Online Relationships, and Impact therof
wrist cutter replied to Drix D'Zanth's topic in General Discussion
I guess there are a few people online I would call "friends". But I realize that I'll never quite know these people the way I know people who I actually see, and so I guess my relationship with them is significantly different. In general though, I use the message boards and such more for just discussion purposes rather than actually making friends, or anything of that nature. It works better that way... online friends just don't seem to work out as well... or something/ -
I don't think "awkward" is quite the word I would use to describe those experiences. Lucky bastards.
Originally posted by Mitch Let me tell you as well: God is just a perception. He's something you see, not what everyone else sees. And for something to be a truth, everyone must see it: it must logically, entirely be true and seen and known and felt and touched and known by all. And God isn't.
I don't want to get really involved in this post but this caught my eye anyway... Let's say Jesus Christ is walking through your neighborhood and decides to stop by your house. He knocks on your door, states who He is, performs a few miracles to prove it, tips His hat, then walks out. I think we can agree you would be fairly convinced of His existance, correct? Now, I know you're saying, "but perhaps I'm delusional", or "perhaps it was just a dream." And that's a good point, because you're the only one to have seen Him. Assuming you don't have video cameras running in your house, you can't really prove to anyone else that Jesus indeed came to visit you. But what if Jesus, instead of ascending back into Heaven, walked over to your neighbors' house and visited them? He does the same thing for them: states who He is, proves it with some miracles, etc. etc. Now your neighbor has seen Jesus and fully believes in His existance. If we assume that both you and your neighbor are generally rational people, and not likely to be carted off to an asylum anytime soon, then I think both of you would both believe that what you saw was indeed the real thing. You would be sure of your sanity and that you really did encounter Jesus Christ. So maybe after He's done with your neighbor He leaves the Earth. Nobody ever sees Him again. He cannot be "seen and known and felt and touched and known by all" (two knowns?) because He's gone. But wouldn't you still be very sure of His existance? Your neighbor described the exact same situation, so you can be sure that it wasn't just your mind playing tricks on you. If this were to ever occur, would you proclaim God as truth then? Granted, many would think it was just you and your neighbor trying to fool everyone with wild stories, but it would still be truth would it not?

For people that are and/or still in school.
wrist cutter replied to Ryoko T.D.C.'s topic in General Discussion
The title of this thread confuses me. "For people that are and/or still in school." So, in long form, isn't that sentence: "For people that are in school, and/or for people that are still in school." I fail to see the difference. -

I'm not going into any more detail. >.>' *shudders*
Now imagine scooping your vomit out of the toilet and tasting it a third time, and be sure to chew. That's one of those wonderful things I was talking about earlier. -

Read the book "A Child Called 'It'". It's a true story about an abused child... some of the stuff he had to eat could top pretty much anything any of us could come up with I'd say. If you've read the book, you'd agree I'm sure. -
It's just a single called "The Final". It most likely means nothing about their status as a band. Unfortunately.

When do you think is the right time for sex?
wrist cutter replied to Epitome's topic in General Discussion
Originally posted by Shinmaru I mean, is a 16 year old really going to be that much more mature than a 14 year old?
Actually, from experience, I'd have to disagree with this statement... I think 2 years makes a lot of difference when dealing with the maturity of a teenager. Of course, everyone is on somewhat different "maturity levels"... there are certainly some 14 year olds who are more mature than many people who are many years older... but this 14 year old in 2 years will probably go through a lot of changes. -

Wait until you're forty. -
The color chooser deal works for me. I'm running on Netscape 7........ and Windows 98, even though it's probably irrelevant information (but everyone else is doing it!).

I recently found a quote, very relevant to this discussion: "Here I sit, reading about socialism and communism. I am eating candy. It's incredibly good. Just before I finish eating all of it, I pause. I stop and think to myself that maybe it would be nice to share it with people. But dammit, it's just so good and I want to eat all of it. And that's the dilemma." -
Originally posted by SadClown I love how so many people just name like the same 5 super popular bands when there are so many other great bands to listen to. Like Lastier, Lareine, Baiser, Baroque, Fanatic Crisis, Kagrra, Pierrot, Spin Aqua and Wyse, just to name a few. =D
There was a time when I used to listen to a lot of those bands. They were cool. But eventually I just realized that, this music was cool, but it wasn't going to stick with me. Honestly, I can't imagine being 40 and still listening to BAISER heh. Bands like X JAPAN, L'Arc~en~Ciel... sure they're popular, but they seem so much more lasting to me. I've been listening to Laruku for like, 5 years now, and I swear they just get better even though I've probably listened to each album like 800 times.
Originally posted by Chabichou Well, actually, I myself wanted to try some of the funkier codes, like making it snow on the page, or mouse trailors.
Ugh, good thing it doesn't work. Those sorts of things are horribly annoying. DHTML gives people the option to do so many useless, annoying things... it has some good uses as well, don't get me wrong, I've used some in my time. It has its uses. But mostly it's just "bells and whistles" type things that are more annoying than anything.
Originally posted by Jubei Yagyou What would be considered reasonable in wrist cutters context?
Just normal "ketchup food". Fries, hot dogs, hamburgers, other assorted greasy foods. How is hash browns with ketchup weird though? It's so normal on fries. They both come from the same thing. But I do put ketchup on corn, and macaroni and cheese. Those are some of the weirder things I add ketchup to, I think...
-
Originally posted by GreenEyedDragon Ketchup with hashbrowns
Is that weird? Damn. Anyway I put ketchup on everything reasonable, and probably a few things unreasonable as well... in fact I'm really picky about foods in general. So if I eat it, chances are there's ketchup with it too.
Originally posted by TeRRaFLaMe Erm, the majority of people I know that like Malice Mizer just call it Shiroi. Heck, even the mp3 I downloaded of it a good while back is just plain labeled Shiroi. Not a big problem there. -_-
Probably because they don't understand any Japanese thus making long Japanese titles harder to remember.
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel David Bowie - Reality If any other band put this out as one of their first releases, it would be freaking amazing. However, being David Bowie, I guess different things are expected. He can no longer get away with "good" material thanks to his heyday. A lot of people probably thought that was returning thanks to Heathen, which was excellent. The only problem with it was that it was so mellow that I couldn't bring myself to listen to it all that often. I can see why Bowie did a full tour with this release rather than Heathen, it's just more concert-material. Reality goes in a totally different direction, but I wouldn't say it totally forgets what was accomplished on Heathen. It's really solid stuff, and definitely deserving of being put in here. It's upbeat, fun to listen to and well composed. Some of it seems a bit odd, but that adds to its fun. No complaints. Plus if you got the limited edition copy, you get a really nice revision of Rebel Rebel. It's a more subdued, "lounge" version. Nice stuff.
I don't have his other works to compare it to, but I recently listened through "Reality" and I liked it. Most of the tracks seemed really good. My favorite was easily "New Killer Star"... excellent, excellent song. There were a few other standouts, "Never Get Old" particularly, and the rest seemed at the very least, listenable. A few more listens and I'm sure it'll grow on me a bit more.
Originally posted by CB Shin or that people haven't learned to work together in complete harmony for a greater cause. I'm sure that statement will spark up another arguement...
I don't know how anyone could debate that. Anyone who thinks people want to work together in harmony for a greater cause is way too optimistic and living in some fantasy world. -
Originally posted by Hittokiri Zero But isn't the literal translation of "Baka" more along the lines of "Idiot/Dumb" not "Dumbass"
It's hard to be very literal with merely insult words, especially with languages that have no connection with each other like Japanese and English. Rarely is there a hard and fast definition for any given word, but a few variations. "baka" has a more insulting tone to it than simply "idiot" or "dumb" I feel. I mean, kids throw around "idiot" and "dumb" all the time and no one's really offended by it anymore. "baka" is a bit stronger than that... a lot of times it depends on the context in which it's used on how it should be translated.

In no particular order. GLAY - BEAUTIFUL DREAMER/STREET LIFE This is definitely one of the most pleasant surprises of this year. It's been a long time since the last GLAY single, and it really wasn't all that great either. So between those two things, I honestly wasn't anxiously awaiting this single much. But both songs are really great, some of the best GLAY has ever made. It really restored my faith in music, as certain bands have been disappointing me lately... but certainly not GLAY. BUCK-TICK - zangai BUCK-TICK has been around for over two decades, with tons of great songs and nearly 200 total. Yet, here's this single. "zangai" is definitely in my top 5 songs from this band, despite there being so many others. It's such a great, rocking song, with an incredibly catchy melody. The c/w, "GIRL", is another great song, though quite different. "zangai" is one of those must-hear songs of this year. SURFACE - NEWS I didn't recognize how great this song was at first. In fact it seemed really dull. But as I began understanding the lyrics a bit more, as well as listening to the song a lot, it really has grown on me. Perhaps even better than "NEWS" is the c/w song on this single, "shokutaku". It sounds a bit similar but has a lonelier, more desperate sound to it that I really like. Two great songs, even though I couldn't tell at first. SURFACE - I'M FINE THANK YOU AND YOU? I must've listened to this song at least 100 times in those first few weeks that it came out. It's one of those wonderfully addictive SURFACE songs that sounds happy enough but has a serious tone as well. The c/w, "kitto", certainly isn't bad either. By far the biggest flaw in the title track is that there's no guitar solo, something that was also missing from the album that followed, "WARM". Porno Graffitti - uzu I've never been more disappointed with a Porno Graffitti single. When I initially heard this song, I didn't like it AT ALL, which is rare because I love nearly everything they've done. Yet as I continued to listen to it, and the release of their fourth album "WORLDILLIA" drew closer, it finally hit me. Slowly at first, but then I finally understood the song and now I love it. It's one of Tama's more serious pieces that can be certainly more hard to appreciate than other songs, but it has definitely grown on me. The other song on this single is the upbeat "WORLD SATURDAY GRAFITTI", written by ak. homma (none other). This song is so incredibly catchy, even moreso than their previous singles written by him "Mugen" and "AGEHA chou". Porno Graffitti - oto no nai mori The first single penned by Akihito, he really did a great job with this song. It's rather straightforward really, using the old "really slow and quiet verses, really loud and dramatic choruses" technique. Sure it's been done before, but Akihito's melody here is just so great, I can't stop singing this song. The simple arrangement works pretty well for this song really. The only complaint would be that it's fairly predictable... but I can look past that for this song. Porno Graffitti - MELISSA Of all the Porno Graffitti singles released this year, this is definitely the best. The title track, written by ak. homma, is one of his catchiest songs in a LONG time. He really did an EXCELLENT job with this song, I've probably listened to this single more than any of the others released this year. Perfect song.

I think the magazine looks really good and "professional" (for online standards anyway), and I really wasn't suspecting something so well done when I first read through your post. Great job. My only complaint would be the title. I mean, "Baka Entertainment"? Would you be proud of reading a magazine called "Dumbass Weekly"?
