Actually, I think it is about self-development, as an individual. Putting yourself in one corner with a bunch of quasi-depressed children does not really help improve that.
I thought about editing that as soon as the post went up, but I didn't think anyone would call me on it. Darnit, Boo. I'm not saying that it's a good thing to "put yourself in a corner" or to find that you "want" to be depressed in order to fit in. But I do think it's important that people have something to hang on to, and a lot of people aren't strong enough to strike out on their own?much less, strong enough to do that as a young teen. Obviously, ideally you'd stick things out and learn a lot about yourself in the process, but getting the will to do that takes time. And in the mean time, I am much happier with the idea of a dozen kids wearing tight pants and eyeliner getting through high school by angsting about their lives as a group, than I am with the possible alternative of at least one of those dozen kids, alone, being convinced that his life is hopeless, no one understands, and that he really should kill himself. I guess my point is this: Depression is real, and it affects a lot of high schoolers. Suicide is also real and, sadly, also affects a lot of high schoolers. I think that kids who feel they belong to something--even an angst-ridden music and fashion trend--are less likely to actually pull the trigger, take the pills, or drive off the road.

How important is it to you to play a character in an RPG? (That is, play a specific character, rather than generally contribute to the overall story while writing for several characters.) And from that, how important is it to play a character that you have created? Would you rather play a canon character from an existing story, or play a character that the OP of the RPG has created? Please don't reply to this as a numbered survey. I'd just like to hear some thoughts on the topic. My questions are just to get the conversation going.
I have but one criticism: The dark blue one-pixel line on her right calf doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the picture. I think it's because the other lines are so thick and smooth, this one stands out a little.
Yeah, it is kind of out of place. There were a lot more lines like that earlier, but I deleted them--that one must snuck in on a different layer. And yeah, a lot of my sketches lately have had that jaunty look so well used in the Hercules movie/series. It's a lot of fun to draw. =] The peacock is my favorite part of this.
Your choice seems bonehead, but I wouldn't call Ninja Sex frigid. And as a self proclamed sado-masochist, I'd take the Ninja sex! You do know that young ninjas are more likely to get away with sex than young pirates! And ninjas do use beds and can find isolated places where sound doesn't matter, to you audio-oriented people! your choice was based on a single situation! Ninjas are the masters of mastering situations! If you can't do it here, go somewhere you can!!!

If you're into S&M, pirate sex will be better for you anyway, because pirates are more than willing to get down and dirty. They've got chains, whips, shackles, etc, which fit into a bondage theme a hell of a lot better than throwing stars, grappling hooks, smoke bombs and katana blades. Pirates are clearly the superior here.
I think Papa Smurf and his pirates come out the winner here.
I mean, they should really like they starting enviorment, middle class, semi rich white kids....big house...spare house down the street...fast cars ....they get into the schools that are nearly inpossible to get into. ...and what do they do? wear tight girl pants, a scarf, big black rimmed glasses, and whine how their lives suck, albeit they have a good income status.
People are entitled to wear whatever clothes they like. I personally dig the glasses. =] On a more serious note, depression doesn't only affect those in the lower class income bracket. I had some pretty dark days in high school, and I felt all the more miserable because by all rights--as a middle class white girl going to a private school--I had nothing to complain about. I knew that, and not only did it not change the fact that I was depressed, it made me feel worse about myself. Not good times. No, you shouldn't wallow in depression, but people do that regardless of the music they listen to. If the emo music trend reminds kids with problems that they are not the only ones who are having a rough time, I think that's a Good Thing. "This band is the only group of people who understand how I feel" is a step up from "No one in the world knows what I am going through," and finding people--via music interests or fashion sense--who feel the way you do is what growing up (and living) is all about.

This is a doodle I've been playing with. The face there isn't the final version, and I know the leg is a little wonky right now. Anyway, I've stared at it by myself long enough, and I'd like some other people's thoughts on it.
I thought the ending could have been done much better. It just left you hanging a bit. Like, what happened to the world? To Story? The ending though... blehh, it left you guessing too much. Anyone feel the same who's already seen it?
Absolutely not. The ending was perfect--any more explanation would have been cheesy and unnecessary. You already know a lot of what happens
to at least part of the world
, and you know that everyone
who needed something more in life, who was searching for something to believe in
, found it. It's a fairy tale--they tell you what is going to happen when they speak about what happens in the bedtime story.
Story goes back to the Blue World, is welcomed and celebrated. Life goes on in the Blue World, and in ours.
I adored this movie.
And that, as they say (they being the Morlocks) is that.[/size']
I'm really happy that you clarified that.

What would you outlaw in your fascist dictatorship?

I will ban popcorn. Microwave popcorn. Kettle corn. Caramel corn. Cheese popcorn. Those giant obnoxious tins of popcorn that they sell at Christmas. Overpriced popcorn at the movie theatre. I hate the taste, I hate the texture, and the smell makes me sick. No more popcorn. -
I don't watch a lot of TV, but I occasionally catch an episode of That 70's Show. I like it a lot; it's funny and easy to get into. It's especially funny to me because the show takes place when and where (as much as this show has a "where") my parents went to high school.

I don't recall what before which movie I saw the first Lady in the Water preview, but I was watching it with my friend Dave. The first part of the trailer focused on the man (the caretaker?) and the kind of quiet, sad life he seemed to have. Then you saw flashes of the mermaid in the pool, and at the end you saw the director's name. My friend voiced my thoughts: "That movie just went from being interesting, to dumb, to really interesting again."

There are actually a ton of people here who love to roleplay. There's even an entire section of the boards dedicated to it. =] I bet you can find some people over there who will start a game with you.

This is false. =] The person below me enjoys pina coladas and getting caught in the rain. =]
I considered that too, but if that were the case, [spoiler']that'd make it far too easy to bring people back in the POTC realm. If someone has the ability to raise the dead, she'd be much more popular and handy around the Caribbean than just putting herself out on all the guys who trespass her swamp ("I thought I knew you...").

Well, it also seemed that the crew was none-too-happy about being there. I get the feeling she is not always so benevolent. It is not everyone who handily has an
undead monkey
to offer for barter. =]

True. It is a frightening experience for all involved, particularly when it occurred back in my more subdued days. One might argue it was a complete (and unexpected) transformation. The person below me is desperately in love with a dashing (or lovely) young movie star, but fears that he or she is fated by the stars to die lonely and alone.

This is true. =] The person below me ate nother but peanut-butter and bologna sandwiches for lunch throughout his or her entire grade-school career.

Most vehemently untrue! Cherry Coke is possibly The Perfect Soda. The person below me once caught a fish which granted him or her three wishes. The wishes were foolishly wasted, canceling one another out, but the person below me still lives in peaceful contentment.

During the school year, I attend classes, volunteer, and occasionally attempt to hold down a job. During the summer, I loaf about the house, volunteer, and occasionally attempt to hold down a job. I like reading, but I've gotten out of the habit.

That is unfortunately untrue. The person below me was left on a doorstep at a very young age by his or her desperate mother, who was at the time an international fugitive and being persued by no less than thirty armed guards. The person below me was then raised by the kindly couple on whose doorstep he or she was placed, until the person below me reached the age of fifteen at which point TPBM learned the true story of his or her birth and set out on a dangerous journey in order to find his or her true family. If the person below me is under the age of fifteen, this post is automatically true.
