I'm not sure where you are shopping, but singles are VERY easy to get around here. Assuming you like something in the Top 20 singles at the time anyway. Every single music store here has stacks of them, and Target, K-Mart, Best Buy, etc. all have seperate single sections as well as having some filed with the bands LPs. They sell well enough to justify their own racks at stores. If you look at singles charts they sell considerably well depending on the band. It seems singles are more popular in Europe. Most of the singles I actually want (for their B-Sides) are imported and cost like 10 to 14 dollars. Domestic singles on average cost $1.99 to $5.99. Considering a lot of places are still charging $18.99 for an LP, I don't think that's all that bad. Singles are used for radio play... In fact, those are generally the CDs that are sent to radio stations. That or full promos, which are changed from time to time (Tweaker comes to mind). I know a lot of people who buy the singles just because they like the one song on the radio. They don't seem to care about the other songs, regardless of whether or not they might like the entire CD. It makes no sense to me, but there are people like that. And really... I don't know that the record company really cares how long you listen to the CD as long as you bought it. Singles released afterwards help make an LP seem more new than it actually is. It ups the life expectancy (or so they hope), and may get even more people into the band. I think a lot of people around here would be rather upset if they had to keep buying singles with an LP nowhere to be found for another year. I guess both countries should stick with what works best for them :). I'm not seeing a problem really with either way of doing it.

I'm glad they changed the design. I already played 2 Zelda's that were just like Ocarina of Time, why would I want to play another? That's exactly why Miyamoto changed it in the first place, he said it was just turning out to be a prettier OoT. While some people may want that, I sure don't. And monsters and Link are totally different things. I mean Link is a little kid in this game, and of course he would make an expression like that... He's looking at some scary monster. The boss in the E3 demo of this game was easily as freaky looking as anything in OoT (barring Ganon in his final form). There were plenty of things in OoT that were just as corny and cartoonish in my opinion... I guess the graphical style just changes people's thoughts on that. I think the monsters in those pictures are good enough. The first one shows Moblins with huge blades looking like they are about to rip Link apart with their teeth. The bats in the 2nd one are infinately more detailed than the Keese in the past games, and the giant centipede is far less cartoony than the ones in Link to the Past. I didn't even post a picture of the boss, which in my opinion looks amazing. This game reminds me of the Gameboy Zelda games and Link to the Past, and I'm happy about that. But like you said it's a matter of opinion. I could do without an OoT clone :).

I buy singles, but only if they have some b-sides or extras. Most of the bands I listen to seem to make singles with the main song, a live track and a b-side. To me that's worth paying the import price. A lot of bands here put out a single a little before their main LP comes out. It gets interest in the CD. The reason most are released afterwards though is to generate continued interest in the CD and hopefully keep sales going. Seems like most bands release 3 singles per LP, and they are usually a month or so apart. If you play all these singles before the LP even comes, I don't know if anyone would care once it finally is out. This isn't including people that are into the band in the first place, because singles are used to get new people into the band. Playing it all out at once and not allowing people to buy the CD would probably deter interest. I don't really know how it works in Japan, as I really am not into most Japanese music :).

The Xbox has been hacked for months now. Mod chips are now in heavy supply, and VERY easy to get. There are emulators for SNES, Atari, N64, Colecovision, NES, Genesis and MAME right now... As well as Media Player. Last I heard, PSX hasn't been done properly yet. There is a big difference between claims, and things that were or can be done. If I believed everything I saw, I would already think GC was hacked... There was a video of kids playing burned GC games a while back. I remember DC being hacked far more quickly than Xbox was. Every system will be hacked eventually (although GC seems like it would be the most difficult and expensive to), and ones based on some sort of Windows technology will most likely be hacked the fastest since a lot of people know their way around it (DC used Windows CE and Xbox uses a modified Windows 2000 kernel). As for Live... I don't really know how it's going to work. I was under the impression that you wouldn't be able to just surf the internet freely. You'd be basically locked inside MS's area. Meaning everything would be protected by them the best they could. I don't see how the system being hacked to play backups will lead to some need for patches honestly. There will probably be a lot of registering for Xbox Live games (like PSO and it's serial code, and most online PC games) to reduce the problem of people playing burned games. Either way you'd have to pay for Live anyway. And like I said, Live will be regulated by MS. I don't see how people could ever just send you a virus or something else. Perhaps they could cheat in games somehow, but Gamesharks allow this anyway.

Hasn't Soul Reaver 2 been out quite a while now? Maybe I'm mistaken. I loved the original, but I played a demo of the the sequel and wasn't impressed. It was just a little too similiar. I plan on getting Kingdom Hearts and Disaster Report (http://www.gamers.com/news/1210205). I also NEED Suikoden 3, which is probably my most anticipated PS2 game. Other than those... really all I buy anymore are old PSX games. I just picked up Threads of Fate and Front Mission 3. I still can't find Legend of Mana .

Right now Pikmin is in my actual drive. I bought myself a new 55" Widescreen HDTV and some component cables... so I've been playing pretty much everything I own on every system to test it out haha. I can't wait to see SMS on it :).
-
That's simply because no one knows jack about it other than rumors. There is no release date, or anything even remotely like that.

I am not really interested in Linkin Park in general... but I remember hearing about this CD at Seems Like Salvation because Manson was providing a remix for it. I lost all interest in the CD once I learned it wouldn't be included on the LP. It's on the single though, which I plan on buying. My friend tells me it's a great remix CD though. He made it sound like vocals and things were completely different. Is this true?

Well supposedly the Freeloader will allow you to play NTSC games on PAL machines no problem, and vice versa. I guess we'll see for sure when the time comes :).
-
Yeah, that must have been it. I'm not sure why Nintendo insists on changing it so much. Anyway, a SMS save does not unlock the new Mario trophy in Japan. It sounds like it is unlocked somehow at Toys R Us, kind of like how Mew was added to Pokemon Red and Blue later. That was mainly a Japan only thing though, so maybe they will do it another way here.

Looking back on it I understand your point, Harlequin. It's hard to considering all the people that are addressing things in here :). I find it rather odd that one would think that the genre of music is determined on whether or not you listen to it or not. Considering a band goth just because you are gothesque and listen to them is rather strange. If someone who is a metalhead likes Selena for some reason... it doesn't make Selena metalhead type music. I don't quite get your reasoning there :). Life would be much easier if we kept music in simple groups like Rap, Rock Country, etc... All these sub-genres give me a headache.

Watch the Metroid Fusion video... when the weird looking Samus dies, you can clearly see it's the same as in Super Metroid - a blonde Samus. In the actual game, when Samus' suit is destroyed, you can see her in a swimsuit wrapped in a ball. Looks blonde to me :). I can't seem to find a shot of that though. The best ending in Super Metroid seems to suggest brown hair though, although it's a LOT lighter than on the NES shot you showed. And this is why I said Samus has green hair in my copy: There was a repackaging of Metroid later on in the NES' life cycle. It's possible they changed the color later on. But in mine (which I know is from the first batches, the cover is different), she has very green hair. I have NO idea why though. So either way, they changed it anyway lol. I think she looks better blonde personally. In the comics it was pink... So either she dyes her hair constantly, or no one can agree on what it should be :D. Weird looking picture I found.

I don't know what people expect. PSX is the only system with the Sesame Street, Elmo, etc games... yet no one cares. But Nintendo making a Pokemon game (which is well known to be aimed at kids anyway) is not good? There are plenty of non-childish games to get on Nintendo systems, despite what people say (and no I don't think games like Mario are childish unlike some). Personally, I thought Snap was a pretty cool game. I had a lot of fun playing it with my little cousins. Stadium is barely anymore cute and cuddly than the original Gameboy games. All it comes down to is this: If you don't like it, don't play it. That's what I go by anyway.

I'd say "Bullion" by Millencolin right now. For a while it always seemed to be more like "Minute of Decay" by Marilyn Manson lol.

If you don't like the style than that's cool with me. I like it a lot. Seems to me people that don't like things are always more vocal anyway, so I doubt anything anyone says to Nintendo matters to them. Japan loves it based on things I've seen, heard and read. And this is Miyamoto's game. I trust him with his own creations.

SMB is one of the best GC games there is in my opinion. I can't wait for SMB2. It's about monkeys rolling around in balls, what would you name it? lol I think what you are referring to is the sequel to Kirby's Tilt and Tumble. It was going to use the GBA for a tilt controller and the game would switch between the GBA and the TV depending on what you did. It's more like a weird pinball game than SMB. BUT, Nintendo removed Kirby from the game and replaced him with a plain old ball. They renamed the game Roll-a-thon. Not sure what's next for Kirby now, and I'd say the GC adventure game is still somewhat of a hope than an actually comfirmed game.

Broadband access is incredibly cheap in Japan due to so many competitors and such. It's at least half of what we pay here for normal broadband access. I really doubt most people would get a T1 though. And that is just plain overkill. A T1 can run a server handling like 24 people in a Quake 3 match no problem. Why ONE person would ever need that for themselves I'd never know. Yes, Square had problems at launch. They weren't ready for the massive influx of people who signed up at once for the game. They have fixed most of these though, and I'd figure by the time it goes worldwide they will be prepared.

I don't know if that's true anymore. Sure the hardcore players are more interested in the actual storyline... but no one buys ugly games. Hence, DW7 sold incredibly poor here in the US. To me that was far better than the past few FF's (other than FFX), but it's all a matter of preference. You have to really understand that 2D games take a ton of work. Sure you don't have to worry about 3D roaming and camera problems, but the amount of things that must be created is overwhelming. Hand drawing characters and backgrounds is a LOT of work. Personally, I think games like Unlimited SaGa (coming to PS2 soon), Legend of Mana and Valkyrie Profile are gorgeous. They are 2D, although Unlimited Saga has 3D backgrounds. I always have respected 2D games more, mainly because I just find them more impressive and they allow so much more detail. In terms of actual gameplay... I don't think it matters either way. They still do the same things. They just do them differently. There are a lot of old school players who act like they hate 3D. That generally isn't totally true... but they just prefer the older styles. 2D has a lot farther to go. Could you imagine if someone actually spent a lot of money to make a good 2D game on a newer system? It would look amazing. Instead, most of that is allocated to FMV departments. I am not a huge fan of FF7 though FF9, but not one of my complaints has to do with the addition of 3D graphics to the series. The only game I did wish stayed 2D was Wild Arms 2... mainly because the second one sucked in general compared to the first. It wasn't really the fault of the 3D graphics or anything like that.

Shine Get! is what Super Mario Sunshine says when Mario finds an item called a shine. It's coming out on GC later this month. I see Justin's point, and I agree with him. I certainly think it would help increase the readership here... and would probably liven up the game sections a lot. At the same time, it would probably bring in a million Nintendo fanboys that you are probably better off without anyway :).

Am I depressed...or blowing it out of proportion?
Semjaza replied to GinnyLyn's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, but it's not necessarily the only thing depressing her. I found that I only thought about stuff like that after being depressed in the first place. Even then, there isn't always a reason. Sometimes it just happens. Generally, if this doesn't continue for weeks onto months straight... it's not something to worry about. I would probably talk to someone outside of the boards about it anyway though. If it's really bad there are medications... but otherwise you are taken to a psychiatrist who will help you find better ways of thinking about things. This way you will see things from a different angle, and hopefully not get so saddened over them and can deal with them rationally. I've had a lot of the same problems. For me, it just basically stopped after I made myself get over things that I couldn't before. I really didn't care how it was affecting myself, but to know that I was hurting and worrying other people... well that actually made me want to change it. I'd check it out even if you are slightly worried. I mean, what could it hurt? Either you'd get help to be yourself again, or you'd find out you were fine anyway. -
I think you are failing to see that nearly everyone here, and in general, has different ideas of what goth should sound like. I listed several bands that most people consider "gothic" right now, but you insist they aren't because they are goth rock or whatever else. Siouxie and the Banshees in truth are more rock-like than half the other bands I listed. In fact, a good deal of people consider them an early punk band. They were inspired by the Sex Pistols in the first place. I know a lot of people who consider Siouxie goth, but just as many don't. If you are hung on genres, goth itself is huge and encapsulates many sounds. If you just wanted to talk about specific bands (which mainly seems to be Siouxie), I think you should have said so in the first place. I really don't think the definition of gothic music begins and ends with what you think it does. Not like I'm annoyed by it or anything, as I don't think it's super important. Just stating :).

I'm surprised, considering this was supposedly one of the best movies of the year. I still haven't gotten around to seeing it myself... :D. Strange no one else has though.

That rumor still depends on who you talk to. There were heavy rumors that NST was making Ocarina of Time for GC. People were pretty unclear on if it would be enhanced or not, but it was to include URA Zelda (which was completed for 64DD but never released). Planet Gamecube still insists this rumor is true to this day, and for whatever reason the game was put on hold despite it being in the testing stages. I tend to believe Dragona and Rick at PGC, so there might be some weight to that rumor. BUT, the rumor that the old Spaceworld footage is anything is still total BS like Desbreko said. I think an online Zelda would be the only Zelda game I'd never ever buy. Talk about ruining what a series is about...
-
In truth it's too vague to define. I would say check out "How We Quit the Forest" and "Thanks for the Ether." Both are quite good. I also like "Transylvanian Regurgitations... but it's a remix CD. It's far different from their other CDs, which mainly consist of cello for the music.

Typing of the Dead is basically House of the Dead, but you type instead of using a light gun. You have to type words and sentences to shoot the enemies that are charging at you. Typing of the Dead doesn't have lessons per se, but it still helps. When you have monsters running at you, you have to type as fast and precisely as possible. Especially in later stages, where you have to type entire sentences. I certainly think it's worth $10 bucks... It's incredibly fun, and I've gotten much more out of it than any of those boring typing programs you see otherwise... With the exception of one where you have to type to get a little pink bunny to go eat a carrot... That was okay too :).
