I'm not a big fan of his. I never really was. He had some good songs and a few good discs, but that's about where my interest ends. It's just casual Whereas Manson is willing to evolve, he kind of found his schtick and stuck with it until people just got tired of it. I'm sometimes surprised he is still around lol. I do like Billion Dollar Babies though... and I'm sure everyone knows the song School's Out. Have fun at the show.

Grohl will sure have a great list of bands under his belt if this turns out. Nirvana, Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age... plus some random stuff I can never remember. He really is a great drummer though, so I can't say I would mind it. However, I'm mixed on this. Just as I was with the Pixies getting back together. When I first heard about that, I was really excited... but that wore away into more of a worry and a question of "Why?" I can't answer that, but if it is true... I hope it works out and they don't do a CD with a million and one pop-rock and hip hop guests sing on every track. I don't want another Santana.

I guess I'll never live peach head down. Damn you Taylor Hewitt!! lol No, I've actually not made a thread on Bowie before. Mostly because I didn't even know where to begin. I know there are people here that know Bowie, but I also know that there are many that have no idea who he is. For younger people, I make exceptions... but my friend Ashley's roommate is 19 and had no idea who he was. Come on. Bowie is obviously rock, but he is also hard to pin down into a genre. I think you described it very well. He's just extremely versatile. He's managed to absorb new sounds and twist them into his own creations, somehow managing to make them still feel like Bowie. There are exceptions. There are a few CDs where I, and others, feel he went a bit too far. Never Let Me Down is the biggest example. While some people feel the recent works preceeding Heathen (such as Hours...) were disappointing, this one is on a whole other level. It's enjoyable on some levels, but it's not really Bowie... nor is it very good. Heathen marked the return of his trademark sounds, while still keeping the stuff he had absorbed over the 90s and adding even more to it. Heathen really is a great album, and I have no clue why he didn't put a full tour behind it. Reality is getting a full tour though. In fact, he's coming to Chicago next month. I believe it's mostly sold out already though and it's not cheap. I've yet to hear the CD, but I'm told it is not as good as Heathen. Even his worst is above the norm though, so I can't complain too much. If you really want to get into Bowie, I guess you've made the best first steps. The current Greatest Hits release is not bad. I'd skip the 1 CD and go straight to the 2 CD. The 1 CD version doesn't even have Life on Mars? on it. What the hell? Otherwise, a lot of his stuff is being rereleased as special, remastered limited editions. They generally come with the original CD, a bonus disc full of random b-sides, live and unreleased materal and an oversized booklet. Get The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. That's basically his masterpiece.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the type face, as much as there is a problem with what you did with it. It's incredibly blurry and the colors make it impossible to read. It almost looks like you cut it out of another, far smaller image. I can make out a basic word shape, but that's about it. I'd play with that... It also seems like you used some sort of layer style (perhaps outer glow), but I cannot tell. I I like the sketch of that one character, but the background clashes with her. She's oddly cropped and is just rather fuzzy compared to the crispness of the blue stuff behind her. I think using her and that text, you could do something decent... A sketchy looking banner. As of right now, it is not bad, but it needs some work. I'm assuming you're relatively new to the program, based on your comments... so just keep it up. I don't do number ratings, lol. As for fonts... I go through here: http://cgm.cs.mcgill.ca/~luc/fonts.html It has an insane amount of links to some really great freeware font sites. Many of which I never see mentioned elsewhere. Don't bother with that 1001freefonts.com BS.

We all know big breasts make a great RPG  I'm not sure if you're actually playing it, or just masturbating to the female characters in it. FFX had its high points. The graphics were good, obviously... although I thought some things just looked a bit off. The sound was good, although I don't think it compares to some of the earlier games. The battle system was enjoyable, although obviously a rather simple evolution of what was already there. I really liked the whole Sphere Grid idea. It's brought down by an even greater lack of dungeons. FF games have slowly turned away from actual maze-like dungeons, which is fine enough. However, this game is pretty much a new low. It's on the same level of Suikoden III in this regard. I'm sorry, but running in a straight line from Point A to Point B is NOT enjoyable, nor is it a good gameplay mechanic. They might as well have just skipped me to the next FMV I had to sit and watch. Without these "tunnels" it'd basically be impossible to level up, so something is needed... however, I don't think this was the route to take. It felt like space to make the game feel longer. There's also those terrible Sphere Trials, or whatever they were called. They weren't challenging. They were annoying. They were completely unenjoyable and tedious. I don't know how anyone could honestly tell me they didn't mind those things. Well done puzzles in RPGs is one thing, this wasn't. Also, I'm not a fan of voice acting in games. FF is becoming increasingly cinematic (I'd say overly so), and so it wasn't too hard to take in. Unfortunately, a lot of it was just poor and badly timed. I swear, if I had to hear that one voice sample they had of Yuna saying "Yes." one more time, I'd kill someone. No matter what the situation or her mood, she always answered with that same, overly short yes. There were highlights obviously, but even then I think some characters just didn't match up well. I'm not even talking lip timing... more like facial expressions. Tidus looked excited even if he was pissed off. The voice thing is a minor complaint. It didn't really take away from the game. However, I don't know how anyone can stick up for this game story wise. It was incredibly generic and offered nothing new over any of the previous ones. I suppose this is the first one in awhile that didn't have you taking on some form of government and then some evil wizard like the last 4. That's not to say the story wasn't decent (more like "tolerable"), but it is nothing to write home about. The linearity might have kept it tighter than other random RPGs, but I've yet to play ANY FF that was so unlinear and random that it affected the story in a negative way. Forcing the player to do most everything in a specific order didn't help here, because the story was mostly so basic that anything could have been done with it in the first place. It wouldn't have been affected and I don't feel it's any better because of it. There are dozens of RPGs that rape FFX in terms of this stuff, but for whatever reason are largely ignored. I guess because of the company on the label, but who knows. I used to blindly buy anything Square, until I got to the point where I had to almost force myself to like it. The start of this was SaGa Frontier, after buying their stuff unquestionably since the NES days. Sadly, despite my distaste for this game... it is one of the better RPGs on the PS2. There just isn't much to choose from in general. There were even fewer to compare it to when it first came out. At least there is stuff like Disgaea around now, and I did like Suikoden III.

Yes, it's computer generated. I don't understand why a few people in this thread have even questioned that. These aren't concept art pieces. It's not live action. It's not traditionally animated. These shots are from the actual movie and they are computer rendered. I don't think they're all that realistic, but maybe it's just me lol. For whatever reason, there isn't anything really leaking out. I do have footage of the trailer, but it's a bad angle and taped with a crappy camcorder. Take what you get though. I'm hosting it, so avoid all that download accelerator crap and don't give my link off to random non-OB people. http://www.slownerveaction.org/interweb/ff7ac.avi (It's uploading now -- so if it doesn't start, wait a few minutes).

I got these off GAF... They're hosted at squarenet, but they cheated that.

There have finally been some gameplay images of this game released over the past month or so. I don't even know how to describe the game when I look at them. However, there is a new movie in the meantime... http://www2u.biglobe.ne.jp/~nanko/movies/killer7.wmv It shows some gameplay scenes. No one knows how it works, but the sections with the blue crosshairs are areas where you actually play in some form.

You must be oblivious to some of the sarcasm in here. Honestly, I have to agree with Magelena to an extent. You're setting yourself up for failure if you're more concered with what you think people would want rather than what you want to do. A sell out before you even make a song, so to speak lol. Of course, doesn't mean you'll even listen to anyone in here... so you could go both ways with it. I don't know that you should just be like "We're doing exactly this!" before you even have any songs or compositions made.

This has to be closed for obvious reasons. The main one being that no discussion outside of "LOL OMG THAT IZ HILARYUS" and other variations of that will result. Sorry.

Writing Ultimates (Pseudo-Official Comics in General Thread!)
Semjaza replied to Semjaza's topic in Creative Works
So far, Losers is just better than any 100 Bullets comic I've bothered to read. I also picked up Human Target at the advice of someone on Gaming-Age. I sat and read the first issue on my way to school a few days ago. At first, I thought I got it... then I was totally lost... and then by the end, it all tied up and I basically understood everything I possibly could. It follows a man who can basically impersonate anyone, to the point that he leads himself to believe that he actually is that person thanks to his delusions. #2 was just as good. I seriously recommend this to anyone. It's really great stuff. -
http://cube.ign.com/articles/451/451698p1.html
Actual gameplay in the three areas was focused on running into enemies scattered about the stages and entering the game's battle system. Although we didn't have enough time to fully explore the battle system, it's clear that while the game is certainly be pretty to look at, the battle system may be an even bigger main draw. As mentioned in our initial look at the game a few months back, battles make use of cards, which you use to determine your next move. Here's how the system seems to work. Characters have a set of cards that they've built up throughout their adventures. Prior to battle, the cards are shuffled and are dealt out to your character. You can select from the cards that appear on screen and no more. Once you've selected a card, it's replaced by a new one which can then be selected as well. When it's a given character's turn to move, rather than selecting "fight," "magic," "equip," "flee," and so-forth from a menu, you select a move from the cards that are displayed on screen. You can choose to attack with a specific spell, like fire or water, for instance, or you may opt to select one of the more potent cards that features a powerful magic spell. Everything is done via card selection, from equipping your characters with new items to using even basic attacks. At the game's unveiling, Monolith mentioned that despite the reliance on cards, the game wouldn't be kept at a slow pace. This definitely seems to be the case. You don't select a single card in a given turn. Instead, you select cards in succession as part of a combination, with moves coming out as you attack. Cards have numbers atop them which determine the kind of combo that you're performing. Lining up cards with "2," "3," "4," and "5" together (or in reverse) will give you a "straight" combo. A 2-2-1-1 combination is called a "pair." Building up a combo is the key to dealing out greater damage and even developing new cards. There are other ways to build up combos aside from these poker-like combinations. You can try to think of natural combinations of the images presented on cards for some interesting results. These cards, by the way, are properly referred to as "Maguns" in the Baten Kaitos world. Outside of performing combos, you can earn Magnus (or is the plural "magnii"?) through a variety of means. You can buy them in town, collect them in dungeons, and pick them up when enemies drop them. Magnus can also evolve into new forms (a rock ice magnus -- that is to say, a card with a picture of rock ice on it -- will change into a mineral water magnus, for instance). In all, you'll find 1000 different types of Maguns in the game, covering a range of battle spells, attacks and items. The magnus aren't just used for attacks. Enemies also use cards in their attacks, and if you want to properly defend yourself, you have to select an appropriate combo. If an enemy sets up a straight, for instance, setting up a pair will result in less damage from the enemy's attack. In most RPGs, clear a battle and you'll see a stats screen showing how much experience you gained and so-forth. In Baiten Katos, you see a similar screen after every mini-confrontation within a battle. The stats screen computes how much final damage you or the enemy incurs based off card use. It seems that you can think of battles as collections of short, fast-paced card-fights between enemies and the characters in your party. To be honest, we were only able to scratch the surface of the battle system in our fifteen minutes with the game and there's plenty about which we're not sure (we're sure you're confused as well, having read the above description). Expect a deeper, clearer update once we've had a chance to spend quality time with the game, perhaps close to its early December Japanese release date.
There's some new movies too, although they aren't the best quality. The game looks great though and the animation looks excellent. Sounds like a lot of fun. Namco has said this is coming to the US for sure, and considering we're not getting Tales of Symphonia until early Spring 2004, I wouldn't expect this until sometime after that (but who knows -- apparently the voices are all in English, so that's one less thing for them to do compared to ToS). What is an ig? IQ? lol Anyway, did you get your stuff working or not? Because if so, I see no reason to keep this thread alive.

I'm hearing very average things about Reality. I've yet to personally hear it. People say bad things about Hours... too, but I thought it was fun to listen to. If you want recent Bowie material, just get Heathen.

Yeah. I know when it takes place, but the song is still rather goofy and out of place in my opinion. This is the sort of song they play when Bond drinks a Martini lol.

I guess I have some local Chicago "famous" relatives. I don't know much about my ancestry. My Great Grandpa Quigley was in charge of the Department of Sanitation here in Chicago, which doesn't sound like anything amazing... but whatever else he did in his lifespan apparently made him a big deal around here. I really don't know that much about him. My Grandpa Roti was Sheriff Deputy of Chicago. He was also part of the mob in some fashion. I don't know to what degree as no one ever really talks about it, but he was on the higher half of it all, at the least. My Uncle Fred Roti got in trouble over some stuff involving all that and got sent to prison. I remember it being on the news and them showing him walking in the courtroom. I think that's the most I can remember ever even seeing of him. I believe he passed away since then. No one like a movie star.

Well, I was at one point, a massive Shirow fan. I was going through the same thing as you heh. First of all, get the Appleseed manga series along with the databook (6 books total). You won't be disappointed. It's excellent stuff. I read it before I saw the anime. The anime is very, very mediocre. Some of the ideas in it are decent, but on a whole it has very little to do with the manga. It's extremely dated at this point, especially the English version. The dub isn't terrible, but it's nothing to get excited over. The worst part is probably all the lame elevator music in it. Anime distributors here seemed to love putting that crap in their tapes back then. Personally, I wouldn't bother. Maybe if you've not read the manga it'd be decent... but by comparison it is just terrible.

http://jpn01.konami.co.jp/movie/mgs3/mgs3_tgs2k3_e.wmv New trailer. For some reason it's labeled as a Twin Snakes trailer in WMP, who knows why. It's about 22 MBs and 5 minutes long. Not as washed out as the Twin Snakes trailer, and sounds great. Trailer is odd. The game looks awesome, but the song at the end kind of threw me off. Like 60s James Bond themes lol.

It was so bad that it was taken off the air in Japan. I think in a country that puts cartoon characters on toilet paper, that's saying something.

Most anime sucks as it is. They're probably doing these kids a service by not letting them watch it.

Thanks for the nice-ities. This image has been a pain in my ***. I turned it in with everyone else as a TIFF to be printed. Our teacher submitted them all online to some printing company called Helix here. I heard randomly that someone's print didn't come out. So when I went to pick it up, guess whose it was? Yeah. Mine. God hates me. Fine enough. I didn't have to mount the damn thing, which is nice. The teacher told me to come pick it up today. So when I find him today, he tells me he doesn't have it. I'll have to pick it up next quarter, which starts after next week. He told me I got an A on it though. I would have liked to have seen it on this paper though. Photographic printers can make anything look awesome.

Previously I've heard him described as a "Dave Matthews Wannabe", which didn't exactly excite me. Between Dave and the Matthew Good Band (which reminds me of Dave Matthews with a heavier twist), I've had enough. I'm tempted to bother checking this out since some people whose music opinions I actually respect are saying good things in here... but I don't know yet. I still have to buy the new Misfits and Bowie :(

This sort of stuff requires nothing more than PMs.
