Originally posted by Lady Macaiodh this is kind of a ridiculous topic to post, b/c no country is really pacifist... don't tell me all governments don't perform secret experiments on human beings... you know they do.. how else could we perfect bio-chemical warfare? somewhere, in america, there is a military, or otherwise, complex performing warped experiments on human beings right now... don't deny it. just think of 1972.
You're partly right there. However, I think that countries can be "mostly" pacifist. I mean, obviously you can't call 100% of the country pacifist short of asking individual people...but you can make a generalization about the country. I don't think all governments experiment on human beings though. Usually bio-experiments are done on labs...and not on actual people. I mean, I don't support the idea that the US Government is involved in top secret, psychotic nasty tests on humans...I've always thought that was a paranoid fear that some people have. However, I was just pointing out that Japan was particularly sadistic during WWII.
Originally posted by Flare Falcor Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages for Game Boy Advance... Once I get one that is.... I'd get a GC but.... Why does eveything have to come out half a year later in Australia? :(
Well, sometimes we get stuff earlier -- or we get stuff that other countries don't get. For example, we got the Wipeout series before either Japan or America and we also got the Smokey Black GBA which no other country has. So don't worry too much ;) By the way, Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are not for GBA, they are for GameBoy Color. So chances are, you could probably get 'em already.
Originally posted by Lady Macaiodh basically, i have a lot of bad memories & they think if they hook me up to EST the memories will be erased. that's how it's supposed to work. the elct. fries the part of your brain that remembers, so you forget. but it doesn't work. at least not in my case. but maybe i just need some more goddamn electricity. p.s. (edit): i supposedly have manic-depression/ dissociative disorder. if you don't know what dissociative disorder is just pm me, i'd rather not post it.
Well, personally, I think that zapping the part of your brain which contains memory sounds like "witch doctor" science to me. It sounds like the place your parents have proposed isn't really a true medical facility...I've never heard of doctors doing anything like that for depression and/or dissociative disorder. I would have imagined that therapy would have been the best remedy, and perhaps some medication...but not something as drastic as that. What if you tried another place? Rather than the one your parents are suggesting, why not try a different clinic? Surely there must be another one you can go to for another opinion or something.

Yes, the Japanese are basically pacifists...ever since WWII, their military has greatly been reduced over time. However, I think that they are a double edged sword for the most part. I mean...some of those Japanese game shows border on being sick and disturbing lol...like the one where you have to get bitten by as many mosquitoes as possible...I mean...it's pretty sick stuff sometimes. And Japanese schools are hardly pacifist. I've read so many stories about how teachers physically hurt students who either don't do the right thing, or are not performing well in class. There was a story of a school where they forced young men to jump into a freezing, raging river...to prove their "manhood and honor". I mean, I know Japanese culture is based on honor...but that practice has no diginity whatsoever. And during WWII, the Japanese did some incredibly ferocious things. For example, they used to arrest Chinese people and test all kinds of bombs on them to see what effects they had. And in the POW camps, they would become involved in everything from rape to torture. So personally, I find it strange how most Japanese people are quiet and peaceful, yet the country has been (and still is, to some extent) home to some of the most violent and gruesome practices known to man. Having said all of that, don't get me wrong... Japan is a beautiful country, and I love Japanese culture (afterall, my idol is Shigeru Miyamoto). So I have tremendous respect for Japan and its people. I'm just saying that, like any country in the world, it's not all sweetness and light lol. But yeah...I would say that these days, they are basically pacifists.
Originally posted by Lady Macaiodh james, you don't get it. if they hook me up to EST, i will not have a choice. from then on, they will be able to do whatever they want, & it doesn't matter how much resolve i have. or how strong i am. i know, it's happened before!
What do you mean? Why would they hook you up to EST? What exactly is your medial condition? If it's okay to say...
Originally posted by _Shiro Amada_ It has been confirmed that FFX is a PS2 exclusive. FF XI will be on X-Box(maybe), PC, and PS2. FFXII is only for PS2. Gamecube has a 1.5 Gigabytes storage in it's mini CD's, that is one 1/6th of what A normal DVD ROM can hold, that is why Gamecube won't get ANY Final Fantasy games.
Actually, FFXI could very well be appearing on all next generation game systems with an Internet connection (that means, PS2, Xbox and GameCube). Infact, Hironobu Sakaguchi stated a few months back "We are determined to have a Final Fantasy game on a Nintendo console". You pointed out the lack of memory on the GameCube discs, but don't be fooled. The beauty of the discs is that they are dirt cheap to manufacture. This means that a company can have two or three or four...or however many discs they need. So I wouldn't rule out a FF game on GCN. But I would suggest that it's more likely we'll see the series appear on GBA in the future. But in the distant future...I think Square will move the series back to GameCube, or at least, GameCube and PS2

I don't think a lot of people really understand what Lady M is saying here. I mean, it's all very well to say "run for the hills" and all that...but the question is, what if Lady M is missing out on medical treatment that she might need? I mean, sure...staying in any kind of institution can be nasty (my cousin stayed in a mental hospital for a few months once)...but it's all what you can make of it. If you remain positive, you have the ability to just make sure you get your treatment so that you can leave. The fact is: only weak minded people can be brainwashed. The same is true of hypnosis -- you can't be hypnotized against your will, this is a commonly known fact among psychiatrists. So basically, if you want treatment...it might be best to give this thing a try. You're a free adult, therefore if it is going badly, you can always leave and do something else, or try another place. The best thing to do is to check yourself in though -- so you have the ability to check yourself out whenever you want. Just a thought, as opposed to "run for the hills and live with the wolves". lol

She says it in a certain way. hehe... Anyway this is off topic...lol

There are rumblings that Nintendo will/has delayed GameCube for Europe until fall 2002 (third quarter of next year). Or at the very least, June/July.
Originally posted by Lady Macaiodh here's the scenario: i've been in & out of the hospital for the past 3 years. i had to drop out of college b/c of this & haven't been able to hold down a steady job. i had to move back in w/ my parents b/c i couldn't afford to live on my own. now my parents want me to go to a rehabilitation center/institution for 4-6 months. i really don't want to go. i don't want to put my life on hold anymore & i don't think it can really help me. but my parents say they'll kick me out if i don't go & i have no money to get my own place. plus, i think that if i go, it might help things between me & my parents. the idea of being in that place for that long just abhors me, though. i won't be able to talk to anyone, or talk on the phone, or have visitors. it's also in another state from where i live now. it basically cuts you off from the outside world. i've heard of this place before & i'm afraid they're going to brainwash me. i just think this whole thing is really unfair. i did not ask to be sick. it was thrust upon me by some unknown force. & no matter how hard i try, i can't think of a way out. i just had to talk to somebody. it's 4 a.m. & i can't even sleep b/c i'm thinking about it.
Ahh...this makes some more sense. This isn't a good situation...but I have to say, sometimes you need to take some time out and do what's right for your body and mind...so that you can get yourself back on track. I don't know specifically what sickness you're talking about (I assume a mental condition, because you mentioned brainwashing...but I could be wrong there), but I think that the condition itself is irrelevant. I think, at the very least...you could try this. I mean, yes...perhaps you get cut off from the outside world, but that time you spend "cut off" may give you some much needed time to heal and become well again. Then, once you're better, you can go out there and really start your life over again. I'm sure your parents want what's best for you..
Originally posted by Shinji v2.0 You guys have to be joking me...some of you, at least. Is smoking something only guys can do? I'm fairly liberal, and I say if one of my girlfriends (and by that I mean girls of which I am friends with) want to go drink then go to a party or go get high and see a movie, I will not look down on them, nor will I say it's unattractive. If I would do the same thing with my friends, then the girls should have equal rights to do what they want without being rideculed. If you're very anti-drugs et cetera that's fine, but if you've been known to smoke, drink, or maybe partake in the greens, then I don't think you can really say anything. Most unattractive thing? I can't believe how many of you judge by looks and actions. For me, it's simple : unintelligence. Shinji
I haven't read every single post here, but I don't think anyone here is too shallow...I mean, afterall, we ARE discussing visual turnoffs mostly -- superficial stuff. I agree with you though...absolute stupidity/ignorance is probably the biggest turn off of them all lol.

Tekken 4 hasn't been released for any console yet. Infact, it is only in the early stages of development (if at all), as Namco has not even confirmed that Tekken 4 is coming to any consoles yet. So what you have is probably a blank disc. lol
Originally posted by jcgoudy Yeah, that's the one thing Nintendo's systems seem to be missing: RPGs. It would be cool if they released DWVII for GBA. Another thing I'd like to see on GBA is Final Fantasy V. I haven't heard or seen much about Golden Sun, but I have heard that it's going to be good.
Well yeah, N64 was missing RPGs definitely. Although Square recently revealed why they have developed a rift with Nintendo, and believe it or not...it was Square's fault. lol Golden Sun is looking great. For GameCube, you have games like Rune, Eternal Darkness and a third RPG which I forget the name of...it looks nice though. There is a possibility of seeing Dragon Quest on GameCube, but rigt now, I do'nt know how strong that possibility is. I personally hope that Nintendo make a "Paper Mario 2" or Super Mario RPG 3 for GameCube. That'd be very cool :) I think you'll see more RPGs for GameCube than there were for N64 though, much more.
Originally posted by kuja i hate reading walkthrews and crap on games... i dont know what im saying... but games should go back to how they were... back on SNES or NES... i dont know about 64... a lot seemed short to me... i know that the originals were short too but they took longer to beat... FF 9 u can do in 15 hours ez... where as CT took me 20 the first time threw... so i dont know... i just think quality of work not quantity of graphics
Well um...you don't have to read walkthroughs online and stuff. If you want to make it harder for yourself, you should stay away from that stuff. There are plenty of new games which are tough without walkthroughs. Games like Silent Hill, for example. Silent Hill wasn't very long in terms of hours, but it had some challenging puzzles. With no walkthrough or outside help, games such as Silent Hill can keep you going for quite a while. Also, I am finding Gran Turismo 3 to be a great value game. It's incredibly long, and there are lots of different challenges. I'm really enjoying it -- you should get it if you want a challenge. Some games are just too short -- Metal Gear Solid and Jet Set Radio being two good examples. I loved both games to death, and the amount of challenge was totally fine...but if both games had been say...twice as long, they'd have been perfect.
Originally posted by jcgoudy And they're also remaking Dragon Warrior IV with totally new graphics, so it looks just like VII. It's going to be on the PlayStaion though. They've made remakes of DWI/II and DWIII on GBC, but I've never heard of any on the SNES.
Yeah I heard about that. Although I read somewhere that they are thinking of bringing the updated DQVI to GBA. Given that GBA could probably handle DQVII even...since it's all 2D. It'd be great to see some good RPGs on GBA. I can't wait for Golden Sun -- the battle sequences look amazing.
Originally posted by jcgoudy Do any of you know about the Dragon Warrior series? In Japan, it's known as Dragon Quest. A couple of days ago I read an article in EGM about Dragon Warrior VII, and I found out an interesting fact about the Dragon Warrior series. In Japan there's a law that says that all new Dragon Quest games have to be released on either a weekend or a holiday. The reason for this law, is that kids were skipping school and adults were skipping work so that they could get a copy the day it came out. After the release of Dragon Quest III, so many people were skipping school and work that they passed that law. Anyway, I just thought that was funny.
Yep, just goes to show how popular the Dragon Quest series has been in Japan -- much more popular than Final Fantasy. Many have said that the original Dragon Quest was the first true RPG. I'm not sure, but I think the first DQ was the game to invent turn-based fighting and common RPG gameplay convention used in RPGs today. Interestingly, Enix hasn't said which platform their next DQ game will arrive on (Dragon Quest VIII). However, they are reportedly considering GameCube as an option. Imagine what that'd do for GameCube in Japan... I think it'd be the same response as what happened with FFVII and PlayStation. As soon as Square announced FFVII exclusively for PlayStation, everyone went crazy and started buying PlayStations lol.
