Originally posted by Sara I was in Europe earlier this summer. Several of the people I was with felt the need to smuggle alcohol into their rooms every night (it was against school policy, eh) simply because they were in Europe and, well, they could. Dealing with drunk classmates it not fun, especially when you're stuck with them in another country.
I was in the same situation when I went to Japan. Everyone in the group (roughly ten other people) went out drinking just about every night. And this isn't like a beer, they were getting pretty hammered. Of course, on our last day in Tokyo, they all were too sick to get out of their room, or even their beds for that matter. You opened the door to their room, and that alcoholic stench would just overpower you. If you're wondering if I joined in on this, I was never invited -_-
Originally posted by Adahn All those japanese rules boggle my mind!
Well, I was explaining it to people who already have an idea of the workings of Japanese. If I were to explain it to someone with no experience in the language, of course I'd explain much more. Really, it's not as hard as it seems.
Heh heh, Japanese newbie mistake #1: using ?í as the particle "wa". While that symbol is phonetically "wa", as a particle you use the symbol ?Í (which is "ha"). ?Í is pronounced "ha" in every situation EXCEPT when being used as a particle. You might be thinking it's not being used as such, but both greetings "konnichiwa" and "konbanwa" use ?Í: ?±?ñ?É?¿?Í ?±?ñ?Î?ñ?Í Don't worry, I made these same mistakes when I started too. Everyone does heh. Oddly, I've actually seen some Japanese make that mistake with "konnichiwa" before... I don't know if they just can't spell or if they're trying to be stylistic or something.
Originally posted by OtakuSennen h?Z?C?P?³?ñ! ?ö?H?æ ?ë????·!h h?ö?H?æ ?c????·¤ ?L?m?³?ñ." h?ä?³?C ?f?X ?©Hh g?Í?¢A?ä?³?C ?Å?·BBh g?¾?¢!h h?Í?¢BBh
Heh. Just guessing at symbols were we? I thought I was going out of my mind at first, trying to guess at these words. Correct version: ?¹?¢?¯?³?ñI ?¨?Í?æ?¤?²?´?¢?Ü?·B ?¨?Í?æ?¤?²?´?¢?Ü?·A?«?Ì?³?ñBBB ?¨?³?C?Å?·?©B ?Í?¢A?¨?³?C?Å?·B ?¢?¢I ?Í?¢BBB There are kanji for "ohayou gozaimasu", but I personally never see them used. Common words like that are usually just scribbled out in hiragana, as opposed to writing the kanji. There are also some grammatical errors. For example, you don't use the honorific "o" when speaking of yourself. So the response would not be "ogenki desu" but just "genki desu". As you know, when you end a sentence with the particle "ka", it becomes a question. Because of this, a question mark is not needed and a plain period is preffered. When there is no spoken "ka", and the sentence is a question due to voice inflection, than a question mark is to be used. Nice to see some other people learning Japanese.
Originally posted by Queen Asuka Those who don't, tend to be the immature types who need people to stroke their ego and rely too much on what others say. If someone calls them out, they get upset.
Sounds very similar to how I'd start my autobiography >_>;

Rap and rock aren't just friends, they're lovers, and they've already spawned the rap/rock genre.
Originally posted by ssjBrolli Well it is true. I've been born in a family around women and Im not trying to act like a bigshot whatsoever
I dunno. I find it hard to believe a guy who chooses the name "ssjBrolli" as his screenname is a real ladies' man.

I don't sing in the shower, because it's 5:00 in the morning and there's no way I'm going to sing or do anything even remotely joyous. However, I tend to sing along whenever I listen to music... which is often.

I started by learning hiragana, katakana and numbers. Now I know significantly more but have yet to reach fluency (I was a little more humble in the Japanese heh). When I was a 6th grader, I took a year of French. I got good grades in that class and could speak it pretty well, but I had no desire to continue learning it for another year. I've forgot it all now.
Originally posted by ssjBrolli I mean cause I know so much about them (body and personality ways)
Hahahaha. Haha. And also ha. Not even the most egotistical of men can claim such a thing.

SURFACE make me hot. "switch" in particular, really has sort of that "let's get it on" groove going for it, and the lyrics kinda reflect that heh. "kitto" also seems pretty sexy to me, but I don't think that was entirely intentional. Their song "as ever" is really romantic and sweet though, I think that could kind of work too. So if you want a quick way into my pants (and who doesn't?), there ya go.

If it weren't for online music sharing/stealing, I wouldn't have the 50 or so CDs I have now. And I wouldn't have gotten other people into this music either, who also purchased large quantities of CDs. There's no easy answer to this situation.

"Fear of success is one of the new fears I've heard about lately. And I think it's definitely a sign that we're running out of fears. A person suffering from fear of success is scraping the bottom of the fear barrel. Are we going to need AA-type meetings for these people? They get up to the microphone and go, "Hi, my name is Bill and I can't stand the thought of having a stereo and a cream colored couch." According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that seem right? That means to the average person, if you have to go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy." Personally I fear spiders.
Originally posted by KnightOfTheRose If we are the only beings in this vast universe ... that can comprehend emotion or the such, then it is one hell of a waste of space.
Not necessarily true. Have you ever heard the quote "A butterfly beating its wings in China may cause a hurricane on the other side of the world"? That may very well be why there are so many planets out there. Take Pluto - a big, dusty rock floating about in space. Seemingly useless to anyone on our planet. But perhaps if this planet did not exist, our planet would have been pelted in meteors and burned in a terrible apocalypse by now. Somehow, perhaps, Pluto's existance set off a chain reaction that stopped this from ever happening. And then you think of all the planets and stars in all of the galaxies, and maybe they're all just working in perfect balance to keep our planet in existance for just one more day.

I'm all about The Police. I've been listening to them for a long, long time and I still like them... something I can't say for many groups. Also fond of U2 and Tears for Fears. The Cure is pretty cool too.

When I need to consider my future, I just play that MASHO game from elementary school.
Originally posted by WW2 Hmm, is that your name on the right? It looks like it says "James."
Yeah she told me to write my name on it once I was done... trying to write small katakana characters with a thick brush is kind of tricky heh.

*cough* Yeah it's not actually porn. I was rummaging through my "box of Japan" last night, reminscing about all the good times and such. Managed to come along this, some calligraphy a kindly old woman convinced me to do. She did some herself first, and of course it's all perfect since she's Japanese and had been doing it for many years. It's kind of hard to be steady when she puts the brush in your hand and says to try it, watching over your shoulder the whole time. eek. But I think it turned out pretty cool. It says "kodomokai"... I'm sure most of you know from reading manga that it is read top to bottom, right to left. I can't really translate it... I know kind of what it means but don't really know how to put it in English. I don't think we have a word for it...
Originally posted by Sentou Ryoku Oh yeah, is it good, by the way?
Well that's kinda why I asked if that's all you were going to do with it... it seems so incomplete heh. The fact it is just a sketch makes it a little hard to judge... it just doesn't seem like a finished product. But generally, I'd say it's good. Nothing that I find outstanding, but it's better than any of my stick figures that's for sure. Keep it up.
