Jiminy. Everyone in this thread has been here since I was active. Do new people even register here, anymore? (Hi N. Hi Shy.)
Adam recently upgraded the backroom to make submitting stuff easy to do. Just go into your backroom and underneath the dark blue portals that Sara was referring to, are the controls for your account.
Oh, thank goodness for that.
hey guys i'm new to theotaku.com and i'm been working on my manga i just got the cover done and i wanted to post it but i dont know how to go about getting it in my portfolio i have an account and every thing. Do i need to fork out the 30 bucks to get the perimium account to put up my drawings and manga. any help would be great.Thank you HakuHiddenMist
On the main theOtaku page, across the top, is a dark blue bar with "Portals" "News" "Fanart" "Fancomics," etc. Click on "Fancomics." Below the dark blue bar is a light blue bar with "All Fandom" "Anime/Manga" "Video Games," etc. At the far right of this bar is a link that says "Submit." Click on that. Hit the "Create a new series" button, and start uploading. I've had trouble navigating the site, too, so you're not alone. Some aspects aren't very intuitive.
I'm part emo. :catgirl:
What, is it a race now? This thread gives me the willies.
And on that note, MP3 Player? Seriously? Such a clunky, clumsy-sounding phrase. I'd much rather use "acorn" or "piglet."
"Hey, what did you get for Christmas?" "Oh, man! My dad got me this awesome new acorn!" "WOW! Lemme see! I wanted an piglet, but my dad thinks I'll listen to it during class. Can I try yours?"
(And I agree with A_M; bringing up Africa is essentially a cop-out. Why is it no one ever brings up the problems in Azerbaijan? Why is Africa so damned important? :p I call foul on the grounds of attempting to pull heartstrings with the intent to distract from the argument.)
Your glib attempt at humor does not lend you credence in this discussion. 20% of all adults in the nation of South Africa are infected by HIV/AIDS. That is one out of every five people. In Nigeria, HIV/AIDS has caused the average life expectancy of women to drop eight years from what it was in 1991. HIV/AIDS is a huge, crippling epidemic in many African countries. Uganda, twenty years ago--at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic--initiated a three-tier program telling people how to prevent HIV infection:
The programme promoted the ABC approach (abstain, be faithful, use condoms), ensured the safety of the blood supply and started HIV surveillance.
The program, arguably, worked. The current prevalence of HIV/AIDS is estimated at just 5.4%. Uganda's fight against AIDS is considered a success story. Let me say that again: a country where one out of every twenty adults has HIV/AIDS is considered a success story. [Source] By contrast, HIV/AIDS prevalence in Azerbaijan is estimated at 0.1%. [Source] That's why Africa's so damned important. ------- I guess my thoughts on Sex-Ed come down to this: Should religious organisations distribute condoms? I think it would be great if they did, but not doing so is their prerogative. If you're convinced that giving someone "this right here" piece of information will cause someone to sin, to hurt themself, or to hurt others, then I think by your own standards you've got a moral obligation not to give them "this right here" piece of information. If, on the other hand, you think that giving someone "this right here" piece of information could save that person expense, heartbreak, their physical well-being, or their life, I'd say you've got a pretty big moral obligation to distribute "this right here" piece of information as quickly and as widely as you can. I respect the right of others not to distribute "this right here" piece of information on their religious or moral grounds. But you can be darn sure that I'd like the same respect for my decision--based on my religious and moral beliefs--to distribute said information as much as I can.
Nowadays since women's equality has been settled (Anyone who wants to start a new thread stating otherwise I will be happy to throw my two cents in on the issue.). So when you look at the bulk of younger gils nowadays, (Now this next point doesn't include the wonderful young women of Otakuboards), they're only interested in attaining the attention of boys, dressing like "movie stars", which of course means dressing like whores, wearing make-up much to young.
Nice try, but your sexism is showing.
The question though, did we Americans as a whole share some of the blame? Yes. This IS the government that America voted for this IS the administration that we approved of. Perhaps people did not take the responsibility of voting or understanding that we share the responsibility of our government. We elected them, we gave them our consent to lead us. I felt terribly for those people, and I also feel bad that I can't 'honor' them like others.
You feel like you can't 'honor' civilians who died in a terrorist attack because they, like the rest of their countrymen, were citizens of a country whose government was to blame for the attacks? I agree that Americans as a whole should take much greater interest in the way their county is run, and that they should do what they can to change what can be changed. Even so, your argument comes off as being unnecessarily inflammatory. I also think you'll find that most members will disagree with you on this point:
"This IS the government that America voted for this IS the administration that we approved of."
Political leanings (and country citizenship) aside, I think the majority of OtakuBoards members were under the legal voting age in 2004, nevermind the year 2000.
Actually, the pro-choice stance is really a waste of words. Any time a woman becomes with child, she has to choose one way or the other (minor-age status aside, partially), and there is really no one else who can make the decision for her. Not even the Unborn has a say in its survival; it is completely up to the woman. In fact, 'right' has little to do with the issue at all, for the woman has no choice but to choose one or the other.
There are legislators who would be happy to take that choice away.
There are upsides and downsides to this, the obvious being the negative and positive aspects of a sudden surge of people with an interest in OB flooding in and posting.
This needs to happen. I can't think of anything better for this site than a huge influx of new visitors.

Imagine the stale, sticky, strongly-smelling residue from the bottom of your mother's spice cupboard. Now imagine drinking it. -
I've had an excavation (like James, a molar to make room for my wisdom teeth), and it freaked me out a lot more.
I was surprised when I saw James's post, and even more so now that I've seen yours. Until just now I had never heard of anyone having teeth removed to make way for wisdom teeth. The general pattern in my area seems to be: "There's not enough room for your wisdom teeth. They will not fit in your mouth, so they will come in crooked and at weird angles, if at all. We will then chloroform you and yank them out. You will be in pain for the next week."

I'm kind of surprised that I couldn't find a thread on this. Who else has watched it? (If you haven't seen it yet, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is a short supervillain comedy musical. It was created by Joss Whedon and co., and it's pretty much the best way to kill forty minutes of your life that I've found this summer. It's currently online for free viewing (click!), so if you haven't watched it yet, you should.)
Psycho (1960): This scared the holy hell out of me when I first saw it (I was probably about 10 or 11). Anthony Perkins ... man, I just spent five minutes trying to think of a way to construct this sentence, and I can't do his acting justice. He's utterly frightening and sympathetic at the same time; who doesn't feel for Norman Bates the first time he or she sees him? The guy's such a nervous dork. But, um, I'm pretty sure we all know how that ends up lol.
I know this has come up before, but I have a huge crush on Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates. He offers her sandwiches! And milk!
"I'm off like a bride's nightie" (in reference to packing up and going home for the day)
Ha! My favorite is "off like a prom dress," which is the same thing, but with connotations of underage fornication, rather than The Holy Bed of Marriage.
Another dialect difference is 'mango'. In the midwest states mostly they call the green pepper a mango.
? I was born and raised in the Midwest, and I have never heard a green pepper called anything but a green pepper, or "mango" used to refer to anything but the tropical fruit or the related color. Pop vs. Soda is a big debate every September where I live... the freshmen come into the dorm and all hell breaks loose when the Minnesotans and the Wisconsinites meet each other and inevitably clash over carbonated beverages. Minnesotans I know also call the children's game Duck, Duck, Goose, "Duck, Duck, Grey Duck." Believe you me, that can throw you for a loop. And one sort of ATM is the Tyme Machine, and you'd better believe that heads roll whenever that one comes up. "What, do you need to travel to the future to get your cash? It's a freaking ATM, where are you from?"
Well then, sounds like I'm going to see it! After all, I like humanity when it's not sold out.
So the collective orgasm of the reaction in this thread wasn't enough to convince you, but one more spurt tipped the scale? I'm baffled.
"Ha. To bad he one the bet."
If I were walking through a graveyard looking for interesting names and dates (as one does), and I happened to see this on a marker, my life would effectively be made. It is cryptic
(heh...cryptic)
both orthoraphically and (as a result) syntactically, to say nothing of the unspecified nature of the bet itself. I don't think it would be going too far to say that this epitaph would haunt me for the rest of my life.

I am exceptionally fond of grapes. They're a wonderful combination tart, sweet, cold, and fresh. Unfortunately, sometimes you get a bad grape, and that ruins the experience. I also make a lot of smoothies. Food tends to be more fun after it's gone through teh blender.

Lunox, that is simultaneously impressive and alarming. On another note, hot bacon wrapped around slices of cold, crisp Granny Smith apple is surprisingly delicious.

I have a related question that maybe someone can help me with: What's the inverse(?) of a patron saint? If Catherine is my patron, what am I to her? Is there a term for it?

Two of my favorite movies are Stardust and The Princess Bride, so if anyone can come up with other movies in the High Fantasy/Comedy/Romance/Adventure genre, I'd love to hear them. I'd say that Labyrinth fits as well.
Haha, I know *exactly* what you're talking about.
If scrubs taught me anything, if it works out as friends, it won't work out well as a couple.
Even if the characters on Scrubs were real people, I would be hesitant about taking dating advice from any of them. Fact: Dumping someone expressly to go out with someone else is a jerk of a thing to do. Fact: If you're constantly thinking about the other young woman in this situation, it's not fair to your current girlfriend. I think you need to put your relationships on hold and reevaluate what you want before you continue to lead either of these young ladies on.
Regarding self-esteem vs. academic success, I think the point raised by the article is this: If higher self-esteem doesn't raise the scores, why focus on it in school?[/b']

I think another equally important question would be, if they didn't focus on it or at least try to keep kids from quitting, would the scores go down? So perhaps they're looking at the wrong angle to this whole deal.
It also begs the question of whether test scores accurately reflect learning.
