1. The other Mario is Shadow Mario
who is really Baby Bowser in disguise. He wants to kidnap Princess Peach because Bowser told him that she was his mom heh.
Hmm. In Super Mario Bros 3, what are the names of at least five of the Koopa Kids?
2. Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2 (aka Super Mario USA in Japan), Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels (aka Super Mario Bros 2 in Japan). Super Mario World was later added to the set and used as a pack-in game later in the SNES's life. In Earthbound, what is the name of Pokey's brother? (very easy one heh)
3. No, I've not met someone who can read what amounts to a page and half of text, actually comprehend it (which is the key word here) and address its points. I've still yet to see that. I live in Chicago, which is also a city. I've seen these things, and I know what both of you are referring to. It seems like you in particular are trying to create some sort of war out of it where you and Harry are the saviors of the Otaku people, because we are all somehow locked in a Happy carefree world where we're all depressed anyway (how does that make sense?)... And anyone that thinks that perhaps that isn't the best way (and is based on things that I'm finding neither of you probably truly understand all the facts behind) is absolutely wrong. Eh, whatever. I'm not here to change your mind. It's my opinion. If you think it sucks, so be it.
4. The fact that you read and comprehended all that and also posted in less than three minutes is amazing. People are discussing and appreciating other's opinions and basically all that has been said back is "So what." That's all it amounts to. I'm not understanding how you find people not appreciating other's opinons disgusting, when I'm finding that you are basically doing the same. Harry posts controversial things, we all know this. Of course you're going to get many sides and of course people are going to fight against the ones they don't agree with... especially in the case of Harry who is rather extreme with his wording at times. I don't think anyone is like "WTF! MY opinion is fact and YOURS is wrong." I disagreed and I said why, that doesn't mean it had to resort to this. And thus, my main point: You can't expect people to agree when there is basically nothing to back up your claims except that somehow your schools are overrun with junkies and ebonics classes. And like I said, I know the responses will be like I figured at the end of my second post. It's certainly how they've been so far. I have no personal problem with either you or Harry, so I'm not even trying to get into anything like that. Discussion is discussion, and I respect both of your views despite my generally not agreeing with them in this thread (I honestly haven't bothered with the other ones Harry made, so it's not as if I have some agenda against either of you).
5. I'm not ignoring anything... I just find it hilarious how everyone here seems to think they know so much about things they obviously never really think about. Have fun with your blame games. And like I said, I wasn't even referring to your post to begin with. Read over what Harry said and tell me it's not slanted against blacks. Please. Edit - As for the censor, perhaps the very schooling system people are fighting against in here could have taught you some better words to use :p. And in repsonse to your post below mine... There is no "so." None of my original comments were even directed towards what you said. I get your point about "It's all races," which is all well and good. Harry's original posts put blacks at the forefront of it, regardless of what you've said since then (especially since yours were obviously skewed in the same direction at first). I'm not even going to bother with this anymore. I'm not going to argue with someone over education that cannot even spell simple words properly and has to result to swearing to get their points across.
6.
Originally posted by Jenni Far better than all the depression threads you guys are pulling. Nothing wrong with using stereotypes, they are used everyday, so don't pull that one either. It's so old and just retarded. I'm not saying everyone isn't willing to learn. I'm talking about the drugged up mindless idiots who waste the teachers time. Those kids don't deserve it. And multiplacation in high school? Try reading the whole post honey
Again, another stereotype. I don't even post in the depression style threads, let alone created my own. Stop throwing people into groups. Stereotypes might be used all the time, but what in the world does that have to do with anything? Claiming that things should be changed this radically because a minority that is more vocal is screwing up the way you think things should be? Besides, I wasn't even referring to your post as it was. And honestly, no one sees anything racist about the first post? It seems clear to me by the way that Harry worded this that he obviously sees blacks as the problem, not kids in general. If that isn't what he meant, then perhaps people should go back to school and figure out how to write well and get their points across correctly without resorting to overly negative comments that are obviously designed only to get a rise out of people for attention. I honestly get the sense that he's some elitist bigot who sits around his house judging the world. If this is true or not, of course I don't know... But that's the impression that I know a lot of people are getting. I don't even care for a response to this. I know it's going to result in nothing but converstational terrorism where people are going to use stupid sleight of mind fallacies, delay tactics, ad hominem variants and everything else to make themselves correct and anyone that defies them wrong.
7. Goddamn, there are a lot of stereotypes in this thread.
8. I'm not sure that many people here would know much about Adam Ant, but maybe I'll be surprised heh. I like Adam Ant... Mostly for a few particular songs, Physical mainly (which was covered by NIN of course), and also Beat My Guest. I was never a huge fan, and I doubt I ever will be. He used to be played every so often on an alternative station here in Chicago called Q101, but I've not listened to the radio in so long that I doubt he's ever on it anymore heh. Maybe the late night "classic alternative" stuff they play...
9. You guys need to get some new games heh. I don't know what my average times on RPGs are. Usually, when I beat the game I never play it again. There generally is little reason to, and by the time I finish one RPG another good one has come out... so I move on to that. I've been playing RPGs since I was like 7 years old, when Nintendo Power gave away a free copy of Dragon Warrior with a subscription. I have no idea how long I spent on that game, but I must have restarted it like 20 times (I'd get far, not play for a while and forget what to do next, so I'd restart heh). NES games never had time clocks. So let's see... I can make a little chart about how much I've played these games if I can guess. Dragon Warrior - I'd say total about 30 hours. Dragon Warrior II - 12 or so hours, I hated this game. Dragon Warrior III - Around 50 hours if I count NES and GBC. Dragon Warrior IV - About 30 hours. Dragon Warrior VII - I'm not even close to done, but I'm about 30 hours in. Skies of Arcadia - Total spent on the GC and DC versions is about 45 hours now. Persona - I'd say about 25 hours. Persona 2 - Not beaten it yet, but about 20 hours. Earthbound - I'd say the first time through was about 15 hours, but I've played through the game like 5 times.... So what's that? 75 hours? heh Final Fantasy - About 15 hours. FF2 - About 2... Not into emulation. FF3 - About 1... Again, not into emulation FF4 - I've played it twice, and the game takes about 14 hours to get through the first time. So I guess 30 hours. FF5 - About 5 hours. The PSX loading drove me nuts. FF6 - I played through it twice. First time took 60 hours, second time took about 26. So about 90 hours (the winner so far heh). Secret of Mana - About 12 hours. Secret of Evermore - About 16 hours. Star Ocean 2 - No idea. I'd say at least 30. SaGa Frontier - 3 hours. It sucked. Xenogears - First time through was 70 hours. I don't remember if I played it again. Valkyrie Profile - I've only played this about 10 hours. Suikoden - About 15 hours. Suikoden III - I think like 13 hours so far. Lunar/Lunar 2 - About 25 hours total. Arc the Lad Collection - About 10 hours. I got rather bored with it. That's all I can think of. It's amazing I'm not fat and disgusting heh.
10. It's absolutely nothing like Kingdom Hearts. I wouldn't call it an amazing RPG, as it's rather average... It's certainly better than most RPGs on PS2 right now though, and a nice diversion. The main problem with the game is the graphics. I know graphics aren't everything, but when a game looks like a high resolution PSX game it's not a good thing. Some of the backgrounds and lighting effects are really well done, but the monsters simply suck for the most part. There are some interesting designs, but most of them are covered in absolutely horrible textures that really detract from the game overall. The gameplay is somewhat standard stuff, although there is this little spinning meter that determines what sort of attack you make. You have to press it at the right time to get a good hit... Otherwise you get a normal hit or a miss. This is used for a lot of things in the game, such as when you try to get something to work. It's kind of odd, but makes fights a little less boring. I'd pay about $20 or so for it... I wouldn't pay $50 (which is what I paid).

Clone High

I've read the article twice, and despite the reference to South Park I hardly think it's an important comparision for the article. You make it sound as if the show is being attacked or something.

Clone High

I finally found an image on it today. The Portrait reference is priceless :D
13. It's your site. I say do as you like. I honestly never liked the word Otaku and its connotations, but that's me. What do you mean by anime relatated? If it's something like AnimeWarehouse (that's a better one heh) or some weird fansite-ish type name, I think you should stick with theOtaku heh. As for your concerns... theotaku.com is one of the easier URLs to remember. I don't think that's something you need to worry about. It also does bring a whole anime/manga impression along with it, regardless of my opinion on the word itself. You're probably best off just keeping it how it is and not confusing the people that currently visit.
14. I don't know if a hack could change this or not, but it simply isn't possible to have more than one attachment. I'm not sure what people here think about multiple posts to show all your attachments, but I've seen it done in the Art forum before and no one complained. The only other option would be to go into a image program and putting all your pics together into one and putting that as the attachment. I'd have to say that if you need to show a lot, you probably should be finding your own hosting through some other site lol.
15. I suppose I should post some impressions of it before I finish my stupid paper that I keep starting and stopping all day........ First of all, the packaging. In Japan, the game came in a crappy little paper sleeve. Everywhere else, it comes in a standard GC case. The boxart is nothing special, but it gets the job done. It comes with a decent sized manual (which is printed in a monotone-ish brown/orange color... not bad looking) and a nice preview book for Wind Waker. It has lots of nice screens and stuff about the new characters. When you boot the disc up, you get a screen with OoT and Master's Quest. Pressing Z lets you see some DVD perfect videos of Wind Waker, 1080, F-Zero, Wario World and some other stuff. All the while a nice rendition of a Zelda song is played. I beat OoT twice, so I skipped it and went straight to the Master Quest version. It brings you to a loading screen, and after about 10 seconds the game starts. This is the only loading you'll ever deal with on the disc. The first thing you'll notice is that the game runs at a much higher resolution than on N64 (think the difference between Turok 2 with and without the expansion, or even playing the game on an emulator on PC). Because of this, and GC's much better antialiasing capabilities the image is very sharp and the lines are very clean. In a sense this is a double edged sword because sprites in the game simply look awful most of the time. The title screen logo is obviously stretched and looks pixelated. The Hyrule town backgrounds (which were bad enough on N64) are about 10 times worse now. They are horribly blurry and since the characters are so much clearer and sharper, the backgrounds just look that much worse. Thankfully, the font wasn't affected by any of this and still looks clean. Controls... Well they are obviously changed. L takes the place of Z targeting and it works well enough. It took me a while to get used to this though, because I kept feeling like I was playing N64 and was confusing myself heh. The C-stick takes the place of the C-buttons. You can use X, Y and Z for the C-Buttons instead though (although C-Up is always on the stick). The game is basically emulated/ported perfectly. There is only one problem with the port, which is when you press start to go to the menus. There is a slight pause, which after awhile gets rather annoying. Many people have mentioned the fact that you must change boots in the Water Temple near constantly... Which will suck. I don't know why that's a problem, as the entire game seems to be in the GC's RAM. I've noticed emulators also pause when they get try to access the game's menus (the blur part seems to be what gets it stuck), so maybe it just cannot be emulated well. Other than that, the framerate is improved. Hyrule Field no longer stutters along and runs perfectly. It seems to be locked at 30 FPS now. As for the Master Quest differences... Everything is the same except the dungeons. Many puzzles are changes and things have to be done totally different ways. There are far more enemies, they seem to be smarter... and most take more hits to kill. The Deku Tree is almost totally overrun with Gohma Larvae, which in OoT barely even make an appearance. Anyway, for something that's free... this is very kickass. I encourage everyone to preorder so they can grab a copy. You can just go to Best Buy and grab this from the games section. You pay $15 now, and then when WW comes out you show them the receipt and pay the remaining $35.
16. There is also a Playstation version of it, which is most likely the one he has.

Xenogears

Well I didn't mean fighting against a higher power itself was original and had never been done... I meant the thing that was their "god" wasn't a god in a traditional sense. It's kind of hard to explain without ruining most of what the story is trying to get across. Most of the story revolves around what their god actually is in the first place, and whether or not it really exists. Xenosaga is just as relgion-centric as Xenogears was. I don't know if it attacks it as much as Xenogears did, but it's still based on the idea. There was actually a sexual molestation scene removed from the US version of Xenosaga, which I won't get into here unless someone is interested. I'm not sure if you'd want to bother with Saga either heh.

Xenogears

I had a decent time playing the game. I liked how the fights were done, although people seem to bash that a lot. I also wish more RPGs had mech fights incorporated into them. It's also one of the first RPGs I remember playing where cities seemed like actual cities, and were large and had a lot to them... Not like it was in 8/16-bit days when there were maybe a few houses in each town. I'm not a very religious person, but I know a decent amount about religions... There are a LOT of references to things from older aspects of a few major religions, as well as religions that are basically dead now. The thing is that the aspects and ideas are used completely wrong and thrown around so much that the whole story just comes of pretentious. It really comes off like it was written by a kid who hates religion for some selfish reason, who tried to write a story about it while trying to stuff in anime characters. It also takes itself just far too seriously, and seems to assume that if you know nothing about what the things it is referring to it actually are, you'll just go along with it and assume it's genius writing. Seriously, how many of you even know what Zeboim even is? Sure, it didn't have a huge role in the story... But that's just one example (I'm surprised they didn't use Sodom, but maybe that would have been too obvious). It's like every last small thing in the Bible was applied to something that happened in this game. It reminds me of a comic I was working on when I was 13. As for the story itself... I thought it was really all over the place. In the end it really is the characters fighting against their "god," although that god is not what most people would expect. It certainly isn't traditional lol. Oh well, that's my thoughts on it. I don't hate the game. Infact, I used to think it was the greatest thing. By comparison to other games, and knowing what I know now about the subject matter... I basically changed my opinion of it. I do plan on playing Xenosaga eventually as well. It's being done by Monolith, which is made up of some of the Xenogears team. The games aren't officially related though. They have simliar themes and character designs... but apparently Xenogears was part 5 of it's own series and Xenosaga is part 1 of it's own. They aren't directly related.
19. If people want to pay for what is essentially nothing but online Flash games with pretty graphics... That's their problem. The game doesn't even do the volleyball well. This is probably what I found so pathetic about it. The game looks great, but damn... If you can't even get what the game is supposed to be about right, why bother. Beach Spikers is all volleyball and people still play it. It's a great multiplayer game, much like SSBM. I feel that if DOAX did the volleyball well it would have been a far more appealing game. It also doesn't help that it's only 2 players.
20. They lengthened Link's skirt/kilt thing. Yay.
21. Earthbound, in my mind, is the best RPG ever created. I've found that people who have gotten into RPGs since the PSX days demand totally different things in their games. Most can't even seem to get past the fact that you cannot see your characters in the fights and you have to read what's going on. I personally like this because of the odd little details they give you such as "Pokey hides in the corner!" or whatever else. I also find that people are turned off by the "simple" graphics. I don't argue that they are simple, but that doesn't make them bad. The character designs are interesting and the towns look great. I love the fact the game reminds me of some 40s sitcom or a weird cartoon. It's part of its charm. Then we get into the music, which is excellent in my opinion. Earthbound has one of the best soundtracks ever. It's one of the few that I'll actually listen to right out of the game (I have the entire soundtrack rip in MP3 form, something like 150 tracks). It's even better orchestrated, if the song allows it (many are somewhat ambient instead). And the best thing? The entire theme of the game. The whole idea behind it is so radically different from nearly every RPG. You're actually on Earth in this game, and despite all the weirdness the game is actually like the real world. No medieval or future stuff (although there is a bit of that, and Magicant is still unexplainable). It just seemed so fresh at the time compared to everything else available. It has flaws... The game is rather short (I'd say 25 hours maybe), which isn't bad... but it just isn't long enough either. It's fairly linear too. There is very little you can do in the game that you don't have to do. However, the incredible translation (which was done by Dan Owsen) which was probably the best console RPG translation up to that point and the style the game has totally makes up for the flaws. I'd hope that people play this on an SNES. It's not hard to get honestly, and playing RPGs in emulation form is about 1354265 times less fun than the real deal.
22. There is a Zelda forum here, which is where all the Zelda posts go. There is also a decent sized thread on the game there already. Go to http://www.otakuboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14197 to check it out.
23. I don't know how many people here are familiar with the Star Ocean series. It's published by Enix and developed with Tri-Ace (one of my favorite RPG companies, also behind the excellent Valkyrie Profile). The original was only in Japan for the Super Famicom, but the second one was released in the US as Star Ocean: Second Story. I thought it was an excellent game, that was perhaps too amibitious and was thus somewhat flawed... The horrible SCEA translation didn't help either. Anyway, Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time is for PS2 and will be the first game under the new Square Enix label (that name must have taken forever to come up with  ). The story itself hasn't really been spoken about. There are a lot of real world monuments in the game, and apparently they are important to the story. Tri-Ace really hasn't spoken about it though, other than giving some tiny background on the main characters. Like the other games in the series, battles take place in realtime. You control one character and the computer controls the other 2 (you have 3 in a party at a time). You can switch which character you control on the fly. So basically, you get into a fight and are able to run around and hit the enemies and do all sorts of special moves. If you time yourself with the other characters, you can also do combos and such. In the past games, you could freeze the action while you went through your magic and item menus. This game seems no different in that aspect. Graphically, sometimes shots of this game seem underwhelming. It has a style simliar to Skies of Arcadia or Suikoden III in a space environment... but there are a hell of a lot more effects. If you see recent videos the fights have some amazing lighting and pyrotechnics when characters cast spells and whatever else. There is also FMV, but Tri-Ace hasn't been a company to overuse it so far... What I've seen of that is pretty damn impressive as well. Anyone that played the second game on PSX would remember the private events. Basically, before you entered a town you could choose if you wanted to enter it as a group or split up. If you split up, you could talk to the other members of your party in the town and influence the story (and the ending even, there were like 80 endings) in some way. I'm not clear if this in the game or not, as apparently no one has gotten to all that far in it (Enix just shows demos sometimes). However, during cutscenes you are sometimes given choices that will affect how things play out... Which is at least a start heh. Release dates have been all over about this game. It was already supposed to be out in Japan. I don't even think it is yet. Then there was a US date of March, which was thrown out the window really quickly. Apparently the new US date is September, which is so far away :( Enix of America was originally supposed to bring it over, but they closed down. I'm not sure how the Square Enix localizing will work, but they'll probably wind up sticking with EA which judging from the past translations is a good thing.
24. Heh. That site seems to be down, but I have dozens more that most people don't seem to have seen. I'm just posting to say that I got my OoT/Master Quest disc. Yay! ^^^ Awesome image from the WW preview booklet. I'm thinking about making a GC box art out of it. I'll post it if I ever finish it.
25.
Originally posted by Mitch As for a possible new game, I wouldn't call these sequels, they don't really all tie in together. From what I've played of Cross (which was about fifteen minutes), Cross and Trigger have mostly nothing that parallels one another.
This doesn't compute in my head. The games take place incredibly far apart from one another. Of course after 15 minutes you won't see any huge parallels story wise. In fact, you might not see any at all unless you do some digging and tying things together yourself. It's all there though. As for actual gameplay parallels, which is probably what you were referring to heh... The games are rather different, maybe surprisingly so... At the same time, I think they are rather simliar in many ways. I honestly prefer Chrono Cross' fighting system to Chrono Trigger's, despite the differences. When you get used to the magical fields and everything, it's a very well done system that adds to what CT originally had in the first place. It isn't really a replacement, as much as it's an evolution (FF does this same thing). The graphical style isn't really simliar either, considering Toriyama wasn't involved with this one... I honestly can't stand the faces of a lot of the characters in the game, especially Serge's. Some characters were great though. Harle rocks :D Chrono Trigger was far from my first RPG. I do like it very much, but at the same time I think it's incredibly overrated. I don't want sequels to be just like their originals, especially in RPGs... But that's me.
