It's kind of funny that Starfox 64 is one of Nintendo's less respected games. I remember reading about some event in Japan where Miyamoto was about to come up on the stage. The announcer read off some of his games like Super Mario 64 andOcarina of Time and people applauded loudly. When Starfox 64 was mentioned, there apparently was noticably less applause. I don't really get why. To this day I can't really get into the original. Starfox 64 blows it away in any way imaginable, in my opinion. Except maybe some of the really annoying voices... One of my favorite shooters is Life Force. It's basically just an altered Gradius clone (although it is released by Konami, which originally made that game anyway). It's based on this weird sci-fi movie that most people don't even remember by now. Really awesome game though. Check it out if you haven't. I have R-Types on my PSX and that's always fun to go back to. I've heard that wasn't very easy to get, but I saw it for $10 at a local shop so I picked it up. Dreamcast also had some cool shooting games. Of course there's the original Ikaruga, which I have (since before the GCN version came out). There's also this game called Bangai-O which is really cool. Bangai-O is different than most shooters because you're in a mech and not a plane. You have full flight control over it though. The translation is hilarious. Apparently the Japanese creator sent over a really bad translation for the English publishers to localize. They thought it was so funny that they just kept it like that and stuck it in the game. I'm personally glad they did heh.

I don't really see the issue. This is something that has come up in nearly every political race in this country pretty much since its inception... Democratic, Republican or otherwise. Presidential race or a lesser office. Same nonsense every time. The terms and descriptions of all this even had a section in my government textbook back in highschool. I think it's pretty much expected by now, although obviously not exactly looked highly upon.

For me, Final Fantasy and "best battle system" can't even appear in the same sentence unless it involves "does not have". Chrono Cross has an amazingly cool battle system. It's difficult to get used to at first, but once you mastered the field effects with magic it totally rocked. There were so many things you could mess around with. Xenogears also had a pretty cool combat system, mostly because of the way it approached things. You had to press certain button combinations to pulll off various moves. There were quite a bit per character to unlock too. I think this really kept the game from getting too dull... especially considering how slow paced it could be at times, in addition to the really high encounter rate. Persona 2: Eternal Punishment also has an awesome system, I think. It's turn based, but there is just a massive amount of stuff your characters can do. You have standard melee attacks as well as ranged weapon attacks. Magic is used by calling upon your Persona (like a summon, sort of). The more you use them the stronger they get and the more magic they can use. Depending on what Persona attacks you used they'd also form combos. It also has the very cool option of talking to your enemies. You can piss them off, befriend them, bribe them... all sorts of things. I wish more games did this. Valkyrie Profile was also pretty cool. Overall, I'd say it was somewhat comparable to Xenogears's methods. The main difference was that each button on the PSX controller applied to one of your characters attacks. So X was one guy, Circle was another, etc. So there would be a lot of timing involved. For example there were some enemies who had soft bellies, so you could have one character hit them up in the air and another character hit them while they were in a daze. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is also a blast. I think it really picks up when you get all your weapon types. The game is very involving in battles, which just makes it very enjoyable. Timing is key, but there are also a lot of puzzle-ish elements involved. Then, of course, there's stuff like Disgaea that's almost nothing but battles in the first place. I really love how that game is set up, especially with the Geo Panels. They're too complex for me to explain at 1:30 AM though lol. Grandia is also awesome. as is Star Ocean. I'm looking forward to Star Ocean 3, Baten Kaitos and Tales of Symphonia in part because of their battle systems.

It sounds like she's more annoyed over the loss of a signature than anything. I've talked to a few people who were annoyed over this... and while I can understand a slight annoyance, for it to take over your entire opinion of the forum is rather ridiculous lol. Based on that posting quality, I can't say the place would miss much anyway. There wasn't even any thing constructive in it heh. The myOtaku thing isn't fully installed yet. It should be soon. OB is lagging because of all the people who came on at once and have been loading things up for the first time. The place is noticably faster than earlier today.
It's good times, and will convert Xbox haters!
I don't know how, considering it's also available on PS2 heh.

Some people suffer from insanity and psychotic delusions. I don't know how much more could be said about it heh.
James does make a very significant point. And Semjaza, we werent complaining, we were just trying to say what we thought of the new boards. And now that I have been getting used to it and using it more, it not bothering me nearly as much. But anyways, what is the deal with the teams though. I really dont get what those are for, and how do you join/make a team?
I was just poking fun with the complaining thing... that's why I stuck in the "lol" heh. Obviously people won't love every last aspect of something new. We'll see what happens. I agree with James about giving it a week or so, because having any remotely solid opinion on something like this in two hours just seems a bit too quick, in my opinion. If it's not any better for you by then, then I suppose that's just how it will be lol.

I'd say Kraid, overall, was possibly more difficult in Zero Mission... not that that's saying much. In general, I think the boss battles were far less intense, surprising or fun as those in Super Metroid or Metroid Fusion. I finished this game the other day and I'm kind of mixed. In some ways, it rocked. I loved some of the new additions. I loved seeing the new versions of familiar enemies and areas. I loved the great remixed area music (Norfair in particular). What I didn't love was that the game was simply too easy. Normal Mode might as well be Easy. I'd expect Easy would be comparable to Toddler Mode. I've played some of Hard and that honestly feels like how it should have been in the first place. It really would have helped extend the game length. The other issue is its length. I finished it my first time through in 3 hours and 10 minutes. I had 65% collected, but I didn't even need half of what I had. I just felt like I blew through this game in no time at all... I almost feel ripped off in some senses. Even another hour would have been nice. I did however like the areas added to the game that weren't present in the original in any form. I wish there was more of that. The cutscenes were neat too. Overall, I much preferred Fusion. It was just more challenging and felt far more polished.

A lot of older people look down on animation in general. Members of my family completely refuse to believe that something like the Simpsons could be aimed at older audiences. Why? Simply because they're animated. I don't understand it, but nothing much will change that perception. It's pretty much branded into their brains by adult ages heh. Similar thoughts occur with video games, really. I wouldn't be offended by anime being called a cartoon. That's really all it is in the first place, regardless of the subject matter. It's not as if every, last "real" cartoon is aimed towards pre-teens.
I guess I could get used to it... but for once I dread having my wide screen laptop, heh... Everything else looks great, though! Handy things on the sidebar make things a little easy to do (like editting stuff). Also it's easier to see the online list now, believe it or not. So... yeah it's pretty cool, and I'll get used to the width... (But I won't get used to the Adventure Arena bit... I am so lazy I won't even scroll down... oh well who cares?)
I don't know if you visit every forum, but I've collapsed the ones I never visit by clicking that little double arrow icon. No reason to take up space with stuff I never look at. Of course, you might have known that already... I don't know lol.

I also wanted to add one last thing. I don't know if anyone has seen the default VB3 skins, but the design Justin and James came up with is far more organized and streamlined. When v7 was in Beta testing, the default skin was still setup and it was incredibly mazelike. This is such a massive improvement over that that it's insane. I literally got completely lost in it by following just two links... And while this was a bit odd at first, I managed to get completely used James and Justin's revisions. They just make more sense overall. So in retrospect, I think that people would have been far less happy with what VB3 looks like on default than what has been put together here. Things such as the width concerns are just passing problems, really. I can see the concern, but I feel it makes the board look less bloated and also has a better sense of design. The top banner, for example, would have been very hard to design for varying resolutions. However, I've been seeing these boards in some form for quite a few weeks now. You will get used to them and I think many of you will prefer them... or so I hope lol. One really never knows I guess heh.

It's been up a few hours and already you're complaining about how things are going to work? How would you really even know yet? Give it time. lol First of all, putting the game sections together makes sense. The Xbox forum was all but dead, Pokemon and Zelda had a few active threads and Nintendo, Sony and Square were lucky to get a few posts per day. I was in them every day and I can tell you right out that they were stagnant. Other than a select few threads, literally nothing happened in some of the sections. So what, pray tell, is wrong with putting a bunch of forums together to encourage more discussion? Instead of someone hiding in Sony, they're instead in one gaming area where they might be more likely to intermingle and discuss other topics. Hopefully a singular game thread (and there can be others on one game depending on their topic) would discourage people from posting lame crap like "Who Likes Link!?!?" (which actually happened before). I'm failing to see how it was a bad idea or how it would be remotely confusing for anyone. The subforms really don't seem all that different to me. Other than ones that existed in the first place, the only "new" ones are archive sections that you cannot post in anyway. The web design forum's placement makes sense to me. As for the gaming area, topic names had to be changed so it was obvious what they were referring to. "HELP ME!!" or some other nonsense doesn't help anything and it would make the forum hard to go through. This way a game gets a thread and all is taken care of. The forum layout is different, so I'm sure it'll annoy a few people. It took me a bit to get accustomed to the new placement and I agree it's a little odd right now. You'll get used to it. I admit I still prefer the old forum order as of right now. Anyway, people naturally don't like change on average. I think people will grow to like it. When I first saw the beginning stages of v7 weeks back it was a bit strange, but it has grown on me and I much prefer it.

It's for GameCube. It originally wasn't mentioned because when James first posted the thread we still had a specific Nintendo section heh. I don't think any specific release date has been announced, but it's coming out sometime late this year.

This is nothing special, but it's about all I've been working on that's "artistic" ( I use that loosely because this is just graphic design, it's not art) in any sense of the word outside of v7 stuff. Anyway, this is a fanlisting on a game series known as Mr. Driller. I basically took a screen from the GameCube version of the game, cleaned it up some and sliced it up so it would fit a website layout. I then cleaned up the Mr. Driller logo and erased quite a bit of useless colors on it so it would fit nicely. I did it with tables because it was just easier. I could have laid it out with CSS and DIV tags, but I just don't have the patience for it right now heh. I've been thinking about making the image on the top of each page different, but the main issue right now is that the current image is huge as it is (like 100kb) and I don't want to put an unnecessary load on anyone that goes there to join it. I also feel that it's missing something. I've been thinking about putting the various characters in the text area to liven it up a bit... but I don't know. Any suggestions? You can go here to see it: http://www.slownerveaction.org/fanlistings/mrdriller

There's nothing to talk about in any way. The only news that ever broke out was when Square registered the name Chrono Break. Last I heard they didn't renew that, so it's gone. Anything else talked about was pure BS. I don't even think I'd consider them good enough to be called rumors. There are pics about, but they're all completely faked.

Hard should have been the Normal setting and something even more difficult should have been hard. It's like they were trying to cater to the masses with the difficulty. Fusion might have been short, but it was no slouch in the difficulty department -- particularly with the bosses. Overall, while impressive, I don't think this game has the same level of polish as Fusion does. It's obvious even within the first thirty minutes. That doesn't mean that it's bad, just different, I guess.

I think that wouldn't be considered part of the contest considering it hasn't actually started yet.

There's not much to say other than that I'm excited about the game. I have been for quite some time. The only disappointing news so far is that all the areas shown originally were entirely scrapped. I suppose in some ways the earlier stuff wasn't "Resident Evil-ish", but it was still cool. I'd like to see those ideas show up in another game, at least. P.S. -- You have to copy and paste those links into the address bar to see the images.

I just wanted to add my perspective on many of these things. When there's a member I feel is worthy of being banned, I often purge their more useless and rule-breaking posts from the forum entirely. There's no reason to keep them around and thus, in many cases, you won't even see what the person did wrong unless you were there right when it happened. I don't know anything about this character or why he was banned. However, there's various possibilites. One could be that he was banned recently and tried to return. Some people are given another chance, some of the more annoying ones sometimes aren't. There have been people who have returned and have become good members since then. There are others who come back with derrogatory user names and who knows what else. You just go with the flow. There's also the fact that when you've been doing this long enough, you can simply tell who will improve and who will not. There's very, very few exceptions to this... and if you wait, these people often bury themselves into the wordwork and post so often that it's much, much harder to remove them in the future when you finally realize your mistake. That obviously isn't the most common reason, but it is one of them for the newer problematic members. I'd say 99% percent of people who wind up being banned are warned in some form. Some people are warned several times more than they probably should be. For the more complicated ones, the mods discuss it. It's not usually just a run and gun motion. So there's a lot to it in general.

Yeah, I agree. It takes several hours to pop out anything good that's more than a simple sketch. I don't even know that I'll be able to make any of the due dates if it's all due that soon. I'm just getting into the college midterms again and I'm not going to be able to do that.

I've play it for a bit. I've liked what I've seen so far. There's some differences from the original that you notice right away. Samus can actually kneel, which is a welcome addition. She rolls into a ball by pressing down again. There's a lot more Chozo statues around now too. A few of them tell you where you have to get to next, although it's nothing like in Fusion. It just puts a spot on your map to get to. I'm surprised by how different some of the layout of the world is even right at the beginning. There's a lot of neat touches too. The title screen, while much nicer, is very similar to the original. The METROID text flashes and little stars go around its edge. Lots of remixes of the original songs as well. The only odd thing so far is that Samus doesn't jump very high at all. I'm assuming she must get high jump boots at some point.

The Grammy Awards: Biggest disappointment of the year
Semjaza replied to Transtic Nerve's topic in Noosphere
Originally posted by CrH Well, mayhap they were reffering to the wildly successful but undoubtedly rare 'Clocks Remix'? Maybe. The way I see it though it just seems like another way to waste another twenty minutes of air time, even if both of them deserved to win something.
As I said before, record of the year has to do with the actual recording. Not the album. Don't think of it in the sense of a vinyl record. Remixes don't count by themselves. "Record of the Year goes to the people involved in actually creating the record. The producer, mixers, engineers, etc. It has nothing to do with the actual album itself or the artists." -
Wow, someone else owns this game. I love it. Anyway... Go to Aliahan and sail around the cape. Once you're a few spaces away from the castle head directly south. You should come across a bunch of rocks in the middle of the ocean. Use the dry vase in front of them and the cave will appear. Hopefully that should help. If not, just post in here. P.S. -- I'm moving this to Square/Enix since it's an Enix game.

You can't really expect much from a VHS to DVD conversion. Even if you had the best remastering products available (which no one does lol), you're going to hit a wall. In our situation, it won't look that good and would probably be worse than the actual tapes since most software likes artifacting the image. The only way you'd get anywhere is if you had the master tapes. If you're really desperate, Lucasfilm put the trilogy on laser disc. Not many people have players for that, but the bootleg market has since copied them over to DVD. It looks better than a VHS to DVD transfer could ever dream of. Of course, it's the Special Editions. My friend got all three for $25 on eBay and they're not bad. However, putting them on DVD to stop the degredation of the tapes is a good choice either way lol.

Well I'm not referring to that as much as the rumors that Lucas wants to add even more scenes. Apparently Greedo shooting first will be put back in... but the rumor is that he wants to add more scenes featuring characters that only were shown off in the new movies in addition to extensions of existing scenes. There would be more of the fight between Vader and Kenobi, for example. So I don't know what to think about that just yet.
