Molleta, I want to say again that I think you're incredibly brave and strong person, and I entirely support your decision. I can only imagine how difficult that would be, and I hope I never need to find out. I doubt I would act as well as you have. It's wonderful that you're able to maintain contact with the family. I hope everything goes well between you.

On the other hand, hamburgers are still hamburgers if they're not from Hamburg. (Err... maybe moreseo.) But I do think Dagger and Azure put it best. Anime is japanese animation. That definition may broaden and change, especially as people look to clump similar shows and themes, but it really doesn't need to. Right now, the fandom tends to assume that only Anime is good; therefore, any good animated show must be Anime. That's really not the case, and I think it's a shame that more people don't express interest in animation in a more open-minded way.

An arm, a leg and half a foot: the gas price thread
Sara replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
It's frustrating, but more than anything else, it makes me glad that I don't drive at all during the school year. Holy moly. I really appreciate the transit system in Minneapolis, too. I don't plan on buying a car until I'm out of college. If gas were half the price, I'd probably consider it, but I don't have enough need to justify owning a vehicle. (Because if I had one, I'm sure it would be used more for convenience than need.) -
Okay, I'm new here i have a lot of great anime fanfics and fan art but dont know where to post them. Have any suggestions or insights?
Welcome to OtakuBoards! Art can be posted in the Art Studio forum, and fanfics can be posted in the Anthology forum. (You can access both of these places from the main page.) Make sure you read any stickies before you begin posting, as most areas of the site have forum-specific rules. If you have any further questions, feel free to PM myself or another moderator. More general questions about the site can be posted in the Suggestions forum, as well. Since your question has been answered (hopefully), I'm going to close this thread.

This isn't the place for fanfiction, unfortunately. If you'd like to repost this, do so in the Anthology forum. Read the stickies there before posting, or that thread will be closed as well. On another note, the carriage return is your friend. Use paragraphs.

When I was younger, and not so very long ago, I had a dreadful paranoia that set in after dark each night. The smallest things would creep me out, and send me running for covers. My bedroom was on the second floor of my old house. To get back to it at night after going downstairs to use the bathroom or get a drink, I'd have to climb a very old (read: creaky) twisted staircase, and pass three other rooms. One of the rooms was my brother's. That one was easy. The last room was a storage closet with a door that was always closed....easy, again. But the door right at the top of the stairs was always open to a darker-than-dark place we called the Sewing Room. (Mom kept her sewing and craft stuff there.) Even during the day with the lights on, this room was dim. At night, though, it was practically a black hole. Not only that, but it was a long, narrow, deep room?it ran the full length of the top floor, parallel to the hall that my room was in (and actually, it ran next to my room, as well.) Pitch black and deep... anything could be hiding in there. I don't think I ever walked to bed after 10 at night. And I never looked into the room itself. I would get to the top of the stairs, take a deep breath, and close my eyes. If I could, I would walk past the darkened door... But sometimes, I'd break into a run before I passed it, and I'd almost always sprint the last few steps to my room (and jump into bed, careful not to touch the floor just in front of it, or look underneath it) and pull a blanket over my head. I never really got over it. Who else has had the nighttime spooks?
She thought Inuyasha was a girl just cause he has long hair.
Heck, I thought Inuyasha was a girl. Face it, he's just feminine. :p Not by anime standards, but most anime guys are of slimmer stock than their western counterparts. I mean, compare Batman to Kenshin.
P.S Gavin, whenever you say 'interesting, most interesting' in front of your post it makes me want to hurt you.
Quoted for truth. :) If you're interested in another community event, you can also kip on over to the Art Studio where Dagger's got an official graphics tournament going on.

Welcome to OtakuBoards, bay. Good to have you here with us today. I'm fairly certain you're talking about a music group, so I am going to move this to the Music, Movies, and TV forum, where I think it is better suited. Before you continue posting, you need to read our rules. We have fairly high standard of post-quality at OtakuBoards, and your post is unfortunately difficult to follow. If you expect other people to take the time to read your post, please take the time to punctuate it correctly. When you start a thread, you will also find it helpful to give some information on the topic. Explain what you are talking about. Offer a line of discussion. Questions that can be answered in a simple "yes" or "no" usually do not merit making a new thread. If you have questions, feel free to PM myself or another moderator.

Anime Wow... they're just like me!: Characters you identify with
Sara replied to Balinese's topic in Otaku Central
I know a song from 3 doors down that is called hit the floor. :animesigh So. . .I'm bored. . .If you want to tell me what you are talking about, then you can. . . :demon: I am a demon. . .(Just Kiding). . .I'm new. . .
Hello there. If you'd like to post in a thread, please include something of relevance to the topic at hand. I urge you to read our rules before you post again. More posts made in the manner of this one (utterly random and without a point) will get you banned very quickly. A reminder to everyone that attempts at post-quality are a must. If you consistantly submit poor-quality or off-topic posts, you may be banned without warning. -
While it's possible that this may return in the future, the next big event is already in place in the Community Events forum. Go check it out. :)

We're in somewhat of a transitional period, staffing-wise, right now. Hopefully everything will settle into place shortly. Solo stepped down fairly recently, at the beginning of this month.
The fact is that anime is so much more advanced then a regular cartoon it is hard to mix them up. more blood, deeper themes, complex stories, and extensive character development. For example, Avatar's story is cliched, has no blood, no themes, and from what I have seen, no character development. The big-eyed style may be able to be compied, but the complexity can not.
Well, Japan certainly doesn't have a monopoly on complex storytelling, lol. I can't really get into specific instances, as I don't watch much TV of any kind, but I think complexity is really just a matter of the intended audience of the show. American cartoons tend to be aimed toward American kids with (conservative) American parents. And we all know Violence Is Bad. I also think that in most of these discussions, people tend to compare the best of anime with the worst of American animation. I mean, I've never heard anyone claim that "Those Who Hunt Elves" is better than "Gargoyles."
And I have a question aimed at you Lore How is telling mixed company that you persay, enjoy watching Hentai, or perverted anime setting oneself's up for ridicule? In my opinion, you should be made fun of, if you believe keeping it to yourself is the way to go. What's the point of doing something if your afraid to tell someone? :animeblus
Azure got it, although I think I see where you're coming from. However, I stand by my earlier point. People are not naturally open-minded. You know the saying "we fear what we do not understand"? Well, we make fun of it, too. If you don't want to be yelled at/derided/flamed, it's a simple matter of not telling the wrong people. I'm not saying it's right or wrong for people to get upset at others about sexual stuff, be it orientation, fetish, or porn-watching habits. I'm saying that it's going to happen regardless, and you have the option not to bring it up if that's the probable case.

My dad's side is Volga German, and the first paragraph of the wiki article I linked about sums them up. My mom's side... Well, I know she's part Irish, but I can never remember the other bits. But I'm American, pretty much. My relatives were all born in the states. I feel like I have closer ties to Michigan (the state I where I was born) than I do to Ireland or Germany, lol.
Nicknames:[/b'] Kev, Kevo, Kevi-Kevi, Webster, Kevster, Sisqo
I shall call you Kevlar. Actually I shan't, but it was fun to say. My name is Sara. It must have been a very popular girls' name 20 years ago, because I know many other girls my age who share my name. (In a class of just twenty-seven, I was one of three Sara(h)s.) It sometimes makes me feel common and not very pretty (well, when I was small), especially when compared to my sister's name: Carmen. (Granted, she had problems with being called Carmen Sandiego when that show was big. But I was called Sara(h) Plain and Tall by a lot of people, too, so I think it evens out.) I'm glad my name is spelled sans h, though, as I think it makes things look very simple and elegant. ` My middle name is Jean, which is also a very common middle name among girls my age. (Most girls in my class had their full names read off during our high school graduation ceremony, ugh. It added an extra five minutes onto the whole affair.) My longest-lasting 'net handle is cynic42, some form of which has been my email address for seven-or-so years. (This is long before I got any actual email, heh.) I had a very dark sense of humor at the time (and if you ask Azurewolf, I retain it), and I thought 'cynic' fit. The 42 is a remnant from my very first net handle (at all), but ultimately it comes from Hitchhiker's Guide. My current AIM handle is Stendahl405, which is straight out of an AWESOME short story by Ray Bradbury. It's called "Usher II," and it takes place in April 2005 of the Martian Chronicles. Stendahl is the main character's name, and 405 is of course for April 2005. I fell in love with the story (it's twisted and wonderful, you'd love it) the first time I read it, and made a new AIM handle that night. So it's probably two years old.
Some people don't like Yaoi or Yuri and because of that they call it "stupid" or "gay". But that's the way the world is. If one person doesn't like it, It's "gay".... :animeangr Stupid americans....
Maybe I'm missing something here, but if guy-on-guy sex isn't gay, what is?
well put AzureWolf :animesmil
Well put Azurewolf where? And why is a well putting anyone anywhere to being with? In any case, I think that one's hentai-watching habits should be kept largely to oneself. Unless you're talking with friends who don't mind, don't talk about it in mixed company. You're setting yourself up for ridicule, for one. And it's just politeness, honestly?most people don't want to know how you get yourself off. :p While it's not exactly nice on the other person's part, I doubt I would blame anyone for calling me a pervert if I randomly announced "I like to watch animated guys have sex!" o0 So yeah. If you like it, that's yer choice and preference. If you talk about it, you need to be aware that other people may not want to hear it. It may be impolite for them to ridicule or tease you, but it's equally impolite for you to give them unwanted mental images, especially out-of-the-blue.

I suggest you approach the problem in a rational and logical fashion. Unfortunately, given the evidence, it appears that such a tactic is out of the question. In the end, you'll have to decide whether your or not your friendship can survive such a huge difference of opinion over such a drastic topic. I hope you can weather the storm. Read our rules before you continue posting. Thread closed.

When posting in threads like this, please give your reasoning as well as your opinion. Anime titles alone just don't cut it. Thanks.

I'd really like to see a hub for Haibane Renmei, as I have a lot of homeless ecards right now, but I'm patient. As long as we get one eventually, I'll be happy with that. I've got some article in the works for that series, so I'd really like a place to showcase them when I'm done. And yeah, I really don't know why so many people suggested Inuyasha and Naruto.

Frankly, some of it is just for little kids. I don't see how anyone can refute that. However, a well-told story can be enjoyed by anyone?regardless of age or the medium through which the story is being told.

Keep it on topic, please, folks. There really are so many different styles of anime emerging (or already out) that calling something 'anime style' is almost something of a misnomer. When people refer to something as 'anime style,' they're going for the stereotypical Sailor Moon look--Big eyes, bigger hair, no nose, long legs, etc. Especially since many people's impression of anime comes from shows like Sailor Moon and Pokémon. And that's a pretty big part of the market. I don't think, however, that it dominates things, and that almost raises the question: If Teen Titans is anime, is Metropolis?

Azure, you saved this thread by the skin of your teeth, do you hear me? Little Slugger, read the RULES before you continue posting. Every single one of your posts thus far has been poor, and if you continue posting in your current fashion (uncapitalised, unpunctuated, incoherent, double-posting), you'll be banned immediately. userdan, there is not a need to reply to everything people say. Most of your posts in this thread are pointless and inflammatory. This is unnacceptable. Adjust your posting quality, or you, too, will be banned. You also need to remove one of the banners from your signature. Only one image (excluding on-site smilies) is allowed. Axel666, you also need to read the rules. Post on-topic, and with some level of quality. Miriellechan: I love you. Thank you for your intelligent post, you ROCK. I'm deleting the vast majority of posts from this thread. Let's try again, people.

Bet you it won't. Hi, Mutsume_Hina. Welcome to the Boards. Otaku Lounge is really a place for discussion, and not so much for word games. We don't have a place for things like that at the moment, although if you refine the rules a bit, and perhaps introduce a topic ("All posts must be about fruit."), this could probably fit in the OB Anthology forum. Ask the moderators there if it would be allowed. Good luck, and happy posting!
