Of course Toriyama's characters look the "same"--it's his art style. C'mon. Is it really that debatable? :nope:[/color']
I think it is considering his "art design" basically involves three facial designs for every character in existance and an insane amount of alien characters that look exactly the same. DQ8 has a main character that looks like any random alien in DBZ. The guy needs to evolve. Any other decent artist would have over such a long time span. I didn't realize someone's style had to be that stagnant.

Reading this gives me the impression that some people thinking referring to race or color at all automatically implies some form of racism. People are different colors and come from different backgrounds and they are important things in many ways. Heritage is important to a lot of people. In that same text book, I guarantee you if a white guy did something and his background was important it would name it. They always do and I'm sure if any of you looked in a decent history textbook, you'd find it to be true. Italian American. Irish American. Chinese American. Yet, strangely, none of these are ever mentioned as a problem. Why shoud this be different? Right now we live in a society that's so PC that even mentioning the obvious puts you in a bad situation. If I have a negative thing to say about someone that's another color I'm racist. Doesn't matter if the person was just a genuine jerk or not. I sit in classrooms in college where we have random middle aged people learning along with us. One time there was this 30 year old guy named Anthony who seriously blamed every last thing that happened to him on anyone else he could. White people do this to me, white people do that to me. Yet he had no specific examples of this ever happening. It was just the vague idea that all white people were "The Man" and they were subconciously always trying to keep him down. Never mind the fact that the guy was a moron and had no work ethic. It had to be his skin color. This man's color is only a big deal because people make it a big deal. I feel that his race is important in context of this story because of the time period it took place in. Just like any text book will name off the heritage of a white, hispanic or asian person in US history when they were having issues here. It's not biased in that sense. I read that sentence and I'm like "It's interesting that a black man was able to do something that important in a time when the civil rights for his race were so poor in this country. I think that's pretty impressive." Is that racist? I don't think so, but whatever. If you approach this with a mindset where you feel that just mentioning his race in any sense for whatever reason is somehow wrong than I think that's just weird. It's as if many people wish were were all grey with no hair and there'd be no differences between us. I personally like the differences because I feel they add to the uniqueness and amazing qualities of the human race in general, not because they allow me to look down at and cateogrize people. I think they can be important things. Acknowledging them does not mean you look at them in a negative light. People used to respect that this place was a "melting pot" of different cultures and now we just have a bunch of people who are so obsessed with "equality" that it has turned into more of an idea of assimilation than anything else. Good luck finding a country that doesn't have these issues, by the way. Every major country has pride. These are not American-centric problems and that's that. American people just make a far bigger deal out of all of it because they want to feel righteous in their actions.

The only real difference between Toriyama's designs for this game and his designs for anything else are the clothing styles. The facial structure is incredibly similiar in literally any character the guy comes up with anymore, whether it's Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest or Dragon Ball. There are huge similiarities between CT and DBZ and I think if you put Chrono in one of Goku's outfits you'd see that in a second. I don't think it's an issue, but I don't think it's not noticable either. Really though, it doesn't matter for this game. The team has nothing to do with Toriyama and the model they are coming up with just does not even fit with the original art. They have a long way to go with him yet heh.

I don't really see why vague notions of equality have to include ignoring someone's race and background. Does a person automatically look down at this man's contributions because he was African American? I'd assume no, but you never know with some people. The only reason I'd think that would even bring up the issue of equality would be thanks to someone who had a problem with the man being black in the first place. Why would it matter otherwise? It really shouldn't have any negative or positive connotations simply based on the person's color. For me, I don't really see what the big deal is with any of them, although there's obviously some things that look better in a text book and are more proper and PC. However, in this case specifically, I think it is an important point mainly because it happened in the 40s. Civil rights were nowhere near as developed in this country as they are now and I think it's important to mention such things when it involves overcoming the odds.

Eh. Special effects were great other than the living creatures. They were the only reason to see this film. However, I do think a few of the actors were able to pull off some good performances despite the rather uninteresting dialogue. They saved what could have been a far worse film. My main problem with the movie was how damn predictable it was. Everything that happened was set up from a mile away.
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! is also well worth buying, especially[/i'] if you have friends that you can play multiplayer with. The single player is pretty exhilirating (even if the computers hit a little too often with their items) and multiplayer is even better. I really like the variety of levels that you get in Double Dash!! and the two-player mechanic is fun to experiment with, as well. Co-op, in particular, can be really cool if you're able to find a person who can excel at Double Dash!!
I forgot about that one. Don't listen to some of the subpar reviews. This is a great game. It would be nice if there was more to unlock and a few more tracks, but what can you do. It looks good, runs well and plays great. It's probably the most hectic of the series thus far as well. At first I was weary of how wide the tracks were, but there is just so much more going on that it almost seems necessary. I played the hell out of it until I had everything unlocked and the multiplayer is a blast (although I wish there were more interesting battle stages).

I've never cried due to a song. However, there are some that I consider to be incredibly sad. Two of my picks are entire albums, but I still start with the first which is just a single song. Conversation Piece by David Bowie. Specifcally the new version of it off of the bonus disc included with some copies of Heathen. One of the saddest songs I've listened to in general and it's only added to thanks to Bowie's melancholy vocals. Strongly encourage people to hunt this out and listen to it. The Bloodflowers LP by The Cure is also incredibly depressing. There's some stand-out songs, but it's only eight tracks (some are over ten minutes long). It mostly seems to deal with lost loves and life's regrets and I imagine everyone can relate to that in some way. Playing it all the way through makes it all the more obvious. Beck's Sea Change LP is possibly the most sad thing I've ever listened to in my life. There really isn't the same sense of hope on this CD that is present in some of Bloodflowers' songs. Apparently he wrote it after breaking up with his long-time girlfriend. It shows heh.

Well, it can be hard to say what is a must buy because 1.) I have no clue what you have, 2.) I don't know what genres you're into and 3.) I have no idea what country you live in lol. I'll try. I apologize if you own any of these, but I guess it can be of use to anyone heh. I also agree this would be fine to make into a generic must buy thread, so long as people continue to explain why they chose games. It's gone well so far :D GameCube has quite a few games out already that I feel everyone should own. The most obvious is Metroid Prime, which is simply just an excellent game. I love the Metroid series and this game really managed to stay true to it despite everything Retro Studios had going against them. In the US, this is a Players Choice title now and I believe it's $20. The sequel also looks awesome and hits this November. Viewtiful Joe can be found for around $30 on sale most of the time and is worth the price. It's a great throw back to old-school beat 'em ups and everything it does, it does well. I believe the sequel to this hits this year as well. F-Zero GX is possibly my favorite racing game ever. I've always been a fan of futuristic racing games, but I've always preferred F-Zero because unlike games like Wipeout, it doesn't have weapons. It's just pure racing. The game has an amazing amount of tracks, it looks great, the sense of speed is unparalleled and there's just a lot to do an unlock. The vehicle creation mode is also a great addition to the series. I believe this retails for $20 or $30 now. Skies of Arcadia: Legends is hands down the best traditional RPG on the system. Of course, it has basically no decent competition yet either. This is set to change in the future with games like Tales of Symphonia coming out, but it won't change how good this game is. The GC version is decently improved over the DC one: less enemy encounters, more gold and XP per battle, faster fights and load times, improved main character models, added story points and so forth. You can find this cheap in random places because it didn't do all that well (I think in the 100,000 range). Worth the money. The game only gets better as you go along. Super Smash Bros. Melee is another great game. The game is deeper than many would lead you to believe, it looks and runs great, there's tons of customization options for multiplayer, tons to unlock, lots of extra modes, etc. The multiplayer can be a blast even if you're playing with people who've never played the game before. It has a nice pick-up-and-play quality to it, but it also rewards those who master its details. I think this is Players Choice for $20 now as well. Eternal Darkness is not for everyone. A lot of people seemingly just don't like it. I bought it the day it came out and have played through it four times just to get the bonus ending. I feel it was worth the time. Unlike other survival horror games, you're pretty much meant to massacre all the monsters in the game. The story is well told and has some nice Cthulu elements to it. I've seen this as low as $7 on clearance. Resident Evil is also quite good. Don't bother with Zero, which is dull and not much fun at all, just grab the remake of the original. It improves on the original drastically and so many changes have been made that it actually plays upon your knowledge of the first to trip you up. Taking a cue from RE3, you have a monster that hunts you down in this one as well. The backstory for that thing is pretty damn creepy heh. The game is also gorgeous. It shouldn't be that expensive anymore. Watch for the sequel in November. Super Mario Sunshine can also be found for around $20 and I feel it is worth it. Many people don't like the game and I can understand why. At the same time, it's possibly the best pure 3D platformer out there considering all the insane jumping skills the game requires. It has its problems, but I did enjoy it. It's worth it at that low price. Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is not my favorite Zelda game. It doesn't have enough dungeons, it's a bit too easy and there are some areas in the game that are downright frustrating. However, that's compared to Zelda games... compared to other games in general, I feel it's a must buy. The game looks amazing, is probably more story centric than the others before it and is just a lot of fun when it wants to be. Upcoming games I think will be must buys: Paper Mario 2, Tales of Symphonia, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime 2, Pikmin 2 (if you're interested in the original, I'd just wait for this one in August), Donkey Konga, Baten Kaitos, Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, etc., I only did GameCube for now. I'll do more in another post later.

The only people I honestly ever notice snapping at other members like that aren't even mods. I can't speak for others here, but I don't feel I treat anyone unfairly. I don't think anyone in my section does either. I think all of them are very polite about the way they go about things in the Gaming areas.

(I need to get up at 5 AM, but I can't sleep due to feeling incredibly sick...) Manic, if you want to get into Spider-man NOW, just get Marvel Knights' Spider-man. It's only on issue number two right now and you can easily find both issues at local shops. I'm not even much of a Spider-Man fan, but I bought this on the advice of others (such as Shy) and I don't regret it. Great comic thus far. However, it really throws you right into the Most of what I actually buy is from Marvel, it seems. New X-Men was amazing when Grant Morrison was onboard. Hell, I even liked the "Here Comes Tomorrow" arc that pissed off quite a few people by the time it concluded. Of course, all good things come to an end and New X-Men is pretty shoddy right now. So for my X-Men fix, I've picked up Astonshing X-Men. It just came out today (Wednesday) actually. I thought it was a pretty good start and I'm liking the retro costume designs. It's being written by Joss Whedon, who some may know from Buffy and Angel fame (Manic for example would). I also buy Runaways. I've missed a couple issues (I think it's on 15 right now), but it's still easy to grasp. It basically deals with a group of teenage friends that happen to witness the ritual sacrifice of a young girl at the hands of their parents. Their parents are part of an organization known as The Pride, which pretty much runs the entire town. Lots of stuff happens heh. It's honestly one of my favorite comics right now. X-Statix is another amazing comic, which I really can't even explain in a short amount of time. I'd say you'd be more interested in because of the strange characters than anything else. Totally worth the time. I usually buy Ultimates when they bother to release a new one. It's a good comic, it just gets frustrating when there are literally months between issues. So as far as I'm concerned, the best current Marvel comics are Runaways and X-Statix.

There's something on the site that basically says they'd be interested in putting it on consoles... but that brings its own issues. One, not just anyone can get development kits for them and two, this is infringing on a billion copyrights as it is already. So while I think they'd like that, it's obviously never going to happen heh.

He's a young kid who doesn't exactly know beforehand that he's going to be thrust into a saving the world situation. There'd be no reason for him to be all bulky. The original art does not feature muscles of that level either. I think it looks pretty awful and I hope they thin him out a bit. I first saw this a couple months ago, I think. The idea is commendable and what they have (other than Crono) looks good at this point. Somehow I doubt they'll ever be able to finish it though, but who knows. The hope for GameCube and PS2 versions that they seem to have seems pretty much impossible too.

I don't think James is referring to the pink area on the mouth. I think he's referring to the curve of the lip underneath that which does honestly make the lip look too big. -
It really depends on what modes you wish to play. If you just want to battle, it's best to own one of the GBA Pokemon games (it won't read the older ones for some reason). You can use a set of Pokemon the game gives you if you wish, but obviously they're nothing special by comparison. Picking between Ruby and Sapphire is up to you. They're the same games more or less, just with some different Pokemon to catch. I wouldn't even worry about that. The Story Mode that Julias Peach mentioned does involve stealing Pokemon, although the game refers to it as "snatching". You don't catch Pokemon normally in this mode because they're not found in the wild in the area the game takes place. You have to use Pokeballs to snatch Pokemon away from other people you're dueling. However, you can only snatch "shadow" Pokemon. After you snatch them you need to call them during battle to "open their hearts" and make them get rid of all that darkness. It sounds odd, but it's not bad in practice. Anyway, you don't really need the GBA games to fully enjoy the game, but they do help for the battle modes.

About the theatrical release... Stop questioning it. It's not happening AT ALL. It's designed to be a straight to DVD (and UMD for the PSP) release and that's that. Hell, last I've heard, they might make it so it only works on PS2s. http://www.square-enix.co.jp/dvd/ff7ac/ Official site ^^^

Well, I don't have summer vacation either, but unlike the people that don't have it, I actually have to go to school. I go all year 'round every year in college. I'm still in my Spring quarter even, which still has like five weeks left. I get two weeks off and I'm back in class for another eleven weeks. Awesome.

I don't really know how far you are in the game. The whole opening chapter is basically just a tutorial and I found that a lot of what was presented in it was a bit more simple than later in the game. The characters are just getting to know eachother, so I don't expect deep conversations... but I would say it improves. The basic enemies, however, rarely say much that's all that exciting. Some of the more major enemies are another story though.

I'm looking forward to the game. The GBA has been getting some really great tactical RPGs as far as I'm concerned. I've never played the orignal, but I do own Shining Force 3 on the Saturn. It has some problems, I suppose, but it's still a rather good game. I figured I'd post some more information in here from Atlus for those not familiar with the game.
Darksol, a mysterious traveler who has worked his way into the King of Runefaust's graces, is secretly planning to resurrect an ancient, but terrible creature, the Dark Dragon. He has convinced the King of Runefaust to invade the kingdom of Guardiana in an effort to realize his sinister plan. You play the part of a promising young warrior who washed ashore in Guardiana, but you have lost your memory and remember nothing of your past. When Guardiana is attacked, you are thrust into the role of leader and must unravel the mystery behind the Legacy of the Gods and put a stop to Dark Dragon's revival at any cost, or the world shall perish. In this classic tactical RPG, you'll control a band of up to 12 characters on the battlefield as you fight to save Guardiana, as well as the world, from the forces of evil. Customize your party from over 30 characters as you explore the world of Rune. On your journey, you?ll discover a vast array of weapons, armor and powerful magic spells which will be at your disposal. Do you have what it takes to learn the truth of your past and win the final battle? Features: Control up to 12 characters in battle from a cast of over 30! Also included are three never-before-seen characters that can help you in your fight against the Dark forces. Improved graphics feature added visual effects and character patterns. Rebalanced game play from the original version provides for a more tactically challenging and engaging experience. Unique card system allows you to collect special abilities and bonuses that could turn the tide of battle in your favor. I forgot to post the cover for the album. I think it's awesome heh. I'm a little upset that the US version will have less tracks than other countries. I'm used to it by now, but it's still really aggrivating. Europe gets two extra tracks and Japan gets one of their own. I forget the titles.

I've already gotten to hear it thanks to another forum. You won't be disappointed The band has not faltered at all in their old age heh. I'm getting it the day it comes out. Sonic Youth is too underrated these days.

It's also possible you were looking in the archives sections. Everything in them is just their for reading purposes, you can't post in those thread any longer.
