Closing Down OB Picture Archive (Get What You Want Now)
Semjaza replied to Semjaza's topic in General Discussion
I really don't feel like having to download the stuff to my computer. There's a lot of it. If you want a FTP login for it so you can download it yourself, feel free to ask. -
Closing Down OB Picture Archive (Get What You Want Now)
Semjaza posted a topic in General Discussion
Some may know this, some may not, but I host Queen Asuka's OB Picture Archive on my website. Due to moving things around and lack of time and interest on Tori's and my behalf, I decided to shut it down. I don't really know where else to put this thread and this is really the only worthwhile place. It doesn't belong in the website or art sections because this thread isn't dealing with those particular facets of th e subject. I need a way to inform as many people as possible that use the site without hunting them down individually. I don't even know who half of them are. If you have some pictures up there you want for whatever reason, go now and get them. I don't plan on leaving it up much longer... when my hosting with this particular company ends, it is gone. That's it. At the very most, that gives until the end of December. If someone is interested in running the actual site for whatever reason, let me know. You'll need your own hosting and a mySQL database to run the software it currently uses. You don't have to use that if you don't want to, but in either case it's up to you. I'm not going to help aside from sending the files and the database. I will not continue to host it. It's currently at http://72.29.65.136/~slownerv/obpics/ Thanks. -
I actually find it quite annoying at times, despite the fact that GS uses it and I run the place. There's a lot of times where you click the submit button and absolutely nothing happens. Luckily you can go to advanced edit and fix it, but it's still annoying. I believe it's only available in certain versions of vB and higher. I don't rememeber what version of the software OB runs... but if it is added, it will likely have to wait until James and Justin do the next version.

I honestly don't think it's going to happen in the US for a long time. If Hilary Clinton winds up running, regardless of how bad her opponent could possibly be, a huge section of the US would simply not vote for her. I don't agree with it, but it's just how it seems to be in this country right now. Even with the polls showing a majority of people against the current administration in some form or another, I really feel like a good section of this country would vote on the reason of sex and sex alone. She'd have an incredibly tough time, particularly when you know really not many Republicans would want to vote for her just based on her last name to begin with lol. There's a big difference in many voters' minds between a seat on something like the senate and the commander in-chief of the country. It's a line that's still hard to cross here. Same for even just black (or other races) men... I mean, seriously, there's only one black guy in the senate. There's a lot of people, particularly older white males, who have a very set idea of how things should be. They seemingly have a lot of pull for whatever reason. Really, the only shot the US has at this right now really is Hilary... which I think is a bit of a problem. I don't even think I'd vote for her, even if I generally disagree with Republicans. Her views on nearly everything are so pathetically vague that it's hard to even want to give her the benefit of the doubt. For me it's not a matter of sex as much as it is a matter of agreement and balance.
Because if we didn't know the lyrics we wouldn't know why we hate the song...
That and most songs people hate are blasted on the radio, MTV and god knows what else so often that it's impossible to not at least know the chorus. I'd severely doubt anyone that hated a song would know the verses to the songs, but choruses are repeated so often in pop that it's just subliminal.

Nah... Peter Jackson had nothing to do with this movie. He did Lord of the Rings, etc. The guy who did this was previously known for his work on the Shrek films. Andrew Adamson, or something like that. This is his first time working with live action as a director. As I said before, I had little problem with the pacing. Yeah, it's fast... but I really don't feel like much more would have been gotten out of it if it was 3 hours long. It would be a bunch of largely useless padding. I don't think a lot of it would have benefited from being longer as much as it would have benefited from being approached in a different way... of course, stuff like the Beaver's home scene did seem remarkably short for something so intrinsic to the film. I guess it needs a better balance, really.
-
As Shinji asked, what films of Jackson's would be remakes anyway? The Lord of the Rings films were adapted from books, not those weird animated films. I don't really see the correlation here lol. I just wanted to revoice that. In any case, the film looks interesting to me. No one I know seems to want to see it, though, so who knows when I'll get around to it. I've read mostly good reviews, at least... the ones that were a bit more negative seemed to be from people I never agree with to begin with (i.e., IGN).

I don't know that this is a "blow" to Wikipedia at all... no more than it has been in the past. Not much has happened thanks to that before. This happens on a very regular basis on many entries because any one and every one can edit them quickly and easily. It's most common on things of "controversy" such as things about recent politics or even the Marilyn Manson page. It does give more fodder to encyclopedia freaks who complain about how it can never be perfect because of this very reason. I can't say I care because it's generally more useful than not.

Gaming Poll: Blinks the Time Sweeper OR Prince Of Persia
Semjaza replied to SilverAngelZero's topic in Noosphere
I figured this would be more about "which game made better use of time altering?" and then I'd vote Prince of Persia just because that's a fact. -
Honestly, I don't know why the original is looked to as though it's a great movie to begin with. It's not bad. It's entertaining and has a decent feel about it, but it's not really anything that any other largely mindless action movie hasn't afforded us. Why it needed three additional films I'll never know.
-
I think a lot of it is how you approach it. The game is clearly aimed at people who don't regularly play video games to begin with. The same type of crowd that was interested in Tamigotchi devices, really. If you go into it expecting to play it hardcore and have forty things to do every day, you're not going to like it... I find this is the approach of a lot of people and in doing so, I'm not surprised that they find nothing to do in a week and grow impatient with it. There's obviously other reasons such as Armana's as well, which I would agree with. My girlfriend who really never played any games at the time seemed to put far more into it than I ever did... but she paced herself and played for extremely short bursts. That's really what it's designed for. The game, admittedly, does not have a billion things to do. It could have benefited with more competitions and what-not. By the time you do most of what it has to offer, however, I really doubt that it's any shorter than most other games. I had a dog at home too (and I have two cats at my apartment) and I really don't find the overall experience that comparable. Whether or not you have a dog really doesn't speak negatively of this game at all.
-
Oh, I almost entirely forgot about those. I actually agree very strongly with what you're saying in that case. It actually took a few minutes before I realized it wasn't a trailer for another film heh. Really, I don't think a lot of that was necessary. The close-ups are what drew away from it... I would say the silhouettes in the sky were more than effective all by themselves and really would have been plenty.

I can't use Flash right now, but is this that lame video that's got a bunch of hard rock music in it and a quotes? Most of them seemed worthwhile, but there was one that was obviously from a forum member of some place lol. In any case, a lot of the things that did happen at that scene are suspicious... Between the photos, quotes from people there, the actual damange, etc. What exactly that means is any one's guess really.
-
The movie could have admittedly benefitted from being longer, but overall I had no real problem with the pacing. In some ways it felt rushed, but in other ways it avoided completely useless downtime that is very, very prevalent in so many other fantasy films. Strangely, I've read reviews that seem to complain about how slow it is and others that complain about how fast it is. I didn't have much of a problem with the balance of it... that's kind of just how the book flows. Next to nothing happens and then a bunch of stuff happens lol. I didn't really get a lot of LotR feeling from it, but I figure a lot of people will. It's probably only been attempted at all because of that series' success in the first place. I didn't really find any of the CGI to be "laughably bad", but there were many times that it was obviously computer generated. That's true of really 99% of films, though. The make-up and costume effects largely made up for it. While I understand why the film avoided showing a lot of direct violence, I did find it to be a bit of a problem. As mentioned,
it winds up relegating the death of Maugrim to a total accident
and removes a lot of its purpose and feeling. The battle scenes, largely, still wind up feeling as forceful and violent as they should. I found these scenes to be well directed since you could easily tell what was going on without it ruining the flow. Most films seem to rely on a chaotic scene where next to everything is hard to really make out. I keep reading reviews that seem intent on finding problems with the film, as well. Many of them really, really overblow the Christian themes. They're almost totally glossed over in the film compared to the books. Yes, the idea is there, but I doubt anyone enjoying the film would even really pay much attention to it; whereas, in the books, it's basically beating you over the head. It just seems like something for certain people/groups to latch on to, making their decision before they even see the film. Overall, I thought it was good. It's certainly better than most films of its ilk I hear a lot about, but won't mention the names of to avoid problems lol. However, considering this is Adamson's first film directing live action, I think it turned out rather well. I think the mistakes made in this film could be easily rectified even by the next one.

I don't really think any one was scared by Freddy vs Jason. I also think the people who made that knew that would be true. It's the same reason pretty much every film in both series is ridiculous in some way. I mean, really, Jason X? Some of the films were obviously trying way too hard with some really awful material, but the later ones, particularly Freddy vs Jason, were obviously just trying to appeal to fans and let people have some fun. I don't know why anyone would expect anything else out of it. A lot of the things being mentioned in here are pretty run of the mill. I'd not consider most of them scary either, when it comes down to it. Most horror movies are not going to actively frighten most people because people know they're not real. I kind of approach them in a different way and like to just see some excellent work or some humor. I'm into horror movies that are purposely funny and I know a lot of people aren't... but I also like the more serious ones providing they are well done. It doesn't really matter how much they "scare" me. Susperia, Changeling, The Fly and Videodrone are good examples of ones I've enjoyed.

Woman who knew she was HIV positive Breast fed her daughter
Semjaza replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
I've heard a lot about this movement stating how our current beliefs of AIDS are completely incorrect as is mentioned in this article. I even saw it on some music board since members of the Foo Fighters apparently agree with it. However, it doesn't seem like they have anything to back it up aside from some coincidences... either way, it certainly has less proof than what's currently believed. -
Pretty much every new console or major device goes through that process in order to get the things out there. Over time, as production prices decrease, they generally make a profit on the item. It's a rather common practice. $150 is quite a bit for a console, though.

Yeah, I also think it is important to note that none of these developers apparently have worked directly with the GPU at all. IGN seems to gloss over this as though it's not very important, but I imagine that some thoughts on its power will increase once that's available in the kits. I was reading about some weird patent Nintendo recently got the rights to that involved some sort of graphics technique that would basically allow a comparatively less-powerful card to do some pretty crazy stuff. Who knows if it's feasible or if they're even using it. The GameCube wound up being pretty strong. Hell, so did the PS2 near the end of its lifespan. Twice as powerful isn't so bad in my opinion... but obviously it's going to annoy some people who are bent on the whole "graphics are king" thing such as that guy at Epic. Personally, after playing some Xbox 360 stuff, graphics aren't enough for me anymore. I don't know if the Revolution will pull off any of its new gameplay ideas well, but I hope it does. Strangely, not one of the three consoles is a definite purchase for me yet... but $150 sure as hell has my attention. For each of them I'm kind of waiting on a killer-app (all of which have one announced for me, at least, but not necessarily released yet).

I feel it does increase readability (I do it on my own site), but honestly, 99% of websites don't utilize indents on paragraphs. If it bothered you that much, you'd probably be going insane by now lol. The way browsers are set up, pressing Tab brings you to the next element down the line. It wouldn't really help either way. Instead, as Desbreko was talking about, it would have to be enabled in the CSS somewhere. I am sure there would be ways to do it that are less complex than Desbreko is describing (such as id= or class= for any paragraph inputed by the user or whatever), but I don't exactly have the code right in front of me. Unlike what he's saying, that would obviously be forced, because allowing users to do it (as he was thinking) would just be a pain and a waste (why have something like that that most people would never use? It would just look odd for some people to use it and most to not). I imagine James and Justin have more pressing matters, either way heh.
The series was perhaps one of the most creative series on television. Faded into obscurity? You do know it was by the same designer who made Reign the Conqueror right? While Reign didn't quite make it as well, I enjoyed it a lot. I'm thinking Aeon Flux's fan-base being what it is (or was) will support this film. That coupled with a downright cool storyline is enough to make a film.
Whether or not you or some people enjoy it is irrelevent. The show hasn't been on TV in years, the series didn't hit DVD until the release of the movie and no one really talks about it anymore. I'd say that's pretty much "obscurity". I don't recall saying it did horribly and no one liked it or that the creator disappeared off the face of the earth. I also don't recall saying anything about Theron's acting ability. I also don't see how some people not mentioning it on some film board means much to anyone lol. I don't feel she fits the character in looks or style. In some of the shots, she has some deep lines under her eyes... She looks tired and she does in other films too. I feel it makes her look a bit too old for the role, but not in a "man, she looks like a grandma!!!" way. I don't know how that is being taken in any other way. A lot of this is just putting (many, many) words in my mouth. You're making it seem like I'm attacking the whole concept of the series or something. There's not really any need to defend it because I'm not attacking it at all. I don't see how it could adequately be portrayed in a live action film with Theron and judging from reviews (some of which are on film boards) not many people are disagreeing lol.

Nintendo lists their shipping date as the sale date. It's a rarity to be able to get it on a Monday unless you live near the shipping area, if even then. So Tuesday should be the day for 99.9% of us. And yeah, I plan on trading some crap in to pick it up that day lol.

Tree of Knowledge? I don't know lol. I don't honestly have a problem with the way you did the roots at all. I don't really think the design requires anything beyond what you've done already. It works and it looks good. The color usage is great. I don't really care for most of what is on Threadless (I'm not into totally random, pointless shirts in general -- obviously I'm in a tiny minority), but I do like what you've done thus far. I didn't really know you worked with this kind of stuff. Nice job.

I have to admit after playing the thing awhile back my interest shot down close to zero. I don't know what I was expecting, but there's already a sense of "generation fatigue" for me and the generation has barely started. The whole sense of "same stuff, better looking" just isn't grabbing me at all. I am interested in some future releases such as RPGs, further news on the new Shadowrun title and the appearance of any talk of a Forza or Rallisport Challenge game. I was looking at the back at some games and I was sad to see that a few of them only support 720p. I can run 480p and 1080i, but not 720p (I got my HDTV before that really was becoming a standard feature)... It basically means I can't run stuff like Perfect Dark Zero or PGR3 in HD at all, apparently.

A good deal of the ones mentioned in my post are more "underground" as far as that goes, as well. I'd also recommend Blue Scholars... I've been fond of them lately.

"Over thataway? Around the perimeter, I mean. We'll head deeper into the complex--for now, at least." Persona cocked his head to the left, casting his eyes briefly in the general direction Okita had pointed to. Reasons as to why he seemed so quick to send him off on his own flew through his mind, but only in passing. After all, he didn't exactly care to remain as a trio to begin with. Persona nodded and headed off. Echo and Okita walked quietly into the shadows located in the opposite direction. It was obvious that this section of the studio grounds had not been used in quite some time. Thick layers of dust covered countless crates and tools. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary visually, although a strong smell permeated the entire area to varying degrees. It was a smell Persona recognized instantly. He continued to press his way through the piles of boxes and papers strewn about, getting closer and closer to the source of the stench. It got so thick that it felt like he could reach out into the air before him and grab it. Pushing past yet another row of boxes, Persona found himself in a small clearing. Wooden and metal crates covered the area on all sides, forming a "room" of sorts. Beams of light coming from a handful dingy window high up on the wall cast heavy shadows, making it very difficult to make out much of anything important. Heavy clouds of dust could be seen floating in the beams, catching a lot of the light and making things even more difficult to see. Still, the smell was unmistakably radiating from this section. His shoes stuck to the floor as he walked, making a quiet sound similar to tearing Velcro pieces away from each other. He made his way to the center, following dull, blinking colored lights that almost seemed to be floating in space. These lights turned out to be attached to some sort of device. It consisted of a large platform and casing with various knobs and levers and two small towers topped with glass spheres. Two thick cables ran from this box to what appeared to be a gurney. Open crates littered the area, some full of objects and some empty. It was clear that a majority of the smell came from these crates. Persona leaned over and peered into the one closest to him. It contained what appeared to be human hair and skin. Dried blood caked everything within it and at this point he realized what was making the floor so sticky. A nearby metal case was filled with some sort of chunky liquid. Whatever was going on in this room, Persona was positive it wasn't on the up and up. He quietly made his way to the gurney and saw that it was occupied, although not by anything living. Various pieces of obviously different female bodies were clumsily stitched together, forming some sort of Frankenstein's monster. The cables from the nearby device were plugged into a second device next to the gurney that fanned out into even more wires, all of which were connected to this human concoction. At this point Persona realized that he had seen an eerily similar set-up to this in an old, black and white rip-off of Frankenstein from Mammon itself. Still, it seemed unlikely that any of this would work . . . although he had seen stranger things in his lifetime. Persona relaxed a bit and thought of the other members of his current team. His senses tightened, allowing him to make out some far-off sounds elsewhere in the building. As he made his way closer to the section where he had last seen Echo and Okita, the noise increased. It was clear that a fight was well underway.
