1. Do you people even read posts? Otaku has two meanings, I explained it already. And something a lot of people don't realize is that Japanese isn't French, Spanish, or whatever. English can almost directly translate into these languages because they're all similar. But Japanese has nothing at all to do with English, and thus it's really hard to pin down just one absolute meaning for each word. So when focusing on just the "geek" meaning of otaku, it can also mean "nerd", "obsessive person", etc., because all those words are fairly synonomous.
 2.
Originally posted by Nekkyo but if you listen to dir en grey or x japan (is that even around anymore?), its different from puffy and the one boy band who's name i cant rememer
Yeah, and I'm not denying that. I'm just saying foreign Japanese music fans aren't half as worried about the genres their favorite bands fit in as American music fans. As for Malice Mizer... yeah, COLOR ME BLOOD RED and such have a rock feel to them. But those rock songs are a minority in their music. They're usually misclassified as a J-rock band just because they're visual... it's an easy mistake to make because really, j-rock is mostly represented through visual bands in America. Really though, visual kei is just a small portion of Japanese rock and I think this needs to become more clear to foreign fans...
 3. We have a few members here from Australia. And in Australia, I know for one, that practice is spelled practise (at least it was in my Australian textbook). So I wouldn't be the surprised if the same went for a word like organization.
 4.
Originally posted by Nekkyo i have to agree with TN that the genres in Japan are more defined. Dir en Grey is a rock band. no doubt about it. one of my favs too. So is Malice Mizer. Puffy, and some boy band.. definately pop! in America.. there are so many different types of every kind of music. rock prolly has the most. Metal is a genre of rock and has different kinds its self. hardcore, nu, black, death, goth, and industial.
First of all, Malice Mizer isn't really a rock band. The majority of their songs aren't rock at all, only "Beast of Blood", their stuff from "memoire", and a few songs in-between. That comprises far less than half of their repertoire. Second of all, Japan has all those genres - black metal (I believe this might be what Mana pursues with his new band Moi Dix Mois), death metal, speed metal etc, The difference here is that foreign Japanese music fans just don't care about classifications or whatnot as much as Americans do. And a lot of the time, bands actually go outside the boundaries of their general genre gasp, which makes it much harder to confine them into anything less general than say 'rock' or 'pop'.
 5.
Originally posted by amiboshi I meant that seeing it on TV as well in real life didn't help any to discourage the real problem. And that if there are already problems in the family, then they'll completely accept it when it's on TV. I also said that it's a person's choice, but young minds are impressionable, and can be swayed by examples, like on TV.
Yes, obviously, you had already stated all that. Again, I'm telling you, you're neglecting the bigger problem here - it's not so much that the TV sways the kid in the wrong direction, it's that they're so sway-able from a ****** homelife in the first place.
 6. I'm not a gaming freak (as I mentioned earlier in this thread), and I don't really know much about these gaming companies, but I have to defend Miday a bit. The NBA JAM and Mortal Kombat series are really great games :)
 7. Well, of course. It would be completely asanine of me to lump the whole male population into one group and call it fact. Roughly 95% of men surveyed masturbate, though. Might wanna think about that for awhile.
 8.
Originally posted by Alexander What am I going to do....
Well if it were me, I'd crank up some thrash metal and do so real fast. Basically I think you should just forget about this dame, because in the end I guarantee you'll realize you were mainly attracted to her because she's a fox. Beneath all that happiness for all her wellbeing, you know you just want some T&A.
 9. Ever since the "console race" began (I believe it was around the time the PlayStation was released), I just lost interest in games. So many games were so intensely focused on graphics and such I just didn't care anymore. And about games being too childish - I love games for "all ages". In fact, they're my favorite type of game. Stuff like Super Mario Brothers, Battletoads, and Double Dragon will never be outdone as long as everyone focuses on improving the looks of their games.
 10.
Originally posted by PiroMunkie It is very naive to think that all people who hate Jesus and/or religion are satanic. It is also contradictory. If someone hated religion, they couldn't be satanic. That in itself is a religious thing. I hate religion. I'm not satanic, nor do I even believe in satan. Or Jesus for that matter.
It's not naive. You're just not very familiar with Christianity. There's no in-between: you're either with God or against him. And thus, you are Satanic because you have given into Satan. You might not worship him and set up shrines, but you're doing exactly what he wants you to.
 11. Matt Damon would make such a dreamy Venom.
 12. People who bash religion annoy me a lot, probably the most. Oh, and those conceited individuals who are annoyed by most everything and everyone other than themselves.
 13.
Originally posted by SSJ Gotenks ok So before you talk about rapping doesn't require talent really study it everything about it and then come back and post!!
OR, you could go really study English grammar and spelling, everything about it, and then come back and post.

 15.
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve And Jimmy, how come "fragment of memory" doesn't load for me?
Because demented.org is ****ed up all the time lately for some reason. It's really reliable and fast at times, but lately it's just been crashing all the time. But don't worry, the link only leads to the "coming soon" page anyway, heh.
 16.
Originally posted by James Poverty is something which cannot be solved simply by taking money out of the space program and distributing it to other countries.
Ah, but taking money out of space programs would allow us to bribe the governments of other countries into fixing their poverty problems.
 17. http://www.jikannohizumi.net There's a link on this page for people to get Japanese encoding. Make sure to set your browsers character coding to Japanese as well... for IE, just click the 'View' option on the toolbar, go down to Encoding, and select Japanese Auto-Select.
 18.
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve People don't understand the meaning of Otaku.... it means Nerd... whichever way you look at it, thats it's meaning... except for the "Your House" meaning, but thats not used alot.
Well, if anyone's interested, here's a bit more in-depth look- There are two words in Japanese that are pronounced 'otaku' - ?I?^?N - geek, nerd, enthusiast ?ä?î - your house Now the first one is pretty simple, it's the one we're all familiar with. However the second one is a bit more difficult. As TN said, it's not used a lot... but it really depends on the situation. I wouldn't say to TN, "Hey, I'm going to otaku", or "I'm going to your house". But if I were talking to President Bush or someone, I would most certainly say "I'm going to otaku" because it would be rude if I said "anata no ie", as I would to TN. It's a formality thing. As a standalone kanji, ?î is pronounced 'taku' and basically just means house. But it can combine with what is called the 'honorific ?ä' which is just as it says. It makes the word more formal, and usually signifies 'your'. It's like the phrase, u?ä?a¶?ú?¨?ß?Å?Æ?¤Iv. Saying just ?a¶?ú without the ?ä is rather rude since you're celebrating someone else's birthday. Even if it is a friend, it'd be kinda mean to just say ?a¶?ú. I can't think of any English equivalents unfortunately, but you might get the idea.
 19.
Originally posted by DarkOrderKnight My God..... I had no idea how easily you can just pop out of this world. Remind me to listen to my friends more.
The irony will be thick when his friends ask him to ride a bus and it ends up getting demolished by a truck.
 20.
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve Thats a negative... never on OB at least... I've had my share on online things.... and then I just moved on.... IN MOST CASES, no commitment, no love, no anything.... Although, one of my very good friends did find love and recently went to go see her for the first time. It made me cry to see them together.... like the good crying....
You bastard, haruka's pissed >:(
 21.
Originally posted by amiboshi I mean, if a kid's mom smokes and drinks, and then they see it on TV, then it's REALLY making an example.
So blame the TV? You're neglecting the bigger problem here.
 22.
Originally posted by GoldScorpion78 ::Rolls eyes:: opinions opinions, geez bet you had a bad day, and no it aint a pile of crap, it's a good show if ya watch it! I can't believe they let you off your leash!
My day was OK, nothing too extreme either way. And yes, it really is a poor excuse for a TV show, even one intended for children. The animation is awful and it is so ridiculously dumbed down I'd be insulted if I were a kid. They don't keep me on a leash because that would be inhumane.
 23. Well, I don't know exactly what's going on in this topic anymore (and it's too boring to read through) but I'll just make an "on-topic" post nonetheless. I don't care about DBZ or "anime fans" anymore, but I think this sort of thing can be applied to a lot of things. I don't mind it so much when people are just conceited about something, but when they act conceited and don't know jack **** about that subject, then it pisses me off. Appearing to be smarter than you are and giving others misinformation is what pisses me off, and I suppose this probably happens a lot with all those DBZ dorks.
