GT was probably the first PSX game I was ever really, really excited about. I cannot even explain why. I don't keep up on cars. I am not really even interested in them beyond casual thoughts. The game just seemed so deep and amazing compared to everything else out there. It almost appealed to my RPG interests as much as it did to any interest I'd have in cars. GT4 does look incredible. I'd probably not be getting it if my copy of GT3 didn't randomly disappear... but it did, so there goes another $40 to $50 lol.

I loathe the Jak series. Especially the second one. It's trying to hard to mash GTA into its own, traditional formula and I don't feel it came out well. However, you should definitely check out Rachet and Clank 2: Going Commando. I wasn't too into the original, but the second is simply excellent. I loved every last bit of it. It uses the same engine developed or Jak, and to me, signifies that Naughty Dog should stop making games and just develop engines for Insomniac to use heh. Same goes for Maximo: Army of Zin, the sequel to the original Maximo. The original was decent, but the second improves on it in every conceivable manner. Especially the bosses. Despite the general internet dislike of Super Mario Sunshine, I did like the direction it attempted to go in. No, not the replay levels five times idea or the lack of differently themed levels... but really just the emphasis on pure platforming skill. The sub-zone areas without FLUDD are amazing to me. I love those sorts of ideas and most platforming games really just ignore them now in favor of huge worlds with fairly simply jumping mechanics.

Gaming What GBA game would you recommend for someone who plays RPGs?
Semjaza replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in Noosphere
Eh. Hardcore game playing is all relative, I guess. Not very many people I know are willing to go between some of the more heavily realized PC RPGs to console style ones. Obviously there are exceptions. Both you and I are examples.
Shining Force from what I hear is slightly disappointing. Which is too bad, because I loved Shining Force II for the Sega Genesis, but this one everyone says doesn't quite measure up. Maybe because at this point better "tile-based" tactical RPGs have been made..
I don't know where, because quite honestly, everything I've read about it has been very positive. There's always places that review these types of games rather poorly because they simply don't like them... but everything I've read (from official sites and general people) has been positive and has said it's substantially improved over the original title. -
Even ignoring that, The Spirits Within did poorly commercially and critically. In fact, I don't think the Square studio that made the film even exists in the same capacity anymore due to the film's failure.

Perfect celebrities should just make good movies or music or whatever it is they are paid to do. I couldn't care less about their personal lives.
Try being un-gay.
Your genius is often unappreciated here, it seems. I'd just tell them. Your sexual preference is of no real consequence to them as it is.

DDS and SMT:N are kind of aimed at totally different segments of the market. While SMT:N continues with SMTs routes and appeals to the hardcore RPG player... DDS is aimed more towards those who are more interested in flashy presentations and easy to understand/hard to master gameplay. I don't think releasing them so close is that bad of an idea, because really DDS has no more to do with the standard SMT franchise than Persona ever did. They're both spinoffs and are capable enough of standing on their own. Of course, putting them in close proximity will likely cause some issues as you say, plus the US version of DDS getting the SMT added to its title may be confusing for some. . I'm getting both, so it doesn't affect me. They'll likely be the best RPGs of the year. However, I think DDS will be delayed heh. The next one I'm getting is Tales of Symphonia, simply because it comes out before the rest of these. One that was sadly forgotten here by most is the mentioned Phantom Brave. Disgaea and La Pucelle fans should watch out for that one.

I don't know wko thimks they ROCK!!! But I do know this is the wrong forum and that you most definitely need to read the rules. http://www.otakuboards.com/rules.php? Please click that link and read everything there about forty times. Then do it again.

I don't read the books... but in the movie it made quite a bit of sense. It's illegal to kill someone... but can you still do it? Of course. So I just figured that despite it being illegal to use magic in those areas, it's still entirely possible. It's within his power to do so. Why would it being illegal completely prevent him from being able to use it? Maybe in the books he simply cannot do that even if he wants to? I don't know.

.hack isn't even on GBA as it is. Way to read the thread. Considering his obvious interest in more "hardcore" RPGs due to his PC use, I doubt something as watered down as Golden Sun will provide much entertainment. As far as I'm concerned, the first is downright awful. The "sequel" (which really isn't one, it was all supposed to be one game originally... that's why there is no 2 in the title), is a vast improvement. Shining Force was recently released for GBA (or will be shortly). At this point I'd recommend that, Fire Emblem and any game with tactics in the title. -
"Maybe"? lol If they're that unsure then maybe they shouldn't vote in the first place.

We have an old thread on that here. It's still a distance off for Japan, it definitely won't hit the US in time for her to bother buying it. -

I don't even consider the Zelda games RPGs in the normal sense. They're adventure games. I'd strain myself to even consider them action RPGs. While I'm sure he'd like any Zelda game, I'm not so sure that's the type of game he'd be looking for in this situation. -

Dragon Warrior III is hands down the best GameBoy RPG there is, but I don't know how easy of a time you'll have getting it. Personally, I'd look for Tactics Ogre Advance, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, Harvest Moon (farming RPG, not for everyone) or Shining Soul 2 (good action RPG, the first is not that great). I've never liked the Golden Sun titles, but Lost Age is better than the original. -
Yeah, I know about those, but the problem is that when you're using a GCN-GBA cable with an SP, the cable plug covers the EXT.2 port. So nothing else can be plugged in while it's linked to a GCN.
I believe there are also 3rd party GCN/GBA cables with power-through ports on them. I swear I've seen them before.

Gaming What was the first game console you ever used?
Semjaza replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in Noosphere
My first console was an Atari 2600 and I believe the first game was Atlantis. The iMagic version, not the Activision one. Same game, different company, for whatever reason. I still have it packed up with dozens of different types of controllers and around fifty games. -
well i bought a neat little thing for my GBA that you clip in the back and it makes you hold the GB like a playstation colrtoller! it also comes with a recharge plug! and you can always buy a light or just turn the light on! and SP screens, are they the same size as the GBA ones? i dont know... well i just have to say i like the GBA!
They sell that same add-on for the SP. Plus, I think any good amount of time with the SP in poor lighting conditions would prove that no light add-on for the normal GBA even comes close (not even Afterburner). And Desbreko, 3rd parties sell cords that let you charge and use headphones at the same time. They're very cheap and work quite well.
-
I don't know why anyone would choose a normal GBA over a SP, other than the price difference. $69 to $99 is a decent gap, although I've seen the SP on sale for $89 rather often (this week at Circuit City even, since the new NES SP is out). The SP has a built in front light, it folds shut to protect the screen, the chargable battery is far more convenient and cheaper in the long run. Strangely, I find it even more comfortable to hold than the original GBA, which I wasn't expecting when the SP was first unveiled. I'd get the SP and be done with it heh.

For those of you that care, the Sonic Mega Collection for GCN is only $15 at Circuit City this week. Good deal.

It's called euthanasia, by the way. I did a huge presentation on it several months ago, along with a report. Sadly, I don't think I have it anymore. Morality in this situation is hard to judge. Euthanasia isn't even necessarily administered to people who can even justify needing it, as you mentioned. I know in many places where this practice is legal, if you want to do it, you can. End of story. You don't need to be dying or really even in any sort of proven and diagnosed physical or emotional pain. I think all you need is some sort of easy to obtain signature in many foreign countries. I believe the only place it is legal in the US is Oregon. The method they use involves some sort of pills. I think most people think of euthanasia as a very short process, but in this case it can often take quite awhile to even take effect. Hours even. Some people even get sick off the pills and have all sorts of pain until it kicks in. I think many people think of this process as almost a "putting to sleep" kind of thing, like with dogs at a pound. It really isn't that humane (if you can even call planned killing/suicide humane in the first place). I think in some instances euthanasia can be a better alternative for some people. It's really the person's choice whether he lives or dies. If someone is that miserable, I think it would be a difficult choice to make. I don't know if anyone would be better off with a family member in massive pain than just putting them out of their misery. In many cases, this is the actual wish of the patient. Yet it's hard to say since I think it's also very case by case dependant. However, doctors are supposed to cure people. Even if there isn't a cure at the time, I think just by the oath they take euthanasia processes are pretty much not tolerated at all. I can't see it ever being widely accepted. It definitely shouldn't be, as far as I'm concerned.
P.S. Did they have to change Dumbledore again? I heard he died or...something. O_o
Yeah, he passed away. I don't know what you mean by "again". It was the same guy, Richard Harris, in both of the first two films.

I try to be pretty nice to people on here overall. I mean, I've been told I come off pretty mean on here. Probably just because of how I write (and the fact that I use smilies maybe .01% of the time here)... but when there's an issue with someone I don't abuse my moderator powers. If someone goes after me, I just post something back in defense. Something I'd be doing exactly the same if I was a normal member. 99% of the time it is resolved via PMs and we never have a problem again. That's happened a few times. Some of those people still come here, some do not. To me OB is just a place I happen to go to. I do my job, try to enjoy myself and then go do other things. I know that I've been too harsh on people in the past, but I never flaunted my moderatorship in their faces to make them shut up. I never use that in an argument or debate. I guess that all can be said is that mods on the internet in general are only human as well, and while many many be totally nice people that do these things the way they should, some just aren't. They have bad days and good days in their own lives and it is often reflected on here, just like with any normal member. I have to admit that the longer you do this sort of job, the more frustrating seeing the same things over and over can get. Sometimes to the point that you just won't react in an incredibly positive manner. It can be even worse sometimes. When I have to be the only person on who is able to delete two dozen posts by someone who is putting up pictures of dead people and mutilated genitals, while simultaneously being called names by random people here because the mods didn't take care of it in a split second... well it's hard to be nice to anyone. I don't know why some people want this job so badly. I used to have kids IMing me on a weekly basis when I first became a mod asking how I did it or if I could get them to be one or tell James about them. I really don't know what they think they'll get out of it. I guess it feels like an accomplishment? Who knows. I never asked for this job and I never really showed a real interest in it before James asked. It's strange how that stuff works, I guess.

More new pics... http://www.squarenet.info/main.php?site=sn-news&id=1098 Worth checking out because they show a decent amount of the world map and some nice angles on the battles.
The Tribute to the Ramones was also nice, except Marilyn Manson's cover of KKK. Way to kill a song, Herma.
I liked Manson's cover of that song simply because it was so different from the original. I'm tired of cover songs where bands try to emulate the original band and don't do their own thing at all. At the same time, it isn't the greatest thing to listen to heh.

I thought everyone knew that TMNT originated as a black and white comic. It kicks ***, at that heh.
