Even excluding the issues of content, it brings up other issues: 1.) Most people here are of a rather young age, would they even have a decent website that really required anything more than a link in their sig? In most cases, not really. 2.) Where do most people host their personal sites? On free servers, plagued with pop-ups and who knows what. In addition to worrying about content issues, this will be another concern. I know people would be like "Put a disclaimer!"-- it's not that easy. If you're going from here to another one linked in an official section on OB, where are people going to complain to? They're going to complain to us and I, for one, do not want to deal with that. 3.) Barring that and assuming there is some sort of required quality level... A vast majority of the people who come here and advertise their sites never post here again. They have no importance to OB itself as they don't really contribute to it. They don't have much of an interest in OB. Therefore, they're only here to pass their links along to us and hope for a benefit. I personally have a problem with that. It's like the people who post in the picture forum and never post elsewhere. I assume it's mostly so they feel better about themselves, who knows. 4.) In the rare case where someone is a regular member and actually has a decent site, most people find out about it via sigs anyway. I have people that come to my sites that I've never even talked to. I, personally, think this is the best way to go about it. Anyway, that's my thoughts on it.

He hasn't been here since June. Bringing back old threads like this is outright pointless, please refrain from it in the future.

I don't really see how it could play like Fusion because of the way the original Metroid is set up. Fusion was designed from the ground up to work how it does, whereas this is just a remake of the original. From what I understand there will be story cutscenes, but from everything I've heard it's not going to play any different aside from areas being redesigned to take advantage of Samus's new moves.
-
It's really come a long way since it was first shown. It originally had a very cartoony quality to it and Samus looked like some cross between herself, Kirby and cel-shaded Link. It looked okay, but definitely not that impressive. I think they were trying to make Samus look a lot like she did in the original game, but it just didn't work. So I'm happy with the new design. I really think this has the chance to be the best Metroid yet. The original was huge as it was and combining that with Super Metroid quality graphics, new areas, moves, aliens and so on... awesome. It's amazing how soon this is coming out too. Really little has been said about it. I was at KB Toys a few weeks ago and they already had a display saying to reserve it. I didn't know it was that close to being out. Yay.

Like I've said before, most FF games follow the same basic plot scructure. 1.) You against some sort of evil, governmental figure. (Queen, Shinra, Empire, etc) 2.) You try to stop them, but you're ultimately not successful because... 3.) This is overthrown in some manner by an even more evil sorceror (Kuja, Sephiroth/Jenova, Kefka) 4.) Stop that sorceror. This has been used in the last several games to some degree. Now obviously some are more effective with it than others and there's more to it than that. That's just a simple breakdown. RPGs don't NEED to have the plotline you or I listed. It's just what people are used to and I think in a sense companies were stuck with the idea of "How do we get out of this rut without changing the series too dramatically?" There are many RPGs that don't do this, some even from Square itself. I don't think this is an easy change to make when you're that far into a series. For the love stories, it just depends. I'm tiring of them mostly because I'm sick of all the melodrama in RPGs lately. I don't mind some, but it's getting too thick when coupled with everything else. It's why games like Disgaea and Skies of Arcadia are such a breath of fresh air, really. Some of the FF games pull it off better than others. Squall lightens up some before Rinoa really shows any signs of interest, but it doesn't change what a complete wuss he is. There really wasn't anything to speak of in FF7 unless you fill in the blanks and make assumptions. I think the only FF game to pull any sort of "love" story off well was FF6, because it seemed logical. Locke and Celes were in very similar situations and both were rather vulnerable at the time. I put love in quotes mostly because it doesn't really go anywhere, but there are obviously feelings. My problem with Tidus in the scheme of all this was that he was just too bouncy. FF games seem to like extremes. If you're happy you're super happy. If you angsty, you're the most angsty person ever. If you're weird, you always must act weird. There isn't much of a middle point most of the time (note, I didn't say ALL of the time). This is why I'm looking forward to FFXII so much, and have been for over a year. First of all, Matsuno is involved on a very big level. You may know him from Vagrant Story. This alone signifies a pretty big change in many ways. Plus he's already promised that there wouldn't be any significant love story... among other things that leave me really optimistic for the future. Apparently what they've shown so far is similar to past FF games, but he claims that there's a lot that isn't similar at all and will leave people surprised. No clue what that may be lol. So I'm looking forward to that.

I always really liked the A Wizard in Rhyme series by Christopher Stasheff. I'm not sure how many there are total, but there are at least three of them.

Well, you had that other thread, but I know you couldn't post in it due to the double posting rules heh... so no big deal. Besides this game needs all the discussion it can get. Best RPG on the PS2, I'd say. With the congress, it's really hit or miss. Obviously you can bribe them with items, but if you have a guy marked as "loathe" no amout of items you can hold are probably going to change his mind (maybe if you have like 25 must have items, but that would just take care of maybe two guys? lol). However, if it's anything else bribes usually will work a bit more quickly. Bribe the guys with the highest levels because they get the most votes. Based on my experience it depends on how far you are, but it also depends on your Rank. If you keep doing those Promotion Exams, I figure you'll eventually be at the point that they'll take you seriously. I think it maxes at Level 11, although I'm nowhere near that yet. If not, I guess you could always attack them lol I also find that if you just keep entering and exiting the Congress menu, the Influence amount will change. I just keep doing that over and over until I get a high number. Usually it only takes three or four tries. I don't know if that'll help or not. You most likely already know that heh. As for leveling... Throwing guys together works fine, obviously. However, I recommend going to a map filled with squares marked '"Invulnerable". As long as you're on one, you can't be hurt. Just pick up a monster and throw him onto a normal square and attack the hell out of him. Chapter 5, Map 3 is a good place to start. I'd also work hard to find stages where you know how to get rid of every last Geo Panel (preferably one with every color). You'll probably kill everything on the map within a few turns if you're lucky... plus you get all sorts of nice XP bonuses and such. Also, really use those extra XP squares to your advantage. As for the Item World, well you know already lol. I figure if you find one of those items with monsters that are Level 255 on the first floor, you don't have to spend too much time in there.

It was average. I wasn't that impressed overall. There were just too many little subplots thrown in so you could learn about the kids and most of them weren't even remotely resolved. There was this constant bad cut back to other characters, such as Mark, just so you knew what they were doing. The ones I found most interesting were of course the ones they ignored lol. Even on a comedic level, I thought it was pretty hit or miss. There were so many corny jokes, especially at the start, that I was squirming around in my seat ready to leave. Luckily there were also points where it was one funny thing after another. Strangely, I thought the funniest part was when
that kid who thought he was ghetto screamed out "My latte!"
They really had that type of character down lol. I guess what just got me the most was that there was really very little room in this movie for Steve Martin to do any of the comedy he is most suited for. It didn't seem like a Steve Martin movie. I also never realized what a bad actress Hillary Duff is. Her scenes felt like she was reading from a script for a cartoon.

I want to see it, but I've yet to. It's about a prostitute that kills people, so I can't say I'd be surprised that it's not for people with weak stomachs. I keep getting this movie confused with Party Monster for some reason. Apparently it's almost ruined by Macauley Culkin's bad acting (yes, the Home Alone kid), but other people help save it somewhat. So I want to see both lol

You cannot recover information on carts. If it is wiped, that's it. I would always try to restart the game to double check though. I've had times where nothing loads up, but once I reset the saves were all there. In any case, there's only two reasons for this to happen on a GBA at this point: 1.) The cartridge is faulty, replace it. 2.) You're not letting the game save properly (i.e., turning the system off during a save or whatever. I severely doubt you're doing the second one, so it has to be the first. The other option is one I'm not sure of. I know SNES and NES games used standard watch size batteries. You could replace them and this would often fix save game troubles similar to this. I have no clue what sort of batteres GBA games use. Usually these batteries last several years minimum, so I doubt that's the problem. Sounds like you'll most likely just have to exchange it.

Witches..... Does everyone think thay are bad.
Semjaza replied to catdemon's topic in General Discussion
The "real" definiton for a witch has absolutely nothing to do with Satan. Witches have for the most part always been what they currently call themselves. In any case, I personally could do without yet another Wiccan thread, but that's me lol -
I'm not a big fan of Slayer. I'm past most of my metal phase. What I always found amusing, though, was that God Hates Us All was released on September 11th, 2001. Obviously just a large coincidence, but still amusing in a morbid sense.
Originally posted by amibasuki lol yeah, the first thing I thought of when I heard the lead singer was "hey, he kinda sounds like the Radiohead singer!" my favorite song from the Absolution CD is probably Stockholm Syndrome, if just for the energy alone.
Stockholm Syndrome is one of my favorites on the disc. The end where it's just power guitars is orgasmic. The whole CD really gets you going, I think... well maybe not the slow songs. The Radiohead thing makes some sense. I can see the relationship, especially between OK Computer and Origin of Symmetry. On there it's pretty obvious (I believe Muse are open Radiohead fans, too). However, when I listen to Showbiz and Absolution, I really just don't see it. There's some similarities, but not enough that it would instantly spring into my mind lol. I won Hullaballo (if I spelled that right) off eBay yesterday. The two CD set (all 18 tracks, yay). Really looking forward to getting that :D

Microsoft itself is publishing it. Big Blue Box is developing it (they themselves have a connection to Molyneux's Lionhead company -- you might remember them for Black & White recently).
Originally posted by Dragon Warrior Sounds like Daredevil to me, Azarel XD But I'll give it a chance. It may be what my friend was talking about when he said there's a new super hero flick coming out called "The Executioner".
Well, I don't know how it could be like the Daredevil. Daredevil has nothing to do with actual devils, demons or anything like that lol. The only similarity is that they are based on comics heh.

There's always a bunch of bands I'd never even bother with at these things... but The Datsuns, Flaming Lips, Muse, Darkness and a few others make up for it. It always seems like US tours like these suck by comparison.

There was a thread on this, plus an answer of sorts: http://www.otakuboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35728 "Wait for v7" is apparently OB's new slogan for this section.

When do you think is the right time for sex?
Semjaza replied to Epitome's topic in General Discussion
I can't say I care. When you're ready, you're ready. Obviously there are certain ages that just shouldn't be doing these things, but if both involved are mature about the situation -- it's usually enough. I'd have to say that most people here should worry about getting a serious partner before they concern themselves over sexual actions. One thing at a time. -
Originally posted by Arkadyz Oh and lynx thats kinda interesting that you've seen some trailers for it...Considering the first trailer wont be out until friday...:therock::p
I swear there was some sort of trailer released for this movie. It didn't show anything really, but I remember something with the character standing there while text went by. I could me imagining it. Hellboy is based upon a really excellent comic series. I'm looking forward to it, mostly because it seems like it will be the kind of fun, comic book experience it should have been in the first place. I don't really know what the movie itself will be doing in terms of the storyline, as I've been trying to avoid news on it lol

I've been looking forward to this movie for several months now. I can't remember if there was a trailer or not, but lately I've been seeing big displays for it at the theater. They seem to have a good style down for it. Should be a lot of fun if it is done well and takes itself somewhat seriously. I'd like to see it. It's on my list with Hellboy and Kill Bill vol. 2 for movies to see this year.

I've been meaning to post a thread on this band for awhile. I've known of their existance for a few years, but I didn't really keep up on them until somewhat recently. Here in the US, the only official release of theirs was Showbix back in 1999. That's it. Since then, they've released the amazing Origin of Symmetry and the slightly less amazing, but still great, Absolution. I know people in Europe have been able to enjoy all of their work on a regular basis, but back where I live Muse is basically nonexistant. I had to pay crazy import prices for their last two releases... meanwhile, Showbiz can be found for $10. I envy you people. I think what is worse is that they don't even tour over here. I'd have to make a trip to Europe to even see them at this point heh. Anyway, they apparently got some contracts going with US companies now... so I'm hoping their other stuff comes out here. They're certainly better than most bands around today. Anyway, in case you're wondering, Muse is a rock band. A really excellent rock band. People make comparisons to Radiohead, but I really do not see much of that. It's very slight for the most part, especially on the rather heavy rocking Absolution (which I had in my best of 2003 list). I guess Origin of Symmetry has comparisons though. Anyway, anyone else into them? I know Arcadia is heh, and Red IMed me about them once...
Originally posted by ChibiHorsewoman The other one is some song by Black Eyed Peas that goes something like-My Baby don't mess around la la la. The vieo was bad and the song grates on my nerves. So, what are your choices?
If you're talking about what I think you are, it's not by the Black Peas. It's Hey Ya! by Outkast... It's from Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, which they released rather recently. I didn't expect that song to become as big of a hit as it has, but it's still good. That's an awesome release though. Everyone should own it.
Originally posted by Xyandar Since when is there christian rap???? I always thought that rap was dispised from religious cultures because of such profanities.. o well. I was mistaken.
That's such a single-minded grasp of rap/hip hop that I wonder how you can even make comments on the subject. How could you decide you hate rap in that "annoying music" thread when you apparently don't even know what's out there? lol In any case, Christian Rap has been around for quite awhile. Rap itself isn't any set theme or content label, it's how the music is performed. How it sounds. That said, I'm not familiar with any Christian Rap bands. Some rock like Jars of Clay, Plumb and so forth... but that's about it.

Well, I was referring to this, which was in one of your earlier posts.
Ladies and gentlemen, and fellow poets . . . It's now time to declare the winner of the largest cash prize ever awarded to an amateur poet . . . Our Poet of the Year for 2004 . . . and Grand Prize winner of $20,000 is . . . Vicky Sherratt! We're familiar with your work, Vicky, and you know . . it could happen just that way! Amateur poet... right, either that means children or something, because... it sounds weird, plus I don't live anywhere where money is $'s. P.S. I'm sending you this reminder since you previously requested to be notified of poetry news by e-mail. If you no longer wish us to notify you of poetic events that we believe may be of interest to you.
This second one you just posted seems more legit heh.
