1. This might be something in the works already, I don't know. However, to tie OB and theOtaku together a bit more, I think it would be a good idea. It relates to this idea. As you know, you need to have seperate accounts on both OB and the Otaku. I'm sure many people have totally different names. I think it would be a good idea to add a field to people's profiles in v7 that links directly to their MyOtaku page... and vice versa. So then ideas like the playlist being at MyOtaku and whatever else would work a bit better, I think.
2.
Originally posted by SilpheedPilot Short form of post...
So what is your name then? lol I don't really ever thing "wow, that's a nice name." Names never really mean all that much to me, and I tend to forget most people's as it is. I'm not good with them. I'm good with faces. In any case... I don't have a favorite boy name. Personally, I think my name is rather strange. "Tony" just looks bizarre to me, and it's weird to say it. I like a couple girl names though. Colleen is the first one. I dated a girl with this name, but I've always really liked it anyway. The other is Artemis. It sounds odd, but I came across a girl named this a couple years back. After I heard it said a few times, it actually grew on me. I assume she is named after the Goddess of the Hunt of the same name. I think it's a beautiful name, personally. I'd probably name my kid one of those two, assuming she is a girl... and assuming I have one. Guido Burrito is always good too.

Mainstream is an odd way to describe any genre of music in its entirety. The only thing that's mainstream is the crap that is super radio friendly, and the lesser stuff that strives to be just like it. There's plenty of more underground or indie rock around... whether it's metal, industrial, punk or just hard rock in general. Plus, there's always bands around that are just well ahead of the curve or do their stuff so well that you can't ignore it. Popular or otherwise. Personally, I can't say I prefer any decade over another... or think any set time span is when rock was at its peak. There's too much going on now for me to live on nostalgia. I guess it just depends where you look.

Glad I could help lol. I forgot one more. Twiggy, the bass player from Manson (he's now with A Perfect Circle... along with James Iha of the Smashing Pumpkins heh) did a cover of I Only Want to Be With You. The cool thing about that is the person who sings it is the model Twiggy, who he was named after. His real name is Jeordie White, but when the band was in its early years, they all took the first names of female celebrities and the last names of serial killers. Anyway, I think it's on the Dead Man on Campus soundtrack... along with another Manson cover of Bowie's Golden Years. I Only Want to Be With You is really cool, because it adds this modern rock quality to an older rock song. I wish more songs were made like that.
5. What exactly is it you want to know? I don't really think it's all that complicated, unless you have no idea what Boogiepop's role is.

Cover Songs

It's a New Order cover. I think. There's a million good cover songs. NIN's Physical, which is a cover of an Adam Ant song. Closest thing there was to sex in a music format for quite a while heh. They also did a great cover of Queen's Get Down Make Love, Gary Numan's Metal and Pigface's Suck. Marilyn Manson has quite a few good covers as well. Aside from the obvious Sweet Dreams from the Eurythmics. They also covered AC/DC's Highway to Hell, Soft Cells' Tainted Love, The Doors' Five to One (great song), Gary Numan's Down in the Park, Screamin' Jay Hawkins' I Put a Spell on You, Lennon's Working Class Hero and so on. There's actually quite a few, but most are B-sides and not available on the actual LPs. Other than that...The Tea Party's cover of Rolling Stones' Paint It Black, Apocalypse Hoboken's cover of Darling Nikki (originally by Prince... it's in Purple Rain), Bowie's cover of the Pixies' Cactus and A Perfect Circle's awesome, awesome live cover of Bowie's Ashes to Ashes all come to mind. I particularly love Ashes to Ashes. Great song by Bowie and a great cover. I prefer covers that really change the dynamic of a song... but it's also nice to hear a band's influence or skill reflected in something that isn't their's, even if they just barely change the basics of it.
7. More story contests...? Geh. It seems like that's all anything ever involves here lol.
8. The only graphic novel manga I've read at this point is Lone Wolf and Cub... if that's even considered one. Ranma 1/2 too, actually... but that's just a collection of issues. I have Dark Knight Returns, Black Orchid, Grendel Tales and so on. The others I read are random American comics and stuff like Akira and Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed... but again, these are just collections of issues stuffed into a book. They didn't start as graphic novels.
9. I already said that about the stupid *** "crush" thread too. It must be beaten into the collective conciousness a few more times, I think.
10. Why are people naming all three 3D Zeldas as their favorites? They're are ONLY three in the first place!! lol Whatever though.
Originally posted by GinnyLyn Majora's Mask was...well, I felt it was a slide back to the kiddy nature of the earlier days. You spent all your time as Kid Link, for one. The search for the masks, for another. The transformation masks were keen, and finding all of them was a complete pain in the arse (so were some of the puzzles)..
I can understand not liking the transformation and time problems...but saying this was a slide back to the kiddy nature? What exactly does that mean? The only thing you've said to support that is you playing as child Link. Link doesn't even talk as it is, he is what you make him. It doesn't really affect the story, especially considering Majora has one of the better ones in the series. To just have a problem because it's a child Link seems really odd to me. Majora is still the darkest game in the series, and in my opinion, the best. I don't understand the general dislike for it.
11. My Other Car is a Millenium Falcon... given to him by a Harrison Ford lookalike lol. In the episode where Homer is admitted into an Insane Asylum, he meets a guy who thinks he is Micheal Jackson. What is his real name?
12. I don't know where people hear these FF7 rumors. Sounds like another thing pulled out of someone's ***. The specs for the PSP basically make it sound like it will be just below the Dreamcast in graphics quality. Of course, it's on such a small screen by comparison, so that will knock it down some. However, the thing has wireless LAN, and PDA capabilites and so many other things stuck into it. I really can't see how this thing would be inexpensive... and as such, I don't know if it is directly going after the GBA or gaming PDAs in general. Plus the software is currently priced at $45 to $50 according to Sony. Any pics of the PSP are fake. As for the PSX, we had a thread on the thing. It's just a highend multimedia device. It's not something normal users would ever need. Sony plans on pricing it "dramatically" to see how well it can do... I assume to see what people would like in PS3 and what they wouldn't. Before some idiot tells me PS3 is designed and complete, like in the other thread, I'll just say it's not.
13. See, there are many games that have nothing to do with killing anything. There are tons of puzzle games... Mr. Driller, Tetris, Panel De Pon, Bombastic, Columns, Puyo Puyo, Bomberman... Then lots of music games like DDR, Frequency, Mad Maestro, Gitaroo Man and Samba de Amigo. That's not even including most of the other genres that are totally non-violent. As for the violence, I don't know. My brothers were just as interested in such things before they cared about games. Human beings are just interested in violence and the macabre in general. I remember watching some thing on America's Most Wanted. They were playing Goldeneye to prove that videogame violence isn't anything like real violence or something. Whenever someone would get killed, blood would roll down their part of the screen. There was always this kid that would get so excited over seeing the blood, it was weird. I don't know anyone like that. Violence is just part of some games and I admit it is enjoyable. It's enjoyable because I personally seperate fantasy from reality and know I can't normally do such things. I can't race cars, I can't fly planes, I can't massacre aliens. I guess it just depends. It's this same excuse with everything though. Before games it was recorded music. Before that it was books. Same story each time. I think there is an influence, but I think parents actually getting involved and figuring out what their kids are doing would solve almost all of it. Oh well. I know my family and I know the difference, I can't speak for other kids who act oddly because of videogames lol. Besides, just because you play games doesn't mean that's all you do. I already explained the in-person social component, versus the online one. I don't consider online social or personal whatsoever, honestly.
14. I'm in love with Shampoo. It's rather sad. I made some girls I know watch the show and they didn't get it. Now they just tease me about Shampoo heh. I have more Ranma posters than any others up in my room... plus like 6 others I never put up heh. I love the manga and the series.
15. I can't really put any faith in the opinions of people who can't even spell basic words correctly anyway. Let me think... should I listen to the person who states their points well? Or maybe I should listen to the people in here who say stuff that only drunks could understand? Choices.
16. I assume you mean the Spider Ball. Have you gotten to play Metroid II yet? I finally found my cart. What is the role of Ness's father in Earthbound? He does two important things in the game, name one at least.
17. Pizza Hut is vomit enducing as it is. Maybe I'm lucky since I live in Chicago, where we have better pizza places than that every 5 blocks. I feel sorry for those that live in a town where Pizza Hut or Dominos are considered good pizza. There was once a spring in some tempura shrimp I had at one of those Japanese grill places in Las Vegas. They tried to tell me it was part of a chopstick. Okay... Spring-loaded chopsticks?
18. Another good analogy is that you don't buy a cow when you can get the milk for free. These really apply to every day situations. If I was a girl being compared to a cow or a horse, I sure know I'd be flattered. Maybe even a test run for a new car. Quite charming. New car smell.
19. I don't know how you cannot see a person. The left white line is the back of his head. The middle white line is the facial features and neck. The water is neat. You can kind of make out a guy diving in it if you imagine enough heh.
20. I'm moving this to Nintendo, as it's the most busy games section. I'm sure someone else will move it if I don't... I don't think you've played many complex games if you think that they are all that moronic lol. Games make you Dumb: They do, mostly because people avoid stuff that actually matters such as school work. Also, visit a game-centric board and tell me it's not moronic most of the time. Games isolate you: I'd say so. I know people who tell me they can't go out because they want to finish a game. I suppose this is no different than wanting to see a show or read a book though. Games addict you: Same as anything else. Games mess up your body: This is mostly in relation to lack of physical activity and horrible sleep patterns. Games can be a major factor. Games cause violence: Long thing to talk about, they don't cause anything. I've been playing games since I was like 4 years old and I'm not shooting people or hurting others. Games make you smart/l Games can be directly attributed to better hand and eye control, not that that makes you smart. They obviously can help your problem solving skills, as well as your reading comprehension. Depends on what you play. Games improve your litercay: It's literacy. And yes, I strongly agree with this. I've been playing RPGs since the mid-80s. I really do think that Dragon Warrior, among other games, can be directly attributed to my reading and writing skills. I would be nowhere near my current level without those things. I also should add that there isn't simply "two pages". They don't all have moronic storylines. Many are more complex than some books I've read. Some games actually have well over a thousand pages of pure text for you to read. Games are social: Saying that only online games are social seems really mis-informed to me. There are so many games right now that allow four people to get together and have a good time. I can't tell you how many people have parties and such where games are factored in because of their competition and fun aspects. Games relieve stress: EVERYONE has stress. It doesn't matter how old you are. Doing something to get your mind off those things relieves stress. Just like reading or writing or drawing or going to the beach or anything else. Games heal the body: This is directly tied into the stress thing, and I think it's rather useless as a point. -------------------------- No, there isn't currently an Enix building. They closed their US HQ up, and I'm not sure what part they'll have... I'd assume the local Square chapter will just take care of it all.
21. What I love about Otaku Lounge is all the threads that really make you think.
22. Theotaku.com is down right now. It should be up when the DNS settings are switched around. That's something that always takes a couple days, and no one can really control it. I'm not sure why you can't see the banner, but I'm not sure where some of the banners for the other skins are hosted. I'm on Liquid.
23. That tablet looks decent, but it's hard to judge since they don't list a resolution... Most likely worth $50 though heh. I'd still go with a Wacom, but that's me. This is the one I personally want, although it's pricey by comparison... http://wacomdirect.wacom.com/wacomdirect/product.asp?dept%5Fid=100&sku=XD912USBPLAT
24. This is a rather vague question. I wouldn't have even remembered which was the 200th if it wasn't for the big deal surrounding them reaching the 200th episode mark. The episode is Trash of the Titans. It's the one where Homer becomes the guy in charge of the Sanitation Department in town after insulting the garbagemen. Who fills in for Krusty on his kids show when he gives up on himself and winds up becoming a "tell it like it is" comic? It's the episode with Jay Leno and the Canyonero.
25. That doesn't make Tria look good at all, in my opinion lol. It looks like a MS Paint mess lol. I can see where they'd be useful though, as the color coverage is pretty damn thorough. You have to remember that Primsacolors are pressure sensitive. The harder/longer you press them down, the more ink will come out. You have to almost work with them as if they were watercolors as well. This makes it look as though the Trias have two ends like the Prismacolors. Apparently they just used the fat end on the Prismacolors. Prisma colors have a thin end and a fat end. The fat end has a few different angles to it so you can make varying line widths. If you don't know how to do good strokes or you just splotch down some scribble like in the image you just showed, it's not going to look good. There's no reason that it would look like that if you took your time and did a nice job. There are ways to avoid over lapping lines, and it seems like the paper used in this example wasn't the best either. The paper I use doesn't absorb the ink in a way that you see some horrible paper texture lol. They take a lot of work to get used to because of that, I think. I'm still not used to it. If you see someone good with them though, they can get excellent results near instantly... and they don't look like what you are showing here heh. In the case of that Tria... it looks like nothing but a huge splotch of ink. Sure, it's more vivid, but there is no differentiation at all. I can't see what it proves, because it doesn't look like whoever did this tried to use a good example... They just filled in color haphazardly to see which colors more evenly. I can't really give a good opinion on it because of this. I find it very strange that the written "tria" part looks so bleh compared to the written "prisma" part. You really just can't treat Prismacolors as normal markers. You won't get anywhere doing that. The same goes for Copics and Pantones. Sure, they'll work just fine... but you can't expect professional looking results. In any case, I'm going to be buying a tablet as well. You can get decent ones for around $100... (Wacom for example) which is about what you'd be spending on markers when you get down to it. It's probably a better investment. There are some of programs that simulate paint and markers as well. You have Photoshop of course... but for this sort of stuff I think you should look into Painter. It's complex, but worth the time.
