Dillemma?!?!?!?! I've never seen one of those! .. ... Oh, dilemma
Man, nothing is quite better than someone getting owned by botching their attempt to own someone else. Bam! Man, that made my day lol. Anyway. Either trust him and get over something that's obviously not important or you're going to mess things up with something unimportant. I'm basically in agreement with Harry. You're married to this guy and are having his baby. You're obviously at a higher place than any random girl he'd talk to online. I wouldn't concern myself over it.

I'm going to see it, only to see what they why they're "remaking" a classic... although I say that loosely considering the large amounts of script changes and modernization it is going through. I guess it's best to look at this as a "reimagining" of the original, as Tim Burton did with his version of Planet of the Apes. It's his word, not mine lol. This movie already had a proper remake in 1990 as it was. So I'm glad they're not just remaking the same thing all over again. Something fresh is always good. Apparently they're taking the 28 Days Later approach with this, considering how agile the zombies are. The mall is a key area aswell, just like in the original. It still seems decent. If you've not seen the original Dawn of the Dead, do yourself a favor and get familiar with George Romero's zombie films. He basically has defined what zombies have been in movies and games for the past few decades. So I'm interested. Dawn of the Dead can really only be compared to Resident Evil because that's where most of RE's ideas came from in the first place.

The D circle on the left looks really out of place. It doesn't really fit with your background (I assume those are some sort of cables or something, but they kind of look like licorice ropes) or the text on the right

Emo is confusing because some people try to apply any mellow, emotional band to the genre. Emo is short for "emotional" and that by itself is rather vague sounding. As amibasuki said, you're not emo just because you sing about lovey type stuff. I wouldn't consider Good Charlotte to be emo. I'd consider them to be more of a mall punk band, honestly. There's different types of emo too. The lowkey stuff that most people think of and then the more aggressive, screamy stuff. Emo, emocore, hardcore emo, post-emo... and then getting into some indie bands. There's a lot out there. Fugazi is sometimes called emocore, although I think of them as post-punk. There's a mix in their sound. Sunny Day Real Estate is one of the bigger emo bands, already mentioned by Olga. I know several people who think they're basically the height of it. There's also some random indie-ish bands like Death Cab for Cutie, Built to Spill and Bright Eyes that could probably fit in there. Maybe lol. There's of course the poppy versions of this too, which is what you're most likely to hear on the radio or MTV currently. Same with poppy punk. I don't really care for emo in general though, so that's about all I can say about it heh.
I'm just curious: Could the same be said for anime in Japan? Or is it more... socially accepted, so to say? Does everyone think that it's 'just for kids'? Should I stop asking questions now and let you guys reply? :D
The obvious answer is "no", considering the massive amounts of animation created there that is aimed towards more mature audiences. Obviously there are still those that are aimed at children, but there isn't really a stereotype for it like the one that exists in the US. Also, this is unrelated, but could you remove some of those dashes from your signature? They're throwing off the page layout heh.
-
I think I'm mostly done with the main page now. I've figured out all the animations I want to do (mostly involving stars, which will also be used in the other pages to different extents). I just have to talk to the teacher because I don't know what to do about logo placement. I need ideas heh. Anyway, I'm working on the News page now. I applied the first page's design to a Navigation animation thingy that I stuck on the bottom left. The figure on the right is Kim Deal bending over as she plays her bass. I'm trying to not make this so complex, because if I do, it's just going to be too much. In addition to the music controls, the animations and rollovers and whatever else... having a billion little images to make this design look "cooler" would have been overkill. Anyway, I'm NOT happy with this yet. I still have a lot of work to do to it, especially on the top half... but here it is.

Who all loves Techno, Electronica, or Classic Rock
Semjaza replied to James P. Galvatron's topic in Noosphere
Well, I'll see what I can come up with. Classic rock... It's hard to name several of the groups and musicians I like because they still regularly put stuff out. I mean, I know what classic rock is, but if I sit and think about it it gets confusing. Bad Religion, The Cure and Misfits have all been around since the late 70s/early 80s and does anyone think of them when they think "classic"? They're all rock when you get down to it -- mostly The Cure-- but it doesn't seem like they're thought of in that way. We're also at the point where 80s rock is being stuck into the "classic" section and I don't know what's worth it and what's not lol David Bowie is an excellent example of someone who still puts out music regularly. Strangely, I don't hear anything of his (outside of Suffragette City and Under Pressure -- which is mostly considered a Queen song it seems) on the radio. I love pretty much his entire catalog. I also love The Doors. I've been into them for several years now. I haven't been able to pick up all of their stuff, but if you're interested you should get the newest Greatest Hits they put out. It's remastered and Break On Through actually has something added back into it that was removed. My favorite songs of theirs are Five to One and Crystal Ship. I like Queen, but I feel they're really hit or miss. They have several songs that are amazing, a bunch of good ones and a substantial portion of songs I never want to listen to. I've always liked their song Killer Queen. Yes is also awesome. If you can, get the 2CD Best of set they put out. Great stuff. I also like BTO, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Rush and some others. My interest in electronic music kind of skews more towards the industrial and trip-hop side of things and I doubt any of that is worth mentioning in here. -
I'm sure it was a typo, but "MS Pain" sums that program up nicely. Although I do like to use it sometimes because it's so limiting. I see these on random girly sites sometimes. I don't know what word to use, but "girly" fits lol. I'm glad this one doesn't look like some raver girl like 99% of them do. I think this looks pretty good. I am assuming the "base" was basically her body and you did the rest? I think her hair looks pretty cool, although it's a bit uneven. I think it might look nicer if that was straightened out, but it doesn't hurt much. I like the tiara-thing

Refer to this thread: http://www.otakuboards.com/showthread.php?t=36793 I can't see there being many different responses to this than there have been in that thread. They're kind of similar in the end. Life is mostly about risks. Sometimes you get rejected, sometimes you don't. It's your life to live, though, so I wouldn't rely on people here to make you think more optmistically. Still, that thread might be of use for you. While you're at it, you might want to improve on your post quality before someone gets on your case about it. Check out the rules if you aren't sure what's expected here.

So this thread is about Error. They're putting out an EP this month. I've been keeping up on them for a few months, although news has been very slim. I've mostly bothered because of who is involved.

Atticus Ross - One of the key members of a very cool industrial-ish band known as 12 Rounds. They're on nothing records for those who care to try them out. Atticus has also done many remixes for very popular bands and has involvement with Nine Inch Nails's next LP as well as Trent Reznor's on-again/off-again "Tapeworm" project.
Leopold Ross - Atticus's brother. Was in a very cool band whose name I always forget. Of course, they didn't make it anywhere commercially. Also known for his remixes.
Brett Gurewitz - One of the founders of Bad Religion. I'm under the impression that he's mostly just the producer and driving force behind getting Error out to the public. Obviously his ownership of Epitaph Records helps since they're the label putting out Error's stuff heh.
Gregg Puciato - Lead singer for the Dillenger Escape Plan. According to Atticus he won't be the lead singer on future material since he already has his own band. So he's basically just on for this EP, which is a shame. He does a nice job.
So it comes out on the 24th of this month (a very awesome day because the new Scarling comes out that day too... woo!). In any case, they have let people stream their entire 5 song EP off of a small Flash site that was put up recently. It's not what I expected, despite the involvement of the Ross brothers. Mostly because it's from Epitaph and you don't expect this at all. They're calling it the next level of hardcore. In some ways, I guess it could be considered that. The vocals are definitely something I'd expect from a band of that type. Lots of screaming and anger and aggression. However, the actual music is not. It's more or less industrial. It's really brutal stuff. It's a messed up fusion of punk and industrial... and while other bands have attempted this sort of sound before, Error just somehow puts it in another light and give it a new twist. Whatever you want to call it, I love it. This band is definitely not for everyone. I don't expect many positive comments. However, I think they will garner some sort of response. They're not a group you can just ignore once you've heard them. I don't think people can have an indifferent opinion. I think people will either enjoy it or just hate it. Anyway, you can stream the music by following this link HERE. It requires Flash. I'd play it straight through, but I feel "Jack the Ripper" and "Burn in Hell" are the best tracks. Anyway, if you do like it... there is plans for a full length LP to follow by the Summer. I hope it works out.

A lot of the more spammy threads were completely deleted from OB before v7 opened up. Post counts have no bearing on v7 whatsoever, so I wouldn't even worry about it.

Looks nice to me. Even a decent use of the glow on the typeface... that's pretty rare heh. Is there anything Dagger can't do? I think not.

This is very similar to an existing thread. I'm sorry to do this to you, but I suggest you check that out instead. It's located here: http://www.otakuboards.com/showthread.php?t=37466 If you want to just post something like what you just wrote in there go ahead. Until then I'll have to close this. Thanks.

I don't know that I'm much of a punk fan, but I can name off some bands I listen to. I avoid the hardcore and emo genres on average, but there are people here who can fill that gap. Since you've only named Good Charlotte, I don't know how much you'll like the bands I'm interested in. There's quite a difference. If anyhing, you'd be more into mall-punk or pop-punk... but hell, you never know. My first real exposure to anything to do with "punk" was thanks to a girl who played The Ataris, Decendents, Millencolin, Propaghandi, NOFX, Agnostic Front and a few random others for me. You can go anywhere once you start. Most of the stuff she tried on me I didn't like and I still don't care for. I've moved onto things that fit me a bit better. Bad Religion - They've been around over twenty years for a reason. You can't really go wrong with any of their releases over the years. A few of them are being remastered and reissued with bonus tracks, so you might want to keep an eye out. I recommend Suffer, Gray Race and Stranger Than Fiction personally. There's a political edge to a lot of their stuff, but it doesn't get too specific... remains relevent even years later heh. Apocalypse Hoboken - A local Chicago band who managed to make it onto Kung Fu Records before they finally split up. Kung Fu is ran by The Vandals and had bands such as The Ataris and Blink182 back before they got big. I always found that strange considering how eccentric The Vandals are... Anyway, Apocalypse Hoboken is hard to describe and they're definitely not for everyone. I'm under the impression you might be more into mall-punk or pop-punk, but I'm just going by the one band you named. Apocalypse Hoboken is nothing like that, I'll tell you that much. My favorite punk band, personally. Misfits - They call themselves "horror punk", although at times they really don't even sound like most punk bands musically. They sing a lot of songs about horror movies and weird things like that. One of my favorite bands. They've had two main singers... Glenn Danzig and Michael Graves, they're both worth listening to since you might be into one more than the other. I love them both, honestly. Millencolin - I don't know what the general opinion on these guys is, but they're really damn good. Their older material is great, but their last release, "Home From Home", is amazingly good. I can't think of a single bad track on it. It's more of a mix of genres, but they didn't stray far from their roots. Of the bands I've mentioned so far, I think this is the one you are most likely to be interested in. AFI - I'm not too big on their major label debut, "Sing the Sorrow", but I love the older materal overall. I've always been big on "The Art of Drowning" myself. Voodoo Glow Skulls - They're ska, which isn't something you asked for... but I'm giving it a shot. They're my favorite ska band and I think pretty underrated. They have a great sound going for themselves and I always enjoy the songs they play in Spanish. Blood Brothers - One of the few hardcore bands I've listened to that I've actually enjoyed. If you're remotely interested in what is basically very aggressive punk with a vocalist that screams a lot... this is a good place to start. I listen to a bunch of post-punk bands, but they're probably not worth mentioning here. I doubt most people into punk itself care about post-punk lol. Stuff like the Butthole Surfers, Sonic Youth, Pavement, Pixies, Fugazi, Modest Mouse and The Flaming Lips (well, to an extent -- Yoshimi threw that off quite a bit) fit in there.

Who all loves Techno, Electronica, or Classic Rock
Semjaza replied to James P. Galvatron's topic in Noosphere
This is like making a "Who likes Gangsta Rap and Country Western Music?" thread. Techno and classic rock are so different that I don't even know how to approach this thread. The topic is so broad lol. -
I use Adobe Illustrator. The pen tool in Photoshop is really just a pain in the butt. You'd think it would work the same, but it just doesn't. Creating smooth shapes within Illustrator with the pen is just so much easier. On this, I mostly used the pencil tool. Illustrator smooths out whatever you draw with it, so you don't have to be perfect... But obviously precision is helpful. I wish I had a tablet right now heh. With Illustrator, you have to think in terms of shapes. There isn't an erase tool. There isn't a fill area tool. You have to approach a design knowing how it will look and basically just draw out shapes of colors and strokes... Takes some getting used to, but you get better (although I obviously have a very long way to go yet). My style with this program has always been a more "cel-shaded" approach, if you've seen my other work with it (I've done some wallpapers for theOtaku, although they're based on images since I don't watch those anime shows lol). I'm not a big fan of the realistic, shaded approach that quite a few people pull off amazingly well.
-
It probably looks vectorish because it is made up of vectors lol. I sat with my trusty mouse and drew these all based on images I found online. Some of them came out perfect, but others took a few tries.

Informercials are only on either very early or very late. Ocassionally I see one on at lunch time. Just do something else at those times or stay in bed. Other than that, PBS does money grabbing TV breaks... but they have no other way to get extra money lol. No big deal. Personally, I like infomercials because they're so ridiculous. George Foreman Grills, knives cutting copper pipes and spray-on hair... it's all fun to watch. I especially love the ones where there is a crowd and they yell "SET IT AND FORGET IT!!!!!" Man, they sure are enthsiastic. I think they care more about that little rotisserie oven than I care about most things that should actually be important to me heh.
[EDIT']: My perdiction is that in about 10 years from now, there will be no need for house phones. Everyone will have a cellular phone.
Even if your prediction becomes true, I'm going to be one of the last remaining home phone users. I hate cell phones and I can't see that ever, ever changing.
-
I really don't remember a lot of the movie or what it was called. It was sci-fi and really just a lot of style over substance heh. Pixar is putting out a movie for Disney called The Incredibles. I am not positive if there is another after that, but once those movies are done the contract is over and they'll split up. Disney has already been firing their traditional artists since I guess they want to make their own CG movies. We'll see who wins out I guess lol.
-
I've seen animation from Korea... not much, but it seems to be gained prominance lately. It certainly is amazing looking from certain standpoints, but based on my experience so far, the story writing leaves a lot to be desired. That's obviously only based on films I'd have easier access to, though... so I can't say it's true for everything. I expect that will be overcome easily sooner or later, if it hasn't been already. I expect that anime will have more and more CG worked into it... but I also think that Asia is still proud of its traditional animation capabilties and will stick with them. This is in comparison to Disney which apparently thinks that making everything into CG will save them. There's a lot of other factors they are seemingly just ignoring. So really, I just expect things to get "cleaner", so to speak. Things like Metropolis and even every day TV anime series seem to just look better and better each year. As for the comic artists comment... The world could use more. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of western comics that try to imitate Eastern styles, but what can you do. It's popular.
-
So I have this class called Web Design... which apparently means "Build sites in Flash Class". I chose to do a site on the Pixies. Most of my work was done, but of course it was lost along with another minute long Flash animation I did. I tried just redoing my old work, but obviously the loss of it was a great annoyance. I've just gone with another idea altogether. What I have so far is basically just the opening page design. Since this is just an image and I've not brought the Illustrator file into Flash, obviously nothing is animated. I plan on having the border colors change when a section image is highlighted. The text would also grow and rotate a slight bit. The background of each image there would also have an animation (like lines moving or stars falling, etc). I'll keep updating this thread with the designs for the other page and then finally the website itself when it's completed. Obviously you'll need Flash to run it lol. Anyway, keeping that in mind, I wouldn't mind some comments or suggestions. My last thread on a website (which I think is still on this page -- Mr. Driller), didn't get a single comment... but here's hoping anyway. This is not done yet. I still have to add their logo, a title for the site and some other things... but this is the basic idea for this page. Edit -- I'm not sure if I should put this in that Web Site forum, but I don't really care about the coding and stuff yet. Just the actual art.

It's also important to note that cell phones are apparently cheaper to use in Japan than home phones, unlike the US (and I assume most other countries). I don't find a lot of this all that surprising, considering that.

There are a few I have, I suppose. I, like most people I'm sure, have gone through a lot of different phases and some songs are probably less applicable now than they once were. I don't know that I have any songs "define" me, although I do have songs that I consider meaningful and that apply to what I'm trying to do or hope to try to do lol. That or they just get me in a mood that I feel is best for me.
Dean is a punk, but he doesn't have a band He just got job at Record Land With hair tied back Dyed jet black A high school loser, never looks back Dean is a dick, Dean is a freak Dean was a high school A.V. geek Dean is a jerk and that's all right Dean is a punk rock parasite Dean went to the Hoboken show downtown He went there just to follow them around Dean is the guy who always meets the band 'Cause he's a big man at Recordland Dean is a dick, Dean is a freak Dean was a high school A.V. geek Dean is a jerk and that's all right Dean is a punk rock parasite Dean is punk but he doesn't have a band He writes for a 'zine and doesn't have any friends He'll put down your band if you're doing okay 'Cause Dean's a jaded **** with nothing to say
Obviously not the most thought provoking song ever, but I think it puts words to a type of person I just would never want to be. When someone is a "music geek" it seems they tend to get like that. I don't think I am, but who really knows. At least this song makes me sit back and reflect on it lol.
People stared at the makeup on his face Laughed at his long black hair, his animal grace The boy in the bright blue jeans Jumped up on the stage And lady stardust sang his songs Of darkness and disgrace And he was all right, the band was altogether Yes, he was all right, the song went on forever And he was awful nice Really quite out of sight And he sang all night long Femme fatales emerged from shadows To watch this creature fair Boys stood upon their chairs To make their point of view I smiled sadly for a love I could not obey Lady Stardust sang his songs Of darkness and dismay Oh how I sighed when they asked if I knew his name
I suppose at some point I'd like to be in a band. I certainly have enough ideas, although I don't know how possible many of them are. Lady Stardust, to me, is kind of the ultimate dream of someone who is in a band. That your music would somehow reach most people on a deep level, regardless of what type of person they are.
I can smell I can smell your breath from here Cut you down Let the words crawl from your mouth Try this on We'll call it new age apathy Push you down 'Cause it's the new recipe All the kids found out what's missing It's so hard to try to be different And I don't know what it'll add up to be Moses split the sea with the wink of an eye There's a whole lot of people that don't know why So let's believe in something we can't see Sniffing dope Can lead to massive atrophy Interpretation Of one's own apocrypha Baby's sick Let's fondle one another Smash it up Let's mock one another Hey God, hey God, can you hear me? I'd like to try the recipe It all ends with a little luck
This one kind of sums up my feelings on religion as a whole, although I think many people would read it much differently than I take it. Piro and I seem to be in agreement on it.
As soon as I get my head around you I come around catching sparks off you I get an electric shock from you This second-hand living just won't do And the way I feel tonight I could die and I wouldn't mind And there's something going on inside Makes you wanna feel Makes you wanna try Makes you wanna blow the stars from the sky And I can't stand up I can't cool down I can't get my head off the ground As soon as I get my head around you I come around catching sparks off you And all I ever got from you Was all I ever took from you Yeah, the world could die in pain And I wouldn't feel no shame And there's nothing holding me to blame Makes you wanna feel Makes you wanna try Makes you wanna blow the stars from the sky And I'm taking myself to a dirty part of town Where all my troubles can't be found I said yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah And I'm taking myself to a dirty part of town Where all my troubles can't be found Makes you wanna feel Makes you wanna try Makes you wanna blow the stars from the sky
This song just is basically where I'd like to be at some point. To be that happy that none of these things people obsess over on a regular basis would matter at all. I should add that this song was originally by Jesus and Mary Chain, but the Pixies cover is a LOT better (and I'm trying to be objective here lol). In any case, it always puts me in a great mood. There's about a billion other songs that "mean" something to me, but I don't know how many are applicable to my life in this sense. I'd have to think about that for quite awhile lol. I may add more later, though.
