1. Horoscopes are so incredibly general--aspects of them fit every person on the planet. I believe I'm an Aries. What that's supposed to say about me...well, I haven't a clue. Nor do I really care. Again, like Panda said, they're very broad. As for similarities between friends of the same sign--I'm honestly more like Miss Ginnylyn (Leo) than another friend who's an Aries. So I certainly don't see that evidenced in my life, either. In your case, I'd have to say that you're friends because you're very alike, regardless of star sign. ^_~ I'm going to leave this open for now, with a reminder that foreverinfinity is asking for opinions, not a copy-and-paste party.
  2. Welcome to OB. I'm sending this over to the lit forum for ya. Writings go there.
  3.
Also, I was wondering if it would be possible to include the time a myOtaku was updated, so we don't miss any posts in case they post again in the same day. x.x;*[/color']
But wouldn't it only show the last time it was updated, anyway? I think most people have their pages set to more than one post on the front page. I think James is the only person I sometimes miss due to multiple updates. What would be convenient is a link at the bottom of the page to perhaps the last update, or two or three. ------- April 10, 2004 Pretend this is a post update
This is an example post that will go on for a little bit because I'm trying to simulate an update, and most updates are usually a couple paragraphs long at least. Anyway, the idea is that there might be a default, or an option in the profile, that would allow for a couple links at the bottom of the page, right around the "Archives" link. Instead of just having an "Archives" link, there could also be a link to the first post or two that's fallen off the page. Not that you can't access them just as easily by clicking the archives link, but it would be a convenient way to see if there were posts that you missed, and provide a way to access them without having to check archives to see whether or not they exist.
Last updates: April 9, 2004 April 9, 2004 Archives ------- And that's my rambling for the day, heh.
  4. OtakuBoards are geared toward discussion. Venting is much better suited to the more personal set-up of myOtaku. Foreverinfinity, in the future please put more effort into the threads you start. Start off a discussion, don't just ask for input with a promise of another post later. Thanks.
  5. A gentle reminder to all that effort must be put into posts to prevent their deletion. As for me? I'm the mother of OB, of course. *laughs* I haven't had much time to post lately--other moderators know how that goes. I come because I've got something of a responsibility to make sure things go at least somewhat smoothly in the Prefecture (that title sounds so arrogant, heh), but also because I enjoy it. If I didn't, I'd be long gone. Like Shinmaru, I don't watch anime (although that's slowly changing, as I've fallen in with some dorky friends recently. :p) But I do enjoy OB....particularly the Prefecture and whatever the roleplaying section is called now. It's pretty cool to be able to look at the people I know now, and the people I used to know (several of whom are the same ragged group of friends) and see how things and people change. As geeky as it sounds, OB honestly does have a pretty nifty community thing going on--when you've been acquainted with someone for a couple years online, it's hard not to appreciate seeing them around. It's also great when we have new people hop in and revive things a bit--Panda, you're a great example. ^_~ So, yeah. I had some more things to say, but I'm being kicked off the computer by my kid brother. Some things never change. : p
  6. As there seems to be constant concern over this topic, I'd like to see if we can't keep all reports of art theft in one thread. This thread deals with plagiarism on theOtaku's Fanart site. If you have a complaint or report of stolen art, please submit the following:

myOtaku username of the artist in question. (Who you're accusing.)
Link to the image in question: This would be a page like this, to use one of Willow's pieces as an example.
And the Evidence of theft that you have. This can be the stolen image in it's original context, the original artist's site, the presence of someone else's signature on the page, etc.
Please remember that theOtaku staff, while they may seem godlike, are only human. Art is uploaded on the honor system--art is assumed to be legit until seen otherwise. Theifs are dealt with as swiftly as possible, but they have to be pointed out first.
  7.

Allow linking in comments. So I don't feel like an idiot every time I html-itize a link into a post then have to go back and just copy/paste the address into another comment so folks can actually get there.
Like Tony said, other ways to sort the member list. Alphabetically or by date joined woudl be good.
I haven't had problems with this recently, so I don't know if it was changed or if I've just been lucky. Anyway, the "recently updated" list shouldn't include people whose profiles are turned off.
Again, I haven't tried this in a while, so I don't know if it's possible now, but can we edit our profile picture caption seperately from our avatar? I know that last time I tried to change my caption I had to hunt around to find my avatar again so I could change it.
Maybe an option on the sidebar for a discreet link to your OtakuBoards profile. It would go under the contact section if people wanted to fill it out. I don't know how simple or complicated it would be to work ot, but it woud be a nice convenience. For me, anyway. Also, I have a question: Are there any restrictions on fanart (as far as nudity and/or graphic violence go)? I've seen some images uploaded that kinda surprised me, and I was wondering. An interesting idea would be to have a sort of myO main page--the a back room so much as...I don't know, a front porch or a parlor or something. Maybe a list of recently updated members...I don't know, people with birthdays that day, and maybe a periodic "featured member"--someone who's doing something cool or noteworthy with their site, like wrist cutter's countdown, or Someguy's Cream and Nougat sagas. ...Okay, I haven't really though that through at all. But it would be nifty.
8. *throws a million presents at him* For future reference, any thread you start should have some discussion value. Asking a dozen people to say "Happy Birthday" doesn't go very far. That's better suited for a chat or myO post.
  9. I'd just like to remind everyone to put some effort into their replies. Say why you like something, or give some background on the quote. Madly cutting and pasting with get this thread closed in a heartbeat. Thaaaaaaaaaank you.
  10. My screenshot would look the same as Tony's (although I admittedly wouldn't be in that aprticular thread.) Eh..Mac OS 9.something, IE 5, 1024x768.
  11. Ergh. I don't see the 'what are you doing after school' conversation going anywhere, but I'll send this over to the proper forum for you.
  12.
Racism. Aren't we being 'racist' for hating it? You hate racism, then that makes you just as bad as anyother person who discriminates.
Don't be foolish. The answer to you question is "No," as racism is discrimination against a person or person based on race. It has nothing to do with criticising a widespread, hateful idealogy. Frankly, I don't see racism disappearing any time. It has nothing to do with some cosmic plan of yin and yang, either. People are just stupid.
  13.
If I believe that, I might as well believe in the Tooth Fairy and Godzilla.
You don't believe in the Tooth Fairy and Godzilla?
  14.
how would you feel if you died because someone went out on a mass-murder spree?
Dead, I suppose.
But as a human, who understands that mankind has developed some very magical things (ie: music, literature and even love)[/b'], there's a large part of me that cherishes my connection to these things. Without them, I'd definitely cease to exist. So...in that sense, I can't be impartial and I can't provide an objective answer. I hope that made some sense. I don't know what I'm talking about today.
As much sense as anything I was trying to think through earlier. I'm going to be completely honest and say that I have no idea what the current or projected facts/statistics are about population, extinction, oxygen-producing algae, etc. But I do value life, and regardless of what a "virus" we may be, I have to agree with James on the above quote...and Godel on the following.
As for us being an evil plague to existance in general...I have an idea: if you're so rooted on that, you can go drink a can of pesticyde. But I'd rather you didn't, as I have nothing against your being here. After all, you could probably put all that environmentalism to good use some day.^_~
15. I can't remember the first time I read these books. My mom had the first four, and when I was little I would climb up the bookshelf (It was very tall, and I was not) and take them down to look at the covers. I loved how the "Don't Panic!" face got more and more--insert appropriate adjective here, because I can't think of it. The girl's name is Trillian (Tricia McMillan, or something to that effect.) I used to love how her first and last name combined into something cool and space-worthy. I tried doing that with my name, but the best I could come up with sounded like some kind of sea slug, and not at all clever or spacey. (Samarin? Saartin?) I love Ford. I really do. The whole demeanor of his character makes me laugh--very calm, and yet...completely insane. For example, his perfectly planned
breaking-in of HHGTTG headquarters in book five.
Methodical and bizarre. I love it, heh. When I first started flitting about the internet, I attached 42 to my screenames when the desired word was taken. Heck...my email is still cynic42. Plus, having read them makes me privy to several of the random geeky in-jokes floating around the internet. There's just so much fun humor in there. It's hilarious in and of itself, simply that you can quote almost any sentence in the book, and someone, somewhere, would know what you were talking about.

I never could get the hang of Thusdays.
Here I am, brain the size of a planet...
"The Zaphod Beeblebrox?" "No, just a Zaphod Beeblebrox. Didn't you hear I come in six packs?"
...with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard.'
He's spending the year dead for tax reasons.
...and my satisfaction to close behind you with the knowledge of a job well done.
I...just...want...some....tea.
Life is wasted on the living.
There are no lemon-scented napkins!!!
I could go on, but hey. What's the point? But, yeah. I really do enjoy those books. I ought to find them and read them again, it's been a couple years.
  16. I knew what PT meant, as far as the title went. Anything I watched between the ages of two and ten (late 80's to mid-90's) qualifies as "eighties." When I was little, I really and truly loved Care Bears. And then recently, there's been a lot of merchandise available, which has been kinda... On the one hand, nostalgia. On the other...remixed merchandise! Augh! Besides, no one has any Secret Bear stuff. I don't understand. Secret Bear was the coolest one. ......aaaaaanyway. My mom got me the Care Bear Movie for either Christmas or my birthday last year. It's interesting, because when I watch it, I have really mixed thoughts. "Dear lord, this is silly...Oh great, they're singing again...was that supposed to be funny?....Oh my gosh, this is my favorite part! Yes! Secret Bear ROCKS! I love this song!" Heh. And it's interesting, looking at it and thinking about how much I loved it when I was little, and realizing that I really do enjoy it--if only because of how much I liked it as a kid. Example: There's a song where Nicholas is running around the carnival, chasing the Care Bears and collecting ingredients for his spell. It scared me as a kid, and I loved it, and I still think of carnivals and amusement parks as the ultimate potential "scariness" setting. So when I watch the movie now and see the same scene, I like it, because the movie itself shaped an interest for me. Kinda intriguing to think about. Incidently, Roald Dahl is an...interesting...person all 'round.
  17.
YAY! Shinken! I hate PETA too.....or as I call them "People eating tasty animals" heh. I've talked to a veggie at my school quite often. She says she doesn't eat them because we torture the animals and kill them brutally. Now see here......there just is NO way to kill something in a nice way, and for seconds, we don't kill animals cruelly. The send an elctrical shock into the temple knocking them out. then they slit the throat. They don't even feel it. And for the torture. She said the placing them in pens before we kill them. The holding pens where the animals ar put for like 10 mins before they are killed -_-' . Veggies.......gotta hate'em.........or at least some of them.
"Veggies"? Veggies? Yes, because that doesn't sound derogatory at all. Yes, folks, it's true! We've stumbled upon a mentality that just plain ticks me off. And resisting the urge to completely dissect the above post, I'm going to be completely calm and explain this little peeve of mine. First off, yes--There is PETA. And heaven help me if I can fully understand what goes on in the minds of some of those people. However, while much criticism about that group is merited, people don't seem to realize that is is, in fact, an extremist group. And many people--PETA-affiliated or not--become vegetarians for completely sane reasons. Please believe me, no one appreciates being lumped into a category with a despised extremist group. Regardless of whether you condemn the group or not, I also believe that People Eating Tasty Animals is a sophomoric attempt at humor. I don't agree with you, but I'm too lazy to actually find a factual argument. I know! Let's resort of name-calling! It's obnoxious. Whether someone chooses a vegetarian diet due to health concerns, animal compassion, desired weight loss, or whatever else, there's no reason to blindly criticize them--or any other group, for that matter. Vegetarianism is an interesting example, as it may have direct effects--postive or negative--on your health. Unfortunately, the results are often negative because people are unaware of what they're getting themselves into. Anyone who can follow that diet healthily should at least be respected for that. It's not easy.
Misuse of words It's 'myriad colors', not 'a myriad of colors'.
I believe both are acceptable. Myriad is both an adjective and a noun.
  18. I never had any burning desire to learn to drive. That being said, my parents made me take the course the summer before my junior year of high school. The classroom part wasn't bad, really. I do pretty well with rote memorization and spent the two hours a day drawing or writing. However, we were also required to have x number of two hour ("behind the wheel") driving lessons. The amount of verbal abuse I recieved from my instructor was painful. I eventually broke down and told my mom, who immediately called to have my instructor changed. ...I love my mother.
  19. Altron, it's not that anyone misunderstood you, it's that you misunderstood Azure. There are hundreds upon hundreds of other boards you can post at if you really must "get the spam out of your system." There's no place for that here. :whoops: I think this topic has been adequately explored. /
  20. I would just like to point out that the fact this is a discussion of slang words and phrases is no excuse for incoherency. I've deleted some of the less sensible posts. If yours was one of those removed, you're free to re-evaluate what you said and try again, utilizing punctuation. Thaaaaaaaaank you.
  21.
Heh. Sounds like you're onto the suffixes as well, Sara. Suffixes are, in shortness, what make the world go 'round. Though I guess I have been trying to refrain from using them out of context on OB (because it really gets on some people's nervesnessoscity). We don't really stick to definitions--we just stick 'em on at the end. Words are one of my favourite passtimes. A common greeting: "Aiya! It's a (name)-nessoplasm!" I know: -oplasm isn't even a suffix, but still.^_^ It's just fun to stick at the end of a random word.
Dude! You use oscity, too! -oplasm sounds like great fun. ^_^ I'm sure I'll be incorporating that into my speech now, heh. Inate....Type-inating...I like it. Heh.
  22. I love words. I just do. I have a lot of fun playing with them and their definitions/usage, and I tend to pick up mannerisms from my friends, so I have quite an array of not-quite-official rhetoric. Some fun stuff: Whither the dillio?" Pretty much a greeting, yoinked (there's another one!) from my friend Dave, who offered this explanation: "What's the dillio?" equals "What's the deal" or "What's up." I just randomly old-Englishified it. old-Englishified is another example of something my friends and I tend to do--basically, wreaking havoc of parts of speech. Any noun can become a verb by adding the suffix ify, and any verb can become a noun by adding age. (Not that it's necessarily restricted to respective nouns and verbs.) Examples: I need to typify my essay or Time for sleepage. You can also add tastic to almost anything, and it will become a positive adjective (or interection, as needed.) And example would be a cowtastic, um....cow. Which I suppose would be a cow that exemplifies all the ideal traits of cows...or something to that effect. I tend to use the word "Spiffy" a lot, and end up with new forms of it. Spiffy, Spiff-tastic, teh spiff, spiffiness, muy spiffendo, les spiff, spiffage, spiffify (heh, that looks funny)...the list goes on.
  23. Altron was banned from OtakuBoards. Unless special exception is made by James, bans are permanent--If a staff member is aware that a banned member has registered under a different name, the new name will also banned. We have no way of determining complex reasons for the member's return, nor do we have the time or manpower. Altron was a part of staff here, and he should be aware of that. I don't know when or why this feud between him and Domon began--and frankly, it's been going on long enough that I don't care--but it's ridiculous. And really, if Domon has Altron's AIM handle, it stands to reason that Altron has Domon's, or could easily obtain it. If any further confrontations could take place off OtakuBoards, I'm sure we'd all appreciate it.

    Full House
The worst part about Full House is that it somehow made TV executives think that people actually liked[/I'] Bob Saget and thought he was funny. It seems like that guy will never go away, but at least he's not on America's Funniest Home Videos doing his lame voice-overs that all sound exactly the same.
I thought he was funny. Those lame voice-overs were a staple of my childhood!
  25. Little kids do homework or play outside after school? When did this happen? ...or is my kid brother the only lazy kiddie who's growing up glued to the TV? I don't watch TV, which is either a cause or an effect of our getting about seven channels. Never quite figured that one out. I guess I don't see what the earth-shattering deal is. Either watch the new block--if you're bored enough, you will--or do something else. Heck, do homework or go outside and play. :toothy: If Toonami's been in the same spot for six years...well, I'm surprised. Cartoon Network is hardly my area of expertise, but come on. It's kids' TV, and hardly meant to be a constant.
