Excited for the next part of the trilogy of Lord of the Rings
Anna replied to kelz_world's topic in Noosphere
>_< Gah, I need to actually finish the books...... I'm still in Fellowship! I haven't read since Christmas for crying out loud..... :p Well, I think I'm going to go download that trailer now so I can torture myself. -
I agree with Adam's concept. Leaders ought to have a sincere desire to better the world, or at least the small portion of the community they have domain over. And we shouldn't give up ALL hope of having good leaders; whereever there's a corrupt politician, there's a good one.... somewhere. ^_^ At least it's an optimist view of things.....

Heck yeah, I'm totally STOKED to see the next LOTR movie. It's going to be WARP 10 TO THE MAX DUDE! lol... nevermind me.... -
If you could be eneyone on Otaku Boards, who would you be?
You're one to talk about being annoying.
THAT was completely uncalled for. She stated her opinion which does have fact to it. I don't even think Neil himself would argue that he doesn't ever go around picking apart other people's posts and try to make them look stupid. And yeah, most of the time and what I've seen is rude. What I am finding VERY annoying is the continous spam in this thread; but yet you have to make a snide comment to someone who has only posted maybe once or twice in this whole MODERATOR-forsaken thread. I look forward to this getting closed soon... -
Those pieces of crap insulting us because we like the greatest bans ever to exist!
Calm down, little dude. lol...... no one's insulted Metallica in this thread as far as I know, it'll be alright. Breathe! Heh, I already went through my own Metallica phase....... 4.5 years ago..... and now that I've moved on my musical tastes have broadened. I just hope none of you avid fans are cutting yourself short of other good music out there.

I hear ya, Piro. I have to confess that I watched some of the last season of Real World, though. Of course, this was when there was NOTHING else on tv and there were no good books to read and I was tired of the internet. Nonetheless I have watched it, as well as some bits and pieces from previous seasons of Real World. (btw, Real World is the only reality tv show I've ever watched-period. Never seen Survivor, never seen "Big Brother" or whatever it's called... it's just stupid... my own life is real enuff for me, thanks). Anywho, I did like Tonya. It bothers me when people bash her, I mean no one except her has ANY clue of what she was exposed to when she lived in foster homes all her life. I mean maybe some of the things that bothered her during the show are stigma that stemmed from things she was exposed to when she was younger. Give her a break, she had the hardest life out of the whole cast for cryin out loud.
well did she kill him? you can dismember but you shouldn't kill. if the person deserves to die then the authorities should kill him. come on now!
I can see where you're coming from, and that's what I would do preferably........ but um, if someone is coming at me with a knife and I have maybe 1.5 seconds to react, I'm not going to take the time to consider what vital organs to avoid if I could lash back at them. I would just worry about making sure I don't get murdered, and if the assailant happens to live then great, but I'm not going to go through a lot of care and effort to ensure so. ^_^

"Metallica rules!" "Metallica rocks!" "METALLICAAAAAA!!!! :gives the devil sign and grits/bares teeth:" lol.... some of you people trip me out.... Yeah I like Metallica. They're not my favorite, but they are a good band. I like quite a few of their songs, and I give them props for lasting so long. But I don't think they "rule" *ducks chairs and glass bottles being thrown at her*, they're just good. :p
-
lol......... I liked "Friday" as well, and the intro to "Running Out" is nice and rather up-tempo,... the only song I don't really prefer is "Perfect Dream"... I dunno, I just don't. But I agree with you, they need a little more bite to some of their stuff...... hopefully their album will show more variety.

Anime which is your favorite Nadesico character
Anna replied to vegeta rocker's topic in Otaku Central
Ah, a topic I know a little something about. ^_^ I like Akito..... Yurika gets on my nerves, but she's cute.... that other chick that likes Akito, the on with the purple hair-I can't stand HER even more than Yurika-I guess 'cause I want Yurika and Akito to get together ^-^;;; Yeah whatever, I have a sappy side alright? Anyway, actually Yurika's not that bad..... Actually I like her alright. I lied. Okay, now that that's out of the way...... um, I guess that's about it... I've only seen 6 volumes so it's not like I have a lot of in-depth knowledge about all the characters. AND NO ONE SPOIL THE ENDING! please. :toothy: -EDiT- And Susan, it's "Ruri", not "Rori". Just thought you should know. -
:therock:............ I told you it was mellow........... definately not the mainstream stuff, of any genre. I wouldn't really expect you to like it, Piro :smirk: but I just hope some people here give it a chance for goodness sake. Yeah it's different, but that doesn't mean it isn't good. Take Dave Matthews Band..... I don't like them, **BUT** they are extremley talented; they're very good musicians and have a sound that's hard to copy. What I'm getting at with that is even though a lot of you may not be into this type of music, just go a try a song out.... preferably So Fast, that's their best one in my opinion.
-
You know, I would've argued about that with you before. But then I started hanging around here...
lol!! :rotflmao: heheh....... I see what you mean...
-
Anyone heard of them yet? They're new and haven't even released a cd beyond the EPs they have at their shows. I discovered them at mp3.com. Their sound is like........ well, it's mellow. I want to say pop, but's more like... alternative pop???? Gah... they just have nice sound about them-to me. Not meaning to spam now, but their site is http://www.goldspot.net I've put it up here so you can hear for yourself. My favorite is "So Fast"... it's so pretty, it has a quality to it that isn't heard in a lot of contemporary music nowadays...
-
Yeah really, I mean don't bash it until you see what it's all about. Now I can see how some people didn't want to read all that, but then you really shouldn't have replied to something that you haven't actually read. :whoops:

Mmmkay, I've only skimmed through these posts, so no one cut my throat or anything. Anywho I think that ratings are suitable for most. Typically kids don't really mature 'til they're about 16 (at least that's what I have observed), so I don't see a problem. And anyway, when you finally do get to be 17, you appriciate it more. :)

Oh geez, it wasn't intended to be taken seriously... lol. I thought it was funny..... I still like the "nurture hat" analogy....... I'll hafta remember that....... :mrt:

Yes, gaming is more male oriented.... I think that depsite all the girls that are into gaming already, it's probably going to take a while for the numbers to set in. I wasn't directing the "boys only" comment to you, btw, I was being general on how some people still think. And while there may be some truth to stereotypes, there are always exceptions, which make stereotypes faulty and why I always try to avoid them.
Originally posted by Justin The boy was old enough to understand his emotions, his actions, and the consequences of the two. I've wanted to kill out of rage before. I think everyone has a time when the want to. But most people know not to and don't
Yeah, everyone has their choice and accountability. Piro, I see where you're coming from, I just want you to know that. It's just that there have been plenty of worse parents out there than that dad, and the kids of those parents don't kill their parents. Sure they may have damage, but it's a part of growing up. I know I have my own scars from my own dad, and I tell you, if my dad were from Korea he would be an EXACT replica of this deceased father. Yeah, it sucks. But I'm not going to kill him, even though I have literally snapped in front of him..... it was weird, too.... like, even though I was still conscious of the situation, my mind went numb, like it shut off and I just sat there shaking and crying and couldn't see anything in front of me, and I couldn't speak if I wanted to. But I wouldn't have killed him, I couldn't have. I may have buried anger, but I've matured in how to control it. Murdering his dad-AND his grandmother (which I completely forgot about)-in unexcusable. Especially his grandmother! That poor woman..... right there he ought to have stepped back and see what he had done.... his grandmother was probably completely defenseless....
Originally posted by Solid Snake Well, you have to consider the actions taken by the victom and the suspect before the crime. It's near, if not more, important to the crime itself. :) :blah:
Not necessarily. Murder is only justifiable by self-defense. The dad may have said a lot of stuff, but the kid wasn't in danger. Other than that the law doesn't care if Sally Sue over here just had it with her mom because her mom always told her she was fat, the law doesn't care if Billy was angry because his girlfriend dumped him for his brother, or if this kid had had it with his dad because he was super-strict: killing is wrong. Period. End of that discussion. What if someone just got so mega-pissed at you and decided they'd had enough of your b.s., so they're gonna blow you away? Is that fair? Heck no. Self-defense is the ONLY semi-excuse for murder. In my previous post about that girl who shot her father because she 'had it' with him raping her all the time, she got life without parole....... and that was self-defense! You think the law would go easy on this punk just because his father lectured him? Personally, I'd take some mental anguish and lengthy lectures than sexual abuse. But that's just me. Point is this kid *really* didn't have it so bad. Okay, if this father didn't care about his son and was just sooooo mean, would he have bothered with the extreme expenses of sending him to schools across an ocean? Have any idea what a financial burden that would be? But the father did it anyway........ I'd be bloody mad, too, if my son threw all that right back in my face after I tried to give him opportunites like that. And yeah, I'd probably give him a lecture or two of my own! Now obviously we don't have the whole picture of who this son and this father really was, but from what I see, it's a typical Asian father hoping his son can become like him, successful. You know what, I bet it's the American school system that corrupted the boy's learning. Public schools and even some private schools are way more lax than Asian schools. Anyway, I still say it's the son's fault.
-
While parents are strict and abusive in many sorts of ways, it's still point-blank wrong that the son murdered his father. Killing, violence, it never solves anything; once one problem is 'taken care of', another one is waiting behind it, thus the son is in jail and facing heavy charges. I wonder if he prefers the jail wardens to his father's lectures? Especially in Asia......... they're MUCH tougher than ones here. Lectures and the average strictness of standards definately add stress to a child's life and will no doubt have a lasting affect, but it doesn't justify murder. The ONLY scenario in which I think murder of a parent is justifiable is when there is physical abuse and constant danger of the child ceasing to live, like a case I saw once on tv about a girl who shot her father after he had raped her for over 11 years (she was 18 at that time) and beat her sister since she was like, 6 or something. THAT, I think, is a little more serious than lectures. Not to say this other kid wasn't frustrated-trust me, I can relate, my own father's character is actually quite similar... super-smart scholar and everything...-but the father didn't deserve that. The kid should have moved out and made his own life. Everyone has to at some time anyway.
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy Maybe you do like Anime and games. The fact of the matter is, you're not interested enough in either to discuss them on an even remotely daily basis. So, I'm not too far from wrong, now am I? :p
lol...... that's because I don't like "discussing" games.... I prefer to play them... This is getting to be too much an 'Anna' issue, but I will say this- I only visit the General Discussion forum on a daily basis. That has nothing to do with my level of interest in games or anime, as I entertain any interest I have for the two at other sites beyond this one. What I only do here is not a fair standard to judge by, as there are plenty of other sites on the net I go to, and I also have my console and anime tapes/DVDs that are not on these boards. Now to your point, yes games and anime are geared toward boys more than girls, but that doesn't mean a lot of girls don't have a place in that industry. It's not just boys buying the games, there's plenty of unrecognized females out there who are consumers as well. Of course they aren't focused on, though. But just because girls aren't screaming and running around telling the world they play video games doesn't mean that's it's "boys only" either.
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy But, for you girls complaining, I have this to say: I barely see any females in Gaming Otaku. I noticed Mist recently, but that's about it.
So? I don't ever go into General Anime either, does that mean I don't like anime now? General Discussion is the only forum I regularly visit, how does that mean I don't like video games because I never visit Gaming Otaku?

What I'm kind of catching in terms of "drift" here is that a girl isn't accepted as much and liked if she's "girly". Or maybe I made that up, but I think I'll still address this anyway. If some girls like shopping and wear cute clothes, wear make-up, and go out with guys it doesn't make them shallow. This also applies to guys whose only hobbies are athletics, they're not "dumb jocks" just because of their interests. The act of judging someone based on only what you see is shallow and dumb. So be careful on how you critique others. If any of you saw me at first glance, you'd see cute clothes and a girly appearance. Would you then automatically mark me off from liking punk music, being a drummer, and liking video games? Might want to think about that....
Originally posted by wrist cutter What does that even mean? I've never understood that saying.
I guess a mix of sarcasm, dry wit, and plain silliness. At least that's how I've always interpreted it. I don't know why it's called "tongue-in-cheek" myself though. Perhaps you have to bite your tongue in the process........
