Originally posted by Heaven's Cloud I always thought that you should avoid having a sig longer than the length of your average post...
*is amused* I think keeping signatures short inspires creativity. After all, there's only so many things you can do with a twenty-line buddy list. *smirks* Incidently, my signature right now seems unpleasantly cluttered. Must rectify this....
2. Trick or Treating was this afternoon in my neighborhood. I think it was one till three, or something. I have to admit, it loses some romance when you're walking about during a Sunday afternoon in November. / Halloween was a Friday night, too, and that would have been perfect... (granted, my drama group was performing during ideal trick-or-treating hours, but still.) I didn't go this year. If I had gotten some friends together, I think it would have been fun.....on the other hand, I'm far too tired/sick to go out and walk around in the rain for a couple hours. I did wear a costume on our last day of school this week. That was fun, although I think I was the only person who did so, heh. And advice to anyone planning to go trick-or-treating next year: Get a friend or two and have someone's parents drive you to a new subdivision area. The people who live in those places generally have kids, so almost every house gives out candy. They're fairly condensed areas, too--there are fewer trick-or-treaters coming by, so they usually have really good candy. *laughs softly* We just moved to an area right by a new subdivision, heh. My kid brother went out for less than an hour, and got more/better candy than I ever got on my best years of ranging the city streets where we used to live.
3.
Originally posted by Kyo no Ryu I live in the everpopulated city of Virginia.
*blinks* How's that, again? I was born in the UP (Upper Michigan, heh.) I have few scattered memories of the place, but that doesn't keep me from being inordinately fond of the Upper Peninsula. Other than that, I've lived in Southeast Wisconsin for the last fifteen years or so. I've called a couple different addresses "Home," and we moved again last fall. (I can no longer walk to my lovely Lake Michigan...) My dad's side of the family is Minnesotan, heh, and we have a solid bunch of relatives there.
Originally posted by stardust L;ike the number 365 is like dreihundreisechsundzwanzigfunf, and I'm NOT kidding-
You're also not correct. / Three hundred sixty five is "drei-hundert-funf-und-sechzig," or "three hundred, five and sixty." (I seperated the words so it's easier to read, although the hyphens wouldn't normally be there.) You've got "three hundred six and twenty five," which doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe pages 325 and 326? I don't know...
5.
And does it appear I care? Obviously not, since by posting that I was contradicting what is allowed. People shall do it nontheless, whatever we as Mods say.
Despite what we say, people still post pointless things. Does that mean we go about encouraging people to spam? No, we deal with the problem, warn the member, and edit/delete the posts. / In any case.... question answered, topic closed.

7.
Originally posted by Molleta You completely deprive yourself of carbs the first two weeks
Well, for crying out loud, what do you eat? I guess one of the girls at our lunch table tried it, and she couldn't do it, heh. She broke it the first day, then claimed she was going to do it "every other day," and finally gave up when we had spaghetti for lunch on a "diet day." I can't say it sounds like a good idea to me. I mean....yeesh, deprive yourself of something your body uses to work properly? I mean, obviously, everything in moderation, but....that seems a little extreme, and not exactly healthy. Heh, I'm all about the food groups pyramid, and I've been told you need six to eleven servings from the bread, cereal, rice, and pasta group a day....since I was four years old. Heh. I know I could never do it, heh. I love pasta far too much.
8. Well, I suppose you would start by copying pictures of the characters you want to draw--don't trace, that defeats the purpose! Concentrate on getting proportions right, and everything in the right places (eyes, accesories, etc.) I'd choose a relatively easy picture to start out--and one that you wouldn't mind drawing more than once. Draw it as best you can, then take your version and the original (print a copy off the net, or use a manga; it's hard to get things right when you're drawing off a computer screen) to a friend, sibling, parent, and ask them what's wrong with it. (Make them be specific...."His ear is in the wrong place," "Her hair is too poofy," etc.) Draw/sketch the same picture again (you don't need to spend a lot of time on these, it's just lineart that you're planning to redraw, anyway.) Pay attention to the parts of the character that turned out wrong the first time, and try again. You don't need to keep drawing the same picture till kingdom come, by the way. After the second or third time you've drawn something, you have a pretty solid idea of what they look like--you'll remember odd accessories in the outfit, the way the eyes look, etc. After you know what they really look like, you can try drawing them in another style, in different poses*, etc. Don't know if that was quite what you were asking, but there it is, just the same. *If you have trouble figuring out how a certain pose should look, find a picture of a different character in the same pose. It'll give you a general idea, and you can work from there.
9. In general, I like it. I think both the outfits could use some tweaking, but I love how you did the faces. When I opened the thread, I just had to laugh. I could tell who it was, but it's so exactly your style, heh. I think it's the way you draw eyes, or something. Anyway, heh.

I'm sure welcoming you to the boards entirely slipped TN's mind. Hi. Welcome to OB. Take a look at the rules, and you should be set.
11. "I'm not...really...much of a swimmer," Sara said, slightly embarrassed. "You're in your swimsuit," Ellie said pointedly. "Yes, well...that. Hm." Sara paused for a second. "The groceries are here. And put away. No thanks to, well....anyone else. Well, James. And Josh. But they're not here. So...yeah." "Aw, c'mon, Sara," Tori laughed. "Come have some fun." "I am having fun!" She said shrilly. "No you're not," Jenna said, siding with Tori. "Come on." "I don't want to get wet." "Then why are you in your bathing suit?" "You already asked me that." "And you didn't answer!" Ken grinned mischieveously, pulling himself up out of the pool. Sara's eyes widened as she watched him, not noticing the newest arrivals to the pool sneaking up behind her. "No--Ken, if you push me in, I swear--Aaiiah!" Splash.
12.
Originally posted by Carr My first "happy poem"!
...Dave would be proud. Or accuse you of having too much ice cream, but, you know... I'm hoping I'm not supposed to be in on a lot of those jokes, because I missed quite a few, heh.
13. *absently* Mitch, be polite. It's hard when you realize you're no longer friends with someone whom you used to be, and it hurts when you see that they get along just fine with other people...but not you. I think the best thing you can do is, like you said, let go. If you're ready to do that, you should. I think the longer you hold on to a failed relationship, hoping it will somehow get better, the more you're going to hurt in the long run. If you think you can let go...well, you should. I guess it's the "healthiest" thing you can do. Hope things look brighter for you.

School of Rock

I went to see this movie with my sister one afternoon. She really liked it. I thought it was decent, but nothing I'd see again. There were some funny parts, but it really didn't keep my interest.
15. I think it's a fun song. It was on the radio while I was cleaning this afternoon and I caught myself singing along, heh.
16. Neehee. Very funny, Megumi. No problems here, heh. Great idea, and well done.
17. ...how am I ever going to recognize your posts without Hagar? I don't really care for the text in the banner. it doesn't seem to fit...it looks darker than the rest of the picture, or flatter, or something. Mm. And I think the avatar could stand a thinner border... But other than that, I like. Nice choice of picture, everything's fine, heh.
18. You probably shouldn't save as .bmp--use a gif file. It's actually not bad, and could be pretty good with a little tweaking. First, the picture you used is very pixelly. If you mean it to be that way (and it has potential) that's fine...but you may want to experiment a little so that it's easier to recognize what the image is. It took me a moment to realize it was a face. The text is also difficult to read. The orange over the picture isn't great, especially since it's hard to tell what the image is in the first place. Finally, you should add a border of some sort. It adds a good "finished" touch to almost any piece. You always want to keep in mind what the foci of you banner are. If you want people to read the text, invite them to read it. If you want them to see the picture, make it aesthetically pleasing. Don't make them strain their eyes. Most won't bother. I would suggest keeping the image you have and making it longer--move the picture over to one side, and put the type in the white space to the other side. Here. Something like this. I moved the image to the side, and placed the text where it was easier to read. I also added a halftone effect to make the image slightly more recongizable. (it also helped it blend easily with the new white space.) And there's a simple orange border.
19. Despite the fact that I feel I have nothing to add to what's already been said about the pieces....Here goes. It makes me laugh that both of you are describing something you've never seen...to someone else who's never seen it. You both did very well for that, heh. I feel Miss Asphy's was the better piece of writing, and several of her descriptions were things I really liked: "It's the white of being lost," and the note that everything is muffled. It perhaps wasn't the most definitive description, but it was very pleasing to read. It seems like Deedlit tried to tackle too much at once, and I sort of got lost in what she wrote. Some things she she mentioned but didn't explain could be confusing if I didn't know exactly what she was talking about. (Although I did love the "spilled white out" bit.) So I suppose that's all I have to say. My vote goes to Miss Asphy.
Originally posted by terra "Testify to Love" by Avalon
I'll be your witness in the silences when words are not enough... You have no idea how obsessed I was with that song a couple years ago. I loved it so much--all the different parts at the end, weaving in and out--sheer awesomeness, heh. Five Iron Frenzy is breaking up? I didn't know that, huh. I've only heard a couple of their songs, but it was really fun stuff, heh. I need to find a CD by them. (Dude--were they the ones with the comb song? Because that song rocks.) My current personal obsession is the Newsboys. Breakfast in Hell is a great song. Their best-known song is probably Shine, if anyone's interested. I also have a Steven Curtis Chapman CD, which has Live Out Loud on it--probably the reason I bought it, but I like the rest of the songs on there, too. I guess I'm pretty easy to please. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with likeing VeggieTales music. Heh.
21. Yes, curse me and my differing opinion! Poisontongue, back off. If you can't carry on a debate without constantly insulting the other party, your attitude is really not welcome here. Deathbug, yellowflame and natalie are references to PT's signature. I'm going to leave this open for now, on the off chance that something constructive comes from it.
22. Welcome to OtakuBoards. Threads about movies belong in the "music, movies, etc.," part of the boards. I believe there's already a thread about this movie there--check it out.
23. Eternal Otaku, please use paragraphs when typing. / This isn't coincidence so much as cause-and-effect, but it's rather amusing. I was typing last night, and got stuck on a word (anthology). I wasn't sure if I had the right meaning of it, so I opened a window to dictionary.com. I was in the process of typing it up again when my sister came into the room to talk with me. "So," she said, "Let's talk about your costume." I looked up. "Anthology?" I said. I was so focused on making sure I had the right word for the definition that it just sort of slipped out. I meant to say something along the lines of, "Oh, okay." She looked at me as though I were quite insane. It was pretty funny. It's not the first time that's happened, but I think it's the first time anyone else has really witness, heh.
