punk bands

Obviously Avril, Blink 182 and the like are arguable. Linkin Park is definately not punk though, there is no other way to take that - they just aren't lol (if that's even what you meant, I can't tell :)). I personally don't like any of those, but to each their own. I didn't like Blink 182 even when they were lesser known... their sound never did anything for me, so I'm not one of these turncoats that hates them for their popularity. Greenday is decent, and Offspring is tolerable. My favorite punk band is a local Chicago band called Apocalypse Hoboken. They are kind of like Screeching Weasel, except even less user friendly. It's all supposed to be tongue in cheek though. The band broke up last year, but had a sort of "final" show a few months ago. They sold a box set at the show, which I of course missed. I picked one up off eBay the other day, and I was so excited to get it... But at the same time I was really sad considering this is the last thing they will ever put out. Sucks to see your favorite band basically die. Otherwise, I like all sorts of punk/whatever... AFI, No Use For a Name, Assorted Jellybeans, Mi6, Bad Religion, Millencolin, Useless ID, Ramones, Ozma, Goldfinger, Antifreeze, Satanic Surfers, Ataris, Sex Pistols, 88 Fingers Louie, Rise Against, Ignite, Model Citizen, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Jughead's Revenge, Blue Meanies and so on and so forth. I'm currently working on making a shirt design for a band called Ten Foot Pole... It's part of a small contest, hopefully I'll win haha.
2. School isn't really the place to be discussing sexual preference and insemination/whatever either... at least depending on the class. This was a math class, it doesn't fit. That doesn't mean the guy should be banned from teaching, which a really stupid and overboard thing to do. The guy wasn't harming anyone, and considering how much people were talking about it, the students might have brought it up themselves in the first place. Still, not a good thing to be getting into in a math class heh.
3. I don't know how anyone can not be disappointed with GC if they don't really like the big Nintendo made games for it honestly. I personally buy Nintendo systems for Nintendo games, the exclusive 3rd party stuff is just icing. Getting 3 months out of a game is quite good if you ask me. I don't play some games after a couple days. I go back to SSBM every so often, and multiplayer is still a lot of fun if you are playing someone that knows what they are doing (and doesn't ***** everytime they lose, which is very rare it seems). I just wonder what people are expecting if they are disappointed. There are quite a few great games on the system, and this is coming off of N64 which sometimes got one game a month. I'm very happy with what has come so far, and I'm looking forward to next year... Promises to be quite good. Cubivore on November 12th! :) :)
4. It seems to depend who you talk to lately. I never would have thought Cure were goth myself, but everyone in the last couple years I talk to about it tries to convince me otherwise.
5. We had a topic on this a while back that was kind of strange... But anyway, I love The Cure. Bloodflowers was, in my opinion, their overall best CD. I wish all Cure CDs had that much feeling in them. I love Manson, but I've never considered the band goth. I don't really think anyone that has been listening to them since the start (Spooky Kids, not ACS or SLC) really does either. As for other goth bands... I don't like Depeche Mode. I like Black Tape for a Blue Girl, Type O Negative and several other groups I cannot remember the spelling of haha.
6. I never got the whole interest in Taz... He was in like 4 episodes I can think of, and the majority of people have never even seen those. Anyway, I like Daffy most I'd say. Not the ones where he and Bugs are hunted by Elmer... But the ones where Daffy is the star. One I like is where Daffy and this little kid duck go to Porky's office. Daffy dresses like the Chiquita banana lady and does these weird dances.
7. EB is paid by companies to do stuff like that. If you call them, sometimes they say "Acclaim Headquarters" or whatever other random company. This month is apparently Xbox month. I really hate EB. They are small, and the racks with accessories on them are a mess. The guy at the one I go to won't even speak to you unless you make him, otherwise he stares at you. The other employee knows jack **** about games. I saw a guy, he has to be like 40, talking to him about Xbox... saying what a godsend it was. The ironic thing was that he was trading in some decent PS2 games for crap like Shrek and Kabuki Warriors (arguably the worst games for the Xbox at the time). The GC really isn't that far behind Xbox in terms of 3rd party support. I notice that a lot of stores carry like a 1/3 of what is actually availible.
8. I own all 3 of the current systems, and I do find myself buying more NES games than anything new... But anyway, I guess it depends on the person. SSBM was never a game I was crazy about getting. I didn't like the original whatsoever. I bought SSBM played it a couple weeks, and that was it. I found myself going back to it to complete it though. It is a lot of fun (especially multiplayer) and I enjoyed all the extras. I think the main problem is that people approach this game like it's a normal fighter and it's not. A lot of people just plain seem to suckj at it too, and don't realize there are more moves for each character than are apparent. The dodge roll and reflecting shots alone adds a lot to the game. I always liked RE, and this game was no exception. Made up for the absurdity that was Code Veronica. The only think freaky in that game was the villian, and only because of the drag queen stuff. As for SMS, I don't know what people expected. I personally think it wipes the floor with Mario 64. People complain about the blue coins, but it's not like you MUST get them to enjoy the game. I think it lived up to my high expectations. SFA is also pretty good, although incredibly linear and easy. It's worth playing through and was one of the more enjoyable games I've played in a while. ED was good while it lasted, and AC is shaping up to be my personal favorite game in really long time. I can't even describe what is so great about it, all I know is that it's a lot of fun. Honestly, I've enjoyed my time with my GC more than I have with my PS2 or Xbox in recent months. I'm looking forward to a few games yet... Godzilla, Robotech, TS2, Nightfire, Metroid and most of all, Cubivore (and some others I can't think of offhand). Not to say I won't be buying stuff for other systems, but there is still plenty for GC. I suppose if you aren't happy with it, there is always PS2.

Blade II

The Reapers remind me a lot of revenants... They are more or less the same thing. I thought the idea was interesting though. I didn't go expecting anything but a somewhat decent action movie, and that's what I got. I was content lol. I will admit the fighting CG was really lame. Even more annoying was that some of the actors in the movie are known for their fighting skills... which weren't shown off in the movie at all for some reason. It took the backseat to fake Blade acrobatics.
10. The stories are different, and only share one character: D (well and his hand). Bloodlust is different in the sense that the main "villian" isn't really a stereotypical bad guy. He isn't there for the sole purpose of killing people and destroying D. I think a lot of people had the idea that Bloodlust was a remake of the original, and it's not. They are both based on different novels from the same series. Either way, I think it's a must see.
11. It still is giving up on a lot of things to make sure she is happy and secure. I mean, sure, having a baby is obviously what she wants to do. But I think it is in her, and her baby's, best interest to continue with and finish school. Make sure her own life is where it should be before she adds someone else to it. I think advice given here would be good for anyone, no matter what their situation is otherwise. You never know what could happen in the future, she might as well make sure she is in the best situation she could be.

V?

I think the problem is that it was only availible with Anthology in the US. Otherwise there is the ROM, which is how I played it. Either way, I guess it didn't catch their attention. FF5 was cool mostly for the job system, other than that it really didn't advance past 4 in really any other way. FF3 did use a job system for sure, and I too cannot remember about FF2. FF allowed you to pick different classes though, and later on in the game they could advance. The characters had like older, stronger versions of themselves later in the game.
13. My first RPG was Dragon Warrior, which was given away for free one year with a subscription to Nintendo Power. I played FF a couple years later, and rented it a few times. I never wound up buying it until years later when it was only 10 dollars at Toys R Us. By that time FF2 was already out, which I also wound up getting way later through some trades. The first FF I bought on time was FF3 haha. I've bought every FF that came to the US so far, with the exception of Mystic Quest which I borrowed from a friend. I've played Anthology and Chronicles... but compared to the carts, the load times are just unbearable. I never bothered to actually buy them.
14. You might want to read up, because Capcom still talks about making 4. It isn't done yet haha.
15. Code Veronica is NOT RE4. RE4 is coming out after RE Zero and the other ports are completed. If Mikami and friends spent time remaking RE2 and RE3, quite simply Zero and 4 would be coming out years from now. I'd rather get new games than wait for remakes. No matter how different the remake of RE is.
16. Old bands are doing the same things. Their are plenty of older bands that have gone commercial as well. Ozzy and Aerosmith come to mind pretty quick. You can't really listen to metal anymore without hearing about those topics you mentioned...lol.
17. I never quite understood female fans of boy bands or some of the more popular groups like the Beatles... The type that wait in line to see them, make elaborate posterboard signs and scream their lungs out until they faint. I can't say I hate anybody over something like this though.
18. Vampire Hunter D was actually my first anime. I saw the old VHS tape more than 10 years ago, I'd say. I had no idea it was so violent at the time; all I knew was that it was animated... So I popped it in. I probably won't ever forget it since it was my first. It totally changed what I thought cartoons (I had no idea it was called anime at the time, this was before really any of it was on TV). So as soon as I heard about Bloodlust, I was of course incredibly interested. My friend and I were supposed to see at a small local theater called the Music Box... We could never find it though (I didn't find out it's location until like last month haha). I finally found it on DVD though, and I must say I almost consider it the best anime film I ever saw. I cannot really think of anything that is wrong with it. It has amazing animation, wonderful sound, a decent plot - taking a tired idea more or less, and reinventing it. The story was one of the best parts for me, because you could actually feel for the two that were in love. It's quite a difference from most other vampire movies. The characters were memorable, even if some had powers that weren't utilized enough or really explained well (I'm sure they were more useful in the novels these movies are based on). I wasn't fond of a lot of the facial structure, the eyes are kind of creepy... Especially on the child at the end. Speaking of which... the ending was probably the best part. This is one of the few anime I've seen that really ended well, and in a very memorable way. I don't think the movie could have had a better ending, and it really showed off the more human side of D (well caring side anyway, proving he isn't just a killer).
19. I don't know that anyone is going to justify your swearing at a teacher.
20. That's from the Quartermann rumor section, most of which is pulled out of someone's ***. I don't know when FFXI will be coming here, as the fact is the HD is an expensive, required device for this game. I personally think SCEA is waiting for some more games that will make use of this thing... For example, Tony Hawk 3 was ready for online play the day it came out, but Sony waited with the network adapter for more games to be released. I think this is the same case. After all the hype around FFXI, I think there would be a massive outcry if it didn't come out here at all... I guess it all depends on the HD really. In addition, I find it hard to believe that Square wasn't taking worldwide server usage into account when developing this game. I also find it hard to believe that Sony wouldn't be willing to help, or even EA who helps publish all Square games now. At least the PC version is an option though.
21. RE 2 and RE 3 are not being fixed up whatsoever. They are simple ports, and are looking no better than the DC ports. I expect them to be 20 dollar bargain titles the second they come out. Their only purpose is to get Nintendo fans familiar with RE's story, considering the remake was the first one some Nintendo fans played. I certainly can't expect them to make every one of the ports perfect, but what they are doing is pretty lazy. If you see any pics from now on of another good looking RE, it's of RE Zero. Comes out pretty soon.
22. In every interview so far, Julian of Factor 5 has said using full screen, 30 fps Divx video is expensive on the hardware. I can't really see something like RE making much use of this for that reason. It'll come in handy for games that use lots of video by itself though.

Avril!

I'm not offended, I am just trying to show another side of this. Considering everyone else thinks my opinion on this is flawed, might as well get it out there so they maybe could at least see my point. I don't listen to Avril really, I don't mind her as she is either. I just don't like the way things with music in general are heading, and she is a good scapegoat for this. She is accessible because she fits into this group and is brought up here daily. That was the basic idea :). If people like her that's cool. The only reason I chimed in at all about any of this was because people were acting like there was no opinion to have on her. It's hard to not pay attention to something when you see and hear about it near constantly. But I'm done lol.

Avril!

Message is something I addressed in my other post, and so have the other people arguing about this before. Considering this is the millionth thread on Avril, I'm sure the older ones would contain half of their arguments on "message" that is being brought up now. The point that it's about the message makes no sense to me, because Avril simply doesn't have her OWN message at all. I'm still not even understanding how what Sere is saying is going against what my problem with Avril is in the first place. What possible message could she have when she isn't the one writing most of these songs? What exactly is the message? That she, and these lyricists that helped her write the song, ike skater boys? There is no personal message of her own in these songs. I'd brush it aside otherwise, because there are tons of punkish bands I personally don't care for. The way this is being done though just goes against everything I always thought punk was about. The fact that she doesn't write these songs basically nullifies any possible "message" she could have. I do not know of one other punk band that does not write their own songs. Someone spending hundreds of dollars on "punk" accessories she doesn't know how to use (such as that skateboard) just to look cool, to me, doesn't get punk in the first place. What could she possibly have to say if she doesn't even write most of these songs herself? She has very little influence on them, which would basically mean they are some sort of fabrication on her part. These are things labels do to people in boy bands, and with stuff like Britney Spears. They are basically forcing her into punk because of bands like New Found Glory and BLink 182 that have been doing well recently. It's the same damn process. That is MY problem with it, which I think was clear before. She could call herself whatever she wanted (outside of yet another girl solo singer that sounds the same), and I'd be annoyed with what her and her label were doing. Yeah, I know a lot of groups don't write or perform their own songs. This isn't the monkees, and generally these people you are referring to are part of a 5 piece singing group or a solo singer of sorts. BUT the whole pretending to be something else is part of the problem. The Backstreet Boys and Alicia Keys and Fiona Apple aren't trying to be something they're not. And really, none of us (or at least myself) would ever talk about Avril if it wasn't brought up day in and day out here. If there are other groups people want to hate on, that's their business. They can bring them up all they want. Instead we get another Avril topic. A lot of punk does have a messsage, whether you want to believe otherwise or not. Comparing two totally different genres of music, especially one with lyrics to one without makes a whole lot of sense. I'll listen to songs for a musical reason (instrumental only), but some are appealing because of what they are about, in addition to the music itself. A good deal of punk is about some sort of rebellion (small or otherwise), governmental problems and such other things. A lot of it is also about nothing haha. But at least I know they are writing this because it's what they feel and not because it sounds great and will sell CDs. If they wanted to sell a million copies they most likely wouldn't be a punk band. If you don't get any of that now, I don't know what else to tell you lol. I don't care if other people don't have a problem with these same things. I personally do, as punk is something I listen to and honestly care about. I don't want to see it become another **** genre where anyone that looks good can go platinum. Again, it isn't really Avril herself, but the entire message it is conveying to me.
25. If you read it in any mag, it would be a really old one. GTA is Sony exclusive to 2004 at the earliest.
