I'll see it eventually. The first one had its moments, but I'm not sure about this one yet. At the very least, it's production time guarantees that the jokes won't be a few years outdated by the time it hits the theaters, unlike the last one.

http://www.adr.com/adr?page=adrnews&formtype=4&level=C&prod=BT&mdate=20040505&mseq=9791
AWSJ(5/6) Sony To Unveil `PSP' Gadget; Buzz Isn't All Good (Dow Jones News Service) Updated: Wednesday, May 05, 2004 05:31PM ET (From THE ASIAN WALL STREET JOURNAL) By Phred Dvorak Tokyo -- SONY CORP., maker of PlayStation game machines, next week is expected to unveil what is arguably this year's most hotly anticipated video-game product: a hand-held player for games, videos and music. Game makers hope Sony's PSP, whose name is derived from "PlayStation Portable," will attract more users to a market Nintendo Co.'s Game Boy has long cornered. Consumer-electronics companies wonder how the PSP will stack up against Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod, and a host of portable media players starting to hit retail stores. Sony -- along with its games mastermind Ken Kutaragi -- has a huge strategic stake in getting the "Walkman of the 21st century" -- as Mr. Kutaragi has dubbed it -- right. The PSP is scheduled to go on sale at the end of the year in Japan and early next year in the U.S. But only days before the prototype's expected May 11 debut ahead of the E3 video-game show in Los Angeles, not all the buzz is happy. Many big video-game creators have started developing games for the machine, but some say they have too little information to really get going. As of late April, many still hadn't received the final development kit due out this spring, as well as some basic specifications including memory size and projected price. What's more, Sony's decision to put out a machine that plays movies as well as games has some creators scratching their heads. "Will it be a game machine or a video Walkman?" asks Michihiro Sasaki, general manager of corporate strategy at Japanese video-game maker Square Enix Co. "We're still not sure what Sony wants to do with it -- that's a problem." Mr. Sasaki says Square Enix, known for its Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy games, eventually hopes to provide content for the PSP but wants to hear more about the PSP's business model before deciding what to prepare. Game makers' uneasiness underscores the challenges Sony faces as it pushes ahead with a bold strategy of marrying video games with its core business of consumer electronics. Under Mr. Kutaragi, the creator of the PlayStation who was promoted last year to executive deputy president, that strategy is supposed to inject life into Sony's sluggish electronics business by bringing some of the style and raw processing power of the game machines into television sets and video players. Sony said during its earnings announcement last week that it aims to ship three million PSP machines in 2004, but it hasn't disclosed its price. If crossover gadgets such as the PSP are successful, that could give Sony an advantage in the battle with companies such as Microsoft Corp. over whose technologies will rule the home theaters and Walkmans of the future. Sony is hard at work on another crossover product: the successor to its No. 1-selling PlayStation 2 console, which is expected out in 2005 or 2006. Microsoft, which has its own Xbox console and also is readying a next-generation machine, is trying to maneuver its software to the center of a home-entertainment network that would handle games, movies and music. Still, some game developers worry that it may be hard to balance competing technical demands -- as well as figure out the price and audience -- for a gadget that combines the functions of a Walkman, video player and game machine. Sony's latest game-electronics combo, a DVD recorder called the PSX that doubles as a PlayStation 2, hasn't sold as well in Japan as the company hoped it would, as consumers puzzled over whether it was a game console or a home-electronics device. Sony has said it will sell the PSX in the U.S. and Europe sometime this year. "It would be better if [the PSP] were just a game machine," says Kazumi Kitaue, executive in charge of video games at Konami Corp., which puts out the popular Metal Gear Solid series. "It's silly to talk about watching movies anywhere anytime; you want to concentrate." Mr. Kitaue says that Konami has started developing games for the PSP and that he has high hopes for the machine. But he worries that the product release could be delayed in Japan -- as it was in the U.S. Initially, at least, the PSP's big rival probably won't be portable video players or iPods, but rather, Nintendo hand-helds. Nintendo is planning its own new portable machine that will go on sale around the same time as the PSP. But compared with Nintendo's current top-end model, the Game Boy Advance SP, PSP specifications released so far suggest that it will be a much more powerful machine with a bigger, higher-resolution screen. The PSP will play games and movies stored on a new kind of optical disc that holds 1.8 gigabytes of data -- several times more than the Game Boy's cartridges. Mr. Kitaue and other game developers expect the PSP to attract gamers older than the teens and preteens who commonly buy the Game Boy. That is an important bonus for many game developers -- particularly in Japan -- which are being pinched by shrinking video-game markets and rising development costs. Besides Konami, big-name game publishers such as Sega Corp., Namco Ltd. and Koei Co. of Japan, as well as Electronic Arts Inc. of the U.S., say they are developing PSP games, although they won't say whether they will have demos ready to show by next week's E3 debut. Despite misgivings of some game creators, Sony insists the PSP is on schedule. Masayuki Chatani, chief technology officer for Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., Sony's video-game arm, says he is confident that the games-movies-music idea will fly, pointing to the success of the DVD-playing PlayStation 2. "After all, if you were to do it all separately, you'd need three different machines," Mr. Chatani says. (END) Dow Jones Newswires 05-05-04 1731ET
Recent developments have been really strange. In addition to the press releases I posted here and in the DS thread, general other news and information has made it seem as though the DS is where developers are interested in going and the PSP still has its own issues. Strangely, I figured it would be the other way around.

Press releases:
New Nintendo DS Attracts Worldwide Developer Interest; Major Publishers Create Games for Industry's Most Innovative Device E3Expo 2004 REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 6, 2004--The video game industry's biggest and best game developers are lining up to be the first to create innovative content for Nintendo's upcoming dual-screen hand-held innovation, code-named Nintendo DS. "Nintendo DS is going to push hand-held technology to uncharted territories," says Yves Blehaut, senior vice president of Atari. "It's going to energize both developers and consumers with amazing new game mechanics and new game design. Once more, Nintendo leads the way with something unexpected and totally innovative." To date, more than 100 companies worldwide have received software development kits and are planning games for Nintendo DS, which for the first time offers gamers two separate perspectives on the action. Companies include THQ, Electronic Arts, Activision, Atari, Ubisoft, Majesco, Capcom, Sega, Konami, Hudson Soft, Namco, Bandai, Koei and Square Enix, to name a few. "The Nintendo dual screen is something that we're really excited about developing for," says Nick Earl, vice president and general manager of Electronic Arts. "It's very innovative, which is classic Nintendo." Nintendo DS will revolutionize how people approach, perceive and enjoy video games, while including additional options that enhance the game-play experience. "It's exciting to see so many publishers are as inspired about the Nintendo DS as we are," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "The creative contributions of the publishers will reinforce Nintendo's reputation as the industry's leader in innovation." In effect, thanks to the success of the wildly popular Game Boy(R) franchise, Nintendo owns the current hand-held video game market: The Game Boy line has sold more than 168 million units worldwide during the past 15 years. And with the introduction of the revolutionary Nintendo DS, Nintendo's dominance is certain to continue in the future. The Nintendo DS will be unveiled at the 2004 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), May 12 to May 14 in Los Angeles. The Nintendo DS remains on track to launch before the end of the year.

Ironic that you use Signs as an example in the original post, when he's the same guy who's doing The Village, as well!
I think that was her point in naming the film in the first place.
It's not just you; that is a fact. ;) Of course there are us who don't think "fruity" is a bad thing at all. :toothy: I reckon the main reason FF-series doesn't have macho musclemen-type heroes is that the game designers are doing their best to avoid stereotypes - although FF-heroes are beginning to be a stereotype of their own. If you haven't noticed, all the main heroes have quite a personality (at least in the beginning of the games), and even features that aren't that likeable (such as Tidus being a whiner, Cloud being a heartless biatche, Squall having this "I don't care if the world explodes"-attitude...). But hey, isn't that what makes them so appealing? ;) Who can say what our newest friend Vaan will turn out to be?
Reading interviews, the main reason the males look so effeminate is simply because Japanese fans like that look. In fact, they've said that the original designs of the main character was even more feminine to begin with. Given that, I doubt it's some great plan to avoid stereotypes. It's just a consumer based decision. Anyway - http://gamespot.com/news/2004/05/06/news_6095732.html TOKYO--Square Enix announced today that Final Fantasy XII will be delayed from its originally scheduled summer 2004 launch in Japan. Gamers across the Pacific will now have to wait until sometime between winter 2004 and spring 2005, the new time period in which Square Enix is aiming to release the title. "We have decided to change the release period in order to improve the quality of Final Fantasy XII so that it will be able to satisfy the needs of our customers even more,' commented Square Enix in a press release. Doesn't matter to me. Between Baten Kaitos, Tales of Symphonia, Paper Mario, Shin Megami Tensei 3, Star Ocean 3, Phantom Brave and god knows what else, I'm set with RPGs for awhile lol.

I was going to ressurect the old thread I made for this band... but I didn't realize I posted it way back in November. I figured I'd just make a new one instead of bumping up something that old. Instead of getting into what makes The Cure so great, I figured I'd just talk about the recent news involving them. They already reformed to play at Coachella rather recently. They also appeared on Leno to debut their new song "The End of the World", which is going to be on their upcoming CD entitled simply "The Cure". It's an all new, 14 track album that's due out this June on the 29th. The single is out on radio waves now and a website is putting an official download of it up tomorrow. I'll edit that into here when it's up. Here is the tentative track list for "The Cure": "Lost" "Labyrinths" (working title) "Before 3" (working title) "Truth Goodness and Beauty" "The End of the World" "I Don't Know What's Going On" "Taking Off" "Anniversary" "This Morning "Us or Them" "Precious Advise" (working title) "Jason #3" (working title) "The Promise" "Going Nowhere" More on the album: http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000500179 The Cure is also gearing up for Curefest this summer. It will be officially announced this coming Monday, but bands are already supposedly confirmed for it according to prominant Cure fan sites... AFI and Mogwai are apparently definite and Rapture, Interpol and Muse are all still rumored. Should be awesome however it turns out.

I have iFrames built into my page and they work just fine. I don't use those goofy image based design ones you speak of though.

I've only read random things about the film. Some of it from people who have supposedly seen the film. If what they say is true, I'm not expecting much at all from the ending... which is too bad. But I'm sure I'll see the movie anyway. It should have some good moments. Hell, I don't like Signs at all and it had its good parts.

After last year's E3, Pikmin 2 kind of just slipped under the radar. Impressions of the game really weren't all that positive, saying it was simply more of the same. The game recently reappeared on the scene and has since been released in Japan. Apparently the game overcame its issues because impressions on it have been very positive, even from outlets that were rather negative about the game in the past (IGNCube, for example). In Pikmin 2 you still play as Captain Olimar. Only this time he goes back to the Pikmin planet because his business is quickly losing money. His plan is to have the Pikmin help him collect valuable artifacts that he can sell so he can get back in the green. His friend Louie joins him on this quest. When you and Louie are together, the player can control them simultaneously or seperately. There are puzzles that require Olimar and Louie to be in different places at the same time, for example. I think this alone could add quite a bit to the gameplay. Louie is apparently also smart enough to help with things on his own... such as pulling Pikmin out of the ground for you once they shoot from an Onion. The game has the same red, yellow and blue Pikmin with the same uses as before (although the yellow ones are immune to electricty now). However, there are two new varieties as well. First up are the huge (comparatively lol), purple Pikmin. They are several times more powerful than standard Pikmin in both fights and lifting. One purple Pikmin is equal to ten normal ones when it comes to lifting things. The other new type is the white Pikmin. White Pikmin are poisonous. If they are eaten by an enemy bad things result. Their red eyes glow, enabling them to find hidden treasures for Olimar and Louie. They're also smaller and faster than standard Pikmin. White and purple Pikmin are not spawned from Onions. They come from flowers. You have to throw a standard Pikmin into these special flowers and the corresponding Pikmin will come back out. If you remember those weird ladybug looking creatures from the first one, they're back. I was reading impressions about the game and came across some information I thought was really cool...
The game still contains adult and babies of this monster. The difference here is that if you kill the mother bug, the babies follow you instead. Basically, you now have a bunch of little bugs that will help you attack and such heh.
Other features: - Competitive and co-op two player modes. - Better graphics (Pikmin seem to have slightly higher polygon counts and have more idle animations. Ssome of the new items have great texturing) - Levels feature huge dungeons. The dungeons themselves are random and contain lots of treasures and strong enemies. You cannot get new Pikmin while in these dungeons unless you leave entirely. Luckily the game lets you save after each floor. - There is no day limit anymore. - The game features little GBA bonus games that can be gotten by using a GBA/GC cable. It's also compatible with the E-Reader and comes with a few cards for it. Here's some shots: Anyone else looking forward to this? It's due in August in the US.

Atlus had finally announced that they are brining SMT3 to the States this past April. About freaking time. People were concerned it wouldn't be localized, but it turns out that Atlus waited to translate the Japanese "Director's Cut" of the game which features enhancements and the inclusion of Capcom's Dante from Devil May Cry as one of the demons. What is this game? Well, it's the third main game in a very popular RPG series in Japan. None of the previous SMT games have made it to the US, although you can get fan translations online. However, I'm sure some people here are familiar with the Persona series on the original Playstation. Persona is a SMT spin-off. The original Persona is hit or miss, but Persona 2 is quite possibly my favorite Playstation game. So I'm really looking forward to this one. SMT is interesting in a few ways... The first being that the game has very religion heavy subject matter. It deals with Heaven and Hell straight out. In one of the previous titles, the boss of the game was actually God himself. Obviously it's kind of in a league of its own in this sense heh. The game is also known for allowing you to take different paths depending on your alignment -- good and evil, basically. It greatly affects the storyline and isn't just a gimmick like KotOR is, by comparison. Anyway, here's some little facts about the game from Atlus: - Yesterday's foe is today's ally! Persuade over 100 different demons to join your party. Some demons may evolve into new forms on their own or fuse them to form even more powerful demons. - Customize your character with Magatama, living parasites that grant the host demonic powers! - Depending on the choices you make, youll follow one of several ideologies which will ultimately determine the fate of the entire world! - Special guest appearance by Dante, from Capcom's Devil May Cry series. Will he become your most feared enemy or your greatest ally? - Over 50 hours of gameplay! The game is set to come out in Fall of 2004 and will be shown at E3. Japanese impressions of the games release months back were incredibly positive and I only expect good things. Watch this game if you're interested in a really good and deep RPG. As you can see from the shots, the game goes for a somewhat cel-shading reminiscent style. It looks great in motion in particular. Well, I'm bringing this back due to new screens. This game looks amazing in my opinion. It is absolutely oozing with style. Can't wait for E3.
It seems that Sega are just developing random stuff in order to survive in the competitive market. Though the game is incredibly deep and much credited, it is getting old and gamers (not hardcore to say the least) want to see something new. With Namco having announced Tekken 5, along with the release of their latest addition, "Nina", where you take the role of Nina Williams in a fierce beat 'em up, just as in Tekken Force mode, Sega will suffer along the line.
I am confused. Sega is in dire straits because they've made about four different VF games over a decade, whereas Namco is winning out because they're making yet another Tekken and a spin-off? VF: CG, while strange, is the only somewhat original game mentioned in this thread so far. This game is the Virtua Fighter RPG that Yu Suzuki first mentioned so long ago. Obviously it's different than most people expect, but I suggest people read about it before they write it off. I've been given nothing but the impression from the posts here that no one knows anything about the game. I should also say that SC2 isn't the best selling 3D fighter of this generation and VF4 has done better than any other game in the series, not to mention garnishing some of the best reviews as well. The game did very well. As for Sciros's comments about being able to beat decent players at VF by button mashing... I'd have to suggest the idea that these people you are playing against really aren't that good in the first place. Sure doesn't sound like it.

I know random girls who like games. None of them ever seem to be ones I manage to become good friends with and only one girl I've dated was even remotely interested in games. As much as I'd like having a good gaming session with a girlfriend, it's yet to happen. However, I've played games with enough girls that just aren't into them much to figure out what is good to start them off with and what is not. Most girls who don't know much about games don't seem to care about graphics whatsoever. They simply want something they can pick up and play and do well at on their first try. I've found that if a game seems too complicated for someone to get it from the start, they lose all interest in it. That doesn't mean it cannot get deeper as it progresses, but it needs to be intuitive. I've had more luck with girls managing to play Pac-Man or Freeway (you're a chicken and you run across the highway dodging cars - Atari 2600 game) than I have with much of anything recent. 3D seems to throw off a lot of people if they're not used to games in that dimension. And I realize I made some sweeping generalizations in my post here, but that's just based on my experiences.
-
In terms of he attractiveness, I've never really noticed it either. Sure, she looks decent, but I think most people's interest with her mainly lies in the fact that she is a celebrity. I see dozens of more attractive women on a constant basis just walking down the street. Without her make-up and such, I'd say she's not really even that attractive in the first place... at least not to me.
-
Well, I don't really know what one could expect them to do to the SP other than change its appearance. It's not as though they can just make a new layout and design for the thing altogether. It wouldn't make sense from a business, use or consumer perspective. It would just confuse people into thinking it was something else entirely. Also, Nintendo has never officially put any of these games on a Game Boy cartridge (other than Super Mario Bros. in SMB DX), so I'm not sure what games you have seen. I'd assume they were bootlegs.
-
I'd be more excited about this thing if it didn't look like a platinum SP with a vinyl sticker thrown on top. It does look cool though. I'm also really disappointed by Nintendo's attempt to bring these games to the GBA. In Japan, the games game in really cool mini-Famicom boxes and the carts were special colors. It was a cool little nostalgic touch. Here we get none of that. It's the old NES art thrown on the standard (ugly, in my opinion) GBA SP box art. I think these are a bit overpriced myself, although Zelda is attractive lol.

While I don't care about this thread and find it ridiculous enough on its own... I have to say that the sound of any of Britney's songs doesn't really reflect her talents in any way. She's a personality, she doesn't compose the songs. The producers and such lay down the beats and compose the music to fit with the lyrics (that most likely were written by someone else as well). She has no real bearing on the beats for Toxic or any other song that people might find catchy. Her record sales have gone down since her image change anyway. She's not as big as she was when she had a more "clean" image years back. It's hard to say if it's because of the image change or just a lowered amount of interested over the years. Who knows.

http://www.ffxionline.net/forum/stuff/munba/ff12/ff12_music.zip Music sample from the game. Hitoshi Sakimoto is doing the music this time around. Probably best known for the FF Tactics (and, I believe, Vagrant Story) music.

1.) I've cheated. I really think that everyone has, whether it was intentional or not. I haven't for a very long time. I honestly can't remember when it was last, but I definitely have. Probably in gradeschool. I went through a phase where I didn't care about school work whatsoever. I was apathetic and didn't really concern myself with it. A lot of things were going on back then. My father died, my mom remarried, we were thrown into a Catholic school... I guess it was my way of "lashing out", for lack of better words. It's not really an excuse as I made my own decisions through it all, it's just how it was. 2.) This isn't answerable on any simple level. It's totally subjective. I do think people are more likely to cheat if they knew they wouldn't get caught... really, isn't the point of cheating to generally get away with it? Seems like a pointless question honestly lol. 3.) GPA now, integrity later. I don't cheat, but that's simply because I don't feel I need to. I do very well on tests and any actual homework I get is nearly completely creative design based. You just can't cheat on it. You're either good or you're not. Plus, I've not really come across anyone that would be worth copying off of in the first place. GPA is incredibly important. I'm not so sure that I'd sacrifice my core values for GPA, though. If I was in dire straits and I needed a better grade than I knew I could achieve, then I'd do what I have to to get that grade. This is hypothetical. It hasn't happened, but I'm sure I'd have no real qualms in doing it. When I'm out of school and not sacrificing my own money for this education, it will be another story. I'm not a cheat and I am willing to work for what I have. I don't like to use people and I don't like to be used either. I figure that I'll have plenty of time to make up for such things in the future. I have my own principles and there are things I won't give into... but I think most people will do what they can to overcome the systems in place if they have little other choice. Of course, if they did what they were supposed to, they'd most likely not be in that position in the first place.

Are you calling Azurewolf a mome? Because by the very definition of the word, it doesn't even make sense. He's obviously proven he isn't an idiot. Did you just get this from an e-mail forward or something? That's sure what it looks like. The way I see it, you posted a stupid thread and you deserve any condescending comments you get in return. I am not quite sure why you think you now have the ability to talk down to people over this. There's no need for your sarcasm.

I read about him being another Van Helsing awhile back and that idea alone made me think even less of this film. I didn't think that was possible. I've been reading impressions from people who have seen screenings of this movie and it's been pretty much universally panned. The whole setup makes next to zero sense and you can just tell they were straining to find reasons to include all three Universal classic monsters in the film.
Dracula wants to bring his children to life, but apparently can only do so with lightning that travels through Frankenstein's monster for some bizarre reason... or some crap.
While I once thought this would be a decent, mindless action flick that I'd blow $2 on at the cheap theater here... I now am just not interested whatsoever.

The unfortunate thing about Rammstein is that most people in this country know nothing of their work outside of Sehnsucht. While that it is a good CD, it's far from their best. Their previous releases were more impressive and I personally think Mutter, which was released here, is better as well. What I think is cool about Rammstein is that their music really reflects German efficiency. Everything about them seems so calculated and thought out. There's nothing randomly placed in a song. You're given the impression that things are how they are for a reason and not simply "because it sounds good". Their live shows also reflect this. Despite being chaotic in many senses, it's a very controlled chaos... I realize that's contradicting, but it makes sense if you've seen them lol.
-
The McDonald's "I'm Loving It!" commercials produce mixed emotions from me. First is confusion because I don't know how anyone could come up with this horrible campaign. Then comes disgust when I hear the lyrics to the songs they write for each separate commercial involved. Then comes insanity because they're played constantly, make no sense and just make me want to gouge my eyes out and melt my ears shut with blow torches. I reallly don't like them. The KFC "kitchen" commercials come in second. The one with the bug-eyed lady going "kitchen strips!!" twenty times is probably the worst offender. I mute it everytime it comes on.

Anyway, Nintendo.com has updated with some new information on the game. It will apparently be called Metroid Prime: Echoes, at least at this point.
In this highly anticipated sequel to Metroid Prime, become the bounty hunter behind the visor once more and travel to a planet torn into light and darkness. Hunted by a mysterious entity and a warring race called the Ing, Samus Aran must explore the light and dark worlds of this doomed planet to discover secrets and augment her suit's weapons and abilities. And now, for the first time in the history of the celebrated Metroid franchise, up to four players can battle each other as they search for weapons, grapple across ceilings, and turn into Morph Balls to make their escapes.
I'm hoping for some decent screens of this game, but the ones Nintendo.com has provided are certainly far better than what is out there now. These are still artifacted and obviously resized, among other issues. It doesn't seem much different in graphical prowress from the first, but I've found that if you directly compare these shots to ones from the original, there is a noticable improvement. I would really like to see this game in motion though, as I think even the original isn't done much justice by screens. The multiplayer shot looks more fabricated than I was originally led to believe by the old blurry shots. If you compare the views of the different players, the characters seem to be in odd places and it doesn't match up. I am figuring that's just a shot to show you what to expect.
