1. You mean they're not exactly like they are in the movies...? Crazy.
2. I once had a kid tell me I was stupid because I said ninja were Japanese in origin and not Chinese. He was a "smart" upperclassman, I guess... pfft. I guess having a Chinese girlfriend made him well versed in the ways of the ninja. I think the best thing you can do is refer to the plural of ninja as "ninja" and not "ninjas". I think it makes you look a bit more credible. The Japanese don't differentiate between plural and singular versions of words, from what I understand. Same with "anime" and "manga".

Johnny Cash

Think what you want about John Ritter... but he rocked in Three's Company as well as that really cool animated movie, Flight of Dragons. Has anyone else seen that? Ritter was only like 54. I believe he had a heart attack on stage for his new, apparently successful sitcom (although I didn't care for it). It was almost like a comeback for him. It's more tragic in the sense that it was very unexpected compared to Cash. On top of this, I believe his best friend had died in close proximity to his death. That's a bit much, I'd say.
4.
Originally posted by Silent Yeah,I understand perfectly well why they changed *some* things, but can anyone tell me why Mystique had to be nude. . .?I mean,as far as I know, she's always worn clothes. The only reasonable explanation is that she's naked just to bring in more people, but I'd really like to think there's a more depthful reasoning behind it. . .In addition, why doesn't she talk?I mean, she's got about 10(if *that* many) lines between both movies. . .In the comics,Mystique never had a hard time talking. And she often had her own agenda, apart from Magneto's,whereas in the movie, she's just sort of another one of his lackeys(sp?). . .
I'm going to ignore the rest of this thread and go with this for a second. If you think about it... why would Mystique wear clothes at all? When she's herself, she has no real visible genitalia anyway. So she's just going to shift to a version of herself with clothes? What would be the point? She's already a bizarre looking mutant lol. If she had real clothes on... they wouldn't go away when she shifted. If she had some tight pink suit on, what would happen if she had to shift into a fat, short man in a suit? When she shifts she takes on the form of the person's clothes as well anyway. The pink suit wouldn't just disappear, it would be on her over everything else in some fashion. To me that makes more sense like this.
5. I don't even understand the point of this argument. Do people know what copyrights are? Do people know the contracts these bands get into that obviously involve the RIAA on some form? Claiming that you own the songs because you bought them is bull****. Yes, you own the CD... fine enough. So if you buy a book, you own it? You can post it wherever the hell you feel like just because you bought that single copy? Apply this to video games, movies, TV shows and anything else with a copyright on them. I understand the argument that the RIAA technically doesn't own the songs themselves. I actually agree with it, and it's most likely the reason why they haven't done their own version of Kazaa and just forgotten about all this crap. However, the idea of throwing around the definition of "ownership" like that is really ridiculous. You're pulling at straws to justify something that obviously is not legal. Whether or not you agree with it is another matter, but that doesn't change its definition or what it is. This is just semantics. And really, I don't how how anyone can compare sharing songs with millions of people to lending a friend a CD. As for the twelve year old, I really think that is most likely blown out of proportion. First of all, they'd most likely get the kid's IP address. I doubt they'd just mail her through the program, as it's probably expected that the email wouldn't be legit as it is. She's 12, she wouldn't have a checking account or credit card to pay the ISP most likely. Her parents would, and thus they are the results that the RIAA would get by searching out this IP and talking to the ISP about it. She just happens to be the one that downloaded the songs, so she's the one mentioned in the news article. I severely doubt it was directly targeted at her as much as it was targeted at the people who pay for the damn connection in general. I download MP3s. Not on a regular basis. When I do, they're imports or bootlegged concerts of bands that don't fall under the RIAA nonsense as it is. Stuff I can't get in general. This isn't me justifying what I do over what anyone else does. It's just me saying that I do this same stuff. I honestly have no real problem with people downloading MP3s in general (despite how it may seem)... as long as they realize what they are getting into. How can they not? Especially with all the disclaimers on these programs and the news right now. Yet people still do it. And when they get caught, they're the victim because the RIAA is evil. EVIL!!! That's what I have a problem with. The fact that despite all this, people still are surprised that they can get in trouble. The fact that people think they'reRobin Hood by stealing from the "rich" and giving to the "poor". The fact that people think they can justify it because you're going against the system in some form. Give me a break. You're not the victim. If anyone, the artists are the main victims at the hands of the RIAA in the first place. You're just kicking them while they're down. Good job. People aren't even giving them the small bit of scraps they can manage to scrounge up from these terrible contracts... because let's face it, we all know no one on this planet is going to buy merchandise and tickets to see every single band whose songs they've downloaded. Reforming the RIAA and figuring out better ways is one thing. I don't think the stuff people are coming up with in here really will help any of it whatsoever. Keep the dream alive, I guess.
6. This is a very big problem in the art forum as well, I think. The big difference in the art forum is that there generally isn't much in the way of words in the original post. Very few people even try to explain what they do. I don't know if I can blame them either. Whenever I write a decent sized post about my art, I find few read it. People make comments about things that I already addressed in my first post. Others come back and change their rating number (a process I hate, by the way) because they didn't read my explanation. It's very aggrivating. It's also why I don't post my work in there. So, my point is that I understand the problem... but from a different angle. Really, I suppose things can be done about the problem, though. One of the problems I've found though, is that when Mitch, for example, asks someone to post a bit better... they basically tell him to shut up. I've had the same problem, and I've also had people post whole new threads saying I was a jerk or just whining in general. The big difference is that I can actually kick them out of here heh. So threats work, I suppose.
7. I know all of the words to The Call by the Backstreet Boys. It doesn't mean anything lol. I don't run around buying their stuff, nor do I really care for them on any level. There are many split up genres like that as it is. Punks and metalheads are supposed to hate eachother for whatever reason. People just like to hate things they don't understand/enjoy. Others perhaps don't like the commercial rap industry or whatever else. I know I really don't. Most people don't go past that superficial surface to discover that there are other, better things out there. People can hate whatever type of music they want, I don't really care. Not many seems to love most of what I do as it is. Some people just like to force their opinions out like that, I guess. I mean, I don't like any of the bands/musicians you've mentioned so far at all. I do listen to some hip hop stuff, just like I listen to other genres. I personally don't see the big deal, so I guess I can't fully explain why people do it.
8. I'm really surprised it's being put on GCN. This is good news.
9. The artists also have to watch out for cameras and such at those shows. If they act all pissed off at the show, a tabloid can spin it into whatever the hell they want to really. It's mostly publicity. I guess people just hate what they don't understand. I don't like most rap that I hear, but I don't hate rap itself. I don't go around saying it sucks either. I guess people just have to come to terms with the fact that if you don't like something, it doesn't make you right and everyone else wrong... especially in something as subjective as music.
10. He screwed it up mostly because he has really terrible ideas interspersed with the good ones. Now, thanks to his past success, he has so many Yes Men around him that he gets to do his "real vision" which apparently means not making the new ones consistent with the older ones. Mitochlorians? Come on. Back on Empire Strikes Back, he had this one guy on his *** all the time (whose name escapes me). That's why it turned out like it did. The guy told Lucas what was a good idea and what wasn't, to actually make it a serious film. If it wasn't for him, there'd probably be dancing muppets in that movie as well. In Jedi, this same guy wanted to kill off Han Solo and basically have Luke be alone for the rest of his life. Of course, the movie instead ends with a Ewok party. On top of that, the actors actually told Lucas when they didn't think things would work or that they didn't want to do some of the dialogue he came up with (he admits he is a very poor dialogue writer). He had people keeping him in check. He doesn't have that anymore. Really, the originals didn't exactly have wonderful writing as it is, but the actors made up for it. Only a handful do in the new ones. I like A New Hope and Return of the Jedi. I love Empire Strikes Back. I hate Phantom Menace. I can tolerate Attack of the Clones. That about covers it.

Johnny Cash

This is news to me. At least he got one last album out before he passed away. I never heard anything off of it, other than that Hurt cover.
12. I stay home quite often. It was mostly my final year of high school though. I had gone to one school for three years, and it closed down. I wound up having to go somewhere else and I hated it. They allowed up to 10 absences per semmester I believe. After five you were supposed to get some sort of doctor's note, but the guy in charge of all that seemed to like me, so he never asked. I took total advantage of this. If I'm allowed that many, that's how many I'm taking. I didn't get in much trouble for it, although my government teacher tried to start some crap. I hated that guy.
13. There's a FF forum, so I'll move that here. Someone else can decide if this needs to stay open or not. FF isn't a Sony thing. It's a Square thing. They can put it really anywhere they feel like. At one point Sony owned a decent sized share of Square. It wasn't enough that they'd get their way, but it was enough that they could influence Square's decisions. However, once Square and Enix merged, Sony's share amount went down. Before the merger, Square made a little studio called Game Development Studio (or something really lame like that). They are basically a paper company, seemingly existing only to get funds from Nintendo. At the time Nintendo had founded something called the Q-Fund, which helped new, small studios financially if they wanted to make GC games. Square couldn't take advantage of this, but technically their new studio could. So Nintendo wound up with a FF game, and Sony really couldn't do jack about it. They couldn't anyway, because they're not a majority owner in the company by a longshot. This kind of bypassed anything they did though... because the new studio wasn't technically Square, and Nintendo was going to publish the game. In any case, the Nintendo game is called Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. It plays nothing like the standard series. It's more of a spin off and is basically an action RPG geared towards multiple players. It's not a standard RPG like the rest of the series. Also, Nintendo had FF in the first place. Sony got it later. Things like this happen all the time. There is a thread on Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles in here if you want to check it out.
14. I've seen it. I heard many good things, so I checked it out. All I'm going to say is that I found it extremely boring. I didn't feel that it really did anything it did better than the tons of other anime out that are practically just like it. That's me though.

"Older" Music

I was playing Winamp and my Scorpions stuff came up. I can't believe I forgot to mention them in here. They really are a great band. I like them quite a bit.
16. Question answered. Please post in one of the various other .Hack threads here in the future.
17. Who Framed Roger Rabbit? wasn't all that hard... It was just really poorly laid out. Very little was provided to help you along on your cause. You seemingly were just supposed to know where you could find certain items. Most of my time was spent walking around just looking in all the damn buildings. Took me forever to even get to Toon Town. Battletoads was mostly memorization in that level. I had no real problem with it after the first few tries.
18. I sing along with pretty much any song I play. I'm told I'm pretty good, but I think I outright suck. I'm not really trying either way, so oh well. I don't even have a radio in the bathroom that I could sing along with... I'm not going to randomly start singing for no reason. I need accompaniment lol.
19. I've heard a few of her songs, and I just found it odd. They're not badly written or played by that genre's standards... but I just don't get how anyone cannot realize how synthesized her voice is in all of those songs. I saw the closing scene of her movie as well, and it had the same thing. I've not heard a female singer in quite some time that seemingly relies on production and computer help as much as she does. I know some groups make it really obvious that they are using computers along with their voice. Cher has done that in the past, among others... but this seems like they're almost trying to conceal it, but barely can. So I wonder how she sounds without all that. I'm guessing not so hot.
20. Labyrinth is awesome. I remember seeing an old magazine of my uncle's with Jim Henson and some of the characters from the movie on a cover. He was sitting there with his head in his lap, apparently because the movie totally flopped. I guess it just really broke his spirits and such. There seems to be a cult following behind it, though. I don't know why though. It's awesome. I love David Bowie, so I love this movie even more. I can't think of anything I don't like about it. They recently rereleased it as a Superbit on DVD. Superbit's have better sound and video quality over most other DVDs (although Superbit is just some trademark). The rerelease has really nice 5.1 sound, but I'm stuck with the old version... it just has two speaker stereo :( I want to hear the music on all my speakers lol. Dark Crystal I've not seen in quite some time. I do own it on VHS though. It's very cool, but I don't think it's as good as Labyrinth.

Underworld

They have a case, atlough some of it is iffy. A good deal of White Wolf's case is rather stupid considering they didn't invent vampires. I've seen the list of problems the creator had with the film, and while many are rather ridiculous as they're just parts of vampire mythology, the rest are obviously rather unique to the series. The movie makes use of a lot of these, so there are definitely similiar attributes.
22. The fact that she's not part of the show anymore has been known for quite some time. I said it in that other thread too, and seemingly no one else knew it. She basically just wanted more money from what I read back then. This "working environment" thing sounds like just an excuse because of it.
23. I am deeply disturbed by the lack of Shy in this thread. Since he isn't here for some reason, I shall mention Bosko. The first and greatest Looney Tune. Anyone that isn't familiar with him and his friends is simply missing out. Popeye is way up there too.
24.
Originally posted by Lady Macaiodh It's funny how seriously people are taking this idea with their answers.... Our pets are dumb. They don't even know what the concept of "god" is. There.
Haha. I had been waiting for someone to say this. You can't be a god to something that doesn't even comprehend religion. It's a fun idea, but that's about it lol.

"Older" Music

There are a lot of local bands that hit it big back then too. Local being Chicago for me. I'm sure most people know that Gloria song. It went "G-L-O-R-I-A Gloooorriaaa!" I think it was done by Shadows of the Knight or something. There was also another band called Ides of March that was pretty cool. The biggest was of course named after the city. Chicago. For whatever reason, I never see them mentioned in classic rock threads anywhere anymore. They had a lot of just great songs. My personal favorite was "25 or 6 to 4". "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" is probably their biggest, I'd say. Speaking of the Misfits... I picked up Famous Monsters, Static Age and Walk Among Us. I'm loving all of it. Helena, Hunting Humans, Descending Angel and Hybrid Moments are my favorites so far... but it's all great. Famous Monsters is probably my favorite overall disc out of the three. I never really listened to tons of them before this, but now I'm regretting it.
