DK has to brave the dangers of the jungle to rescue his simian pals! Grab a set of DK Bongos and use them to guide Donkey Kong through wild jungle environments brimming with ravenous enemies and challenging obstacles. The control is in the bongos -- tap the bongos, do a drum roll, or even clap to control DK on the screen as you battle enormous beasts, collect bananas, get in boxing matches with rivals and ride animals and vehicles! Check back here for more information as it develops.
I'm glad to see Nintendo is making some use of the bongos for games other than Donkey Konga. This actually sounds like it could be a lot of fun, especially for two players. Who can really say until we get some impressions though heh. I think it's pretty cool that DK and friends have fur now... Not a big deal, but still a nice touch. I hope this game turns out in the gameplay department, because all of the stuff I read last year gives this game huge potential. I saw a video last year off of some German website that really showed off a lot more than any local gaming site did. I wish more people saw it as it was pretty impressive. Looks like a dog was possessed in the last shot lol. The HUD definitely needs some improvement though. Players take to the battlefield with dozens of soldiers, organizing them into small squads and directing them into the fray. While you can only command a small number of soldiers at a time, the ones not under your direct control don't just stand at ease-- they'll respond to enemy attacks and protect any areas to which they've been deployed. Now a bunch of confirmations on stuff already known... Disc type, target audience (males over 18), downloadable content, etc. They also talked some about the ports it uses for possible expansions and jacks for Ports for headphone, wifi (802.11g) controllers, IR port, linkup and power charging. It can connect to PCs, PS2s and other PSPs. Development is based on OpenGL. It has 32 MBs of memory, 4 for VRAM. UMD discs hold between 3 and 4 times what a normal CD can hold. It has stereo speakers and a 16:9 screen area. Battery life is ten hours, eight hours and two and a half hours. I have NO idea what that means, but apparently depending on if the screen is on or off, battery life is affected dramatically. I'll clear this up as soon as I know. Unlike the GBA, this has region controls. You can't play imports on it easily, if at all. Launch is next Spring. ---------------------------------- EA has announced that NBA Street, NFL Street, Tiger Woods, and NFS: Underground will be launch titles. http://www.usatoday.com/life/lifestyle/2004-05-11-nintendo-ds_x.htm This article confirms a lot of things... it also shows a first possible screen of the system. I'm not sure if it's the real deal or just a concept, but there you go. Nintendo's conference is later today, so we'll know for sure rather soon.
The DS will sell alongside today's Game Boy Advance, not replace it, according to the company. Nintendo has not announced a release date or price, though analysts predict it may sell in the $150 range. One of the two 3-inch screens is touch-sensitive and works with a stylus ? like Palms and Pocket PCs ? to control the action in some games. In one demo, players guide a toddler-age Mario as he falls from the sky by drawing clouds. Other games give multiple views of the action. The DS also has Bluetooth wireless communication to connect with other units within range for cordless competition. DS has separate slots for current Game Boy Advance cartridges and new, smaller DS game cards.
MS's press conference was tonight. The only major revelation was a confirmation of rumors: EA games will now run on Live. It's a good sign for the console, particularly because MS has decided to skip this year for most of their own sports titles. Halo 2 was also given a November 9th release date. Edit -- Sony has just announced that the PS2 is now $149. That includes the network adapter.

http://pcmovies.ign.com/pc/video/doom3d/doom3_051004_qthigh.mov Despite where the link is, this is Xbox footage of Doom 3. The video even says so at the start and end. Looks decent, but I'm still just getting the PC version if anything. It's about 75 MBs. Download is free, no Insider nonsense.

http://www.1up.com/article2/0,2053,1590101,00.asp
By David Smith 5/10/2004 With the announcement of its preliminary E3 lineup earlier this year, Bandai promised one more major Japanese animation-licensed title alongside the games it was willing to reveal at the time. If its E3 display is to be believed, that game is Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, Cavia's PlayStation 2 3D action game based on the popular Production I.G. TV series of the same name. Stand Alone Complex was published by Sony Computer Entertainment in Japan, but it makes for a better fit with Bandai's North American lineup, since Bandai's DVD publishing arm is collaborating with Manga Video on the release of the television series on DVD in North America. The first volume of the DVD release is slated to arrive July 27. We'll have more details on Bandai's plans for the game when the show kicks off later this week.
Seems like a good time to release this given the fact that Stand Alone Complex is making its way stateside very soon. I own the original GitS game, but it's made by another company. I think it did a decent job of capturing the feel of the manga, although it was a rather average game overall. Fuchikomas were still cool though. At the very least, I'll give this a rent. I hope they take care with the localizing of it.

I went into this movie with such low expectations that I really didn't hate it as much as I expected. It is by no means a good film, but I didn't hate it as much as I figured I would based on previews and impressions thus far. It probably helped that I saw it at 12:15 AM on Friday too. Being fully awake probably brings out this movie's problems a bit more.
In terms of the effects... they weren't awful, but they aren't the best either. The main issue is that they were just overused. There were subtle uses of them that worked just fine and I actually thought Mr. Hyde was pulled off surprisingly well for a such a large, fullly CG character. However, the vampires and everything else were just really overused. The acting was outright terrible. While Hugh Jackman wasn't bad, I almost got the impression that he knew how ****** this movie was. He didn't seem to be all that interested in anything he did in it. Everyone with an accent was just awful, particularly the brides. The story was really stupid, I have to admit. The whole idea of baby vampires like that made little sense to me... especially considering that the babies looked more like little devils than anything I'd ever associated with a vampire. Hell, even the brides looked more like harpies than vampires, but whatever. The whole good boy Frankenstein thing wasn't that bad... what was, was the fact that the guy was completely coherant and spoke in better English than most of the townspeople. I don't know what was up with that. There's also very little explanation as to why Frankenstein is the "key to life" and why he'd be any more useful than anything else. I mean, I came up with my own reasons as to why it would make sense, but the movie is completely devoid of them. And that's kind of the problem, I guess. You're stuck with so many nonsensical ideas in this film and things that simply do not jive with other literature on these characters. So much that you're stuck connecting dots yourself, trying vainly to form some sort of normal storyline. Oh well.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 10, 2004--Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, today announced that Ubisoft's Montreal studio is currently developing Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell(R) 3 (Working Title), the next installment in the now-legendary Splinter Cell(R) franchise. The Splinter Cell(R) titles have consistently received some of industry's highest-ever review scores and most prestigious awards, and have sold, cumulatively, more than 6 million copies worldwide. Splinter Cell(R) 3 will be shown for the first time ever in a theater-style demo at Ubisoft's E3 booth -- #1046 in the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center, and is scheduled for a PC launch in late 2004. Details on other platforms will be forthcoming. With Splinter Cell(R) 3, Ubisoft's celebrated Montreal development studio returns to the legendary Splinter Cell(R) franchise, for an action gaming breakthrough. With the first Splinter Cell(R), Ubisoft redefined stealth action and set new standards for dynamic lighting; Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell(R) Pandora Tomorrow delivered an online multiplayer experience that awed even jaded gamers, and Splinter Cell(R) 3 will continue the tradition of pushing the interactive and technological possibilities of video gaming. It will offer the best graphics in this generation of games, a completely immersive and interactive environment, innovative gameplay and a completely unique collaborative multiplayer experience. Splinter Cell(R) 3's features - all courtesy of cutting edge visual and sound technologies - will set an industry benchmark once again. "With Splinter Cell(R) 3, the series evolves to give gamers a new kind of gameplay that ensures the Splinter Cell franchise will continue to set standards for the industry," said Yves Guillemot, President and CEO of Ubisoft. "We expect Splinter Cell(R) 3 to be the best-looking game on any platform, period, thanks to Ubisoft's incredible command of the latest technologies and visionary creativity - after all, we created the first Splinter Cell(R), which completely redefined stealth action." About Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell(R) 3 The year is 2008. Information Warfare has evolved into the most dangerous threat to global stability. You are Sam Fisher, Third Echelon's most skilled Splinter Cell(R) operative. You are assigned to execute a hazardous series of operations to investigate and eliminate a new source of information attacks, originating in North Korea. To succeed, you will employ a host of unconventional counterintelligence activities to gather intel, disrupt enemy operations and neutralize adversary targets. As Information Warfare evolves, so must the Splinter Cell(R). You must penetrate deeper into hostile territory and operate undetected, closer to the enemy than ever before. At your disposal is a lethal array of tactics ranging from Combat Knife techniques, experimental prototype weapons skills, and more radical hand-to-hand techniques such as the Inverted Chokehold. Experience the thrill of acting as a lone operative fighting tomorrow's threats in the field, and of cooperating online with a partner to accomplish crucial missions. Die in action, and the free world dies with you. KEY GAMEPLAY FEATURES -- DEADLY AGILITY: Incredibly complete and fluid variety of moves including athletic and stealth moves, as well as stealth kills -- AS GOOD AS REAL: Never-before-seen graphics technology offers the best visuals ever to appear on any platform. Advanced physics engine allows rag doll physics, particle effects and perfect interaction with the environment -- REAL WEAPONS OF TOMORROW: The most complete arsenal of weapons and gadgets, from the combat knife to experimental prototype combat systems -- AMAZING REPLAYABILITY: Totally open level design with multipaths and optional secondary objectives -- ULTIMATE CHALLENGE: Intelligent all-new A.I. with personal attributes, natural behavior where non-playable-characters are aware of their environment and remember past events -- CO-OP STEALTH: Play multiplayer with a friend and coordinate your infiltration in an all new multiplayer challenge -- THRILLING SCENARIO: Gut-wrenching in-game sequences. Gripping plot with multiple twists and turns
Apparently the team has eben working on this specific game since the original Splinter Cell wrapped up development. While great on a technical level, I really am not too fond of the look of the characters, but that's me. I think it's a bit soon to announce this as well... especially considering the latest in the series hasn't even hit all the platforms yet. http://www.1up.com/article2/0,2053,1590066,00.asp
While Square Enix announced almost all of its lineup prior to E3, its under-construction E3 display features one more game left to unveil. A rolling trailer features Samurai Legend Musashi, a PlayStation 2 sequel to the quirky PlayStation action-RPG Brave Fencer Musashi. The PS2 sequel features a redesigned hero with baggy pants, a tight tank top, twin swords, and if you could imagine such after checking out the original Tetsuya Nomura-designed Musashi, even bigger hair. The 21st-century Musashi looks a little less traditional and a lot more attitudinal than his 32-bit ancestor. His game looks a fair bit more impressive as well, with sharply outlined toon-shaded graphics accentuating Nomura's character designs (though he hasn't been officially confirmed as the artist behind the new game, his stamp is all over both the heroes and monsters). The trailer features many environments far larger than what we saw in the first Musashi, with more of a Jak II scale to the bigger areas. Musashi's battles include some cool feats of character animation, meanwhile, like an enemy suddenly transmuting to burning ash, which blows away leaving his skeleton behind. We'll have more details on Samurai Legend Musashi from Square Enix's press conference later tonight. Look forward to it.
http://common.ziffdavisinternet.com/util_get_image/6/0,1311,sz=1&i=69048,00.jpg http://common.ziffdavisinternet.com/util_get_image/6/0,1311,sz=1&i=69049,00.jpg http://common.ziffdavisinternet.com/util_get_image/6/0,1311,sz=1&i=69050,00.jpg http://common.ziffdavisinternet.com/util_get_image/6/0,1311,sz=1&i=69051,00.jpg Sounds great. I'll post any new information in here later. Square's conference is in a bit, apparently.

I'm looking forward to Halo 2. Not massively, mind you, as I am not very fond of the original. However, last years E3 video of the game was absolutely amazing. If they can keep events like that happen over the course of the game I'll be really impressed. I'd buy it the day it came out. Doom 3... I can't say I care. I'm not too fond of the graphical style (everything looks like latex) and I think the creature designs are pretty lame overall. The game could be fun, but I don't know yet. In my mind, id makes better engines than they do games. I'm more excited to see what other teams can do with this engine than what id can do with Doom3. That's me though. Half Life 2 is my most anticipated of all of these games. Mostly just because I really loved the first. I'd just get the second two for my PC though. My graphics card and computer can handle them both well. The Xbox port of Doom 3 is looking pretty scaled back so far.
I had posted this in the MyO2 Wishlist thread, but that's the wrong thread for probs, isn't it? lol. I was wondering if users could be given the ability to delete comments from their MyOs? I swear I've done it before on my own site way back when I still utilized the comments system there instead of my own.

Well, apparently Prince of Persia finally sold rather well across all three platforms despite all news to the contrary (almost two and a half million copies total). So, Ubisoft Montreal is preparing a sequel. I've still not gotten to play more than five minutes of the first game, although I would really like to. The biggest complaint I heard about the game was over the apparently crappy fighting engine. Ubisoft is addressing this by creating something they call a "freeform" fighting system. Apparently this means you can easily string together any move into an attack. According to IGN: "it will be possible to move from a swipe to a stab to a summersault to a rail slide, or heel grab, or whatever."
Ubi is keeping us quiet on many of the other wonderful details regarding this game, hence no explanation as to how the other minor faults of the original will be remedied, but the press release does offer some addition details. Our hero, the mighty Prince, will venture deep into the "infernal core of a cursed island stronghold harboring mankind's greatest fears" and will eventually hone his previously established time manipulation skills to "control the Ravages of Time." We also know that this sequel's theme will be much darker than the original and the hardened Prince's quest revolves around him "defying a preordained death." Sweetness.
Otherwise, the game looks great from a graphical standpoint. Certainly more so than the orginal game from what I've played on Xbox. By the way, Prince of Persia 2 is just the working title. Those who keep up with the series should know that a PoP2 already exists... I'm assuming they'll just call this Prince of Persia: (insert subtitle here), like the last one.

Naming a pet after other people's suggestions never works out. I've had pet rats and they were seriously the best pets I've ever had. Quiet, clean, nice. They didn't bite whatsoever and after a week they were totally cage trained. I'd let them out and they'd just sit on my head or my shoulder or my computer desk and that was that. I named them Pogo and Twiggy. Twiggy died early on, but she was always sickly. Pogo lived quite a bit longer. Twiggy was more of the brown, sewer rat variety, but Pogo was white with black spots. Like a cow. Awesome animals. So anyway, taking some name someone mentions just because it sounds decent never works out well. It's your pet, you should name it.

The ninja guy is from FFV. Hell it even says so right in front of him heh. Word has it that this dungeon is supposed to be as big as the rest of the areas in the game put together. Contains its own towns, shops, inns and so forth. Pretty insane.

Stupid Cure sites heh. Still an awesome lineup. The second stage has some seriously good stuff... Muse, Cursive AND Cooper Temple Clause? Wonderful. I just hope they all play here on the Chicago date lol.
I don't think anything good is coming of this at all. From now on out, this thread is just about updates to VF Cyber Generation. Screw the stupid arguing.
I agree. I think this has run its course. If people feel there is more to say, PM or go to myOtakus or whatever else. This is starting to get beyond what it should, I think. There's too much potential for further debasement of this thread. Everyone, just talk about the game that this thread was made for in the first place.

New images, I hosted them elsewhere so they can be seen. I didn't know the last host would remove theirs. These shots show a new dungeon that apparently lets you fight bosses from different games in the FF series. People may recognize some of them. I am surprised no one has posted about this series. This is an excellent write-up. I tried this out way back and quite honestly I was bored out of my mind. It was hard to be excited about Ghost in the Shell at the time, mostly because I had been picking up the new GitS manga that was largely disappointing. Eventually I stopped myself with bothering because I was purchasing it just for the art. I don't know. I think I just am not fond of watching things on my computer, especially things I really need to pay attention to. I'm going to be giving it another shot once it hits DVD here in the US because I really don't think I gave it enough of a chance. I love Shirow related material and the original GitS manga is still among my favorites.

They never released any official prices. Everything that has been said by developers making games for the system, analysts and those in the industry are pointing towards $250 to $300 for the thing. There's no way it will be as cheap as that considering what it does. Games apparently might reach up to $50, which makes sense given the development costs involved if it can do games comparable to a PS2 like claimed.
