Writing Ultimates (Pseudo-Official Comics in General Thread!)
Semjaza replied to Semjaza's topic in Creative Works
Well did you read like... what? One issue of X-Statix? lol You're not really going to have any attachment to the characters at all unless you start from the beginning. That's really all this book is -- character development. Even when you start from the first issue, you really have to go back and read the last parts of X-Force as well. I wound up buying that the other day and it helps out greatly. In any case, you can't just jump into it randomly like with many other comics. Especially #11 which is already well into the swing of things. I'm sure many people still won't like it after all that, but in your case (unless you've read far more of them than you make it seem here) I think the decision is a bit premature. At the same time there are so many other comics to get, so no big deal lol. -
Head days? haha I think Dream Theater is a turn off to the current crop of people into this sort of music... mostly because they gravitate to nu-metal garbage (although there are some good ones in there too). When you play songs like Dream Theater's, most of which are well over six minutes long, people just don't want to bother. On top of this they make use of orchestration and all sorts of other stuff that kind of takes away from the "edge" it might have... but in my opinion just makes it so much better. That and there isn't much in the way of vocals in a good deal of the songs.... and they don't have screaming and all sorts of other stuff. Just not what people want right now, I guess. They're kind of like Tool in that sense. The fact that both bands can play such long songs, but you don't even realize it. The manages to stay fresh the whole way through and you just listen to it and enjoy it. Not many bands seem to be able to pull that off.

Welcome to the wonderful world of guys who will date your mom. I went through it after my dad died. I hated it at first, but I think it was mostly that I resented the guys. Once I realized they weren't really doing anything horrible, I laid back a lot more. Honestly, who doesn't keep some things at the house of people they date? I know many people who think that it's perfectly normal to just take whatever they want to eat too. Unless it's about 10 times worse than you're describing, I say you should step back and think about how bad any of this really is. It doesn't sound like he treats you badly. The whole computer aspect isn't really a big deal in the scheme of things either. As for how your mom acts like a kid around him... I don't know lol. All people act differently when dating someone. Some girls like being the kiddy, ditzy type in those situations for some reason.

This thread is causing me to roll my eyes so hard that I think they might fall out of their sockets.

Gaming Kingdom Hearts: is it the inspiration for Evanescence?
Semjaza replied to IloveBebop's topic in Noosphere
They've been around since the late 90s, so no. -
I realize this is old, but I really think more people need to get into this band. Their songwriting ability is amazing, and almost unparalleled by current bands of their type. People have to have more to say about these guys than just this. This is pathetic lol. Listen to the last several minutes of The Great Debate (it's a 13 minute song) and tell me that Petrucci isn't one of the best guitarists you've ever heard. You can't.

That Jewel ending in CT on Playstation isn't even in the SNES one. It has a few new endings, which I assume were created with CC in mind. Anyway, you don't even need to make use of a good deal of those characters in CC. The back story of most of the characters in CT could be completely summed up in about three sentences as it is. It's not as though they're all that much deeper. I feel that the more important ones in CC were explained plenty, while still giving you some other random characters to mess around with if you wished. Not all of them need to have a rich history of why they are willing to join your cause, in my opinion. There are about a dozen of them, at least, that are well explained and are most likely the ones you'll stick with anyway. The story in CC made perfect sense to me, honestly. I don't get the confusion. The story is good and fully realized. You just have to look for a lot of links and extra things the game doesn't throw right into your face.

Would be nice if we were allowed to vote for a wildcard person. There are people I'd like to vote for that weren't nominated at all. I don't even know much about half these people. I mean... no Sara? No amibasuki? No Tori? No RPcrazy? No Alex? No Zidargh? No Mitch? No whoever else I forgot? Craziness. I guess I'll go with Lady M, Jenna, Charles, Shy, treton noir and James then. wrist cutter is my number 7, even if he doesn't count. Someone I'd need to know better than I do, but he kicks *** obviously.

Of course they are going to say it's bad. These movies are meant to be cheesy and have dorky one liners. Critics in general want to look intelligent and so they pan these movies even if they do what they do well. I think it looks like a fun movie. I'm not going there to be impressed by an amazing script and plotline. In fact, I already know it's going to be just this side of B-movie horror and completely moronic... but it will be fun and it's like a fanboy's wet dream come true. It's obviously for the fans, and I for one want to see Freddy after so long. No other mainstream, long running horror villian has a personality like that. They're mostly just silent killers. It's a nice change of pace from the supposed "horror" we get lately. I'm tired of crap like Darkness Falls (the DVD had the people involved saying how sophisticated and intelligent it was... huh?) and Ghost Ship (Cool first 5 minutes, the rest sucked. What is with the industrial music?) and god knows what else that is simply horrible. In other news... There is talk of making a Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash film. That would be a dream come true. Anyone that likes Ash should be excited heh.
Bleh. You have no idea how horribly annoying that is. I love you dearly Semi, but hush up. In case some of you don't know, I live 40 min away from NYC, and that is WITH traffic. And so on.
That has absolutely nothing to do with my point. I don't feel I'm brushing off the significance of what happened whatsoever. In fact, I know I am not. I personally know plenty of people right there and some that were even in it, rather than simply close to it. It doesn't matter because that wasn't part of my post. The fact of the matter is that that incident has nothing to do with this blackout in any respect. Any damn thing I read about New York in terms of anything has to make a reference back to 9-11 for no apparent reason At least the paper quoted in this thread had a guy making a comparison between the two incidents, which is fine and good. I have no problem with that. I've read about 10 other articles on this, and almost all make the same statement for little or no reason other than just to say it. I was reading the Chicago Sun Times today and they practically had that same sentence word for word. "People in New York, which faced the brunt of the 9-11 attacks, tried to make their way home in the power outage without a fuss." Or something like that. Please tell me what relevence that has? It's ridiculous, and it seems like they try to feed it into every New York story so I can maybe feel more sympathetic about every other problem the state has (actually mostly just the city, because that's about all they mean when they say New York anyway). This even affected lower Canada, Ohio and Michigan, but apparently that doesn't matter anywhere near as much because New York got the most of an attack two years ago. Yes, it's a far more important area really, but it's still a strange sentence to just stick in there. It's like: "So, New York..." "Wait, which New York?" "The one that faced the brunt of the 9-11 attack." "Oh, that one. I thought you meant the other one." I might as well describe Chicago as the city that was almost eradicated by the Great Chicago Fire in an article about that heat wave that killed many, many people here. It's just as irreleveant to the topic. Again, I'm not downplaying the importance of what happened and I understand people aren't over it and everything else (how could they be?), but come on. It's stupid on the part of these newspaper journalists.

The second movie is one of the worst things I've ever seen. I might have found it funny if I was twelve, but at this point it was just too moronic for me to even laugh at its stupidity. The Scary Movie films are almost as bad as Scream ones. I hate that series.

I think I'm far smarter now... the thing is that I no longer care. When I was younger, I just had a different opinion of the world and school in general. I wanted to try and do well and everything else. At this point I feel like I'm just going through the motions. I've become jaded and tired of the whole machine I'm stuck in. Doesn't mean I don't get good grades, just means I'm not as great academically as I used to be. A 3.6 GPA isn't too bad for someone who kind of just wanders around aimlessly lol.

Why did you choose your screen name?
Semjaza replied to EdtheHackerGirl's topic in General Discussion
Hmm. You know I figured it had something to do with amibas and a Japanese name... like those cell creature things. Whatever lol. My name is based off an angel... although it seems like it may have been two seperate angels that somehow got mixed together in translations. Long story. Tired of telling it. -
Ah. Hmm. I've always had a rather heavy interest in the Manson killings. How big of a role he even had, if any... and so on. He's obviously indirectly involved, in any case. He didn't personally kill anyone there though. It kind of stemmed from the fact that the anniversary of the Shannon Tate killings is on my birthday (she was killed August 9th, 1969). Interesting fact about him... Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys picked up some of Manson's "Family" as hitchhikers. They introduced him to Charles himself, and they wound up all living together for quite some time. Charles Manson is an uncredited writer on one of the Beach Boys' albums for Never Learn Not to Love. I've never bothered to listen to it, although I've heard some of the stuff he has written since then. Sick City isn't a bad song lol. Otherwise, Gein is one of the ones that sticks into my memory. I have no particular fondness for any movie created killer, honestly. Dr. Satan and his assistant from House of 1,000 Corpses are pretty cool creations. Some of the better designs in any recent movie.

I'm not sure what you're going for... Real life killers such as Fish, Lucas, Gacy? Or do you mean characters in movies that are real people rather than some bizarre monster or person brought back from hell with various weapon attachments? lol

Well, I don't know why this would be closed. It doesn't have anything bad in it in any respect. It's one thing to disagree and think people are closed minded... it's another to post flame-bait and come up with horrible points. So I see nothing wrong with this. For the most part I have to agree. I rarely see any threads in here spammed up with stuff like "OMG Goku rules!!!!"... at least not to a large extent. It depends on the thread. The majority of them seem to be on fairly big anime series, although the people in the threads seem to convince themselves otherwise. The ones about the smaller, more obscure titles seem to stay small and attract some decent members on average. I don't know. To be very honest, I think most anime is terrible. I've been watching the stuff since I was a small child (I'm 21 now), and I don't know how anyone can disagree with this opinion. It's like anything else, most of it just sucks. I know there would be people who would fight that to the death here though. The problem really is, in my opinion, that most of the people who do post here only have access to things like FOX and Cartoon Network. For many people, the smaller anime titles are nearly impossible to get. Until recently, even in a city as large as Chicago here, you could never rent anime videos or DVDs. Some places still don't carry any, you have to get lucky. The stuff is expensive to buy on its own, unless you go the Hong Kong bootleg route... which would require a credit card, and most likely a parent anyway. Personally, I refuse to buy bootleg anime. It doesn't help anything, but that's another topic for another day. So in that sense, you have to be a bit more understanding because of those aspects. So of course, a majority of topics will be about them. It's just the way things are, and very little can change that. I find this place very strange in some ways though. I mean, as I said earlier, I'm not exactly fond of most anime at all. I think it's overrated and many of the shows people go on about here are utter trash in my opinion, and barely better than the Western cartoons so many of the same people seem to despise. But, back to the point of this paragraph.... despite me hating so much of it, I think it's simply bizarre that I seem to know many more obscure and smaller titles (localized or not) that so many here seemingly have never heard of. It's almost pathetic in a sense... but like I said, I try to keep in mind how much access people have to this stuff. Really, I don't think the mods or whatever starting new topics on such anime would help. I don't think this site at this time is really built for total anime enthusiasts who spend hours a day downloading Hale Nochi Guu, Kiddie Grade or whatever else (and that was months ago, there is new stuff making the rounds now that I've yet to bother with). It has the whole Cartoon Network crowd in mind, as is obvious if you look on theotaku.com I've started threads on smaller anime in the past, or at least contributed to them. If people don't have access to this stuff, I can talk about it as much as I want... nothing can come of it. If I made a Hale Nochi Guu thread, what can I do? Tell people to go illegally download bootleg anime fansubs? Tell them to spend hundreds on Japanese language DVDs they can't afford or understand? A former member, Kevin, even tried to do such things... Telling people to check out such and such an anime and then we'd all have a conversation. No one was ever able to do it. I don't exactly have the money or desire to run out and buy random anime, personally. Who knows about other people's excuses. So yeah, for the millionth time so far (lol), I think you need to keep that in mind. There is very little that can be done about it. However, even in the localized sense... it can be very disheartening. I don't know how many times there is going to be a thread about Akira or Princess Mononoke or god knows what other anime that everyone and their mother already knows about. I have no agenda with this. I don't care if anime is small or big, or whatever else. Really, the bigger the better. If DBZ and whatever else do well, that can only mean good things for other anime. It will have a much higher chance of being picked up. I don't know how long everyone has been around... but anime since the popularizing of DBZ and all that CN stuff has become much easier to find and available in far greater amounts. I hardly think it is a bad thing. Of course, then you have the problems that lead to threads like this because of it. I guess it's a double-edged sword in that sense. There was talks about seperating Anime Lounge in the future for Version 7 of OB into a older orientated section and a younger orientated section. I think that might be the best course of action with this.

I don't recommend that if you're on a slower modem. She has an entire MP3 load up for her background music. You could be quick about it and just click the HTML help thing at the top of the page though heh.

There isn't a SNES Resident Evil... plus the SNES is 16bit. Maybe you're talking about the original Playstation game (or perhaps Sweet Home on the Famicom/some emulator)... but yeah. So is Clock Tower, but no big deal. Might as well keep this in Nintendo since it's still the busiest area.

http://liftoff.msfc.nasa.gov/news/2001/news-moonlanding.asp I think this is worth reading. It explains most everything brought up here in very simple terms. The same stuff has already been said here for the most part, but maybe people will actually read it because it has pretty pictures!! Plus there are far more links on the subject there. It's strange how every hoax site harps on the same damn points over and over... while the sites thinking it is real have so many more tangible facts. You can disprove half the hoax ideas that go around near instantly it seems.

The whole 10% of your brain is a totally misunderstood myth, that at this point is mostly upheld by psychics to try and explain their "powers". Somehow the remaining is peoples' full potential in their 90% subconscious mind. Whatever. It doesn't help that so many things uphold this myth and don't even realize it. It's become like common sense to people thanks to television and everything else. It's simply not true. I pity anyone here using only 10% of their brain power lol.

From a previous thread:
Originally posted by Charles Gosh, you know, I hate to be a stickler here, but I see little in the way of actual discussion emerging from this thread. I know that you've created a fun little topic here, but let's stick to discussing something that's not quite this pointless.
Was the September 11th descriptor at the beginning of the article really necessary? What the hell does that have to do with anything? Of course their first quote is based off that too. I feel like everything I read or hear about New York has to make reference to it. As if anyone left in this country doesn't know about it.

It's a very good game marred by a few rather noticable problems. The biggest problem is the outright horrible translation. Most of the time it's ridiculous, but at least understandable. There are times where it seriously makes absolutely no sense no matter how you try to read it. The battle system is very deep for a few reasons. You have different types of weapons first of all... short range and long range. These make a difference on their own, but it's also combined with the fact that you can only move so far per turn (at least from what I remember). The second problem is its difficulty. It's just overly hard at times. The game expects you to spend insane amounts of time leveling up later in the game, because I honestly don't see how you'd ever defeat some of those bosses otherwise. I loved all the customization in the game. There is an insane amount of it... from weapons and items you make, to your robot's entire status. The game is awesome in this aspect. It's also just so goofy. It's got a really Japanese style to it. Hackers, a human crab that likes to sit in a steam room and so on. It's really bizarre. Plus I really liked the music. Especially in Roccoco. The violin playing is still one of the best samples on any SNES game. I own the original cartridge. I bought it for SNES randomly years and years ago when the game was still actually new. I've not played it in years though.
