Dream Theater is a five piece band. In terms of the various orchestrated parts, I'd have to assume they get guests and such. It's honestly not something I've personally looked into, so I cannot give much of a history on it. They've been around a decent amount of time. I forget when they got started exactly, but they had been playing around years before their first real CD was released... I think in '89. They were originally called Majesty, but they had to change their name to Dream Theater. As far as I know, only some demos were released under the name Majesty. So they're not exactly a new thing. They have something like 15 albums out at this point. As for the songs themselves... they can get a bit repetitive, but in general, I don't find it to be a problem. Also keep in mind, all the stuff mentioned so far is off Six Degrees of Inner Turbulance, which isn't considered their best. Anyway, everyone should get into these guys :)

I've been watching anime since I was like 7... and that's not counting random goofy stuff that just happened to be made in Japan. I'm talking stuff like Macross: Do You Remember Love? and Vampire Hunter D. That was 14 years ago now. I know anime well enough to know what to expect and what not to. I'm not going into this thinking that it must be perfect, it isn't like that. I know what to expect with anime, on many levels. I get the impression that many people here think I don't really watch or know anything about anime. I've had people say that to me too. It's rather far from the truth. On top of that, based on my personality and posts in general.... can anyone ever back up the idea that I don't give things a chance? Or that I jump to conclusions based on very little? I'd say in very few circumstances. That's not something in my blood really, and I don't think I should be called out on that. I've seen about 10 episodes of this show, and it never seems to get any better. It seems to have the same appeal as DBZ... goofy action with supposed character depth, that in my opinion, isn't really there. Sure, they have personalites, but they're so one dimensional, it doesn't even matter. Of course, I'm sure I've not seen these final episodes you all are going on and on about, so I'll have to see those before I make a real, final decision. I'm not even sure what some of you are going on about at this point. My compaints with the visuals and dubbing were minor ones. I said that in the first place. I find the characters themselves, based on the 10 episodes I've seen, to be very flat, and basically annoying. As for the three teeth guy, I don't think any amount of backstory can make up for how incredibly lame he is. This isn't about an anime being perfect. Everything has flaws. I'm just not seeing what makes this something that is apparently well above average in the eyes of a good deal of people here. I go from Trigun to Cowboy Bebop and it's like going from a pile of dog crap to the ambrosia of the gods. I just don't get what is so special about this show. If you guys love it, that's great. I have no problem with that, and I'm not trying to convince anyone otherwise. I just want to know what people think is so great just incase I'm just not getting something. Based on what I've read so far, I'm guessing Xai said it best. It's just not my cup of tea, so to speak. Like I said before, I'll have to look into the supposedly best episodes you keep mentioning.

It is an anime. I've already seen the fansubs of it. Didn't find it to be anything specially, personally.

The movie made nearly $40 million it's opening weekend. It's safe to say that not "almost all" in any part of the country agrees with you lol. The movie had a positive buzz around it for quite some time. Anyway, Micheal Myers would be lame as hell. Come on. The guy doesn't talk. He's basically Jason with a different mask. Ash at least has a personality to match Freddy's... and a freaking chainsaw arm. I'd see that movie. Of course, two totally silent killers who get nearly all of their personality from what others in the film say about them would be much better. No way lol. I'd have little interest in that.

Gaming Is anybody still addicted to Animal Crossing?
Originally posted by Haruko_Kagome actualy, in japan animal crossing 2 is there ac 3 becase the first one in japan was for nintendo 64. and uh... yeah there is gonna be an animal crossing 2 where you could design your own furniture and stuff
They aren't sequels though. They're just remakes of the same thing with some additions. That's like saying the 10 versions of original Resident Evil out are all sequels to eachother. -
Whenever I see kids like that, I hope security grabs them and throws them in a back room somewhere. Then bad things can ensue.

Anyone that says "tré" is automatically cool in my book. Here's my girle emotions... :( lol Quite a while back I was dating this girl named Colleen. She lived in Dayton, Ohio (school is in Athens, which is even farther)... I live in Chicago, Illinois. It's over a seven hour drive, and that's assuming I'm speeding and there's no traffic. Anyway, we basically fell in love with eachother. There was a long, nearly two year process that lead up to it. When I went to visit her, we just decided to stay together. Honestly, where else am I going to find a girl that has eclectic rock music tastes, loves cartoons, thinks pet fish are the best things ever and likes coloring books... yet still remains mature and intelligent? Probably nowhere. She rocked. Anyway, we were together for about seven months. Perhaps not a long time by many standards, but it felt like an eternity. I worked and went to college. So did she. I was also the only one who drove at the time, so it was basically all up to me. Eventually it just got too hard to keep up and we seperated. The problem was that we didn't seperate on remotely bad terms. We were still very much in love with eachother. For many weeks afterwards we still basically treated eachother as though we were together. That eventually fizzled out as well. We both dated other people, although neither of us seemed to have an easy time with it. On top of that it just became very hard for us to find anything to say to eachother. It was just awkward... especially on her part. She made it quite a bit worse than it needed to be. It took me quite a while, even after all that, to realize that we're not getting back together and that was that. I always seemed to find things that could be read into as her wanting to try and get back together. I probably would have too, since I'm stupid like that. I wound up messing up another relationship because of all of it. I had a really strong attachment to her. Anyway, we're talking more again... although not lots. We get along like normal again, which is nice. I'm totally over it. Have been for a long time now. It's nice to move on, I guess heh.

Gaming Kingdom Hearts: is it the inspiration for Evanescence?
Semjaza replied to IloveBebop's topic in Noosphere
How exactly do you guys think it fits? I've never bothered to complete Kingdom Hearts. -
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel (not that I'm saying that's how everyone knows them... but I've sure heard an awful lot about them lately).
I had edited that into my posts well over an hour and half ago. I think it covers that lol. Honestly, I don't remember anyone ever talking about them. Now suddenly everyone and their brother likes them and I'm reading about them on all sorts of message boards. Like I said, I'm not complaining... but I figure that's the most likely explanation... wouldn't you? lol

There are a bunch of Trigun threads in here... but I didn't know where to put this, so I made my own. If another mod wants to do something with it, go ahead... I'm not above the rules lol. I'm of course going by the Adult Swim version. I know many people are going to complain that it's edited or some nonsense, but I don't think that affects the core of this show. That and I bet 95% of the people here who like it watch it on Cartoon Network anyway. Anyway, I saw Trigun several times now. Most recently last night. Why do people like this show? I seriously do not see much in it. The dub is simply awful. I don't know how anyone can put up with it. Vash sounds so incredibly out of place to me. His friends are really, really annoying. The art, while decent... is strange. There seems to be a lot of times when people's faces just look off from other times. These two things are of course personal opinion. However, even story wise... I'm not getting the point. Nothing ever seems to happen. All the dialogue seems ridiculously inane and stupid. Last night they had some weird looking guy with three teeth and some huge guy he referred to as his son. Excuse me for not remembering their equally weird names heh. Anyway, this guy was ridiculous. Who translates this stuff? It was terrible. Even if it was better written, I can't see it ever being the least bit interesting. On top of that it suffers from the same thing every dubbed anime seems to suffer from. Too much talking and overly long explanations. There are so many times in that show where better words could have been chosen that would have fit their lip movements better... and not have sounded so damn awkward. It seems like every anime I ever watch has some guy who randomly just tells his life story in a 10 second interval... The english voiceover just keeps talking and talking with no pauses. Huh? Anyway, I see that there are many people here who like this show. There are obviously tons more around it. You obviously should know what you like about it. What exactly am I missing here? It's possibly one of the most dull anime I've seen in years.

Gaming Kingdom Hearts: is it the inspiration for Evanescence?
Semjaza replied to IloveBebop's topic in Noosphere
Most bands have been around far longer than people realize. You think that they just put out one CD and magically become the biggest thing ever? Bands are usually together a good deal of time before they get anywhere. I'm not sure if they ever released anything under that band name before their big debut... but they've been playing together for years now. -
If you want to join any sort of club, you have to PM those involved with it. There's a PM button just like the one in my post at the bottom.

I guess Fountains of Wayne is the new big thing thanks to MTV's heavy rotation of their new video (not that I'm saying that's how everyone knows them... but I've sure heard an awful lot about them lately). Sure took everyone long enough heh. Can't say I'm upset about it though. Now everyone needs to get into Interpol and Junior Senior... then we'll be set.

Gaming Is anybody still addicted to Animal Crossing?
Semjaza replied to SS5 Gogeta's topic in Noosphere
Europe is supposedly getting Animal Crossing this October or something. Finally. I'd just wait, honestly. The Animal Crossing memory cards are exactly the same as any other card. The only difference is that they have a label and a present that takes up 1 block or so. You can easily delete that if you choose... However, it makes very little sense considering the game takes up the entire card with no room to spare anyway. However, the card is formatted with the US in mind. I'd assume you'll be using Freeloader, which I believe bypasses all that formatting for other regions stuff. You should have no problem with it. Japan already got the updated Animal Crossing. It's called E+ as Sniglefager said. Animal Crossing 2 isn't coming anytime soon. In fact, I don't even expect to see it on GameCube personally. -
Living in Chicago nearly all my life... I don't know how anyone who lives in this city can be racist. Everyday I see and interact with people of so many religions, cultures, races, sexual preferences and everything else. They're literally everywhere. If you are racist, I don't know why you'd ever live in this city. I went to a mostly hispanic/black high school my first three years, and a mostly white one my last year. I don't feel I acted any differently to anyone... Most of my friends have always been from so-called minorities anyway, not that that really means much. It's probably politcally correct and forced to most people when someone says "I don't see colors, I see people" or whatever else. In a large sense, I agree that it's a rather odd statement. I think everyone judges people on their looks in some form (even if they're the same race), but that's besides the point. Personally, I judge people on their actions... not on things as meaningless as that. It's not as if people choose their looks when they're born. It's never going to go away unless we all are assimilated into one culture and mixed to the point that the races are indistinguishable.

I've never really cried about anything since I was a child... and even then, I think it was just over stupid crap like candy. When my father was killed, a friend that was staying at our house told me. I just went in the bathroom and sat there because it just didn't seem real. I didn't cry. It wasn't in me. We went to the funeral, I still didn't cry. It was rather surreal. I don't remember what I was thinking totally (I was only like 8, almost 9), but it wasn't really an overwhelming sadness. It was a slight confusion, but with a strange amout of calmness. I still have no idea why. A lot of people I tell this to seem to think it's very strange. To this day, I've still yet to cry about it. It's not like I'm holding it back, or that I didn't love him. I did a great deal. It's just not there. I guess back then is when I figured out that death just happens and it's not something I can see mourning over. I still don't. Death isn't something I think about, nor is it something I am scared of. I don't react in the "normal" sense to it. So anyway, in summary... I've not either heh. At least not over something like that.

I don't think much of them anymore. I originally bought Dysfunction the week it came out. It was honestly a great album, albeit it overly depressing at points. However, I was in that stage of my life at the time. I wound up getting their debut, Tormented, as well. I think it's a better album mostly because of how unpolished it is by comparison. It adds an edge that Dysfunction lacks. I spent time trying to get people into Staind back then... when no one really seemed to give a crap. No one ever wanted to bother either, no matter what type of music they liked. Next thing I know, they're like the next big thing, which was rather frustrating. Then Break the Cycle a bit after came out and they more or less disappeared again (at least by comparison). I rarely see anyone talk about them anymore. I guess their newest CD didn't come out fast enough to appease the fad crowd. I never really bothered with Break the Cycle as I was tiring of that style of writing as well as the band itself. The CD offered nothing new. I never listened to 15 Shades of Gray (or whatever the hell it was). I can't say I care at this point anymore. Dysfunction and Tormented are still solid albums though.

I'm glad you checked them out. That one long song can be divided up rather well... but at the same time, if you ever just play them by themselves it sounds odd. I guess just because they have slight tie togethers like you said. Great Debate might not be the best example compared to others that slip my mind... but there is just some great playing on that song. The entire track is pretty solid, in my opinion. If you ever look for their other CDs... They have ones that are basically set up just like that. One 30 or 40 minute song that's split up into sections. It's all good really. I'll definitely have to check out X JAPAN. I'll wind up buying something of theirs if it's that comparable to Dream Theater (or just great by itself heh)... I can't stand the MP3 quality I get online. Thanks for the heads up.

The DVD is easy to find. I got mine at Blockbuster like the week it came out. Places like Best Buy always have it in stock. I'm really surprised to see people interested in this. In my general everyday life, I've yet to meet someone that even has heard of it. Sad world.

Writing Ultimates (Pseudo-Official Comics in General Thread!)
Semjaza replied to Semjaza's topic in Creative Works
Dogfish, yeah, I understand. No big deal. I don't like a good deal of comics people go on and on about. To each their own heh. I think you made a great choice on Sentinel though. Great comic so far. Deathbug - I see you're obviously liking Spectacular Spiderman. I was told it was terrible. I can't really say I was impressed by the little I read (or by the art), but maybe I should just check it out again. I find my comic taste changes randomly. Do you consider it as good as other Spider-Man runs currently? Or are you just getting it because it's Spider-Man? lol I still have yet to read my New X-Men issues. I read everything else. I finally found that Sentinel #1 and #2/Runaways #1 and #2 mixed book again. I went back to the same Borders, and there it was. Not in the greatest condition, but I just wanted to get it so I had the full story. It's quite a bit better than I remember... I didn't like either of those series at first. I'd love to get the real issues though... Especially Runaways. I really like the painted covers they do for them. Shy told me to try out 100 Bullets because of my interest in oldschool crime comic covers. I've wanted to buy this for quite some time, but always stopped myself. I see a paperback is coming out this coming Wednesday though, so I'll probably grab it. There's something from DC coming out called Human Target too. First issue. I have no idea what it is, but I might as well check it out at the store. Otherwise, just Runaways #5 for me. -
This game is less dramatic than any FF Square has put out in recent years, I think. I still think FFX was incredibly goofy. So by comparison, I can't really jump on the writing. It explains everything well in my opinion (you mainly have to read every last text area in the game). I also thought the references to CT, while a bit sudden, were decently done and made sense. I had no problem at the time. Personally, I thought this was the best game Square had put out in god knows how long. I prefer it to CT a great deal. Of course, this is opinion... and if people like CT more, I think it's very understandable. They're both great games lol.

I don't think much more has to be said. I know that other marriage thread has been on the main page for a bit, so just look around more before you make a new thread next time.

I've not heard that rumor. The only one I've heard is the one I've mentioned, with Ash. I've read that at dozens of places now, so it seems it's a rather decent sized one.
Neither of them really win at all anyway, I'd say. They both basically kill eachother and "win" in the battles like 10 times over. They just keep coming back, really. Unless you count Jason's body being more intact as winning lol.
I liked the movie. It did what it set out to do. I'm not sure what you meant by the water thing you made reference to, but it makes sense (even though they never really made use of it in other films to my knowledge -- haven't seen every one of them). My only gripe about that is when
the girl in the movie basically just says "what is the significance of fire and water!?" or some nonsense, basically for almost no reason at all. It's like the just stuck it in there at a really odd point in the film, and it was really unnecessary considering the film explains it again and makes even better, more subtle references to it later. There were some really cool scenes in the movie. My favorite scene in the trailer is when Freddy jumps out of Crystal Lake... but in the film it was slightly different. They gave it this red tint. I thought it was cooler in the trailer. I also don't remember seeing that "Place your bets!" thing in the film, but who knows at this point. Speaking of that, the acting on a whole was a bit off, it seemed. Some people were good, some were just bleh. I don't know what else I could expect, and I know a good deal of it can be attributed to some really odd writing... but eh. This is what I expected. I was glad to see Kelly Rowland die though.
