at least, in the Asian region). The actions taken against the USA are motivated by America's involvement in the Gulf War, whereby American troops were stationed in the Middle Easte -- in the "holy land". This was a direct insult to Osama bin Laden (who felt strongly that "infidels" shouldn't stand on that soil). This is why he's attacking America. He will refer to the Israel/Palestine conflict and such...but that really has nothing to do with it. He is against the United States for religious/political reasons. Stupid reasons. The USA has been a double edged sword in the past. In many cases, it has been perceived as butting in where it's not welcome...and in other cases, it hasn't taken responsibility for its actions (either direct or indirect actions). Also, it's fair to say that for the most part...the USA doesn't act on an international situation unless it's interests are at stake. One of the main reasons the US was involved in the Gulf War was to protect its precious Middle Eastern oil supplies -- but of course, the US Government won't tell you that. When the Indonesian military supplied weapons to the militia in East Timor...to begin killing people by the hundred, Australia was the first country to do anything about it. The Australian Government informed the UN about the situation and stated its intention of moving into the area to protect the East Timor people. Our Government had to literally drag the USA kicking and screaming to do anything about it...the US Government just wasn't intersted. It "wasn't their problem", but due to their treaty with us...they were obligated to do something. We could easily have said the same about East Timor..."it's not our problem". But we recognized that if we didn't help...nobody would. I have heard various American politicians saying that once the war against Al-Qaida and the Taliban is over...the US will have "no reason to stay in Afghanistan". This is a terrible thing to say, because the US is quite prepared to change everyone's lives for its own gain...yet is not prepared to pick up the pieces afterwards. You can't be a leader of the free world unless you stay true to your responsibility. My point is, the US Government has to stay there once the Taliban are totally gone...and they have to make sure that they help the Afghan people to rebuild their country. If they did this, it would give nobody a reason to be against them. Unfortunately, in the past...the US has provided ample reason to be opposed to them. But having said all of that...I'm dealing with it very lightly. Being an Australian, my country has always been allied with the USA...and we have always assisted the USA in every major war (including the current war). So I'm in no way justifying the terrorist actions (as they aren't justifiable)...I'm just saying that it's important to understand where the anti-Americanism comes from...so that it can be reversed.

Actually, he is commonly known as "The Tyrant". I felt that Resident Evil 3 was slightly better than RE2.
I think that the best thing you can do is be accepting. But I'm sure that you don't want to lose your friendship...and I'm sure that friendship is more important to you than superficial stereotypes. As Noryko mentioned, the idea that gay people will instantly be attracted to everyone is a myth. If you are a straight male, do you want to have sex with every girl who walks past you? (Some of you, such as Will2x, shouldn't answer that lol) But my point is, I don't think it's any different for gay people. Not everyone wants to have sex with everyone lol...being gay doesn't mean that you want sex more or less than a straight person. Everyone has different tastes.

Gendo, I'm not quite sure what you're trying to achieve here. The topic is a little incoherant... -
DeathKnight, comments like that are unnecessary. You know as well as I do that OtakuBoards.com allows multiple points of view to be expressed -- however, I don't support the idea of complaining/flaming of staff in General Discussion. If people have any complaints, they can PM me or talk to me over AIM. The closed topics are ones that, as mentioned, were either unacceptable or were spam. I am very dissappointed with you, Stardust. At first you were a welcome member, and the Daily Otaku was doing fine...but it ended up degenerating into a group of people who just couldn't agree. If you want to remain here, you may do so...as long as you observe our rules.
