I'm not really fond of the idea that only anime can have complex plots in the animation world. There are so many anime that don't even require a single brain cell, same with animation here. There are some anime that are very intellectual, same with animation here. I don't really know how this conclusion was reached, but it's definitely not always true. I would say that more anime has complexities to it simply because animation is something that is not looked upon as stuff for children in Japan... but there are many exceptions to the typical, goofy Western cartoon stereotype. Same with comics and manga -- not all comics are about some invulernable superhero. OF course, you'll never know this if you don't bother to look. If someone has already made up their mind on the subject, however, I doubt anyone is going to change it.

I expect a handful of people to post a bunch of bizarre names, mostly with Japanese roots. I hope people grow out of that phase by the time they have a kid. I know I wouldn't want to be named Shigeru and have parents with absolutely no Japanese ancestry heh. Think about your kids when you name them, you'd be turning them into a joke. They'll resent you, that's for sure. In any case, I don't even think about marriage let alone children. I've never really thought about names for kids that I prefer... but I doubt any would be out of the ordinary. In fact, I think I'd try and stick with a set of names that sounded decent when combined with my last name. Some just don't sound right together.

I'm looking forward to the game. My interest has slightly dimished mainly because it has been delayed so many times. Plus, the game is just not looking as nice as the first "concept" shots released... not that it looks bad by any means, but certainly not as good. However, the ideas it presents should make it an awesome game anyway. I'm planning on having a lot of fun with it. If your actions really affect as much as the developer claims, there will really be a lot of replay value. Last I heard, though, it had been delayed again. I don't think it is set for March (or whatever it was) any longer.

Pirates of the Carribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl!
Semjaza replied to Hacker Kite's topic in Noosphere
Well, generally if you go into anything expecting the "best ever", you're going to be disappointed. I only listen to opinions on movies and music from people I tend to agree with. I mean, there's people who have tried to tell me that the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake is the best horror film ever. Give me a break lol. In any case, Bloom must have an amazing manager. He managed to get into this, Lord of the Rings... He's in the upcoming Troy, as well, which looks like it's going to be another one of those massive, epic movies. He really get some great parts. -
Polls close themselves unless otherwise specified. I think yours was only set up to last 7 days. In any case, I'm glad there is a fanbase for this now. Back when it was on Fox, they switched the days and times so much. I'm convinced that's why it got cancelled. As soon as I got used to it being on one day, they changed it to another. How is this beneficial for anyone? They do this constantly. But I guess the DVDs are doing so well and Family Guy and Futurama apparently has better ratings within key demographics than late night talk shows like Leno that air at the same time. I'm very happy they're going to be making new episodes.

Based on my experience, IE 5 (well, 5.2 anyway lol) on Macs is one of the most problematic browsers ever. There's things in it that will work and then suddenly won't if you refresh a page. It's probably been the source of most of my biggest annoyances with web sites. Anyway, it mostly works fine in the latest version of Mozilla. However, that "colors" popup doesn't work properly. The window comes up, but nothing ever loads into it. Edit -- it's possible I'm missing some sort of plug-in or something for that though. I'm not sure how those are usually made. However, I can't even get that color thing to work in IE6, so I don't know.

I like Mr. Bean. It's nothing amazing, but it can be very amusing. They play it on PBS here every so often, and it seemed like whenever I saw it... I'd see the same few episodes. It started to annoy me until I found out there were only like 14 of them in the first place. That Mr. Bean cartoon is fun too, although the animation style is really weird. No one in it has ankles and Mr. Bean's eyebrows are rather scary.

Blue is by Eiffel 65. I don't really listen to the radio. All I play is the local "classic" rock station (covers 60s to today), which sometimes plays some newer stuff by bigger straight-out rock bands. Radio sucks here otherwise. So really, I never hear most of these songs enough to be annoyed.

These things aren't quite that easy. Depending on what he wants to do, a lot of money is involved in college. Maybe his dad can't force him to do anything, but there is a large possibility that it will affect his college funding. If my mom weren't helping me, my interest rates on the loans I had to get would be rather bad. Enough that I certainly wouldn't be going where I am now. Who knows though. Even if he just ignored his father entirely onthe subject, his mom might be plenty to ensure decent help with his schooling financially.

I don't even remember most of it. My first girlfriend was unfortunately this girl named Meghan. Some might remember her from my post about her horrible kissing in another thread (and others may know her from even more things that I regret in my life lol). Anyway, we saw Final Destination in the theater. She actually looked pretty nice that day. I remember her having on this cute pink, fuzzy sweater that suited her well... at least back when I didn't know she was insane. Other than that, I don't remember. The movie was lame, but the date was decent.

As simple as this may sound, I'd just tell your dad. I've not gone through divorce, but I lost my father. I wound up with a step dad, and we had quite a few problems like this for years. I don't think a single thing changed until I stood up to him and told him exactly what I expected out of all of this. I think it's the best thing to do.

Hello. I can't offer any help with this, but I can sure offer you some advice to help you ensure that you'll be around for awhile. Your post quality so far is below unacceptable. I don't think you've topped three words in any of them. You need to be a bit more descriptive in your posts and say what you want or need. Otherwise no one will know. While you're at it, please go here: http://www.otakuboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30059 Read it and then read it again and again and again. Please. Thank you.

Get ready for one of the longest waits ever... well what feels like it anyway lol. It took a bit over three weeks for me to get mine. I kept checking and checking. Apparently if you don't get it after two weeks, you can call Nintendo and request that they send another one. I know a few people that worked for.

I own a Nikon Coolpix 4500. It's a pretty nice 4 megapixel digital camera. I'm quite happy with it at this point. I originally bought it because I figured if I had one, I'd have to learn how to use it. I was partially correct. I know far more about cameras and photography than I ever would have otherwise, but definitely not as much as I could on any level. I just don't have the time to invest in it. I've not touched my camera in quite awhile now. It just hasn't been on my mind. There is this really cool thing I see on the way to school each day that I would love to take photos of, but I never get around to it. In any case, here are some examples: State Street at Night, a few months back. Millenium Park way back in the Summer. Some crazy spider at the Botanical Gardens. This one was a pain because the spider is pretty deep in a section of plants... and you can't step on the plants heh. This is the best angle I could get, and personally I like the fact that it's behind the web. Lily pad. I really like this picture. I off-centered it on purpose, as it usually makes a normally average picture a bit more interesting. I think this came out well. Close up of what I thought was a rose, but I have no clue. I like how this one looks like a painting more than an actual flower. It still amazes me that things like this could be right outside Chicago. Monarch butterfly on a flower. I have others, but that's enough.

The remake of RE offers a new control scheme known as Type C. It allows you to control the characters via the triggers, which apparently a lot of people liked. It was completely removed from Zero for some reason.

Yeah, I can't remember if I made the point in my post or not... but the teachers could potentially be robbed of a lot of freedom and importance by this. There are sections in there that basically seem to make me feel like the children have more control over how the school works than the teachers do... which is really strange. However, I suppose if a school isn't improving after five entire years, you have to wonder how great these teachers are as it is. The basic idea of it is fine, I think. It just really depends on how much else is added to it.

This thread from 2002. In case someone hasn't noticed, the discussion is dead and a few of these people don't even come here anymore. It would have made more sense to start a new one. Brining back threads this old is frowned upon.

I think the original Resident Evil on GC is worth the time. It looks great and has enough changes over the original on Playstation that I enjoyed it. Zero was okay, but I wasn't too into it. Its story is even more goofy and it just really isn't scary. The controls are still like they were on Playstation. Nothing has really changed.

I think overall Adam Sandler is incredibly overrated. I don't find him all that funny overall, to be honest. All this time spent by school and family to try and stop me from acting like a weirdo and these guys get paid for it. Oh well. Water Boy is literally one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I don't think I even cracked a smile at that one. I have no clue how it did as well as it did. I did like Mr. Deeds though. It's not a favorite of mine or anything, but the awesome Bowie reference in the airplane gets about 10 million bonus points from me. There's some others like Happy Gilmore, that I enjoyed. Bob Barker was practically the best part though. I also somehow managed to enjoy The Wedding Singer, despite the presence of the awful Drew Barrymore. I don't think she's matured as an actress since E.T.

The only thing people used to say I'd eat that was weird would be mustard on white grapes. It's pretty good. Kind of tastes like sweet and sour sauce.

Well, it's been awhile... but obviously Ayeka doesn't have that faux-accent she does in the English dub. I think the problem with that accent is that it makes her seem too proper. When combined with her personality it just makes her come off even more snobby than she normally would. At least in my opinion. I can't say I prefered one over the other... but I did much prefer Tenchi's Japanese voice. He doesn't sound as dull heh. How that many girls can like a guy that sounds like that, I have no idea.

I really don't get the worry over this. People are acting as if this is based on the grades of a student. It's based on a new set of a assessment tests, and in the case of High School, they only have to be taken once between 10th and 12th grade. All it currently covers is reading skills. If a kid is that far ahead in school, I think it's safe to say that they're not going to have much trouble with basic reading comprehension. This isn't targetting kids that are getting Ds on an average basis, it's targetting kids who simply shouldn't be there in the first place on even a basic level.... and it's not punishing them either, it's an attempt to help them because people understand the system isn't as good as originally thought. There's such a basic misunderstanding of how this works anyway. Let's say it's decided your school isn't above this so-called minimum. They don't just close it. They mark it as "needing improvement" before the school year ends and begin a two year program to help improve the school. Extra help is given to those who need it academically as well as low-income families. It is required that students be given the option to transfer to a school that does not need improvement at this point. It's not like you'll suddenly be broadsided by the idea that your school is having a problem. You won't be in your Senior year and suddenly all your work means nothing. Besides, this is such a long process. After the third year, tutoring services are provided to low-income families and students are still given the option to be transfered. After the fourth, some members of the staff of the school will be replaced and new curriculum will be instated. If it doesn't fix itself after five whole years (which is quite a while for anyone currently in these schools... you'd be graduated from that highschool before then), they'll basically start the school over from scratch. Replace the staff almost entirely, etc. So I don't really know where anyone gets these ideas. People are making it sound like if a single student is doing poorly, everyone is screwed and the school is almost instantaneously forgotten. It doesn't work like that. Hell, the test results are broken down into race and situation of each child, so I severely doubt anything will happen in terms of handicapped children or anyone else who obviously can't be held to the same standards. They can easily be taken into account. After the tests are given, the lowest demographic is considered a starting point. It's the responsibility of the school to raise these children to a certain level after two years of work (which I doubt is all that high). The idea is that as children get better, the bar can be raised -- causing children to be better in school on average. So yeah, I can see how this could cause problems for some schools in the future. However, the problems being cited in here aren't even issues for the most part. Read the documentation on the law first. Considering some of the opinions placed in here, you'd think information on it was nonexistant. On the contrary, it's all over the place. I can't believe how off some of these comments are.

Don't even bother to argue it. This is brought up time and time again by various people and there is nothing logical that ever justifies the opinion. People use "poseur" and "sell out" for everything lately. I can't even think of many bands I'd consider to be sell outs. Hell, if you want to consider Evanescence one, you might as well consider every band that gets signed by a major label one.

I was always more partial to Ayeka. Yes, she was kind of annoying and overly jealous... but when Ryoko wasn't around, she was hardly a problem. I used to be pretty into this show. I actually own the entire subtitled set of Tenchi Universe tapes. I've been trying to get rid of them for awhile, but no one ever wants them heh.

I thought the best Animated Feature award only appears when there were enough new animated films released to justify it being a category? I expect it to appear this year, but who knows.
